Remember how I posted my Autumn Goals back in August?
wait. wait. funny story – must tell. Sorry for the interruption but it’s on the brain. So I was super happy because my Pappap called me and asked me to tell him my blog address so that he could give it out at his meeting. What meeting? I have no clue. Probably either his church elder meeting, or his Oddfellas meeting, or his Mason meeting. All three situations are funny to think about. So anyhoo…he told me that and I proceeded to tell my mom, Crazy Unicorn lady, who in turn gasped and snapped her head toward my general direction. Then she said “oh no honey, you can’t let him read that…you use the F-word!!!” So then I was all like “WHAAAAT??!” and Jeremy was all like “WHAAAT?!?!” and my sister Lori was all like “WHAAAT?!?!” And then they all three proceeded to look at me like I had just sacrificied a live animal in the kitchen. And then my sister asked with this voice of disbelief, “Katie – you used the F-word on the blog?” And I was like NO I DI’N’T! And my mom said – “You know you did Katie. You said….” and then she started to whisper (because that is how my mother says dirty words), “…fart”. And then I died.
That story is totally worth the interruption, right?!?
Ok – so back to my goal accomplishing post.
Number #11 got slashed this past week when we went up to good ole Tennessee for a family style picnic and bonfire.
Pastor Dad and his wife Nurse Vicki hosted the wee get-together of 65 people in their backyard.
And after the grilling duties were done,
everyone gathered around the warmth of the firepit (the same one that Jeremy helped repair this past summer!)
and listened to the Bluegrass trio who belted out song after corny joke after corny joke.
I was in heaven. And it helped that the lead musician was a bonafide redneck. There is nothing better than an indoor-outdoor-carpet-in-the-outhouse joke than when told by someone wearing a Dale Earnhardt jacket. swoon.
And the good toe-tappin fun didn’t stop there. No sirree ricky bobby. After that, Pastor Dad belted out a crowd favorite. It was the song that brought Jeremy & I together. It was also our first dance at our wedding and I fully plan on having quiet births of all my boyfriend’s future babies with this hum-dinger playing in the background.
Yes – it was Bill Grogan’s goat.
After #11 was crossed off the list…again…and again…and again…I was all smiles.
Gooey-marshmellowy-chocolatey-deliciousness will do that everytime. They should really create a gum that tastes like smores. I would totally buy it. Especially if it was sugar-free.
And then to my great surprise, another sweet thing happened. One of the folks at the bonfire asked if I wanted to use his superfast low aperature lens (that is currently on my wishlist-hintJeremyhinthint). And then I went around testing the thing until I was blue in the face. Just check out my honey-bunny:
Fantastico, no? I think I am in love.
And I like the lens too 🙂
So that is my first of many Autumn goals that is getting knocked off the list…wish me luck as I get the others done…and tell me (when you are wishing me luck obviously) what is the funnest thing you have done this fall so far? Is it shopping for halloween costumes (mine to come on Thursday!) or maybe it was visiting a pumpkin patch? or maybe it was just walking outside after a long day at work to see the leaves drifting off the trees with the cool Autumn wind and the smell of October? Whatever your fun fall experience…please do share. I love celebrating this fart….I mean…part of the year. Sorry Papppap.

Hi Katie!! I love your blog… you are creative and funny! 🙂 What kind of camera do you use? And what kind of lens did you try out? I just bought my first “real” camera last year and I’m finally starting to figure out how it works.

Hi Molly –
I have a Canon Rebel and the lens that I got to give a whirl was the Canon 50mm f/1.8 which was super fun especially since I don’t normally take darker shots 🙂
Hope this helps – I know that I still need a bunch of learnin’ when it comes to photography 🙂
XO – Katie

I definitely had the most fun taking a road trip to a Texas (Country Reporter) festival last weekend. Only in Waxahachie will you see grey-haired ladies dancing to Gospel Rappers singing, “pull yo pants up.” The weather was wonderful, I had funnel cake in my mouth, and it was perfect!

Funniest fall experience so far is making my Halloween costume with my mom. It’s a cupcake and we have no pattern and very limited sewing skills so it’s been interesting and hilarious. Hope it gets done before Saturday! Katie, I hope you’re going to be bacon for H-ween.

I love reading your blog because you’re so upbeat and cheerful. Oh, and I love your corny quips, too. 🙂
The story about your Papppap and Mom is A-DOR-A-BLE!

you are such a trip!! I love it! 🙂
Hoping to keep working on my list too – hopefully the bonfire for us this weekend! I’ll keep ya updated and eat a toasty marshmallow for you! 😉
Good luck with the rest of yours!

Wow the lens is great. The images so clear. I love smores. We made some in the city on a deck with a gas grill. That was interesting.

Ok, so the ** whisper ** fart side story totally would happen in my parents house. In fact, my 3-yr old niece just recently learned that its funny to announce when she farts – so she shouted it out during a family dinner a couple weekends ago and my grandmother about died!!

Ingenious marshmellow/hot dog stick. Ours our shaped more like Y’s, so the stuff is prone to fall off the end. I need to find some like yours!

Totally laughing about the “F” word! And I totally want to try a fancy superfast low aperture lens. I didn’t even know they made such a thing!

Hysterical!!! When I taught first grade, I had two little girls run up to me at lunch, screaming, “Casen said the F-word!” Little Casen looks at me straight-faced and says, “I said they fart. They do fart. Everyone farts. Even you, Mrs. —.” (We had a little talk about lunch-table conversation skills.)
I also learned the D-word (dummy) and the SH-word (shut up!) that year.
