Confession: I still have clothing from middle school in my closet. They don’t fit. They are out of style. And I still try to squeeze my muffin top in them like a butcher pushes ground pig innerds into an intestinal skin. yummy.
Another confession: I buy 90% of my clothing based on cost alone. Stacy London & Clinton Kelly would have a hay-day. And I would probably do the ugly cry in their 360 degree mirror room. Seriously though Stacy, some people can pull off acid-wash-cutoffs-circa-1992.
These clothing wishlists are a good idea for me. They make me think. Which I have realized is a priviledge after having a kid…thinking eats up time…precious time that you could be sleeping or brushing your teeth or doing very important tasks…like doing deep-knee squats in your 8th grade cords hoping that the fabric will forgive you for that pan of brownies that you devoured last night and allow your bum to stay inside the waistband. They make me think and they hold me accountable. They force me to actually analyze what I own (or don’t), what looks good on me, what is affordable and what is age-appropriate. Apparently it is important to not look like a street-walkin-teenager-from-the-80’s. So I’ve heard. Although I think it’s debatable.
(You can click on any of the photos below for the link to the source.)
I love the color and texture of this shawl collar sweater. It looks like it would be easy enough to throw on over a tank and a pair of jeans. And it doesn’t looks scratchy…which I find is the major flaw in most cozy sweaters.
This tunic is simple and oh-so-versatile. I love chambray colored tops and skirts…and this tunic is long enough to qualify as both in my book. That’s not to say I would wear it all by itself. No. That would definitely break a few rules in Stacy’s Don’t Dress Like A Hooker book.
Third confession of the day…I already have this Gap sweater. I bought it when it was on sale and we had a 45% coupon. So it ended up being less than $20. And the collar draws attention away from the afore-mentioned pastry that has taken up residence at my midsection.
Super cheap…just my style…and draws attention north of the jean spill-over-effect…yes, I definitely love this henley tee. I think I might order it in several colors.
Last fall I blogged about these jeans…and they are the bee’s knees for my post-pregnancy body. Now I need them in another color…because the darker version is the only thing that fits. So medium wash, here I come.
I had a Jo Totes camera bag in my wishlist for the last few months. I kept telling myself I would order it. Then it went out of stock. They sold out. I clicked, I saw, I cried. Right about the time when the heartbreak set in, I decided that if they came out with a white or gray tote I would buy immediately. Then I saw this beauty. I clicked, I screamed, I bought. Can’t wait to see how my camera, my wallet and Will’s diapers fit inside 🙂
I have been looking for the perfect lightweight striped tee to wear under sweaters and still be able to pull out in the warmer months…and I think this is it. It looks long enough to cover up my lovely lady lumps (the ones that are sugar-induced) and since it has three-quarter length sleeves, it would be versatile enough for every season.
Yes. I know. Don’t judge me. But dang if they aren’t more comfortable than one of those Playboy Bunnies in a rich man’s arms.
When I heard that Land’s End started a new spinoff called Canvas I was all like “oh this should be exciting for the 40 somethings” but once I checked it out, I was singing a different tune. I have no idea how this stuff lays or fits or if the cuts are all wonky or if the quality stinks…but consider me a fan. The price is right, the look is just my style….in short, I LOVE. So with all that said, if you wrk for this company and want to send me samples, I can put them through rigorous testing of DIY projects, blog writing, baby feeding, and television watching. Oh and I love this skirt.
Okay…so I’ve learned that my hoodies are slowly disappearing. And since my 9 month old STILL doesn’t sleep all night through and I like to throw on a lightweight hoodie at night as I sit in the hall and listen to him cry it out, I need more. This one is cute with the part henley part hoodie action.
I want a slouch hat. And I am slowly falling more and more deeply in love with anything knitted or crocheted. The texture gets me. This one has a cutie matootie that comes with it. Not the baby…the flower 🙂
This looks as comfortable to me as a tee shirt but put-together enough that the receptionist at Will’s pediatrician will stop judging me for wearing the same pajama-pant-slash-hoodie combo for every visit. It’s pretty bad when someone who is wearing scrubs looks more refined than you. I mean, my logic is sound though. Why dress up unless you are going somewhere fancy…like Walmart?
I might be the last person on the planet to hop on board the Jeggings train…but I have decided that I am a fan of jeans and a fan of leggings…therefore I must give their inbred love child a try. If I hate them, I promise to only wear em with a tunic and boots…that way 85% of them will be covered. The other 15% will be tight and unflattering…but that isn’t any different than 100% of my other pants.
Again Canvas is rocking my world with this look…casual enough to wear at home but not in a I-eat-old-cheetos-kinda way. Love the color and the fact that it doesn’t look like it could hug my semi-truck-spare-tire.
Lastly but definitely not leastly, we have this fleece jacket. I’ve always wanted to own something that is The North Face brand…sometimes I sneak into Jeremy’s closet and wear his North face lightweight jacket that he got as a gift. The stuff is dangexpensive…that’s one word for when things are beyond very expensive. it’s like ludicrious speed (name that movie for ten points)…except for pricing.
Okay…so that is my wardrobe wishlist for the winter (which by the way has hit the Peach State WAY hard! We actually have snow…and I ain’t talking about a light one inch dusting). Anything you recently added to your wishlist? Are you needing sweaters as much as I am? Or perhaps you tried jeggings and need to warn me of their evils? Maybe you just want that camera bag as much as I do? Any Canvas fans? Or Ugg wearers?
psst…here’s the past fall wardrobe wishlist 🙂
psst…when I was e-window-shopping, I couldn’t help but lust over some great spring finds…so later this week I’ll reveal my spring wardrobe wishlist…and just a word of warning, you may want flowers and pastels a smidge early this year!

I LOVE the Perfect Boot jeans from Gap! My twins are a year old now and these are the first jeans I’ve found that I think are mom-appropriate (mid-rise, baby!) and still have a sophisticated cut to the leg. Love, love them!
Watch out, though. All the washes fit just a little differently, so try them on in-store before purchasing. I had to go up a size (the horror!) in the worn dark wash. Love them, anyway!

You can totally rock the jegging! Mine just arrived from GAP and I love (also rocking the mom of an 8 month old look!) I highly recommend them (they call them legging jeans). I ordered one size bigger than normal ’cause I didn’t want them skin tight, but did want then to fit under knee boots. They are super soft and comfy… Go for it!
Jena @ Involving Color says
I LOVE my Gap perfect bootcut jeans. I still haven’t jumped on the jeggings train either. I try on the skinnies and the jeggings, and they don’t make me look skinny, so they’re a no go for me.

Wild Guess (ok not that wild)….but Space Balls. Points? points? Love the wish list, and I have to go check out that Lands End Canvas collection now! It’s so cute! At ludicrious speed…

Nice choices! I bought my first pair of jeggings in December. I thought I was too old (30) and too curvy (I don’t wear single digit sizes anymore) too wear them, but they look good on me! I feel confident in them and I wear them with knee high boots and a shirt that covers my butt. My rule is that if you’re older than a college student you need to keep your bottom covered up when you wear jeggings. They still remind me of 1991, though.
I love Land’s End and you can do easy returns at your Sears store if they havea Land’s End shop. Target and TJ Maxx are also good spots for flattering clothes at a discount price.
Every lady deserves some flattering and up-to-date clothing. I tend to invest in classic items for work and go for bargains on trendy stuff for weekends and date nights.

LOVE the shawl collar sweater and the camera tote – great finds! I’m a sweater addict but our budget this winter is super tight so I’m trying to make do with what I already have. I’ll just live vicariously through you! 🙂

May I suggest seeing if there are any North Face outlets around you? Last year I got a black hooded zip-up fleece jacket from one by me for $90, all the while Nordstrom’s was carrying the exact same one for $180, holla!

If it helps any, I just took the plunge and ordered from Land’s End Canvas. OMG-quality! I bought this sweater: http://canvas.landsend.com/pp/CardiganSweaterJacket~212442_-1.html?bcc=y&action=order_more&sku_0=::NAT&CM_MERCH=IDX_00017__0000002216&origin=index and I never want to take it off! The clothes I bought were well made, felt lovely soft and didn’t cost too terribly much. Got to love that!

I just ordered my first pair of jeggings, and they happen to be the Old Navy ones in the picture! They run short, so order long or tall, even if you are neither long or tall…
I love them! they are tight but stretchy so it works. I do feel awk having my bum exposed, so longer tops are my choice pairing. Enjoy!

Love the list! I personally am not a fan of jeggins…they just don’t fit my lady lumps in a flattering way. But I’m sure they’ll look wonderfully on you! 🙂 Love Uggs…a life saver this winter! And THANK YOU for the insite on Canvas…never heard of it until now. Loving it! Looking forward to the Spring wardrobe wish list 🙂

I highly recommend the Ann Taylor LOFT Modern Slim jeans! I’m a little hippy & thigh-y so trying on skinny jeans/jeggings was a bit discouraging at first, but I LOVE the ones I found from LOFT so much, I bought 2 pairs of them. They are perfect because they are made of a lightweight, stretch material so they give a little where you need them to- great transition jeans for those of us who aren’t used to wearing anything tighter than a bootcut! So cute & comfy, my poor bootcuts are feeling a little neglected!

As someone who lived through skinny jeans and leggings in the 80’s (I’m going to be thirty this month, shh, don’t tell anyone), I vowed to avoid both when they first came back into style. However, I did eventually succumb. I have to say, though, that my favorite of this reintroduction of both is the leggings jean. Because, really, if you’re going to wear skinny jeans, they might as well be super stretchy and comfortable, while fitting into your boots better. I just bought my first pair from Banana Republic at their after-Christmas sale, and I love them.
I’m a big fan of Land’s End for their quality and their prices. Did you know that all of their pants come unhemmed, and they will hem them to any inseam of your choosing at no extra charge? I was super excited to shop the Canvas collection. Finally, while we were visiting family out of state over the holidays, I had the opportunity to visit Land’s End Inlet store and see the collection in person. I think quality is great and I ended up buying a couple good layering tees for myself, and bunch of stuff for my boyfriend. We’re attending a couple destination weddings this spring, so it’s the perfect time to purchase marked down summer clothing. 🙂 I love a deal, too!

First of all, you crack me up. Second of all, I just drove through Georgia and I spent about 15 minutes trying to figure out who it was I knew that lived there. Then it dawned on me that it was you and I laughed out loud. I guess reading someone’s blog does feel a bit like getting to know her. I mean that in the least creepy way possible. Thirdly, Lands End Canvas line is off the chain. I can speak from experience. And their men’s clothes are great too. My boyfriend has ordered a whole host of pants and shirts and loves them.
Thanks for posting such entertaining posts and stay warm in the cold weather!

I’ve been doing a lot of shopping at Lands End Canvas and been VERY pleased. LL Bean also has a new “signature” line that is very similar.

i just tried on my first pair of jeggings this weekend during a much needed shopping trip. i didn’t care much for them. i’ve got a 4 year old and so i don’t get to work out much. i also don’t feel i particularly need to. (i’m 5′ 4″ and 100 lbs soaking wet) i didn’t like how they clung to everything. and i felt like they made my legs look lumpy and gross. i’ll stick to regular denim thank you very much!
also…do not spend that amount of money on uggs!!! go to http://www.gojane.com and get their imitation ugg boots. i just bought 2 of them and they are just fine. obviously the quality is totally noticeable, but if you’re getting a pair of boots for comfort and warmth that may only last a full year because they’ll get dirty or worn out, you might as well get the cheap ones. i don’t know, maybe it’s me. i live in massachusetts where it snows 9 out of the 12 months each year. so they definitely get a lot of use. if you want a step up in quality from this brand, go to target. either way, i can’t justify spending $140 on a pair of ugly boots just because they are comfortable and warm.
Jeans says
A word of warning – that wash of the perfect boot doesn’t actually have the double-button-wide waistband. The belt in the picture hides that (SNEAKY!). The waist is much higher and it’s a much less stretchy material. AND the whitewashed part is much more obvious than in the picture. Oy.
Lynn says
LOVE all your choices….save the Jeggings. I cant. I just cant go there. My feeling is once youve reached an age where you know youre bodies faults (and can admit them with great humor as you do) you will put them on and know if you can pull them off or not. I just feel like ME trying to get into them would be much like trying to get toothpaste back into the tube, once its squirted out.Post a pic when you get them….maybe you’ll inspire me to be brave! Of course…being 8 months pregnant right now, I dont think ANYONE wants to see me in jeggings 🙂
On a sort of side note has anyone seen the Pajama Jeans infomecial? Oh my gosh. I was up at like 4 am one night and I saw it. Starts out “do you love jeans???…do you love pajamas???”….you get the idea. Made me laugh through the whole thing….anyone want to fess up to owning THOSE? 🙂
Michele says
Love the Canvas collection! I have that skirt in 2 colors (grey and black) and it is awesome.
Alima says
I swore I would never wear jeggings. I couldnt imagine how they could be flattering, but I do love leggings (especially ones made by HUE). And one day I was in Belk and they had HUE jeggings on sale for $21.50. I couldn’t resist. I bought 2 pairs and now I hardly wear anything else. They are super comfortable, very flattering and they slip into boots so nicely and never bunch up around the knees like regular jeans do.
I am also in love with the Canvas look, but haven’t ordered anything yet so I can’t vouch for quality or fit. You’ll have to keep us posted if you order anything! I would love to know!
P.S. I have a 15 month old who still doesn’t sleep through the night, so you’re not alone 😉

Love that – and it’s on sale!

Yeah, I just can’t try the jeggings either. However, after this baby is born I WILL treat myself to a pair of the Gap jeans. And – you MUST get the North Face Jacket, it’s the coziest thing ever. I used the excuse that the new baby will love to snuggle it. I’m sure she will, our 3 year old sure does!

PS – I’m so ready for spring, can’t wait to see that list!

BUY THAT AE SWEATER!
I own it in every color and it is magical. The only thing I’ll say, is if you’re super long-torsoed, it may sit a little strange. I found it to be shorter than what I expected – with jeans, it sits right at the waistband. However, it is by and large the most comfy, cozy, not-itchy sweater in the world and I love it.

I also love the Canvas clothes!!! Soooo cute. Good for Lands’ End, coming out with a modern look.
Love all your choices too
PS….my one word of advice? Forget the cry it out routine. Just let Will sleep with you or right next to you and everybody gets lots more sleep 🙂
Babies don’t understand why you come to them when they cry during the day, but not at night.
It won’t last, I promise. They “WILL” (lol) sleep all night eventually! (from a mom who has done this 3 times)
Katie says
Yeah…we did co-sleep…and then we even up-sized the bed to a king for more room….but now? it’s been 9 months and Will wakes up multiple times a night (waking up Jeremy who REALLY needs to sleep because he has to work and gets sick if he doesn’t get enough rest)…so we decided that the best thing for our family would be to stop co-sleeping. He still wakes up three times a night…so it definitely is getting better…but he wants me to nurse him every time…which just isn’t workin out for the girls. Hence the crying.

Great post! I’m trying to dress nicer this year so I really like your suggestions. I have a similar style to yours.
My two cents: DON’T BUY THE OLD NAVY DENIM LEGGINGS. They are horrible quality! I tried some on and they looked terrible! I even went 3 sizes above my normal ON jean size and they still looked bad. The fabric is really thin so your underwear/lovely lady lumps show no matter how much you size up. And all of the sizes I tried were too tight. I guess I could have tried 4 sizes above my normal size but I started to get depressed in that dressing room.
My suggestion: a.n.a. denim leggings from J.C. Penny. http://www2.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?GrpTyp=SIZ&ItemID=1af2c31A&DeptID=70656&CatID=71641&SO=0&SelDim=8~663&x5view=1&Ne=29+3+663+593+1011+5+1031+586+18+904+833+949&shopperType=G&N=4294953666+139&Nao=0&PSO=0&CmCatId=70656|71641&FromBanners=Y
I’ve owned these for over a year and I LOVE them. They’re thicker, like jeans, and soft and sooooo comfortable (like PJ pants!! No joke!!). They honest-to-goodness look like real skinny jeans when they’re on (the ON ones look like leggings for sure). This means I can wear shorter-than-tunic-length shirts with them and it doesn’t look like I’m breaking every style rule in the book (No Leggings As Pants Ever!). The ON ones look obscene with any shirt shorter than a tunic.
Anyway, I’ve worn these jeans (I have a hard time calling them leggings when they feel so much like jeans) for multiple days without washing them and they never lose their fit (you know how some jeans get super loose after a day of wearing them? These never do). They haven’t faded at all either.
I really need to buy more of the a.n.a. leggings just in case they discontinue them, but my only pair holds up so well that I don’t really need to. I would like to buy another pair in short/petite though. I’m 5’4″ and the regulars are a bit too long for me.
Anyway give them a try! I love mine!

I’ve ordered 2 or 3 times from Land’s End Canvas. I’ve been really happy about the quality. One thing to note is that their clothes tend to be cut a little on the bigger side. So you might need to size down, especially for tops. They are always running good promos for an extra 20-30% off their already awesome sale prices. They will also send you a handwritten note to thank you for your purchase.

Totally agree. I despise UGGs. they are ugly and very impracticle for snow/rain. If you are going to spend that kind of money on boots they should be waterproof. IMO
I also can’t stand when ‘kids’ wear Uggs in June with shorts.

Oh girl, I hear you! I have about 10 post-baby lbs. to lose, and ALL of them are in my lower tummy and bum. It’s like the weight drained out of my boobs and landed on my butt. Anyway…I am also a clothes hoarder and have stuff from the late nineties. But this weekend I packed up loads of it – over 100 items – and shoved it all in the garage (which is halfway to Goodwill). Anything that was faded, that I wore in college (or earlier!), and that I didn’t feel great in went into the bags. When I added it all up I couldn’t believe it!
Oh, I that portrait collar top from LOFT in red – it’s great. I’m also a fan of skinny jeans with a long cardi to cover the aforementioned bigger booty. Happy shopping! (from a fellow WNTW fan).

Great casual picks! Just updated my own winter wardrobe so I’m feeling fresh! I will be the first to say that Ugg boots are hideous, but the last to judge you….they are worth every single penny and every single judgmental stare! Ok so I read some of your comments and I was shocked to read that somebody thought 30 was too old for jeggins. are you kidding me? And what is the deal with mom jeans?
So you have kids.. big whup. So does Hedi Klum and she doesn’t wear Mom jeans.
You wear them Jeggins and Hip jeans…that is if you stomach isn’t hanging over the top of them. 🙂 Just remember you may be a mom but you are still a hot mom so work it girl.
Oh yeah and Uggs make you look like you don’t know how to walk. Get some boots with a little heel at least that makes your legs look longer and it makes your hips sway when you walk. sexy!!

I have to say…
I also HATED Uggs for the longest time until someone bought them as a gift for me. Three years later mine are still in great shape. I live in Indiana where they do get the wear in the snow. I work on campus so I trudge through salt and snow covered sidewalks frequently.
If you use the cleaning and protection kit they will really stand up for many seasons. They are extremely well made and the lining is not harsh on your feet and allows them to breathe.
I now have another pair and absolutely love them in the winter.
Just wanted to put my opinion in. I know everyone is entitled to their own and I see yours completely.
What really bothers me is that we have people around here who absolutely refuse to wear them because they are for “rich little college girls”.
Have a great day!

I tried the crying it out thing to and I gave up on it pretty quick. It’s not the worth the agony it puts you both through in my opinion. My son magically started sleeping through the night at a year old. (I know that seems like a long time away right now, but trust me–it’s not!) It’s like something just clicked with him and he would go right to sleep and stay asleep with no problems. So if you decide that crying it out isn’t what you want to do, try to remember that it won’t be this way forever. He will get it!

Get the Uggs. Now. You won’t regret it. You will just wish you could wear them to bed (if you’re the socks and night type, that is). Apparently my subconcious told the hubs that I wanted these for Christmas last year and adament that I wouldn’t wear boots with such a bad rep and such a hefty price tag — the warm, fuzzy sheepskin won me over. They are the best thing, as long as you don’t wear them with mini skirts. Just be sure to buy the waterproof spray!

Okay, I totally got that jo Totes bag from my husband for Christmas and I LOVE it! Plenty of room for my DSLR and purse stuff too. PLUS it has the cutest star print lining! do it.

You will LOVE the Old Navy Jeggings! I never thought I could rock them, but now I totally live in mine. So much that I bought them in regular and black. My only disappointment is the length- I am 5’2″ and normally cannot wear regular length. However, I bought short and now they are a wee bit short. I wear them with boots so you really can’t tell. Just an FYI. 🙂
Thanks for all of the sweater suggestions!
Chrissy says
I’ve recently invested in jeggings and they’re the best! Super comfy and they look great with tall boots! I wear tunics, mid-thigh length shirts with them. I’m sorry, I just can’t wear a regular length t-shirt with them! I feel naked… Get them!

Ok Katie… Here’s my confession… I caved and bought new pants this weekend to fit my post-pregnancy body (which I thought would be a distant memory by now so I had refused to buy new clothes!!) My little girl is 6 months old, so you and I seem to be in the same boat! However… Here’s where my secret gets better. I shopped at the clothes section of the local thrift store for the first time (i was in there donating and admiring the furniture.) how about creme, lined Banana Republic work trousers for $4.90? With the tag still on!! Or those same gap jeans you have here for 5.90? And my “new” Ann Taylor jeans… 6.90. Yep. And I felt like a million dollars going into work today.

Katie-
I laughed out loud when I started reading your post today-I thought your description of trying on old clothing was very comical!
and I love the list. You have great style, Katie Bower!
I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and here (where it just dumped 2 feet of snow on us over 2 days) we love, love, love our Uggs! I have a pair that have lasted me 2 winters now and I wear them everyday.
They will definitely keep your tootsies warm 😉
I have also jumped on the jeggings/leggings train and I heart them. I wear them with longer shirts or with dresses or skirts and I agree with Chrissy they look great with tall boots (Uggs too). They have become a staple in my wardrobe.

Who knew Land’s End had such cute stuff? I think I am going to go order their catalog now!
Heather says
Add the whole list to my cart, please!!! Love your style! Well, except maybe the jeggings. After 2 babies, these hips should NEVER been seen in leggings. Seriously, it’d be a crime.
Ok, so can I tell you I’m somewhat relieved to hear Will’s not sleeping through? I know YOU’RE not relieved, but after hearing about Clara on YHL sleeping 12 hours a night, I was going a little bonkers! My 8-month-old is not sleeping either, but my son did at 6 months. Guess I was spoiled! My husband gets super grouchy w/o a good night’s sleep, and if we let her cry it out, she wakes up my son! Can’t have grumpy husband AND grumpy toddler. No thank you. Anyway, I’ll be interested to see what works with your little man!

I have that same Jo Totes bag in black. I love it but it is a big bag. The pockets and flexibility are great.
Also, I always hated the Uggs until got a pair for Christmas last month. They are a knock off version from Sams Club but they are real shearling. They are so soft and cozy. I wear them all the time. I think Costco also carries a nicely made version of Uggs.
What lens do use most often? I recently bought a 17-50 2.8 VC from Tamron and am trying to decide if I love it enough to keep it. It is so much heavier than the 18-55 kit lens I was using. I also have the 50mm 1.8 and that little lens is awesome.

Ooooh, I love Canvas. I loved them when they first launched, but had no sale section to their website. Boo. Then I had a baby, forgot all about it, checked KatieB’s blog, and WOW! I’m loving it all!!!
I *may or may not* have just spent $60, including a cute-mom one piece swimsuit (because a two piece is so not happening this summer… or ever again), some t-shirts, AND that skirt!!! Extra 20% off sale items until tomorrow…………………
Amy says
Love your selections on the list. Wear what you want and what you feel amazing and/or comfy in! My nieces have the real Uggs and they love, love, love them! I thought uggghhh and I’m too old for Uggs. So, I bought some fuggs (fake uggs) last year from Costco and I love them. It rains a lot here (Seattle) but they have held up. Wear them without socks around the house and they feel like a cozy cloud! They are right up there with bacon, I promise.

As a long time fan of Lands’ End, which, yes, does make me over 40, I’m still trying to figure out your comment about Lands’ End Canvas and making the 40-somethings happy.
Kate says
This post made me laugh so much! Thank you! But… you shouldn’t be so darn hard on yourself! Anyway… Ann taylor Loft has a bunch of their sweaters for $15 right now, you should take a look!
Katie says
Tammy – it was just a light-hearted comment from a 29 almost 30 year old who apparently thinks she is still 21. In my opinion, Lands End’s main focus group for marketing is the late 30’s early 40’s in age… just like Abercrombie is geared toward college kids…it’s not to say that they aren’t great quality clothing…it’s just a joke explaining how excited I was that they started a line that looks developed for my age group.

I use the 50mm most often…it just happens to be the lens that stays on there…and I get too lazy or am in too much of a rush to change it 🙂

I just got my daughter a pair of UGG like boots. They are Koolaburra from Australia. Sheepskin lined and so comfy she never wants to take them off. They are about the same price as UGG normally, but we found them at Marshall’s for $70. I was just sad that they didn’t have them in my size. BTW…I think UGGs are cute. I would buy them for looks alone. I know I am probably the only one here that feels that way, but…

Can’t wait to see your review of the Jo Tote! That’s the one that’s on my wish list too. Please do a post with ‘real life’ pictures 🙂
Nicole says
You had me at deep knee squats! 🙂
Serioulsy though, I LOVE your clothing wish lists. So smart. I vowed to do it when you made your fall list but didn’t follow through. Need to do it this time!

Katie — we found that when we started giving our son a snack right before bedtime (something substantial, like oatmeal), he stopped waking up in the night.

I was in AE last night and saw your sweater on sale for $24.95 with an additional 30% off. I considered buying it myself but wasn’t in a buying mood for some reason. I like your style!
Katie says
yeah…tried that.

Sheena says
Oh Katie! Why do you do this to me?! I want almost everything on here! I think you and I have similar style/tastes.
The Victoria’s Secret shirt…. let me just say a few words…. Everytime I get the catalog I flip through and with a big black or pink sharpie I circle everything I want. Right down to the colors I want it in. And when it’s all said and done, guess what? 99% of the things I want are worn by the same model. I think it’s because in my mind I think she is me….. Okay – to be fair…. she is me before I had health issues and gained weight. The same model that you have wearing the henley shirt. i don’t know why but I adore her and swear that I used to look just like that. Then I look in the mirror and realize that is no more. Anyway – I love all the clothes! Can you promise to do one for Spring and Summer? Please? What if you did a new one every month? 😉

I can’t wait for your spring /summer list! I’ve lost like 60 pounds and have no clothes for spring and summer. I’m rebuilding my whole wardrobe and love your style so thanks for doing all the work for me! lol.
Stephanie@Geezees says
I actually love all of your winter picks, we have the same kinda style.
Amelia says
Katie,
I love the idea of a clothing wish list! I am totally going to draw one up for myself…and steal about half of it from your list! I looooove that bag.
However, I must strongly suggest that you ditch your abercrombie desire…yesterday. Or probably about 15 years ago or however many years it has been since you were 13. abercrombie is absolutely positively only for middle schoolers and miss skinny minnie you would probably need an XXXL just to get the thing to cover your belly button. And Abercrombie and Fitch ain’t much better. You could probably knock one X off of that size. PLUS… no matter how cute, thier quality is worse than forever 21. Seams will come out with one wash! Ditch ’em. They are bad news bears.

You HAVE to let us {OK, me!} know how you like your new tote bag after it arrives! I’ve been wanting to buy the EXACT tote in gray for my new canon, but can’t decide if I should go with fashion or function. Please oh please let me know what you think!

Gracias! 🙂
Natalie says
Oh, and in response to Amelia’s post…FALSE!
I worked at A&F one summer and I still love their clothes. Not everything they sell is my style anymore {I’m a J.Crew girl now…hello Philadelphia Premium Outlets!} but some of it is still super cute.
And they actually have some great sales; you just have to keep your eyes peeled for them and stick to the back of the store.
Also, absolutely NONE of my Abercrombie clothes have torn at the seams or faded, which is more than I can say for stuff I’ve bought at American Eagle and Old Navy {for the same price!}…oh, and I’ve had some of them for 5 years or more. So there :p

Katie –
My non-sleeping baby is now a 12-year-old who STILL gets up at least once every night. Luckily, she is now able to put herself back to bed (and in fact, wandered into our room last night, kissed me, walked around the bed, kissed her dada, and then wandered back to her own room and put herself back to bed). Some kids are just not sleepers, for whatever reason. I’m not saying Will falls into this category; I just wish I had known this fact before I a) tried everything under the sun and b) blamed myself. To get her to sleep at bedtime, a warm bath 1-1.5 hours before bed is best. Something about the rise and then fall in body temperature makes you more sleepy.
But on to the subject at hand – clothes! I have a best friend who always looks years younger than the rest of us 40-somethings. Her secret: Down East Basics (www.downeastbasics.com) – and for those of us who love a bargain like Katie Bower loves bacon, the prices are fabulous.
Katie says
I’ll make sure to remember to let you guys know!

Nat – I worked at A&F one winter! Small world! And I’ve seen it both ways…some sweaters do shrink (could be washer-error) and I’ve also had jeans that are still in great shape (cough10yearslatercough).

Lori – their accessories are fab! Thanks for the link!
And thanks for the encouragement about my little waker-upper 🙂 I think the scientist in me likes experimenting with different methods to get him to sleep. He probably is sick of it…but you can’t rush science 🙂

I love all your picks! I need to do some wardrobe refreshing myself…
For what it’s worth, I’ve bought a number of things from the Lands End Canvas line and have mostly positive reviews. One or two items fit a little strangely, but they were easy enough to return. Quality is pretty good too, especially since the price is low. The main Lands End line is worth an occasional look too — they do have some items that don’t scream “I’m middle aged.” 🙂
Lori in OR says
The prices on the accessories had my jaw hanging open – scarves, belts, jewelry… for an average price of $10? I’ll take one of each, thank you.
The scientist in *me* thinks that Will may be doing some experimenting of his own…
Katie says
Yeah…I’m totally a guinnea pig for that kid 🙂

I love your winter wishlist. I could easily adapt all of these items into my wardrobe and be a happy camper.
Please please please share about your new camera bag. Since seeing you mention it here, I’ve been lusting after one but I’d love to hear more details about it.
In college, every kid had a North Face fleece except me. So as soon as I got a big girl job, I bought a $100 fleece and it is awesome! Even tho it isn’t the beloved Denali, it’s still very warm, especially with layers underneath. Even though it’s pricey, the quality is great.
Beanies & berets! Recently I’ve become a beanie fan, since realizing how warm they keep me. If you are looking for a good quality beanie, Coal Headwear and Neff Headwear make excellent beanies. They’re warm and good quality, so you’ll have them for several seasons.

I love your style Katie! And the humor that does along with it! 🙂 I’m in Idaho and Uggs are definitely a staple for any lady’s wardrobe! You can’t beat the warmth and comfort and for some reason they just luck cute! And cute is with the skinny jeans, which I am still too chicken to pull off. Good luck with the jeggings adventure!
