Since it’s coming up on the end of January I thought I would share my wreath of the month. Hip hip hooray for wreaths! Yes, I get weirdly excited about the dumbest things….including a-DOOR-naments for your home 🙂 Pun…no extra charge 🙂
Anyhoo…I mentioned as one of my 2015’s goals I wanted to make a new wreath each month and I am here to share what I came up with this month.
It’s my version of fresh and winter in one. I wanted to try my hand at a pinecone wreath for a while now and winter is the most seasonally appropriate time, right?! I simply went pinecone hunting with Will one afternoon and we came back with an entire bag full and one lizard sighting. I also used one of those wire wreath frames that you can get for under $5 at Walmart. I used some craft wire to attach it and I think it was eighty-eight cents.
There are probably much better ways to attach pine cones to wreath forms but I just wrapped it with wire till it was evenly balanced looking. I know there are lots of Pinterest tutorials on how to make pine cone wreaths and I looked at a few…but they seemed really tedious trying to get that wire hidden and everything still secure. I ended up making mine visible because I figured that the spray paint would blend everything together.
I used a crazy color….just because I am nuts like that. Also because nothing says “it’s not Christmas anymore like Green Apple”.
I strapped a piece of fabric to the top to hang it. Nothing fancy….but still goes with my whole winter-not-christmas theme.
Overall, really really fun to get my hands dirty with a little craft….especially since we have been neck deep in basement cleaning/emptying/moving/renovating. How bout you guys? Make any wreaths this month? Share em in the comments! I’d love to see them!

Great idea. I love how it turned out. I had several Christmas projects that I didn’t get to last fall so I’ve pledged to get them done now. One of the projects is an ornament wreath. I’m sure you’ve seen them on Pinterest. I bought some ornaments on clearance at Target and At Home for really cheap. I made my wreath Sunday afternoon, and it looks fabulous. I’m already looking forward to decorating for Christmas this year.

I am excited about your wreath-a-month goal this year, Katie! I’m hoping to add a (home-made) wreath to my collection this year. (Does having one Christmas wreath count as a “collection?”)

So pretty! I love that it’s simple and nature-y, but makes a big impact… Great job!

I am making your heart wreath for Valentines day right now! I am trying to do it for free, so all I had to wrap the pool noodle was an old red t shirt – ripped it up and it looks pretty good… I’ll have to post the pic when I’m done..
Have you made a balloon wreath yet? Easy easy easy and looks great for all the birthday parties.

making a wreath can be very troublesome! But i love the challenge and hassle of making something really beautiful, i just don’t like to make the frame of the wreath, but it is the most important element of the whole thing because it holds the structure properly, i get my wreath frame from amazon actually, it’s really cheap and i usually buy it in bulk before christmas 🙂 here’s the one that i recommend it to u! http://goo.gl/l49n3c

Adorbs! We wont find any pinecones around here until the four feet of snow we’ve received melts, in June. I’m inspired though! Currently attempting a Valentine’s Day wreath to add to my meager collection. Can’t wait to see next months!

I love that color! It does scream “not Christmas” with the apple green. Iboike how full the line cones are layered around. I have not gotten into wreath making a ton for my home. I need to upy game and make more.

Cute cuuute. I love the color choice – perfectly non-Christmasy. 🙂 I need to seriously get organized with my project/craft ideas because I daydream about things like making wreaths and then totally lose track of it when I walk into my chaotic and disorganized office/craft room. *le sigh. Where do you store all of your craft stuff? I don’t think I’ve seen it sitting around anywhere… do you have a magical craft closet?

Can I ask a question from one Katie to another that is honestly not supposed to be snarky. How do you balance your sponsors? I know The Tile Shop is a huge sponsor of yours and sponsored your kitchen and you told us how much you loved them/the tile but now Home Depot is sponsoring your kitchen and we are know supposed to belive Home Depot is the be all, end all for tiles? I am honestly curious because I wonder from so many angles, do the stores know about each other? How do you decide who will sponsor you? (I know you do genuinely use/love both stores in this situation but more curious about the tiles themselves), are there not conflict of interests between sponsors? Which tiles do you prefer/customer service/cost? Could you ever do a post about this? Just bought a new home and Im assuming they sponsor you so other people will go off your word but.. which word do we chose?

I made a Winter Wreath in December that I’m still loving! http://www.wifeinprogressblog.com/diy-winter-wreath/
I love your green pinecone one…I might have to try it myself!

Well, I take it situation by situation…just like everybody does when they are redoing stuff. Some companies do have in their contracts a noncompete clause in which case, you can’t post about a competing product in a certain amount of time. But in general, think of it like commercials….advertisers pay for their spot. Of course they know about each other and we decide on our sponsors based on each individual situation. So in the case of the tiles….Home Depot didn’t carry a polished marble hex and we didn’t work with them at the time…so we were approached by Tile Shop, said yes…loved the experience…and then when it came to the bathroom, Home Depot pitched an entire bathroom makeover, we said yes and loved the experience. If I get something for free and I didn’t LOVE it…readers will never hear about it…that would be a waste of my time. Does that make sense?

Love the wreath, Katie! How is the fabric attached to your door?
Katie says
so who would you recommend to a first time tiler??
Katie says
I would recommend shopping by product! Pick out the tile first and then compare prices and convenience!

I was wondering that as well! 🙂
