Every year I share a recap of the best of ABP’s best posts. Granted, I talk about randomness a lot so I use the word ‘best’ loosely. Like anything could be best…like a post about my dinner. Which was mexican in case you were wondering. Jeremy said it was the best mexican I’ve made. See how well I trained him? If only I could train his son to sleep at night. THAT would be the best.
Anyhoo…this post is all about 2010. What we did, where we went, what we worked on, who we birthed. Milestones, celebrations, joys, trials and everything in between. And we are blessed. And we tear up in gratitude…to you for laughing alongside us, to family for loving us in spite of, to friends for lifting us up, and especially to the Lord for…well, bringing us to our knees and making twenty-ten the one that made the Bower family…well, a real family. And I know that I am wholey looking forward to twenty-eleven as one that will change our lives forever. It will hold hard times along with the good…but I can’t wait till this time next year when I can look back and know that we grew, we matured, we laughed till our sides hurt and we had more fun than we thought was possible as we took this ride called life.

Thanks for sharing the belly hug again. I’m pretty sure my baby fever just spiked. I didn’t even bother to read Will’s birth story for the 500th time. I don’t think I can handle it after that picture! I think you should edit your month resolutions to include getting pregnant! I mean, 4 kids is a lot! You need to get busy!

I LOVE your blog!!!!!!! I can’t wait to hear and see what 2011 brings for you!!! Think of all the amazing projects with your new home!!!!! You are more inspiring than Martha Stewart!!!

heehee…Audrey I would add it somewhere in there but apparently God didn’t put me in charge of my uterus 🙂

Thanks for all these posts, I’ve enjoyed following along with you over the past year. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for 2011!

Dear Katie Bower,
I know this is a little beside the point, but have you tried Babywise or Baby Whisperer to help your little guy sleep? We used Babywise and had our little guy sleeping 12 hours straight by 6 mos. Goodness knows you need RELIEF!

I wanted to thank you for this post. See, I just found your blog not too long ago and haven’t been able to get through all of the posts yet, so I was very excited to finally get an explanation of why I see pictures of Will in Steeler’s garb. I am a Pittsburgher and of course, am a huge Steeler fan! Here we go, Steelers! Also, this was the first time I read all of your birth stories- how beautiful!
Deborah says
OK, the birth stories were AMAZING, I literally bawled my eyes out, what a beautiful story to tell your little one. You said EVERYTHING all of us mom’s think but for some reason just can’t put into words as eloquently as you do. Can’t wait for new goodness !!!!
Katie says
Hi Leah Marie,
It’s not the going to sleep that is the problem…he does that fine…it’s the staying asleep. He likes to wake up and cry every two hours. He’s done it for months. And when I say cried…it’s like four hours long. Four hours is our limit…after that, we can’t let it go on. We tried both methods you mentioned…but we also had trouble because we are still night nursing…so if Will woke up at midnight and wasn’t supposed to nurse till 3 am, then he cried till 3 am. It sucks but one day it’ll get better. We know it will.

“and especially to the Lord for…well, bringing us to our knees and making twenty-ten the one that made the Bower family…well, a real family.”
Hi Katie, I really love your blog and you and your commitment to God and I never leave negative comments. I hope you don’t take this wrong, but I just wanted you to know that the statement you made above could be hurtful to a lot of couples. You referred to your family as becoming “real” because you added a baby to it this year. I would encourage you to think of the couples who cannot conceive a child. Are they any less a family? No. God designed family first as husband and wife, then children could be added. Please know I only hope to enlighten you and not to rebuke. I know you meant nothing harmful in what you said. Praying blessings for you and yours in the new year.

This is awesome – it’s like reliving Bower Power from the past year, and getting reacquainted with an old friend. The cool part about doing a post like this is your archives kind of act like a journal or diary, so when you put together the Year End post, you can reflect on the year and have everything that’s happened over the past year all in one shot.
Leah Marie says
I thought about that after the fact…our little guy didn’t stop the night nursing until we started supplementing formula. And you just bumped your way up 2 notches on my prayer list! So sorry, girlie!!!
Kristen @ JustLiveSimply says
I seriously look forward to ABP’s best posts recap. Everything I love from the previous year just a click away.
Thanks for doing this each year, it probably takes some serious time to organize it and not very many blogs do such a thorough recap. so THANK YOU for being awesome.
Katie says
I completely understand Heather what you are saying…and I hope you know that this wasn’t to imply that couples aren’t families. In fact, it really doesn’t have much to do with the baby at all. It really had to do with a much larger Bower family…that’s all I really care to explain here right now…but basically I am just thankful that the Lord brought us together and taught us the lesson that it doesn’t matter what happened in the past or whether you are blood or not, it is love that makes you a family.

Thanks…I need all the prayers I can get. Especially since Will spits out formula…little stinker.

I wish you would tell us more about this! I love when you write about Will! My daughter did the same thing and it just stopped like a week ago when she turned one. I thought it would magically stop when we switched to formula at 9 months, but it didn’t. I finally figured out that if she takes two good naps a day, she sleeps all night, 12 hours. It’s great! It sounds like you’re in the same position as we were…you just have to deal with it until he outgrows it!

A lot can happen in a year, huh?! What a great year with so many blessings! I look forward to what God has in store for all of us in 2011!!!
Delta says
Have you ever read this book? I’ve heard great things about it… my “babies” are grown now so I didn’t read it myself. Good Luck!

So, I started following you after the birth of my little man Everett last March. I love your humor, projects, and the fact that you love Jesus. Reading this post and seeing that you are a STEELERS fan, makes me love you that much more. Seriously. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh and have cheered for the Stillers my whole life! I now live in Philadelphia with my husband and even more appreciate a fellow transplanted Pittsburgh fan!
