I posted a photo of my little dining room tree forest on Instagram before the holidays. (I’m @bowerpowerblog if you wanna follow me)
The display is still up and I think I might leave it there until after January. It doesn’t scream “Christmas” to me as much as it screams “winter!”…which surprisingly is not over. I confess it’s hard for me to live in the present sometimes…especially when I am reading other blogs and they have seemingly moved on already to Spring and Summer. I think…oh no, I am behind! I am not trendy! I am missing the boat!
And then I remember that I am pretty much always behind…I don’t care to be trendy and dude…who wants to be on a boat anyway? I wanna lounge on the beach with my toes in the sand with my kids playing around me in the sunset. There is possibly a fruity frozen mommy-drink involved. And a half dressed Jeremy frolicking in front of me.
(My dreams are extensive.)
And this is why living in the present is important…because otherwise I would miss out on a prancing boyfriend. And why you should never compare your anything to someone else’s something.
Let this winter tablescape be your reminder of those facts, Katie.
We basically had this exact same table setting for Christmas dinner…except with silverware. We did not eat with our hands. We aren’t that barbaric…not on Christmas anyway.
Speaking of the beach, this is that tablecloth that I picked up when we went on vacation with the Petersiks this past summer. The only thing that could have made the setting better was a bit of smaller pattern infusion…like these West Elm napkins that I poorly photoshopped into the look. I need to go ahead and get me some of those. Note to self.
And now for a bunch of photos…because I am going back to that mental visual of Jeremy.
p.s. it should be noted that my boyfriend has never in his life frolicked. I am working on convincing him that he should 🙂

It’s so pretty Katie! And I’m all for missing the boat, toes in the sand, frolicking, etc. the boat is boring and that “I’m on a boat” song is so 4 years ago!
Angela says
Dear Katie… I am not barbaric either, and I eat with my hands, coz I am Indian, and it is my tradition to eat thus. And BTW …you will have missed the boat anyways, if you havent eaten with your fingers, go for it sometimes. You know some wise person once said.. eating with cutlery is like making ….e thru an interpreter!
No offence taken at your rather immature assumption, so dont think I am lashing. I am just wondering whether homeschooling and such makes you loose out on a little bit of social sensitivity. Love your blog most times 🙂
Angela says
Hey Katie.. you can choose to dunk my comment in trash.. but if you choose to publish.. cud you edit my name to say Angela instead of my email id. that was an error.

Good for you leaving some winter decorations up! Everything looks so bare and depressing after the Christmas stuff comes down that I feel some should be repurposed as winter decorations! Like white lights. (I’m in Chicago and once again trekking to work in negative temps; grimy snow does not help the depressing-ness of January.)
Love your trees and table!

I still have my snowman tree up, so I’m right there on the beach with you! In all honesty, I’d keep all my Christmas decor up until February if it weren’t for the fact that I like to decorate for Valentine’s Day. I have three boys, so I totally jump at the chance to add some pink to the house!

I’m a gold digger! haha I’ve always wanted one of those poofs but haven’t been able to afford one yet. I would love a cream or white one to brighten up my decor. As always I love your blog!!

Love those napkins from West Elm! I just noticed they were in the clearance section at my West Elm this past weekend…you better go grab them quick!

It is so pretty!
I love keeping out some of my less Christmas stuff, I mean it is still winter so I see no problem in this! 🙂
Alli says
Looks great! I kinda love tree decor ALL year round 🙂
Carly says
Love it! I always leave out my “snowy” decorations after packing up the Christmas stuff. I love those white feather trees. Heck, our white Christmas lights our still up and lit on the porch. They are just too pretty to take down!
Alisha says
I’m a gold digger! and I will always choose a yellow anything, especially a pouf!
Shay says
I’M A GOLD DIGGER! I would love to win a white or cream pouf !
Katie, I love reading your blog and keeping up with your busy life. Much love to you and your family!
Courtney says
That is a gorgeous table setting!! You could invite me over for any meal and I’d take you up on it!
Jen J says
I’m jealous of all your trees. I was eyeing some trees at Hobby Lobby after Christmas but I just don’t know where I would store them. I wish I had more storage in my house so I could have pretty table decorations for each season. And I’m with you in being stuck in the winter mindset still. It’s hard to get out of that mindset when it is currently 4 degrees. 🙂

I’m a gold digger! Going for the Gold!
Suganya says
Hey! We Indians like to eat with our hands you know… and aren’t necessarily barbaric. 🙂 Just wanted to point that out.. Still love you though. 🙂

So pretty! In the last picture, I spy a gorgeous mirror…where is it from??

I’m a gold digger! So, yes, gold would be my pouf of choice 😉

You speak the truth oh wise Katie! I still have the kids drawings of Christmas trees and snowmen on the mantel and a string of Christmas lights. It’s sub zero here in MN and will be for quite some time. To be planning for spring feels masochistic.
But does Jeremy footle? It’s my favorite synonym for frolic/prance/play. It comes from Hairy Maclary and Zachary Quack by Lynley Dodd. Do you know it? Here it is being read aloud: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KVRdGCQE_A
Hope you have a good living-in-the-present kind of day.

Pottery Barn outlet. It was a find that I sat on for a while then we hung it right in November (you can see it in Weston’s birthday party photos).

I love your blog! You could literally write about anything and i would still love it. You are so funny and I love that you aren’t afraid to be real. I have been so happy to read a post from you every day this week!

“I’m a gold digger”. It would be a tough choice between the white, silver and turquoise.
Sherri says
I don’t blame you for enjoying the winter decor. I live in Orlando, but I still have sparkle going on. I have a small ” Valentine’s ” tree. White with red bulbs, and red and white lights, and now red hearts. I have two large emerald green vases that have had white lights in them since Christmas that may stay that way indefinitely. I have a Pottery Barn clear glass chunky pedestal vase that I threw multi- colored lights in. A Threshhold silver open weave cylinder candle holder that I put lights in. And the list goes on… I changed most of it up since Christmas so that it was a new look, but it makes me happy. Sometimes it’s the little things we do that brighten our day. The best part is that I worked with what I had!
Michelle | Birds of Berwick says
I’m with you, Katie. Although my Christmas decor is down, I’ve still got my winter decor out – snowmen, frosty trees and my candles still in the windows. It’s hard to jump on the “Spring” train when it’s -10 with the windchill!
Tanya says
I’m a gold digger! Would love an orange pouf 🙂
Christine Williams says
Like the social sensitivity you have towards home schooling? Most people use utensils. In history barbarians did not. She was only talking about barbarians. Not you.
Karyl says
I AM a gold digger and am absolutely digging that orange pouf! Thanks for sharing this Store- and a 10% discount-so many fun things!

Sitting here as crazy loud construction is going on in the office next to mine and their horrendous music is BLASTING and I’m about ready to crawl in the corner it’s so distracting……but anyway. Ahem…..I absolutely love those ball, stick, glitter thingies (I believe that’s the very scientifically technical term). Where did you get them?
Alyssa M says
Hi Katie! I’m a new reader to your blog, so this may be a question that you’ve already answered – sorry if it is. Where did you get those amazing “balls on a a stick” (for lack of a less suggestive term)?? Love the place settings and your little forest 🙂
Katie says
Lowes! They were 50% off after Christmas 🙂

Love the trees. I have 6 large mercury glass trees that I keep on my bookshelf all year round because they make me happy and they are too big and fragile to put away. Do what makes you hally
Kristin M says
Hey Katie! Where did you get the gold plate chargers? I have been looking for gold ones forever that are just plain simple ones. Very pretty table, by the way. And sooo love those west elm napkins. Total eye candy.
Katie says
Walmart. They sell red, green, gold and silver ($1 each) before Christmas each year 🙂
