How was it? Your Valentines Day? Was it full of romance and cherished moments? Was it lovely and craft filled? Was it a celebration of your singleness?
Ours was what I officially think of as our first family valentines day. Jer made me breakfast in bed and then Will (and Daddy?) surprised me with a homemade valentine. And since he had to scaddoodle to work, Will and I crafted him this pretty card. Will traced the big pink and red hearts from the cardboard back I made. He loves to trace 🙂 And then he colored the words and created the ‘flowers’ and with some help, glued them onto the card.
Then Will and I baked cupcakes. The kid is obsessed with cooking. If he even thinks you are gonna cook something, he comes running while yelling COOK HELP COOK HELP! There have been many disappointed moments when he realizes I am just unloading the dishwasher. Poor little Emeril.
I decorated them while he napped. It was easier that way.
After Jer got done with work and Will woke, we readied ourselves for a night out on the town…err…in the shopping center near Kroger. We had sushi and watched our food get hibachied. It was like dinner and a show. Will is definitely a fan of fried rice.
And then after the little guy went to bed, we watched What’s Your Number. Which, might I add is not as funny as House Bunny. I swear that I use that line “Eyes are the nipples of your face” pretty much weekly. This movie just had too many f-bombs for my taste. I mean, I can totally see the humor in an appropriately timed cuss word…but seriously Hollywood writers…wittyness goes a long way. more of that please.
I also made some thread and heart garland for our window…it is so cheerful it might just stay up the whole month of February.
Oh and Jer did get me a giant bag of peanut m&m’s and wrote me a note that had me cry one sentence in. stupid love of my life ruined my mascara 🙂
So what did you do? Any love notes? homemade valentines? sushi and f-bombs? I’d love to hear all about it (pun intended).

Sounds like a wonderful Valentine’s Day! On a random note, I thought I was the only one who liked the House Bunny (I watch it more often than I should admit to).

Sounds like you had a really sweet valentine’s day! I had to work a long day (8am-9pm), but when I got home my husband had a homemade dinner waiting for me! Unexpected goodies are the best 🙂

Lovin’ the new header! & Will looks adorable as usual.

what a great day for you all! hearts, baking, and sushi 🙂
ours was quite out of the ordinary…our offer was accepted for (what will be) our first home!!! thus making it quite memorable…even if we were nervous wrecks all day waiting for the owners to make a decision!
I’ll be using your blog for TONS of DIY home inspiration, Katie!

I couldn’t agree with you more about the cussing in movies. I too am not against an occasional and suitably placed swear word. But movies now a days have just way too many. That’s why I watch a lot of old movies. 🙂
Happy Valentine’s Day!

Ha! I watched Whats Your Number too! My husband was out of town for work so I watched it by myself. He’s not a fan of chick flicks. I agree with you though….too many f bombs. And for me…too much nudity.
Your cupcakes look so cute! Wish I had talent like that.

I have to say I loved What’s Your Number, but that might be because there is so much Chris Evans involved (yum!).

I pretty much woke up yesterday thinking the day was gonna suck. I gave my b/f the boot a couple weeks ago (don’t worry, I’m totally cool with this – he was a %@!$), so I figured I was going to reside in ‘single pouty-land’ all day. When I got home, my sis and her hubby had surprised me with roses in the kitchen with a card “a Valentine from the Dog.” Really??!! Yah – I adopted a fur-kid about 3 weeks ago, so they got me flowers from her. Then, they let me crash their dinner – don’t worry, with a 7-year old in the house, there wasn’t a lot of romance. 😉 I also got a cute doggie charm for my bead bracelet from the niece-munchkin.
All in all, not a bad day in the end. 🙂

I spent V-Day with my little man and made him his favorite meal! He loved it and was so excited. Didn’t watch any movies yesterday but hoping to see “The Vow” this weekend. 🙂

We haven’t actually celebrated Valentine’s Day yet. We close on our house today, so we are celebrating that and Valentine’s Day tonight. http://www.attemptsatdomestication.com/today-is-the-day/

I LOVE love letters! I went to write a blog post yesterday and noticed that there was one already written. Love letters are better than any gift, in my opinion! 🙂

We’re not much into big grand Valentine’s Day gestures. I went out with a friend on Saturday night and when I came home, hubby had bought me some flowers and put them in a vase in our room. We had to move them into the hallway; our allergies started kicking in big time! On Sunday we went to church and renewed our vows. Little did we know it was World Marriage Day! (I’d have worn my gown!) Then we went out for breakfast with my mom. On Monday morning, en route to work, I checked the flowers – they smelled great, and didn’t need water. When we got home Monday night the vase was bone dry so I picked it up to carry it into the kitchen. And the bottom of the vase had cracked right off! The water had seeped out all over the top of the entertainment unit; we now have some awesome water rings and lovely blisters popped up on the particle board (it was a cheap 25-year-old piece’o’junk unit hubby bought after his divorce all those many years ago (pre-me). He jinxed us by saying JUST THIS PAST SUNDAY that when we get a new TV we’ll sell this unit on Craigslist. There’s no selling it now! Yesterday we exchanged lovely cards in the morning, went to work, and ate at Five Guys for dinner – no cooking! Now THAT’S romantic!!!

Adorable! We made some “xo” cupcakes…mmm! Lots of other cute kiddo V-day ideas: http://vtmamateurs.com/2012/02/14/for-your-littlest-valentine/

So cute! I love to hear about how Will loves helping out in the kitchen, and his card to his Daddy is adorbs.
We sort of celebrated V-Day on Monday–went out to eat then to see Mike Birbiglia (one of my favorite comedians). Yesterday, I made my husband run errands with me, and then I made him help me clean. How romantic! Ha, but that’s only because we are having friends over tonight, and his parents are coming this weekend for his Birthday 🙂 I did make him some cut-out cookies in the shape of hearts and XOXOs, so that counts for something, right?

So sweet! That is exactly how I envisioned our first real family Valentine’s Day. Although my husband and I aren’t really big on the holiday, I wanted to make it special for our 2 year old son. Instead, I was sick as a dog and stayed on the couch all day and night. Not even a card for my little man. Epic Valentine’s Day Fail.
Nicole says
Aww that card is so sweet! We went out to dinner and saw The Vow afterwards (Channing Tatum- WOW). We usually do just cute cards, a little candy and a small gift (book, movie,etc..) And I agree on Whats Your Number, not too great. Here lately between the swearing and boob shots, in just about every movie, I am just not impressed with movies here lately. Have you seen Water for Elephants yet? It is really good! More of a drama though.
Maria says
Nothing special here- but we did go our for sushi on Friday (before getting some great news!) and will, hopefully, catch dinner + a movie on Friday. Oh, B did write a super cute love letter to his dad and posted it on MY blog! That’s pretty much the best gift he got.
And now I have to watch House Bunny because that quote is Awesome! No, I am not a 13 year-old boy.

HOUSE BUNNY IS THE BEST!
Seriously – unappreciated film, that.

I love how many people had sushi for Valentine’s Day dinner! My husband and I don’t really do anything for V-Day (our anniversary is in March so we figure that’s close enough), but this year we had our 15 day old twin girls! So my hubby napped on the couch with one baby while I cuddled the other and watched Buffy on Netflix Instant. I’m hoping my girls will be just as geeky/nerdy as their momma!
Carolyn @ The Mobile-Homemaker says
Well,
On and off throughout the day I watched FB get inundated with ‘Roses My Husband Bought’ photos.
Then, my hubby and I shared a romantic Zaxby’s salad for lunch. I could have a plate of just fried onions, if I’m honest.
When he got home for the night we reorganized our library, finding books that we forgot we had but that definitely add to the love in the air… like the diary of a 10 century Japanese concubine? (Ryan was weirdly excited about that one)
Or the 1910 Christmas Carol book I bought at an estate sale owned by a girl in Missouri. In the back she wrote in pen “Boys that I’ve gone with since 1913-1918” and listed them in alphabetical order. 44 in total. Day-am Gina.
Then we finished off the night with Chocolate Cheerios and a movie.
I was happy.

haha..you go Gina 🙂
Sounds like fun Carolyn!

Hubs and I had a day date (quick, name that Anna Faris movie). Mongolian grill then a movie. We also had to stop at Wal-Mart (which makes me sad) to pick up a picture, frame and chalk. I remembered the picture and replaced the frame and chalk with beer and a gas can. See, hubs was in the car waiting for me when the car ran out of gas…silly broken gas gauge. Then we got to take a romantic walk across a parking lot to the nearest gas station. We got back to the car with a full (badly designed) gas can and were only able to put half a gallon in the car. Then we got home and ate our heart shaped pizza for dinner and chilled on the couch. Then this morning I went back to town and got a frame and chalk. Ahhh, memories 🙂
Katie says
Oh Five Guys is so good. I seriously love me a giant greasy burger 🙂

What a sweet Valentine’s! Ours was very low-key, but it was nice to spend time with each other. 🙂
susan says
It was our second one together ♥♥
I made shrimp scampi, asparagus, rolls and a Pavlova with cherries.
Pacific Rim Reisling was an added bonus.
Hubby and I were once both widows, so every day-not just V-day-is special to us, but we like that there is a special day for saying “I love you and life and etc…”
We do cards and small gifts-we limit it to 50 bucks so it doesn’t get blown out of proportion ( it’s not a birthday or an anniversary). I got chocolate “kisses” from the dog 😛
Sounds like you guys had a blast. V-day, and really all holidays, should be whatever works for you and yours 🙂

Happy belated Valentine’s Day & Birthday Katie Bug! Guess whose the BIG 4-0 today?? Yes..me! Me & my love bucket had lunch at Red Lobster. That night our fam had hamburgers, fries, & made sundaes. Your lil man is growing so fast. He’s a heart breaker already! We still need to keep the tradition going with our bday lunches!! Your hairdo looks gorgeous! Tell Jer hello for me.
Miss you!

Sounds like you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day! I had plans (photography class) so we had a heart shaped pizza for dinner and then my sweet hubby surprised me with a little cheese plate set-up just like when we were in Paris. And a pretty bouquet of flowers. 🙂

LOVE the homemade Valentine 🙂 so sweet!

This was our first Valentine’s as a married couple 🙂 but the hubs found the present I got him last weekend, so there went my suprise. I picked him up from work and he had Ferrero rocher chocolates and a sweet card that made me cry, and a really cute pair of earrings. <3
Then we went out for dinner to our favorite sushi restaurant (early trying to beat the crowd) and we had a delicious dinner with fried tempura ice cream for dessert!! Then we went home and watched some dvr'd tv shows. I need to start taking pictures! How do you manage to capture everything? I am so jealous! I'm lucky if I have battery left on my cellphone to take pictures :/ I have to start carrying my camera everywhere!

Vday wasn’t so loving to me and the hubs. I came home to my man in bed with a migraine. I took care of him for about two hours until I got SICK. It was not pretty, or romantic. Last year on valentines day i was in a car accident (my fault…poo). I’m not sure we ever want Valentines day to come again!

I got a bag of peanut M&M’s, too!! I made my sweetheart a Valentine in the form of a video blog: http://cherrycokecruising.com/?p=2767

Valentine’s Day was my baby girl’s 5th birthday. We already celebrated her birthday with a bowling party on Sunday. For her actual birthday, I dressed her in her cutest V-Day outfit and we sent her to school with cupcakes for her class. It ended up being more of a regular day for us (dance class) but we did meet up with some friends for wings. =)

Haha we watched What’s Your Number last night, too. I agree – they did go a little over the top with the f-bomb. Especially with the kids! And I love House Bunny! My husband likes it (maybe even more than me) and loves the part when the girl tries to use “Drop off some timber” as a pickup line!
Andrea says
Read your post and started laughing out loud. We ALSO watched What’s Your Number last night. We’re big House Bunny fans (as in, going #2 is consistently referred to as “doing something mysterious” or “dropping off some timber” in this house. TIM? sorry.)
Anyway, I agree, it could have been funnier but was still worth the $1.28 we spent to get it from redbox.
Glad you had a great v-day 🙂

I look forward to having Valentine’s Day dinner with my husband and a child/children. I haven’t begun that journey into Motherhood yet (much to my mother’s dismay “one and a half more years??”), but I hope to one day have half as much fun as you guys seem to have with your sweet son! Also, Those cupcakes are adorable (obviously!).

That Valentine that Will (and you) made for Jeremy is adorable! And I love how he is perfectly posed with it in the photos! So cute!

I had to comment to tell you how much I LOVE House Bunny. I watch that movie every times it comes on TV, which is a lot, and it NEVER gets old. I definitely quote it and promote it to all my friends. It’s a great pick me up movie! I guess I better go…I have to drop off a load of timber…
