Our long-awaited reveal was finally unveiled on Thanksgiving day…our baby (previously known as Moto) is a boy! Tonka Trucks, blue & brown nursery, and mini tools here we come!
And just so that you can share with us how we found out – here is the short little video of my sweet nephew Cole opening our mystery red envelope to share with us the gender.
[vimeo vimeo.com/7926854]
My favorite part? Cole shouting “PRAISE THE LORD” at the end. Tru dat little man…tru dat.
Any boy mommies out there with words of advice? I’d love to hear it. Or maybe just the little boy horror stories. Share those ones too 🙂 heck…if you have met a little boy…tell me all about it. I am rolling in boy heaven right now 🙂

I am the mother of three GROWN up boys. But they used to be small, and active, and delightful (they still are that).
Boys are great fun! Lizards, worms, climbing trees, hammering things, mudding on bicycles. I loved raising boys. And they are the most wonderful young men.
Enjoy every moment, Katie! It goes by fast.

Yay for team blue!!! Congrats Katie. 🙂

Hi Katie,
My little boy is 5.5 and he is the sweetest guy! I don’t have a girl so I can’t compare, but my son is the most affectionate, thoughtful person. He always tells me that I am beautiful and that I smell good and that I am the best mom, etc… Boys and moms have a special bond as I am sure you will!
Good luck!
Ellen says
Ahhh congratulations! You had us waiting on pins and needles to find out.
Michelle says
OMG that is such a fun way to find out the gender of your baby! May I be the first commenter to congratulate you! As the mother of two sons (age 21 and 18) let me tell you that as a mother there is no better gift than to watch a little tiny boy who will steal your heart from his first breath become a man right in front of your eyes. Makes me want to weep everyday when I witness what remarkable men I’ve raised. I’ve learned so much about my husband and how to relate to him better by raising boys. They are very different than girls and don’t let anyone tell ya different! I have no daughters, but since I’m a girl I already know what that’s like, so it has been a real blessing to experience raising these boys is hands down the best thing I’ve ever done!
I won’t scare you with any horror stories (and trust me, there are many to share)because you need to be just as shocked as I was at some of the things they’ll do. Just love him, listen to him, enjoy who he is, and most importantly don’t turn your back for a second because when you turn around he will be all grown up.
Amy G says
Congrats, Katie!!

Oh! Congratulations! Boys are SO much fun. I have a two y/o boy named Caden and a three month old boy named Cameron.
I have toy cars and dirty socks scattered across my living room floor every night even though I clean it all up every morning and muddy shoe prints find their way to my couch cushions after rainy days, but my boys are so sweet you can’t be mad.
You are in for quite a ride but there couldn’t be anything better!
Cheryl says
CONGRATULATIONS!!
Alison says
My little boy is named Jackson and he is a year old and he is WONDERFUL!!!! 🙂 You’re going to be an awesome boy mommy! You should accept that he will pee on you, possibly in the face. Also, girl clothes are cuter and more plentiful, but boy clothes are super fun too. And, they seem to have more color variation than the girls! Blue, green, red, brown, gray, orange, yellow, black, (as opposed to pink pink pink pink purple pink)
Having a boy is the best! Congrats! 🙂

Congratulations! I don’t have many good stories, but my dad is one of five boys, and his mom says that she wouldn’t have had it any other way!
Kathleen says
Congratulations! I just gave birth to our second baby boy about 5 1/2 weeks ago and I have nothing but good things to report. My 2 1/2 year old is a real sweetheart and loves his little brother. Lots of kisses and trying to make him feel better when he is crying. Although many people seem to think that little boys are by definition crazy and wild (at least that’s my impression by the comments I’ve gotten when people find out I have two boys), I think you can find the whole spectrum in BOTH genders. My toddler is very gentle, loves to read books, and is actually pretty passive. We’ll see what #2 is like! In general, I think it’s good to give kids lots of time outside to run free, get dirty, and gain confidence in themselves. Congrats again! I’m sure your little boy is going to be so much fun!
Janis in Scotland says
Oh boy (pardon the pun) congratulations.
Now you can get down to planning.
Allison says
Congrats Katie & Jeremy!!! I’m so happy for you two!
JenM says
Wheeeee!!! I’m so excited for you! As the mom of two boys I can tell you that little boys are just divine.
Laura says
Yeah for boys! I am so happy for you guys. I bet Jeremy is over the moon (not like he wasn’t before, but you know what I mean!) I had a little boy first too. Having a boy opens up a whole world of trucks and trains and a love of mud. Congrats again!
Bonus: you learn how to make explosion noises!
Melissa says
Congratulations, Katie! I can’t wait to see the photos as you start putting the nursery together!
Lisa R. says
BOY, n: a noise with dirt on it.
😉
Boys are soooo wonderful, Katie.
Our first was a boy. When we found out, I was like, “what am I gonna do w/ a BOY?!” You see, I’m one of three girls, no brothers, so I didn’t know a thing about little boys.
But he’s been the calmest of our 3 (he’s the oldest, and has 2 little sisters.). We’re also due w/ baby #4 in July, and I HOPE HOPE HOPE it’s another boy!
Congrats on your little man!
Tritia says
Congrats!! I could probably give you 1,445 stories about boys. Because I have FOUR !! They’re all wonderful, beautiful, well behaved little gentlemen. (ages 5-13) And do they ever love their mama!!!! I smacked my elbow on my dresser yesterday, and had them all hovering around me, making sure I was ok. They still jockey for position on the couch at night. Trying to get the primo spot. Next to mom! 🙂 I get flowers picked daily. I’ve had allowance saved up, and flowers purchased! Then there’s the baseball, football, basketball ! Ohhh..we’re a busy house with all these guys. And it’s a BLAST! I’m welling up in tears, thinking about how wonderful my sons are. You’ll love every moment of being a boy mama (well, there’s the peeing all over the shower curtain thing that I could do without, lol)
Congrats again!!
Tritia
Katie says
How exciting! Congrats!
Annali says
Congratulations!! My little boy will be 2 in January and he is the most amazing blessing I could have asked for. I can’t imagine my life any different. I am expecting baby #2 and will find out if it’s a boy or girl on Friday!
Erin @ Fierce Beagle says
I thought I wanted a girl, but when our son was born (we didn’t find out the gender beforehand), I totally fell in love. He’s a heart-melting blend of rough-and-tumble and sweet-cuddliness. Congratulations! You’re in for some fun and a lot of love.
Kayt says
Yay!
I have a son who’ll be a year old on the 19th. *hyperventilates* He is Into Things and Very Busy. I love him to pieces, but he can be a pain. He climbed the stairs before he crawled, he’s very stubborn, and too smart for his good. I think he gets those last two things from me. But point being, boys seem to be a bit busier than girls of the same age. And my guy seems to not care about the word ‘no’. He certainly understands it, but doesn’t care until he gets flicked on the wrist. Then he sits back and hoooowls like his heart’s broken.
But. He’s snuggly and funny as heck. He initiates games of peek-a-boo with strangers in the cart when we’re at Target. He has a laugh that actually made me cry the first time I heard it. He loves being chased up the stairs, and will even wait for you to get close before screeching with joy and making a getaway. He dances when we sing, he quirks his eyebrow at you when you make silly faces. Yeah, he’s a bit of a pain, but he’s mine, and I love him more than you could even imagine. I swear to you, you will never ever understand how much you’ll love your son until he’s born. It actually takes your breath away. It actually hurts sometimes. And it’s wonderful. *steps off soapbox*
Anyways, yay! Congrats! I’ll stop babbling now.
L.Duncan says
Girl just watch out for his little quirter!
I’m so happy for you guys now let the nursery decorating begin!!!
Kate says
A BOY!! Congratulations! I’ve been reading your blog for the last month or two and love everything you write…I think this is my first time commenting though. I’m a few years off from wanting to add any kiddos, but 10 years ago in my prime babysitting years, I always loved babysitting boys better than girls. I don’t know what it was, maybe the girls I babysat just weren’t cool. But the boys just seemed more fun and laid back…whether they were 6 months old or 8 years old. My absolute favorite was the twin boys I babysat for and their little brother, I loved them so much, I can’t imagine what it’ll be like to have my own kids! Gosh, you’re going to love having a little boy! Having said all this, I’ll probably end up with all girls 🙂 Congrats again and love the blog!
Maggie Clifford says
yay!! congratulations 🙂 I have been cyber-stalking your blog waiting to find out and I couldn’t be happier for you guys! have fun with the nursery!
Renee says
What a sweet video!! Having a three week old baby boy myself, I have no advice! I was terrified b/c I grew up with all girls but he has been great! So chill and I am loving it! Congrats to you both!!
[email protected] says
So awesome. Being a mom to a boy is the best thing I have ever experienced. I have to say that I was a little disappointed when I found out I was having a boy as girls are so much fun! But there is nothing like a bond between a mom and her son. He will love you, protect you and cherish you forever.
Amanda says
Congratulations!! I have a 2 year old boy and I am pregnant (and due on April 1!) with another boy! Be prepared for a LOT of noise!!!

I have to stop coming here – you are making me cry way to often!! I am so happy for you! We were so excited last year when we found out we were having a baby boy – we both really wanted a boy and he is everything we could have ever wanted. He’s so sweet and a true blessing!! CONGRATS!!!! Okay, I’m crying again….
Christina says
Oh you guys! I have a 2 year old boy and he RULES! I’m so serious- he is so rad I nearly didn’t get knocked up a 2nd time because he will be my favorite and that’s not cool. I love him, he is the greatest source of joy in my life- my sunshine. And, I am a pretty girly girl and really, he’s all I’ve ever wanted. (Just don’t tell the little 8 week embryo, okay?)
UGH- CONGRATULATIONS!
Julia says
Another first-time commenter. I’m also a mom to a delightful little boy, age 5+ (as well as two little sisters who followed along later). I second everyone who said that your love for your son will take your breath away. No matter how many people TOLD me about the feeling, nothing I imagined prepared me for it. I still remember looking at his little sleeping face the night he was born — it DOES almost hurt, it’s so fierce and overwhelming.
My best advice is to enjoy every minute of the great adventure of learning who he is and watching him grow. Whatever expectations I had of “what boys are like” versus “what girls are like” have been dispelled — nay, SHATTERED — by my little troop of sweet, sticky kiddos. They defy the stereotypes. My son is sweet, calm, cautious, affectionate, tidy, introspective, cuddly, and serious. My 3.5-year-old daughter is silly, mischievous, loud, messy, impulsive, ornery, energetic, and rough-and-tumble. (The littlest one is just 10 months, so she’s still a work in progress). I love them all desperately and indescribably for the little people they are. I can’t wait for you to get to know your SON — it beats everything.
Amy says
Congratulations! I have an 18-month-old little boy. He is definitely a mama’s boy. But get ready – in comparison to my nieces, he is much more active. He doesn’t stop moving or talking for one minute! Lucky little boy with you as his mama!
Lindsey says
Boys are the best! You can read all about my little man adventures on my blog! You will love being a boy momma!

CONGRATS! Boys are awesome! I have two (ages 11 and almost 9). Little boys are rough and tumble but sweet and mommy-lovin little guys. I know you’ll have a ball with your little man!
Sandra says
Congratulations! I’m hoping for a boy and get to find out in two weeks!
Laura says
I was hoping it was a boy! I mean, I think little boys are the best. I am a little bias though as I have a three year old boy. I wouldn’t even know what to do with a girl! I think having a boy first is the coolest thing. My only advise for you is “boys will be boys” and that’s all I have learned through out this whole thing. oh and boys always love their mommys too. 😉
Kirsten says
Congratulations! As a mom of 3 boys, I can say that they’re wonderful! They really love their moms (til they’re teenagers and then they roll their eyes at you constantly!). One funny thing friends of mine witnessed when my youngest two were about 3 and 5 years old was an argument my boys were having over “who loves mama more?” Too cute!
Shauna Newlun says
Congratulations! I became the proud mommy to a little boy just this summer and I can’t imagine anything more wonderful! I just want to pass along a teeny bit of advice: While I love the mood board you have put together for your baby boy nursery, I would suggest you get a chair that either rocks or glides. You will spend many an hour swaying, jiggling, bouncing, or otherwise rocking your little boy to sleep and it will be invaluable if you can do that sitting rather than standing……..especially in the wee hours of the morning. We have a rocker in our nursery (not the best option since we also have wall-to-wall carpet. A glider would have been better.) and I often nod off myself while feeding and rocking at 2:30 AM. That wouldn’t be an option if I was standing. My husband also insisted we purchase a glider for our family room, and it was the single best item we purchased for our home while preparing for baby. I can’t tell you how many hours I’ve sat in that glider gently rocking my sleeping baby boy as I catch up on past episodes of Oprah, Dateline, Survivor, Divine Design, House Hunters, etc. Honestly, I have no idea how we would have gotten him to sleep in the first few months without these two chairs.
Anyway, congrats again! I really enjoy your blog and I look forward to reading it when your little boy arrives. I’m sure there will be many a story that I can relate to. :o)
Marcy says
Oh that made me cry! I was so happy to find out that our first child was a boy and we now have another boy. They are the best!! I could tell you all the horror stories, but their love and delight in everything more than makes up for the bad days! You are so blessed!
Skooks says
My little boy is only 4 months old, but I cannot imagine my life without him. I’m so happy for you!
Kayt says
Oh yeah, one of the pains of being a mom to a boy is that they have tons and tons of the cutest clothes for girls, and you’ll have like, six shirt choices, and jeans, sweat pants, or khakis. Freaking awful. I buy my own plain onesies, grab some fabric dye and iron-on letters, and make my kid his own shirts. One shirt I made: http://www5.snapfish.com/slideshow/AlbumID=641027028/PictureID=19722787028/a=1323781028_1323781028/otsc=SHR/otsi=SPIClink/COBRAND_NAME=snapfish/
And just a shot of James from this week, just basically because I love making people look at my kid: http://www5.snapfish.com/slideshow/AlbumID=637543028/PictureID=19666100028/a=1323781028_1323781028/otsc=SHR/otsi=SPIClink/COBRAND_NAME=snapfish/

Congratulations! Boys are awesome! I was nervous when I found out we were having a boy, because we only had girls in my family. What a blessing he has been! The bond between mother and son is truly special.

Thoughout growing up, and even through college, I had no desire for motherhood, but since my mom – and best friend – is an only child, I eventually began envisioning having one little girl to include in our sisterhood. ONE addition to our close-knit family…. that was an idea I could embrace. Imagine my surprise/shock/horror when I went for THE ultrasound to find out that we were expecting a BOY…. and that he had a BROTHER in there too!!!!! I had envisioned my life with one girl, but ended up with two boys. That was 4 years ago, and everyday I am reminded of how Fate knew better. My challenges in raising twins far outweighs the challenges in raising boys. I’ll make certain they are thoughtful & sensitive, but in all other ways they are natually a delight! (The relief I got when I realized I wouldn’t have to share my bathroom, or deal with ponytails, braids or scruncies …. Ahhhhhhh!) I’ve actually become a fan of little boys! Me! 😉
Your boyfriend Jeremy is going to be the BEST role model!!!! My best to you all.
Rachel says
yaaaaaaayyyyyyyy! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! That’s just me sharing in your excitement! You’re seriously gorgeous! So I’ll give another yay for that! I’ll be praying for you, the hubby and your wee man! But seriously? I excpected lotsa tears from you & Jeremy – did you keep that one to yourselves? 😉

Congratulations! Little boys are WONDERFUL! My only advise is make sure you keep that thing covered when you change those diapers are you are going to get peed on.

Congratulations! Boys are so sweet! We have a family full of girls (4 nieces) so when the nephew came along, everyone was excited. He’s now two and LOVES to roll around in dirt, gets excited about seeing trains, airplanes, cars, balls and cows and if he sees a pair of his Mom’s high heels laying about, he’s got to put them on. Haha! It’s so funny to see the little man in a pair of heels, holding a ball and pointing at the TV excitedly because he sees a train. 🙂

Yay for the boys! Congrats! I have a 13 year old brother and he has had to grow up with 3 older sisters. So he was all about boy things. When he was a toddler we lived in a new development where there was a lot of construction and he would force my mom to stop in front of the construction sites so he could watch the dirt diggers and back hoes. My mom felt awkward watching all the men work and hoped that they didn’t think she was there for them 🙂
jen says
Congrats, Katie! So exciting!

Congrats on your baby boy! He’s going to be a real handsome little guy!
I’m also preggified (due in June), and my first incliniation is also that it’s a boy! Interesting to see how often a mother’s intuition is right or wrong. I hope I’m right like you were – reading all these precious stories about boys is really cranking up the pregnancy hormones!
Chelsea says
EXCELLENT! Congratulations! You just got yourself more free labor 🙂 Boys love that stuff, right?
Kristin says
Ah, yay for little boys. He’ll be a momma’s boy, no doubt. And, I don’t mean the negative connotation of it. 🙂 I have two nephews… one’s a baby, but the 4 year old is awesome. Rough and tumble little guy but has such a sweet, sweet heart.
Jenny says
Yay Katie, a little boy! That is so exciting! I’ve been following your blog for a few weeks too and it’s been fun to go down memory lane with our baby. We live in HI (did you ever think you’d have a reader across the Pacific?!). We used to be stationed in GA, darn our boys could’ve played together 😉 I too am the proud momma of one very adorable curly-headed lil’ man, and I have to say that boys rock! 😉 They are rough & tough and all that good stuff, and they love their mommas like no other. When Noah tells me “I wuv u momma!” or “my momma’s pretty” it makes me puddle 🙂 Congrats again girl!
Colette says
I’m a lurker,too- but as the mother to a 2 1/2 year old boy and 7 month old boy (William, no less)- I have to tell you congrats. Boys are wonderful!!! So much fun! Enjoy this time in your life with the pregnancy- it’s such an exciting adventure.

Oh, congratulations!!! I have 4 kids: 3 girls, 1 boy. There is such a special bond with that little guy (he’s not so little, at 11 years old!!). You will love EVERY minute of having a boy.
Couple words of warning: watch out for diaper changes and prepare yourself NOW for stepping on tiny Legos at 3 am. Some how, some way, no matter what, there is always one stray that finds its way to the path of my bathroom. Fun!

Hi Wendy –
Not everybody got to be there for the grand reveal at Thanksgiving. In fact, we only had my family there (17 of us)…so we had about four phones going on conference calls to make sure that everybody else got to hear the good news. We had Jeremy’s dad, stepmom, aunt, uncle, cousins, brother, mother, grandmother, and two of my uncles all on the phone at once…pretty cool feat, huh? It was definitely a challenge to arrange but in the end, it was oh-so-worth it! And then of course afterward we had to send about thirty texts out to various peeps 🙂 You know, cause we spread the joy like that.

How neat!! You and I don’t know each other, but I know your father-in-law, and I know that Mike is extremely excited about this baby boy. He shared the video with us by leaving a link at our email. How exciting!! I know how he feels and am sharing in his joy because I have a brand new grandbaby (first one, and he is 3 1/2 months old), and it’s (he’s?) a BOY!! We’re so excited!! Well, the only advice I have is to love him much (I have two boys of my own), and introduce him to Christ as early as possible. Many blessings to you, your husband, and your family with this baby.
Shelley @ Green Eggs & Hamlet says
Congratulations to you and the bf! What a great Thanksgiving surprise. I can’t wait to see the hunting lodge nursery.
Wendy says
Wow, a feat indeed! I was curious on how you worked out all the logistics. But it was definitely the best what’s-the-baby-gonna-be reveal I’ve ever seen! 🙂 I’m glad you got to share it with your family, whether it be in person or over the phone! And just think how special it will be when your son gets to watch that video someday!
Congrats again!! 🙂

98 comments already, wow!! I hope you read all of them!
The best boy story I have is that my manager brought his four year old son into the office and he was making quite a bit of mischief. When she had the “quiet parent talk” with him he exclaimed “BUD I’M JUSS A LIDDLE BOY!” It was precious 🙂
Dana says
My first comment here and I think it’s appropriate…I’m the only female in our house. With me are hubby and our two lil’ boys. I LOVE it! I love that no one expects them to look put together all the time because they’re BOYS! We get dirrrty: mud, mulch, Play-Doh, snot and all. I like getting my girl time alone – all by myself. Enjoy that boy!
Debbie says
Yea for you, Katie! I am 30 weeks with a boy right now! Just like you, boy or girl would have been fine! My other boy is 16(!) and he is a mother’s dream. I’m sure yours will be too. Congratulations!

I have 2 boys….Almost 4 and 18 months old and they make my world go round. They would happily bang up the walls with their tonka trucks, play fight with wooden spoons or snuggle their Mama all day long. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. Congratulations! You’re going to love being Mama to a little boy!!!

Way to go Miss Bower!!! Oh and Jeremy.
A special little man to help your BF mess
around in the dirt, bring in the worms and
play with those dirty trucks inside, but it
will be the same little guy who will give you
sweet hugs and kisses and I love yous.
Congratulations to the expanding Bower family!

Congrats all over again! I think we’re having a boy, too. Just a feeling. We didn’t find out at sonogram time, but we the tech did stop on what looked like boy parts and didn’t say anything. We were at that point looking upwards at the kidneys (or little black spots in the white).
Consider getting Pee Pee Tee Pee’s if you haven’t thought of them already. Although a friend did just tell about how you can still get caught off-guard when pulling that diaper down. Her son got it in his own face. Poor little guy.
And it’s not pleasant watching the circumcision if you plan to have that done. I was present at my nephew’s. Your husband might have empathy pains. I’m sure I would if I were the dad; it’s hard enough watching as a female.
Baby GAP has THE most adorable clothing lines for boys right now. Little buffalo plaid pants with cream henley bodysuits and little brown bears printed on them. Adorable. Old Navy also has some cute stuff on the cheap.

YAY!
Little boys are so special! I mean, little girls are special too, but my first born was a boy and the mother/son relationship is magical! My two youngest are girls, and I’m so glad I had the boy first!

We just found out TODAY that WE’RE HAVING A BOY!!!!!!!! Baby wasn’t cooperating (the cord was between the legs), so the doctor’s only 90% sure, but that was enough for us!!! We have a beautiful daughter and now she’s getting a BROTHER!!!!!! Thanks for sharing Katie – CONGRATULATIONS!! There’ll be two new baby boys in April! (And yes, the caps are intentional shouting!!)
Amber says
Congrats! You don’t need any advice. You are going to be an awesome mom to a little boy! There is nothing like a little momma’s boy snuggling up on your shoulder. I can’t imagine life without my 2 little momma’s boys.

oh boy!! how exciting 🙂 thanks for satisfying my curiosity!

A boy, I knew it!! : ) Be honest what did you want?
I know most of us say “I don’t care what we have as long as its healthy” but deep inside we know we wanted a he or she.
So what did you and your BF want?
allbowerpower says
Good question Elizabeth…and to honestly answer your question – neither of us really thought about what we ‘wanted’. We both EXPECTED a boy. If Cole had announced “GIRL” then we both would have been completely shocked. I think that part of it just was due to my symptoms, old wives tales, and complete strangers telling us that it was definitely a boy. It had us riding the boy train for sure. I am definitely excited because my sister had a bunch of hand-me-downs which were too cute for words. If it had been a girl – well, all her onesies would probably reference how good she is with the ladies 🙂

p.s. I secretly wanted a boy primarily so that I could use owls in the nursery 🙂

A boy! You are going to have so much fun! Even more than you do now if you can imagine that. Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats, Katie! I have to say that my favorite part of the video was seeing how nervously happy your boyfriend looked. So cute.
Also, I saw these cute owl hooks at Anthro yesterday. Maybe you need them for the nursery?!

Congratulations!!!! I have a little boy, Graham, he just turned one and we are also just about a month pregnant. My husband and I would LOVE to have another boy.I have had so much fun with Graham. Boys love their mama. Really. He thinks dad and other men are fun but, mama means lovin. Its great. Any advice to tell you about having a boy…mmm. Have fun. Let your little one be able to get dirty, stand up on the tykes swing …. my jaw dropped by the way…. let your husband hang up side down. Have fun. It think too that they get the easier. And Im not just saying by thirteen, even one. Oh and I read too that your were thinking of going natural. I went natural. Its was amazing. I held on to a scripture that helped me. Psalms 16 vs 9. Here it is.
No wonder my heart is filled with joy, and my mouth shouts his praise! MY BODY RESTS IN SAFTY!
you go girl. I believe you can do it. Have fun and congratulations.

the only thing I will say is please do not let any one tell you bad labor stories — there is no need for that whatsoever. I have had three kids all were good — if someone wants to tell you a story about that — go right ahead but when some starts with ” labor, UGH! Let me tell you…” stop them right there — you need to keep this positive energy you have now all the way through and stories like that can be kept to themselves — and little boys ( I have one of both) — are much bigger cuddlers of their mommies than little girls — and they tell you look beautiful all the time (how can you not love that…)

I have one of each, both grown up (sort of) 19-girl, 23-boy. Boys are DEFINITELY easier to raise and live with. They LOVE their mothers, they get along with tons of friends at one time, and there is so much less drama. Just my experience…GREAT luck to both of you, you are an adorable couple!

A boy! Congratulations!
We have three boys, ages 16 to 21. They can be so entertaining! They loved dressing up as cowboys and ninjas, and I don’t mean just during Halloween. They used to fight who was going to sit next to me when I would read to them. When I had my second son, my oldest told all of the visitors at the hospital to be careful because it was his little brother. I have to agree with another person, the bond between a mother and son is special.

Yay for little boys! I have a 9 month old wee one. After the late night feedings when you don’t know which way is up, just chant to yourself, “point it down, point it down.” That’s all you need to know to keep you and your little man sleeping easier (and dryer). Everything else will come wonderfully & naturally. It seriously is the best, I had no idea you could be so completly consumed with love for something!

I cried more watching this video than I did when we found out that we were having a boy! Mainly because boys scared me. I don’t know how to do boys. Heehee. Well, I guess I know how to “DO” boys since I have a baby. 🙂 Anyway, the reason I cried more watching your video is because now I KNOW how incredibly charming little baby boys are, and I’m so happy for you! Congratulations!

Ok, the praise the lord was so cute!
I have a 17 month old boy. I always wanted a girl, but now I can’t imagine having one! You will love having a little guy!

Yay for boys! Congrats! I have two little boys and they keep you busy. We even had to retrieve a little piece of bark out of our 3-year-old’s nose yesterday. Don’t ask.

I was sure with each of my three pregnancies that I was having a girl — especially the third one, when I looked and felt completely different from the first two. Mary Kate, Rosemary Grace and Sarah Catherine became John Brian (27), Daniel Keane (25) and William George (19). My envy over the vast shopping opportunities in the girls’ department were offset by the advantage of being the only person in my household with PMS… ever.
BOYS ROCK!

YAY! Congrats to you and Jeremy! I have a one year old boy and he is my whole heart. You will love having a little boy! They are so sweet. Mine is napping right now and I miss him almost enough to go wake him up…I said almost 🙂 Anyway, I can’t wait to see what you do in the nursery. I fell in love with Pottery Barn’s Eli’s Elephants so we have light blues and greens with a little brown mixed in. Oh, btw the pee pee teepee is a waste. By the time you put it where it goes, you could have had the diaper on! I recommend wipe warmers though. The shock of a cold wipe in the middle of the night is too much for my sweet boy’s buns!
Holly says
Congratulations Katie and Jeremy!!! My friend gave birth to a short, chubby and totally adorable little boy yesterday and named him Tylan Jobe. I hope everything is going well with your pregnancy!

This is wonderful news! I love the way you announced it, very cool idea.
Sunny's Life in Rehab says
Oh, Katie, you have so much to look forward to! Boys are easier (and this is from a rampant feminist), but keep an eye on that “up periscope” when you change him! They have dead on aim for your face at birth!
Julie says
Congrats! My second is a boy and I highly recommend the ‘pee pee tee pees” (my little guy squirted himself in the mouth at the hospital thanks to my unpreparedness) and having plenty of gauze and vaseline on hand if you plan to snip the little guy 🙂
My little guy is my tender hearted lover boy/destroyer. Gotta love those boys!

Woohoo!!! I’m the Mama to two little boys (just turned 4 years and a 5.5 year old). They are my world! I don’t know if you’re reading all these comments, but I really (really) recommend reading this book:

It really helped me understand my little boys so much better.
Congratulations again–it’s an incredible journey!

Thanks Armchairdesign…I am definitely adding it to my book list on Amazon. Gotta love it when a book is gender specific 🙂

I love having a boy (and I think you will too from what I know of you guys!!!) Congrats!!! Little boys protect their moms and worship their dads!

Congrats. We have an 11 month old boy and my only advice is that it is called a penis… not a wee-wee or winkypoo (whatever either of those mean, but I think they are both referring to genitals, and who knows which gender either belongs to?). Perhaps I am just not getting your humor these days.
allbowerpower says
Hey Renee,
Thanks for the genital advice. And here’s a little secret – most people don’t get my humor either 🙂

I’m glad you didn’t take that comment personally. I think I was kind of grouchy when I read the post/wrote the comment; while I do promote the use of correct terminology when possible, I must say that my post was a bit moody (especially for someone who is not currently pregnant… perhaps the signs of non-pregnancy are why I was so moody? That, by the way, is the best thing about being pregnant, if you catch my drift!). I remember how miserable I was when I was pregnant (morning sickness all 9 months… lame!), and I don’t know what possessed me to say something so grumpy to a pregnant woman.
Good luck with the pregnancy, and my best recommendation (apart from genital terminology… what was I thinking?) is to read the book Easy Labor. It gives a great run-down of all the pain management options and it was a huge relief to know it on the front end, rather than hearing about it moments before I had to make decisions (while also having contractions). I’m editing my baby gear/birthing/nursing manifesto right now and will be posting it to my own blog in the next few days (my cousin just announced that she is pregnant, and I had to type it up for her! I have some strong opinions about baby gear after trial-and-erroring for the past 11 months!)
allbowerpower says
Renee – Eeek! Nine months of morning sickness? Wow – that must have been ridiculously hard. I am sooo lucky that didn’t happen to me…otherwise baby Bower would be an only child 🙂 Thanks for the book recommendation…I will definitely put it on my must-read list!

*smiles* I’m the mom of an 18-month-old boy (born June of ’08). It’s great! The part I love is that other moms seem to be a lot more accepting of things like letting the munchkin run around in bare feet in the grass when it’s a boy than a girl (my mom-friends with girls constantly complain about perfect strangers telling them how to dress and raise their girl-children).
luuve says
i love it! congrats on the new baby boy!

I have to speak up. I know I’m two years late on this, but I’m just reading through the archives, and as a mother to both boys and a girl, I’m shocked at the amount of over-generalizing and sexism in many of the comments.
Babies, children, are people first. Some little girls are ruff and tuff little ragamuffins, and some little guys are sweet and shy. Etc. Why do we have to put them into these tiny little boxes full of heavy expectations before they are even born?
Plus, there seems to be such a trend up there (in the comments) that boys are better. I’m sure no one really feels that way about their own kids, but if I can hear it in these comments, you can bet your kids can hear it too.
Anyways, I couldn’t read any more without saying something. I am very happy for you and I’m sure you are totally blown away by how much of an individual your little guy is.
c says
Please do not get your little one “snipped” like one of the commentors up mentioned. It is a cruel and purely cosmetic procedure that can harm your little boy’s penis for ever. It is absolutely unnecessary and only in the US is it considered normal. I am from South Asia and this is unheard of except Muslims who perform circumcision.

I am a big fan of your blog Katie…only want to make sure you know all the facts beforehand. God intended for your child to be perfect as he is when he is born of your womb…
