Yes. This is the world’s easiest riddle. Especially if you already saw the first photo…
The answer is Weston’s little corner!
I was hunting a mirror for over his dresser and when we tackled the little ‘mud room’ area I took down the green mirror that lived there. Unfortunately I didn’t connect the dots right away. The ole brain is half unplugged half the time. And when I say half…I mean 97%. Because that is half to people who are short on brain power. Math is the first thing to go. Unless you are a celebrity…then it’s undergarments.
Back to the mirror. I actually went to three different stores looking for one…drove all the way to Home Goods…nada….Target…too small….and Hobby Lobby…too drab. And when it finally dawned on me to put this green mirror up, I thought…am I going buck wild here with the color? because I think I kinda am…and it feels kinda good.
This corner was really lacking as you can see below. The entire space is kinda drabby right now and I need a bit more color. As you may remember (ok..let’s face it…you don’t), I considered doing Will’s room originally in a rainbow of colors. I ended up not going that route…but the idea of splashes of every color really says happy to me. Know what else says happy? My second born. That kid is happy.
I dragged the mirror upstairs and decided that I was gonna need to hang it differently than it was hanging in the downstairs hall. The vertical was just not doing it for me. But when I flipped it on the side, the proportions were all like DING DING DING RING DING!
The fox says hang it horizontal.
I used a couple big hooks and some heavy duty Velcro strips to make sure that Weston couldn’t pull the bottom away from the wall while he was getting his little tush cleaned up.
Next victim? The lamp shade.
Please note that this light is huge. Like so big that I couldn’t find a replacement shade. The shade that came with it I actually traded to my sister for this one. Both were nearly identical but this shade sat a little lower and was just BEGGING for a new color.
I actually didn’t remove any of the existing fabric on it. I couldn’t. It was glued to the framework really well and I was afraid to bend the inner liner. So instead, I removed the little brown ribbon trim that was on the top and bottom and then just used spray adhesive and some hot glue to attach this scrap of fabric straight on top of the old fabric.
The fabric was in the swag bags from the Haven conference last year…they were AWESOME. And I originally got burlap….but then I traded for this red striped fabric because dude…red and white striped fabric would win over burlap any day…in any contest…except maybe mud wrestling because the country is where burlap rules.
Can you tell I ate too many candies while watching that nail biter of a Super Bowl game? And the result is this post…
note to self…I am weird. and I love the direction Weston’s room is turning.
