It’s May y’all and that means SPRING. Or here in Georgia….95 degree temps on their way 🙂 But while we don’t have the longest spring in the world, we do appreciate every day of it…pollen and all. So grab your Claritin and pull off your UGGs….it’s time for a recap of some of my favorite spring time projects.
Paint some outdoor flower pots springy colors! This chippy ladder was a hand-me-down from my mom and we spruced it up with some brightly colored pots and some fresh new plants. It’s amazing how it made even the dreary corner of our deck seem intentional and beautiful.
Create a container herb garden! (this post is a whole patio cleanup – you don’t want to miss it!) About twice a year we have to pressure wash this entire under-deck area and last time we did, we created a fun little tabletop herb garden for garnishing our meals (trust me….even boxed mac-n-cheese seems fancy with a little basil cut on top!) and for our home cooked dishes. PLUS it made this seating area smell amazing!
A couple of summers ago, we refinished a friend’s death trap…I mean…deck 🙂 HERE is the post with a TON of befores and afters. If the budget is tight and all you can do is create a sitting area, get some fun colored adirondack chairs, add some indoor pillows (for touchability!) and a plant stand turned side table. It’s instant and cheap beauty and function. (Click here to make a box planter out of pickets!)
Build some new tall planters (spoiler alert – these were under $20!) One of my favorite projects of all time are these tall planters that we made for our deck. The plans have been tweaked by lots of other bloggers and tackled by a ton of readers and EVERY.SINGLE.ONE looks fabulous so I’m sure that they will look great for you too!
Make your house smell AMAZING (like walking into a William Sonoma or Pottery Barn!). Spring is the perfect time to transition scents in your home….out with the cinnamon and in with fresh lemon and vanilla….here is a recipe.
Build a potting bench to get your green thumb going (full plans and it even has a trap door for dirt storage!) I am notorious for buying ALL the plants and then killing most of them….#wateringishardyall….but at least my potting area is clean! ha! If you want to have a spot for your own gardening adventures, I could not recommend this potting station more. It’s the perfect height with tons of storage.
Spray plain pots for a happy vibe! Why big planters only come in brown, red and green is beyond me….so what’s a girl to do?! Spray your own colors onto the pot! Here’s how to achieve that ombre vibe.
Makeover your entire deck! It’s amazing what sanding and staining can do 🙂 We tackled our deck a couple of years ago and it’s still one of my favorite transformations because it’s a perfect spot in the spring to enjoy a lemonade or bowl of ice cream. It was definitely labor intensive but the results were well worth it!
Spring cleaning is upon us (my closets are crying for help!) but this storage area I tackled in our basement is still tidy! Here is the post about how we store all our holiday decor and organized it in a narrow hall for maximum storage.
And don’t forget to check out these past table setting posts for Mother’s Day. You can make your own mom feel extra special with the thing they want most….time with you! click on these links – Springy Table, Citrus Table, Under the Sea Table, Laundry love Table, Garden Table.

WOW!! I want that potting bench!! 😮
My cousin made me 2 of the tall planters a few years ago. I love them. My niece gave me hers this year. I love them. 🙂
