Girly Glamour.
That’s what we shall call this one.
And it would look really cute for a little girl, dontcha think? I know that I cared about my nursery as an infant 🙂
COLORS – The walls will stay the light blue – ya know, for a bit of contrast – and I want to really make the pink pop so blue will be the perfect backdrop for splashes of white and pink. I am going for girly and glamorous….something that I would like. Because obviously if this little tike is a girl – then we need to program her into being just like me since I am so uber awesome. (wait – does saying the word ‘uber’ make me awesome or creepy?)
FURNITURE – The crib that we scored off craigslist will get a little revamp (can I use the word ‘vamp’ when talking about a baby girl?) in the form of white paint. And instead of the leather recliner, a white upholstered chair (with a matching ottoman) will give me some cush for a soon-to-be-very-worn-out tush. The cheap storage piece (that is still high on my to-do list) will be great for mini dresses and matching sparkly shoes. And the jury is still out on the changing table/dresser with cushion/knee pads for floor changes debate. I will definitely have to get something stomach height if a c-section comes into play…but otherwise, I think I might be too lazy to actually stand while changing the pooper snooper. Either way, a bookshelf might be the best idea to take up a little wall space and allow extra toy storage.
LIGHTING – The oversized glass bottom lamp (not shown above) will still be a great addition as well as the white faux bois style fixture (that I plan on making with my own two preggo hands). You can read all about how I wanna DIY it here.
LINENS – Bold pink linens would really pop against the blue and the white. The pink polkadot curtains and pompom pillow will have our little girl feeling like a princess (from PBTeen). And the pink & white polkadot fitted sheet (from Target) will go very nicely with a pink & white bedskirt (from PBkids). Lastly, I wanna work in some fun colorful fabrics in the form of throw pillows either for baby cuddling or for supporting during feeding.
ACCESSORIES – Number one accesssory in my book would be a huge white ornate mirror. Pastor Dad generously handed one down to us that used to belong to Aunt Jo…and wouldn’t it be oh-so-special to give the baby girl a piece of that great great Aunt who really was great great? Other than that – I think a white owl would be a nice touch. Afterall, the kid has got to learn to love wildlife if wolves are gonna raise her! ooowwww!
So there you have it – a few little ideas for sprucing up our office into a baby abode fit for a princess. Any favorite parts? Are you hating the woodsy light? How bout any more votes in the changing table debate? Anyone think that it might be too grown-up? That I might be forcing my undetermined daughter into teenagehood too soon? Well, I figure we might as well talk about boys right away….after all, she is going to be uber-awesome, right?

love the mood board! wanted to chime in concerning the changing table. . . we used a buffet. it was the perfect height and the top drawer (meant for table linens, i’m sure) held bumGenius diapers perfectly.
on an unrelated note, i wanted to give you some “natural” encouragement. my first was breech (c-section, boo!)and i went natural with my second: 17 hours of unmedicated back labor. not at the top of my “uber-fun things to do” list, but i managed. my husband and i took bradley classes and had a doula. veeeery helpful. sadly, baby #2 (although head-down) was not turned quite right and i ended up with another c-section, but i’m still glad i gave it a go and am even hoping to get a baby to turn the right way and get borned without surgical intervention next time around.
praying for you and the boyfriend – what a magical time this is! pat the baby belly for me.
Mary Evers says
Where will you get a white owl?
Mary Evers says
I forgot to mention my concern about your chair choice. I hope it’s slipcovered because babies have been known to spit up right after you feed them. You’ll need something washable.
*claire* says
i really like that – the mix of pink and blue – so it’s girly, but doesn’t scream BABY GIRL. i think it’s smart to invest in a room that will grow with the baby — and not have to be completely changed in a few years. about the changing table debate – would you use a mat on the floor if you didn’t have a table (i don’t know how these baby things work!)
Laura says
Ok, I wanna get in on this changing table debate. I refrained from saying anything yesterday but since you asked… I didn’t have one. I think they’re ugly, messy and take up space. I had the changing pad on the dresser thing. Used it maybe half the time for the first 5 months. I mostly changed him on the floor or on the couch cuz I was too busy to get up from watching my shows all day. (it’s a joke ladies, don’t report me) – And if you don’t have the set up and you wind up having a c-section than you can just change the baby on a towel on the bed or something. After he got too squirmy i changed him on the floor, then i didnt have to worry about walking away or whatever. So after 6 months you are stuck having to store a piece of furniture for the next kid. But that’s just my opinion, I hope no one gets mad.
Laura says
Oh and about the room, it’s so pretty! The mirror is really special. She’ll have that forever! I’m sure she’ll be uber-awesome.
Rachel says
Love both the boy & girl ideas you’ve dreamt up. As they say, a baby can’t fully appreciate a room so don’t create for those first few months of life. Therefore, I think your designs are perfect, something that can be grown into and stay around for a little while.
Rachel says
and no, i’m not a fan of the changing table. BUT, i don’t have any munchkins either. i do like the little cushion on the dresser. not sure if you’re concerned about the space or the actual option!
kelly@TearingUpHouses says
I’m really into big, white ornate mirrors like that, right now. Sort of a clean South Beach feel to me. I would have preferred that this one, http://tearinguphouses.blogspot.com/2009/09/before-after-pictures-little-blue-house.html , actually be more like the one that you have. And the fact that it’s meaningful is even better!

Um. I LOVE IT!!
Jeannette says
LOVE LOVE LOVE the mirror! I want one! lol. I think for the girl though, that you might want to go super sparkly with the chandy. Like lots of sparkle. She needs to learn about bling as soon as possible, ya know? I think for a girl, that a sparkly chandy is a must have! Otherwise, I’m totally jealous and really want to have a baby girl now.
mango says
just fyi, many babies looove to chew on cribs, so painting a crib is not usu. recommended, even if you have non’toxic paint, you will be picking paint chips outta the baby’s mouth…
L.Duncan says
LOOOOOVVVEE IT!
Grace says
responding to the chewing concern brought up by mango: you could always paint and then buy those clear teething guard rails that’ll cover where baby bower might chew. i think you’ll only need to use them across the long bars… i’ve yet to see any baby chew on the vertical slats. whose head is that small? 😉
on to the changing table debate: i used dresser that was waist height and a changing pad. i loved not having to get down on my knees to change my son. i do that often enough when we’re not at home, but i loved having a dresser changing table. plus, when he’s older, i can repurpose the it!
Carrie says
Love both the boy and girl rooms! I don’t have any kiddos, but I’ve seen a dresser-turned-changing-table by creating a removable top. The top has sides so baby doesn’t roll off, then later you can take the top off and it’s just a regular dresser.
Katie says
My little one is 18 months, so definitely no changing table for us anymore, but we opted to do without one anyway. For a room we just plopped a changing pad on the dresser and changed her there. In the living room she usually just got changed on the couch. I figured having a dedicated changing table in her room was waste since I was unlikely to ever use it if I wasn’t already in her room.
As for the mood board… it’s fantastic! I really love the patterned pillow. Where’s it from?
allbowerpower says
Hey Katie –
The patterned pillow is from PBTeen – and it is currently on sale (wahoo!)
Here is the link!
Happy Shopping 🙂

This board is beautiful too! I really do love the woodsy light idea, I can’t wait to see how it turns out. As far as the changing table goes, obviously you should do what works for you, but as somebody who’s been a baby-sitter and a nanny for way too long, I kind of expect a baby-changing table. Also, if you do decide to have a bazillion kids (sounds awesome by the way, I want a huge family too – my mom was one of 15 and it’s such a fun family), do you really want to be kneeling on the ground to change one kid if you’re pregosaurus with another one? Just some thoughts, I’m sure you’ve already taken them into account, but you asked 🙂
Heather says
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of blue walls in a girls room. It really does make the pink pop. And that patterend throw pillow is ADORABLE!
Also, to put in my two cents about the changing table… We were given one as a gift and were not planning on getting one. Let me tell ya, it’s been a lifesaver! My daughter is 20 months and we still use it!
That said, I have a bad back, So… you can take that for what it’s worth. Haha! Happy baby nursery shopping!
melisa says
Can please move into this room!
Jennifer says
this is TOO CUTE. love the pink and blue. I’m with you on the no-changing-table (do you care what a non-mom thinks?? ha) — seriously, what are you supposed to do with them post-babies? to me, a little chest is the way to go (er, it will be one day).
Sherrie says
I wouldn’t really see it as a debate. Your baby, your preference. I am always thankful to hear what worked for others though even if it can make one’s head spin.
Sometimes I take a snobby approach to being minimalistic or I see others take a snobby approach to having a baby emporium in their home complete with everything that stores say a baby needs, and then I hear a good point about having something and not having something and just take a mental note for later and tune down my “I’m so proud to be different” tone and realize that everyone has his or her own needs. There are far too many debates when it comes to babying, so this one I would say is on the easy side.
The hot item baby debate to avoid is stay-at-home vs. working mom. Whew. That one can get violent. 🙂
Sherrie says
Oh, tee.hee., and I love the all-white furniture and the ornate mirror, by the way. Tre chic.
Christi says
we have very similar taste! love this one!
Emily says
Uber does not make you sound creepy, it makes you sound awesome (I say this only because I myself use an excessive amount of ubers in my life and wouldn’t like to be thought of as creepy). So uber my friend is cool.
Holly says
hey there 🙂 i L-O-V-E the brancy chandelier and can’t wait for the step by step so i can steal your idea! it rocks in your boy mood board. for the girl’s, it makes me think of fairy tales, especially snow white – not that i wish your daughter eternal slumber, just maybe 8hrs a night?
Nikki says
I love the girls room! It is VERY similar to what I envisioned if we were having a girl(we are having a boy), so I don’t think it’s too “teen”. As far as a changing table goes, I didn’t want a changing table. I didn’t think it would be that big of a deal and I ended up buying one when my 1st son was 5 months old.It was a big deal for me. It made things so much easier. Now it is a must have baby #2.
Dee says
Katie: Stop reading my mind!! Honestly, though, this is pretty darn close to my own vision for our little gal’s nursery. Check out my blog in a few weeks for the plans…..
Austyn says
I think it’s adorable. Sweet, but not nauseating. I especially like that there is no real theme (read: one pattern that a retailer sells as everything from sheets to curtains to tiny towels). Not too grown up, and nothing that can’t be reaccessorized into a boys room later ;o)
Focipresley (Bon) says
Katie – is the crib a drop side one? I just read that Inez Tenenbaum, the head of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, said “that all drop-side cribs by any manufacturer are unsafe and parents should stop using them`
Just wanted to share, because I care!
allbowerpower says
Thanks Focipresley – I do not believe that it is a drop-side crib. I believe (according to the PB website) that it has an adjustable mattress platform so that when Baby Bower packs on the pounds and grows like a weed, we can lower the base to still provide a safe place to sleep (and jump. kidding.) Have you heard anything about adjustable mattress platforms?
Thanks again – and remember, sharing is caring 🙂
XO – KBlub
Focipresley (Bon) says
Dear KBlub (smiles for the new nickname):
Nope, haven’t heard of any issues with the mattress adjustment feature! As long as there is a minimal gap between the mattress and wall of crib (I believe it should be less than 2 cm, but don’t quote me on that!).
I love the PB crib you found. I am pleased for you, and can’t wait to see the room when it’s done!
Keep your chin up, you are beautiful inside and out… no need for the nickname!
