I have a lot on my mind lately.  I need a whole post just to get my words out…but it seems as if my workload has quadroopled (yes, that is the correct spelling) with the new photography biz.  I’m not complaining.  too busy….or too bizzy to complain 🙂  

If you haven’t seen yet, I decided to take the plunge and do the whole photography thang…like for realz.  And yes, when I get a little stressed, I tend to use ganstah language.  I’m diggidy-doggish like that.  Um.  yeah.  that was so un-hip…. as is using the word hip. 

anyhoo…

I figured it’s not really work when it’s something you love, right?  wrong.  running a business is a whole lotta not-taking-or-editing-photos-work.  But it’s the price you pay for the chance to persue your passion….and I am nothing if not ridiculously passionate…so I will swallow that lump of not-fun-business-stuff in order to get this thing going right.

So far, I set up bank accounts, registered with ‘authorities’ (that sounds so bad to the bone), ordered business cards, set up invoicing, created my Zenfolio client proofing website, added a FAQ section to the photography website, and prepped for my first official shoot as Katie Bower Photography.  and….I created a little button….

it’s on the sidebar….so you guys can easily go to the Katie Bower Photography site any ole time…yo. 

Also…yes, my boys…the Steelers…handed over the victory to the Packers.  My congratulations.  Don’t worry – we’ll get you next time.  

Lastly…I turned 30 over the weekend.  THIRTY.  as in YEARS OLD.  crazy crazy crazy.  more on that later.

REALLY lastly….don’t forget about me and my boyz – the Nate-dog Berkus!  Tuesday night.  You’ll get to see me fakin’ a southern accent with the main man of home decor.  Also – I created that little header box just so you’d remember.  You like it?  That’s me back in my modeling days.  before I traded my waist for a little boy named Will 🙂

  7. I’m excited to watch! On your photography site, you mentioned there are tricks to help with rainy days, would you use lighroom to correct this? Just wondering… I am at very very super beginning of learning photography.

  8. Big Packer fan here… (live 30 minutes south of GB) and I can’t say the Steelers handed the Packers anything! All of the turnovers that we converted into TDs (except maybe the one INT at the end of the 2nd quarter that Jaret Bsh picked up) were forced turnovers (but I could argue that INT was forced, too) 🙂 Just saying!!! 🙂

    Happy birthday over the weekend! Just had to get my Packer $0.02 in there 😉

  14. I mean, not to be technical or anything but I think that is the definition of handing over the game….turnovers. In my opinion, Green Bay did only one amazing thing….make hardly any mistakes. If the Steelers hadn’t turned over the ball so many times you can guarantee that the W would have been to the Black & Gold.

    But to be honest Heather, we are probably not gonna see eye to eye on this one…which is fine as long as Jesus agrees with me 🙂

  16. Katie, so excited to watch Nate tonight! He’s on at 10:30 a.m. in my area, and I DVR him every day. That is a super gorge photo of you.

    I thought of you guys and your grandpa during the game (when the Packers won yay!sorry!) — my hardcore Steelers fan brother-in-law stayed home from work yesterday because he just didn’t want to hear about it from his coworkers. 🙁

    Best of luck in your business — you will be great. For starters, who wouldn’t want to work with a photographer who has your personality… and then the skills to back it up?!

  19. Okay, I just watched!! You looked beautiful and your southern accent wasn’t all out there like I was waiting for. My favorite part….. at the end when Nate is talking into the camera to tell us what is coming up and your just staring at him in awe. It’s adorable!! I would have TOTALLY done the same thing. It was a great segment and Nate should totally have had you co-host!! Great job!!

  22. First, congratulations on turning 30! ( I still have 2 years to go)
    Secondly, isn’t it just so much fun to start your own business?! I did the same thing last year (www.itstutoring.com), and I was even excited to go to my accountant yesterday to show him how hard I had worked and how much fun I had had. I’ve also registered with athourities like you, and payed my first business tax! Hahaha.
    Good luck with you business.
    Also, can’t wait to see the Nate show.

Katie – I have been following your blog for about a year now, and when you mentioned you were going to be on TV I made a note of my calendar to make sure to watch The Nate Berkus show today to see one of my favorite bloggers. I just saw the segment and you did such a great job and he was so complimentary of your home – that has to be an awesome feeling plus a kiss from NATE! Wow! I think you have done a great job with your first home and I am looking forward to seeing what you do with the new Bower pad. Congrats on your photography business! Glad it’s taking off so quickly!

  25. I think I missed you on Nate Berkus!! I just got on and saw the box advertising it and turned the TV as fast as I could! We get Nate in the morning and there is only 10 more minutes left of the show. 🙁 I hope you will post your clip later.

  31. Congrats Katie (on everything good that’s going for you now – the new house, turning 30, the new business, a famous tv show appearance – you deserve it all)! You really inspire me – especially with your photography. I just recently purchased my first SLR camera. I’m just wondering – where did you get your photography and photoshop skills? Are there any good learning sources you could recommend? Also – how are you liking your new Jo Totes bag?

  32. Isn’t starting a business great (read: a pain in the arse?) We finally got a biz license for our endeavors and I spent all weekend working on our first round of taxes. NO FUN! You’ll do great, though, its so rewarding!

  33. You are right, definitely not going to see eye-to-eye!

    Making few mistakes is what winning a football game is all about, though. That is what defines winning and losing. The Steelers struggled the whole game with getting anything going so forced TOs or not I don’t see them winning.

    I was mostly surprised that Troy was so quiet the whole game.

    I can’t believe you are 30, I have been thinking you were like 24 this whole time. People always tell me that’s a good thing (to be told you look younger than you are) but it mostly annoys me because I get tired of being mistaken for a teenager when I’m 26…But maybe you don’t mind? Either way you’re great have a Happy Birthday!

  35. A Hint for Your Taxes: I got a lot of write offs when I did my taxes. My accountant told me that anything that I use the tiniest bit can be a write off: printing paper, pens, books, newspapers subscriptions, furnitures for your office, cell phone, car, gas, work attire… the list can be made long. Just wanted to let you know incase you things you can use as a write off as well. Good luck!
