You probably thought that our vacation was over, didn’t you?
Then you would be tricked like a magician. wait. that would make you tricked like a magician’s audience. unless you were just super savvy and don’t get fooled easily. like those people that sit there and announce the how-to’s when really they should just be saying “Whhhoooooaaaa!” like everyone else when the assistant gets sawed in half and then turns into a helicopter flying panther.
Anyhoo. The point is, we thought our vacation was coming to a close and then our cell phone rang. It was my brother. du-du-DUH! You can imagine what happened:
Of course it had to happen when it’s most inconvenient. That’s how cars roll. You know, besides the gas.
So while El Gorila took a look at the beast, us women & children folk got a nutritious lunch.
McDonald’s did not sponsor this post. But if they would like to, I like bacon. and my boyfriend likes milkshakes. Please do not mix the two. McThank you.
The kids weren’t disappointed. To them, it just meant one more day of vacation. Oh to have that easy-going attitude.
My brother did what he could with his toolkit…aka…his keys.
But in the end, we knew that we would have to wait till the morning for a mechanic to take a look at the engine. Of course, me being a big kid myself, was pleased to offer our ‘services’ as a fair trade for an extra day by the pool…as in I offered up my husband. I think I definitely got the short end of that stick…
Of course, while the adults were sorting out the details of what, where, and how broke we were all gonna be at the end of the day, I took the kiddos to a nearby patch of grass to avoid the onslaught of kid whiney questions.
The final decision was that we were gonna go back to the house and stay an extra night. The only unfortunate part of the entire thing was that the cleaning crew was already there mopping up our mess. Here’s Will doing his best impersonation of the photos I missed:
Hey kid, you missed a spot. Seriously. Get on that.
Can I tell you how much I love these swimming trunks? Like more than Jennifer Lopez loves shakin her groove thing. And she does. She REALLY does.
Most of the rest of the day we spent in the pool.
Which brings me to my next point….Jeremy, if you are listening, I want you to build me a pool. I think we could DIY it. One weekend, a couple thousand gallons, maybe a water feature….nothing too fancy.
This was the first day that I can without a doubt say that Will enjoyed the pool. The other days he merely tolerated it…but this day was different. It kinda scared me a little. Like any moment I would turn and see him smelling the bottom of the pool.
Which reminds me of what we would tell little kids when I was a lifeguard. We told smart alec brats that the lines on the pool floor smelled like licorice. Excessive nose fountains are hilarious.
Will got to spend some time with my brother. Brad calls him BillieJack. Random fun fact.
Can I just say that most times I am not funny at all…or clever…or much of anything more than a smidge boring?
If you meet me in real life, let me consider you warned.
Also, Will took his first little spill outside the pool. You can see the scrape on his chin. He’s still perfect in my eyes though. Yes, he has poots than smell like freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.
Most of the pool time, Will spent like this:
Random and awesome.
Here is the gal of the hour spreading her southern charms.
Did I mention that the view from the pool was this? Amazing.
This needs to be posted in my bathroom to remind me that twenty bucks goes a long way for cuticles that are growing their own village.
After a day at the pool, I convinced everyone that we should hit up the spot where Jeremy & I got engaged and then take the boat ride to City Walk.
Did I mention that the hotel is very pretty and romantic? It is.
Bubba said that he never saw his dad & mom hold hands before. Like I said, this place is like Jolt Cola of love.
The boat ride is my favorite though. And yes, this photo looks like an ad for family fun.
This one? Not so much.
This actually counts as Will’s first boat ride. Verdict? SUCCESS!
He loved it.
That’s him signing “WIND IN MY HAIR!”
The rest of the night was fun…and I could go on to describe it all…but long story short, my camera died, we ate at Hard Rock and we stayed up till midnight talking about how crazy life is after you have kids. And when I say crazy, I mean ‘baby-centric’.
So that is how our vacation went an extra day long. More to come…afterall, we had the whole drive home to enjoy. Unless of course, our car broke down.
It didn’t 🙂

Will’s wind-in-the-hair look is phenomenal. Get his modeling career started NOW!
P.S. I am super impressed your brother let you take his picture while he was trying to fix a broken car. That is some positive attitude. Or maybe you’re even more BA than we all thought.

You could totally DIY a pool. At least….my builder husband thinks so. Apparently when we move house, to acerage, that doesn’t already have a pool(sorry sidetracked), anyway…you just need a concrete water tank without the top(obviously), dig the hole, plop her in (I think that’s the technical term) & fill with water = voila! I’ve shared this tip over at YHL also, since I’m happy to have someone else hear all about it other than just little ol’ me, whenever the topic of pool building comes up & Hubs is around. I’m sure we will be trying this one day, he seems very passionate about it. Our current house already has a pool, so we are waiting to test this theory. The filter etc, is all easy to DIY too-apparently, just a few cuts, bits of plumbing supplies etc. See, how easy it is! 😉

Hi Katie, I love reading your blog…you are truly blessed with such a beautiful family.
P.S. I have to ask, has anyone ever told you that you look like a brunette Britney Spears? Not a bad thing!!!
sarah says
Will looks so much like his Dad in that picture with the goggles.

Let me tell you something about me…I get away with a lot. A LOT. My family tolerates my obsessive picture taking because if they don’t, well, have you seen the movie Godzilla?

Random Ques. – What products do you use in your hair when you want to wear it curly? You have the prettiest hair! My curls are ususally so wild and frizzy….yuck!
BTW, your trip looks like it was really fun and that pool was amazing. It would be so fun to walk out to that everyday. I think you should totally get one!

Ah I love Will’s swim trunks! Can you tell me where they are from? I live in a beach city in Florida and my 13mth old spends a lot of time in the water so I’m always looking for cute suits!

Funny. My husband and I and our two kids were down in Orlando for a vacation. At one point I totally saw a girl who looked like you. And I actually thought “That girl looks like Katie Bower”. I didn’t see Will or Jeremy so I thought nothing of it. Until I came home and realized you were actually in the same places at the same time. So maybe I did see you. If I had known that I would have said “Hi, I read your blog”
🙂

Hi AshleyRenee,

I love seeing all of your vacation pics – your family looks like so much fun! 🙂 And I had to giggle at your use of the word “poot”. That’s what my son Ben calls poop and it cracks me up every.single.time. he says it. 🙂

I laughed out loud at your WIND IN HIS HAIR comment and choked. While sitting in my cubicle at work. Fail. Your comment however, was a total win 🙂

Katie-
I just wanted to say that Will is the cutest little thing…I would say ever, but sorry, my little man beats him out by just a smidge! 😉
Where did you get those most adorable madras swimming trunks? Love them! Love seeing all the pics of sweet little Will! =)

When you mentioned the milkshake and bacon, it made me think of the new bacon sundae at Denny’s. Have you seen it? It kinda grosses me out, but maybe it’s really good?
I love your pictures. Right now I just have a point-and-shoot, but I’ve decided to learn how to use the manual settings because I’m so inspired by your photos. Seriously, the colors are perfect – and Will’s a cutie too! 😉
Katie says
I bet your little guys’ turds smell like roses, huh?
And the swimmin’ trunks are from BabyGap.

did that pool enclosure prevent tanning because the glass absorbed the uva/uvb/uvwhatever rays?
Katie says
It didn’t for us. In fact, Will has a farmers tan now (guess that baby waterproof sunblock didn’t stay on even with multiple applications!).

I have “Total Eclipse of the Heart” stuck in my head now. “Turn arouuunnnnndddd” ….crap.
Anyway, I have an identical beast! My transmission took a dump at about 85k miles…it was wretched. I was so sad, but a new transmission later, and she’s roadtripping like a champ. I hope yours is fixed and healthy, I love my Expedition more than anything and it hurts my heart to see a fellow white Eddie Bauer edition (holla!) in pain. Wahhhhh.
