I have a ridiculous number of photos from this summer. Stuff that happened. Stuff that was only 30% interesting. Stuff that only I would be eager to revisit down the line.
But then the little voice in my head (it kinda sounds like Snow White of 7 dwarf fame) starts to sing with her ridiculous vibrato, “Do you want to know a secret Katie? Do you promise not to tell? The secret is that blogging is just for you. And that I’m in a poker club with Ariel and Belle. Just whistle while you work!”
Yes – I dream in Disney.
I am in therapy for it.
But the point is – this post is old, probably boring, and most likely just for little ole me. If you are bored anyway, well this is not going to rid you of your boredom. It will only pass the time till the next moment that you feel…unbored.
Back in May, Jeremy & I went to Tennessee and visited Pastor Dad & his wife, Nurse Vicki. While we were there, Pastor Dad pointed out how some trees had fallen – taking out a portion of his deck railing and damaging the fence that surrounds his fire pit.
This fire pit is a special place for me. Several years ago…before Jeremy & I were Jeremy & I, I visited a friend in Tennessee. She invited me to a bonfire. It was at the Bower’s house. I had met Jeremy a couple months before. And he was hot in pursuit. I had just agreed to go on a date with my future-boyfriend. Pastor Dad & Nurse Vicki had no clue. They spent the night trying to start a fire between Jeremy & another random chick. She had a pretty face and I didn’t see a single smore hit her lips. Humorous. But it really was an unbelievable experience. Fire roaring. A bag of marshmellows being stuffed into my face. Jeremy looking all uncomfortable with Pretty-Face-Girl. Pastor Dad singing Bill Grogan’s Goat. The next day Jeremy spilled the beans about his upcoming date – with me…not Miss S’more-less.
We all still laugh about it now. Good times.
Anyhoo…the fence was in need of mending. And Jeremy thought that it would be a heck of a lot easier to partner up with his pops to get the job done.
First they measured any board they needed.
Then measured the boards.
Then they used a straight edge to mark their line.
I love that this straight edge has CWB carved onto it. I think that makes it Jeremy’s great-great-great-grandfathers…Claude William Bower. I think.
Then they used a circular saw to cut the board to length.
Side note – we are DeWalt people. Sure, we have a Bosch jigsaw and a Rigid Shop-vac…but for the most part, we do DeWalt. And if you have any DeWalt tools that you want to send our way…maybe because you are independently wealthy or just in the mood to help out a blogger who needs her fix…I promise you one million points and perhaps I will name our first-born-puppy after you 🙂 How’s that for a good trade?!
So the boys got to nailing the boards in place.
And soon – the entire back was complete.
Around the edges – they did little L brackets to hold things in place – just in case Kayne West decided to get drunk and lean on the railing while stealing thunder from a 17 year old like he was the voice of reason….I mean….just in case someone decided to lean on the railing during a church campfire 🙂
And I just can’t help but laughing here…
heehee HAHA hohohum
Pastor Dad – his face cracks me up. The tongue. The intensity. The half-smile. Oh…it’s moments like this that I am so glad that I have my camera. Sorry Pastor Dad – I just had to.
For the most part – this was one of the first times that I had seen these two work together to build or repair something. And honestly – besides the mocking of Pastor Dad…I loved it.
I hope Jeremy works this well with our future kids one day.
I guess most gals dream about that. Nobody dreams about their husband NOT teaching their kids how to do stuff. I think it is our role as a woman. We dream about white picket fences and perfect tea parties and husbands who teach their boys how to throw a football. It is in our blood. It is the dreamer’s blood.
So I guess that I will have to wait until I can find out if my dream will come true.
Until then – I will just look at this picture of Pastor Dad.
And this one.
They make me laugh so hard. so good. soo snortily.
I hope Jeremy makes those faces one day. That is another dream of mine.
And yes – I took a picture of Pastor Dad & Jeremy after it was all completed…blowing it up. My four-year-old nephew Cole taught us that. So of course – we passed the info on 🙂
And there we have it – one mended fence, one post chock full of pictures that probably only make me laugh, and one fun time dreaming about what Jeremy will be like when he grows up.
So what about you? What do you dream about? Please say ‘more pics of Pastor Dad’…I know it would just make my day 🙂

I think Jeremy will definitely make faces like that when he grows up. Their faces look so much alike! It’s nice to remember that women do share such similar dreams in regard to future children. I’m glad you posted, haven’t seen much from you lately and you always make me smile. You could always throw in another random bacon tribute ;o)

There is something about the 2nd picture from the bottom that makes your boyfriend remind me of Tim McGraw. Don’t ask, it’s Friday.
Pastor Dad says
Well…my favorite daughter-in-law…you have married a man who will put me to shame when it comes to fathering. He will be a great dad…and you will be an awesome mom!! Now you know what Papa B looked like. Ha! We love you both!
Taryn says
Well, I was so focused on the dad faces that I almost failed to notice that your boyfriend and my (husband) Chris have the same shirts. Not only that- but Chris just wore his yesterday. Cool. Old Navy is pretty sweet. Almost as sweet at that there fence.
Lara says
Just wanted to say I enjoyed your post! And I do think every girl dreams about all those little things… I know I do! 🙂
Suzy says
OK I have a question for you…… Is your boyfriend a Red Sox fan or a Yankees fan… because you CANNOT be both, and I’ve seen him wearing a hat for each.
Laura says
It’s funny that Heather mentions your boyfriend looking like Tim McGraw. Cause ‘Pastor Dad’ looks like Ed Norton. 😉

Sarah says
I just realized you guys have the same names as my brother-in-law and his wife! The fence looks super. PS don’t ever stop being cheesy. I love it. I wish my cheese translated better into my writing!
Meg says
I’ve gotta say it too (even before I saw Laura’s comment). Pastor Dad looks EXACTLY like Edward Norton.
Jamie says
Love it.
PS – I’ve got to out-do Taryn’s post. My husband has that exact pair of camo shorts boyfriend is wearing and he is also a Yankees fan and we also live in Georgia. oh – and I’m from Tennessee. The similarities are freaky. 😉
