Oh boy.
No really. a boy.
it would be great.
I would still be the little princess in the house and the boys could take care of me. (don’t even try to screw up my dream here Negative Nancy. Yes, my infant son will take care of me! Because I AM A PRINCESS DANG GUMMIT!)
If it’s a boy. We still don’t know. What we do know is that I can’t wait to share my initial moodboard with you about a little boy’s nursery. So without further adeiu here she is (or he is…if you care about the moodboard gender):
COLORS – The walls area already light blue and I would love to work in browns, tans, and whites to make this nursery a big boy’s room. Think hunting lodge (minus the guns of course….we wanna wait on that until the kid is two at least till we introduce artillery). And maybe even work in a wall mural that screams WOODS….BABY YOU WERE LEFT IN THE WOODS.
FURNITURE – We scored the crib at a great deal and the folks must have kept their own little girl with mittens on her hands – cause it looks scratch-free. Keeping it the dark brown would look perfectly appropriate for our woodsy lodge theme. And the cheap storage piece that my mother gave me (years after she pulled it outta a neighbor’s trash) would be perfect for stashing extra toys, diapers, and my tiaras. Afterall…I am a princess 🙂 And a princess needs a chair to put her patootie whilst she gets skinny feeding her baby. Pulling in a recliner or a rocker with dark leather will not only contribute to our lodge feel but also be easy cleanup and oh-so-transitional for other rooms. Lastly, Jeremy & I decided that we don’t want a changing table. A bookshelf or a dresser would be more our style and we are still on the hunt for something that would fit perfectly in the room.
LIGHTING – We scored a great oversized glass bottomed lamp with a white linen shade that will work perfectly beside the rock-a-bye-baby chair. Not only is it easy to incorporate into any colorscheme…it also has a dimmer which would be great for putting that baby to bed. The overhead lighting is a little hands-on-let’s-get-crafty project. I plan to take a regular ole chandelier…you know the kind…it used to hang in every dining room in America in the 80’s….and I want to wire branches to it. Free branches, mind you. And then after we strap all the branches for a faux bois style lighting fixture, then we are gonna spraypaint the sucker till it looks like uber expensive…rather than a $10 chandelier. Paul Bunyon would be proud.
LINENS – Obviously, we are not the kinda people to put bedding into a room that is loaded down with trains and butterfly’s and doggies. First of all…I would probably make fun of the kid if he ever fell asleep with his mouth open because a doggie bottom would be right there on the bedsheet. I guess I am not mature cute loving enough yet. We’ll work on that for baby #2. So it must be plain. Plain and basic. The Target bedding in the upper corner is a good starting block for our bedding inspiration. Plus it pulls in our blues and our browns. One hundred points for me. And nothing beats a pair of white linen curtains…with a classic white curtain rod (that looks like it will have millions of miles left in it well after the baby is not a baby anymore!)
ACCESSORIES – Dude, I am all about owls right now. And I think that a few wise old birds wouldn’t hurt a lodge nursery room. In fact, they might keep an eye on my little tike for me…ya know, CAUSE I AM A PRINCESS. Work in a couple faux animal skin rugs or pillows, a birch vase or catchall, and a few baskets for gathering Little Einstein toys, and our nursery is complete.
So there you have it folks – one nursery for a little boy. Call it what you will…a lodge nursery, a cabin nursery, or a redneck house nursery…either way, it is all boy and looks to me like something that keeps my (possible) little man looking uber-masculine. No pink here folks – he has to be at least six to request that one 🙂
Oh – and stay tuned for tomorrow’s nursery – it’s all GIRL….and the end of my princesshood 🙂

Again…I’m amused at the similarities. We are doing owls too. I have a thing for owls, majorly.

I absolutely love the lodge theme nursery!! The wallpaper and chandelier are AMAZING! I might steal the chandelier idea 🙂
Just a thought, you may want to spray paint the chandelier with a light coat of paint before you attach the branches because it could be difficult to get paint in all the crevices.
Sarah says
I love the way everything pulls together – this is a really sweet nursery idea!

Love It!! Adorable… I also felt the same way about a changing table but after you get home with that little one and you are so sore the last thing you want to do is put him on the floor, or in the middle of the night – In comes your boyfriend who you can trick into doing it for you… good plan!! ♥

The holiday section at Target has some very cabin looking decorations that could possibly work. I know for a fact there are multiple owls.
Lesley says
Very cute and he will not outgrow it as quickly as a room with a lot of baby charachter things in it.
Jo says
i likey 🙂 are you firm on the leather chair? i like it, but will it be comfy enough??
Krysta says
very cute moodboard! can you please share where you found that tan tree pattern?!
allbowerpower says
Hey Jo – No I am not firm on the chair. I like the idea of a leather recliner…because it could age well and clean up easily. But as a design element…it is more an idea rather than a “I MUST HAVE THIS EXACT CHAIR OR ELSE I WILL NOT FEED MY CHILD” kinda thing 😉 If you find a chic leather chair for cheap, you let me know!

I really like that. My son’s nursery was Blue and brown. No childish bedding either. I can appreciate your whole design and it is smart because he can grow into it too. You can easily transition into a room with a big boy bed. The only problem comes into play when they start making their own design choices. Like my 2 year old wanted his walls to be painted orange. And he wants cars and monster trucks all over the walls. Translation for me, grey walls and a new pair of orange pj’s with a monster truck on them.

And if you remember I offered to do a mural for your baby’s room. Well, I know you guys are big diyers so I must refer you to my Best Friends Blog where she has a pattern for the beautiful birch tree mural. She did it on her bedroom wall and she sells it on etsy. All you’ll need is a projector, which I’m sure you can borrow one from your church.

That’s such an adorable mood board! Since you’re into owls I thought you might be amused by this: in Dijon, France the word for owl is the same word for cool. Can’t wait to see the girl board!

I’m totally into owls too. I just want owl EVERYTHING. What a great idea to bring it into a boys room. Can’t wait to see the girl’s room!

I really like this room idea!!! Very chic!

Looks awesome. I would look into possibly layering some blackout curtains underneath your linen curtains. That way you get the look you want, but the functionality that is oh so helpful of creating that dark environment for the little sleeper. Keeps my kiddos down longer. Just sayin. 🙂

That link with the stencils is exactly what I was looking for for my bedroom. Thank you for sharing.

Very sweet. I’m pulling a woodlands feel for our baby. We will wait to find out the sex. So right now it will simply remain browns and cremes. I think I’m just going to let the baby share my office (we have two office spaces, mine’s more of a crafting area/office) so that I’ll be close by and still have good use of house space.
We won’t have a changing table either, just lots of changing pads, but as an FYI, I did read a comment on ohdeedoh from a mom who said her changing table was a lifesaver in light of a c-section. So if it comes to that, I’ll keep an open mind.
Thanks for sharing.

I just recently found your blog and I love it! You have great ideas and this nursery is another one of them. Thanks for the ideas and inspirations!

Dear Kalyn & Jennifer, I found the birch planter on Etsy but it seems as though they don’t have it on there anymore. I would search for ‘birch vase’ for other options!
Happy Shopping!

I’m no baby expert, but my sis-in-law has used a dresser with the contoured changing pad on top for 2 babies and really likes it (I think this is what you are wanting to do?). It pretty much is just like a changing table from what I can tell?? She also changed them on the floor 90% of the time after they were newborns. I had no idea changing table was such a pregnancy hot topic though, it has been really interesting to see everyone’s opinions!! Thanks for sharing!!
Michele with 1 "L" says
My baby is 5 yrs old now, but we did not go the changing table route either. All the ones I saw were ugly (in my opinon) and I could not see any use for them once she was out of diapers. Her room is TINY (think walk-in closet) and we could only fit in her crib, a dresser, and a rocker. We used my childhood dresser that my dad painted white and changed out the knobs. We got a contoured changing pad from Babies R Us and used that to change her most of the time. It was the perfect height for me. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2574731
We kept diapers, wipes, ointment, etc in the top drawer for easy access, onesies and pjs in the 2nd drawer, and sheets in the bottom drawer. Now she keeps some books and her jewelry box on top of the dresser, and the drawers are filled with clothes clothes clothes. (She’s the princess in our house!!)

we love the same bedding for a boy!

I love your blog.. I’ve been an avid reader for a while now, just a litttle shy on the comment posting.
I love how manly you made the room…pale blues, greens and yellows can get really washed out.
Keep up the good work.. on the blog and the baby 🙂
