Can you even imagine the turmoil of saying no to this little dude? Those big brown eyes (which are pretty much the only thing he got from me) literally make it impossible for me to keep my cheek-pinching-chin-stroking-raspberry-blowing-neck-kissing self off him. If affection was sugary, well, I’d be Willy Wonka and he would be my everlasting gobstopper. I just can’t get enough.
I discovered this file labeled “Will – Bathtime” and inside were all these fun photos of him before “the great chop of 2011” as he enjoyed a bath.
He loves water. just like his mama. just like his daddy. just like pretty much every person in our families. If I could, I would live on the water. I would have a giant house – not tall – just spread out – like a campground with cabins that connect through secret tunnels and all our family members could come live with us. and we would boat. boat and swim and fish and kayak and canoe and wakeboard and kneeboard and pontoon and tube and skip rocks…every. single. day.
I guess for now I’ll just settle for an old file filled with bathtime photos.
He’s very serious about filling up the cup. I can just hear his thoughts – Mom…this is serious man’s work. now leave me alone. and get that camera outta here before I drown it.
I love his soft little jawline. He gets that from Jer. I have a more angular jaw (especially when its not covered by chub)…and my mom always told me that she wanted a more angular jaw because in her mind the prettiest girls have one. Maybe she was just flattering me. Probably. But I love Will’s. It looks like a kind jaw….and yes, I just invented that.
Filling up…
Dumping out.
And then came the hairstyles. The Alfalfa…
The mohawk…
The Nick Nolte…
The drowned rat…
What a fun little bathtime that was. I barely remember it. So I’m glad I have the photos.
It’s funny how a routine thing – like a daily bath – can be forgotten. It’s something we do every day with Will. But yet, one day I am sure I will look back and forget all about how he would dump water on his face, take a gulping breathe and then laugh. Or how his skin felt when we suds up and washed away the evidence of the fun we had that day. Or how he would splash during our little homemade bathroom song and smile so big that his dimple popped in and his eyes sparkled. It flies by, doesn’t it?
All that to say…bath time is fun. And Will does it all the time.
So when Heather of Green Barn Soaps Co. emailed me and asked if she could send my little Jedi Warrior a bar of her handmade gentle baby soap…I was really excited. Mostly because tons of people in our family have eczema… so we try to limit the number of irritants that we put on Will’s skin. But also because these are handcrafted and look like those fancy bars of soaps that you see for $20 a bar in those specialty shops…and let’s just be honest, I want to be fancy like that. I’m not. C’mon…my kid has a farmer’s tan…we aren’t typical fancy-people.
When they came in the mail, I about died. She sent me a couple bars to try out too – like the Black tea, Poppyseed & Agave bar and the Lemon Poppyseed Cake bar. Amazing. I seriously think this is one awesome stocking stuffer for those moms/sisters/fancy girls in your life….and they look so darling stacked in a soap tray beside the sink. totally tres chic. (did you get that pun?!)
Oh and just so everyone is clear – I took a bath and rubbed this bar all over my nekked body and will continue to do so till it is gone. It felt clean and fresh and the natural scent was perfect…not too strong…and my skin felt SMOOTH. Like clean and soft and like what I imagine JLo feels like (if JLo is reading, can I feel your skin sometime to compare? It’s for science not because I am a total weirdo.).
BUT here is the good news – Green Barn Soaps Co. is giving you a discount! Everyone clap out loud. right now. at your computer. You can get 10% off your order using the code BowerPower2011 till the end of December.

I’m a single gal with no kiddos so I don’t really stuff stockings. But back when my sisters, cousins and I were younger our granny used to give us stockings chock full of toiletries–including soap!–and little goodies. We always felt so big and grown up to have our very own tube of toothpaste and bottle of travel size shampoo. lol

My family has a tradition of stuffing stockings that are about 4 feet tall. We stuff them with oranges and apples, candy and all sorts of gifts and toiletries. I have so much fun scouring the clearance racks for awesome goodies to fill them with!
I love those sweet baby pictures. I can’t get enough of my little man either and I try to cherish every moment – especially things like bath time. It moves too quickly.

Just kidding! Our stockings come out on Christmas Eve and each year you never know what might be in there! Usually it’s candy for mom and dad and for my little 2yr old she may get some of her favorites like dried cranberries and animal crackers.

Cute pictures of little Will. I have a little Will who is 8. Did you know it is the most popular boys name in Georgia?

For my 10 year old girl–sleeping mask, little things from bath and body works…hair stuff. For my boy, Halo stuff. The infamous Lifesaver books for both. For husband always some type of salted peanut–guys love that. And I buy him a cool guy magazine about cars or boats. He buys me US Weekly! Love magazines in the stockings!

Stocking stuffers are a BIG deal to me, so much so that after receiving an empty stocking my first year of being married—I now include suggestions for stocking stuffers on my Christmas list to the Hubbs. 😉 For him I’ve got new socks, earbuds, Lindt truffles (in white chocolate–blech!), a new toothbrush and some moisturizer (my attempt for the new year is to get Hubbs to take care of his skin so I don’t look like I’m married to a 50 year old when I’m 30 haha).
Nicola Hill says
So Fresh and So Clean Clean! My husband and I don’t actually do stockings. It is just the two of us, so it is not really a big deal. My mom always stuffs them with candy and toiletries–razors, Q-tips, makeup, Chapstick, etc.

My favorite stocking stuffers when we were kids were the oranges we got at the bottom of the sock. Totally lame, but we all loved it – it’s an OLD tradition from back when stuff like oranges and other fresh fruits were exotic. 🙂 We don’t have kids yet, so we don’t stuff anyone’s stockings (I believe $her would throw in a “that’s what she said?”) but our own.

My hub’s fam always did toiletry items in the stocking, but my fam went for the less practical, more popular candy/gum/magazine combo, so we blend the two approaches!
PS– now I must google the rest of the lyrics to that song so that I can get it properly stuck in my head! Do you happen to write your blog posts in the wee hours of the morning? For some reason I picture you that way– your sense of humor reminds me of my college suite-mates and I getting a little punchy and giggly after staying up too late. It’s a good thing, I promise! Makes me laugh and get nostalgic at the same time!

My Mom was a genius with our stockings, she (I mean Santa) always filled them with little wrapped toys along with the obligatory apple/orange and toothbrush. Then when we woke up Christmas morning, our stocking had been filled and placed by our pillows during the night. I never realized it until I got older that this clever method probably bought her at least another 30 minutes of sleep on Christmas morning as we tore into and played with our stocking stuffers first before running out to the tree!

We don’t do stockings, but my family will be getting homemade canned jam from me this year. Another little gift that is good especially for single people in your life (or let’s be honest… for yourself) is frozen homemade cookie dough. Roll into balls like you are gonna pop it on the baking tray, then freeze instead. It’s awesome because then the giftee can throw a few cookies on a tray and bake ’em up in a few minutes… instead of spending 2 hours and ending up 10 lbs fatter from eating 2 dozen cookies.
Sydney says
So fresh and so clean! I love neat little trinkets that you would never buy for yourself but totally need.
Amanda says
So fresh and so clean clean! Our little girl is turning 2 in January and we’ve been working on potty training, so if I can find panties small enough for her that’s what will go in the stockings! Hmm, I might just start a tradition and get some panties for myself and husband.
Monique says
“So Fresh and So Clean Clean” I got little things online that hold your spoons to the pot when you’re cooking… since my family just tends to set spoons all over the place…. I also got some lip glosses too. So those are my stocking stuffers this year.
Also, can we talk about how adorable Will is with a mohawk? Even though he’s darn cute to begin with.
Amanda says
So Fresh and So Clean Clean!
We don’t stuff stockings because we’re Jewish 😉 But we’ll be getting little things like that usually from my mom! She always buys my Hubs a “man soap” as he calls it!

“So Fresh & So Clean Clean” (<— I totally just time travelled to my high school graduation party… ah, Outkast. We hearted you.)
Stocking stuffers depend on the recipient. My cats get practical treats like Temptations Dentabites since they aren't capable of flossing or brushing. My mom might get some tea bags (as in the hot drink) and my dad something for his car. I'm thinking this year the stuffers will be more along the lines of a practical joke.
Erin says
So Fresh and So Clean Clean!
Stocking stuffers are usually toiletries, books, magazines and an orange with a quarter taped to it at the bottom.

I love stocking stuffers. It is what we do as gifts to our family members for Christmas. That way no one is spending an arm and a leg for Christmas gifts. Christmas is about sharing it with your family and enjoying that time. This year it will be chocolate dipped marshmellows that I found on Pinterest and something fun (my husband is thinking Snuggies:) )
Amy says

This is my first year as the official stocking stuffer! My little one is just 14 months old so I’ll be filling his with small balls, a package of animal crackers, and a little car. My mom always put an orange in the toe of our stocking and then filled it with candy and one other item, like a watch or a necklace. I’m so excited for Christmas! I love the look of this soap too. It really does look expensive and if it smells as good as you say it does it’s a GREAT deal.

So Fresh and So Clean Clean! First off, I thought that my sisters and I were the only ones with the underground tunnel scheme! We originally planned to have them meet in our closets (we share clothes), but now that we are married, linked kitchens would be much more practical! We always have random stuff in our stocking along with the requisite orange in the toe–generally very practical stuff that we need but isn’t exciting enough for wrapping paper–apple slicer any0ne?

So fresh and so clean, clean… wow. This reminds me of my freshman year of college when I had a plymouth neon with a sunroof and had this on a mix CD my boyfriend made me using napster, back when it was free!
So basically this is why I read the post! The cute boy pix were good, I admit. My son is a bit older than Will and still doesn’t have that much hair!
My mom used to sell avon and so we’d get Avon cosmetics and goodies in our stockings. Then one year, she stopped doing this and we were major bummed. So I always hope for lotions, eye liners, and lip balm in my stocking!

I work at Children’s hospital and we have all this random promotional stuff that has been taking up the limited storage areas that I have. Random stuff, we’re talking frisbees, heat packs, pencils, pens that light up, coin purses, chip clips, magnets, bandaid holders, draw string bags, pencil cases, stress balls that look life lifesavers, and more. My husband and I have stockings that we hang, but so far in our 2 married Christmases, we haven’t stuffed them! I usually put smaller gifts like socks, boxers, and candy in my husband’s stocking. My daughter will be a year old, so small items probably aren’t a good idea for her stocking, and we’ll go with a small stuffed animal and possibly a small board book. Our dog, Wendel, gets a new stuffed toy in his stocking. Everyone gets a present on Christmas. Even Wendel. 🙂

Toiletries will definitely be in stockings…I’m thinking fun toothpaste and a toothbrush for our munchkin. Never too early to get excited about brushing your teeth!

So fresh and so clean clean….. My 14 mo old son doesn’t know this now but one day he’ll thank me for putting soap in his stocking. Last year I put in small candies, toiletries, and a small gift from santa like a watch for the hubby. For my son, I think I’ll put in a small box of crayons, a new pair of kicks (it’ll be a lot harder to stuff shoes down his stocking when he gets older), and maybe a new sippy cup with a staw.
On the topic of Christmas, I have a very important question for you. How do you keep Will out of your Christmas tree? Do you build a small fortress around it? Have a small tree up high on a table? Watch him like a hawk and just hope he doesn’t put the pine needles in his mouth before you can stop him? Like a vertically challenged tree, I’m stumped!

I’ll also be making the traditional Christams cookies – because if I didn’t my family might kill me.
Last thing: notes of appreciation. I’m making little cards with things I appreciate about each person in my family and putting them in stockings. I’m even using the wax seal I got for my birthday to close the notes 🙂

Stocking stuffers are so much fun to shop for – we usually have too many and the stockings are overflowing! Standard stuff – an orange or other fruit for the toe – (last year I found an adorable little pineapple – left my husband wondering what the prickly thing was when he reached in!), candy and a new toothbrush (a good way to start off the new year!). Basically it is whatever strikes your fancy and is reasonably priced or free. And we look all year long – we have had pretty shells from a beach trip and cool rocks from mountain trips included in the past. Just whatever to make each other smile . . .
Handcrafted soap would be an awesome addition this year!

HOLY COW! You guys are AMAZING! I’m pretty sure you all just completely sold me out of stock! I had NO IDEA I would get this kind of response. I feel super blessed!
As an FYI – because I do cold process soaps if I make a few batches this weekend (which I will) they still won’t be ready until after Christmas since there is a four week cure time. So definitely check back in January for some more soaps coming your way!

I always try to do some sort of candy and a little trinket in the stockings, that’s what I was raised getting.
Heidi Seawell says
So fresh & so clean clean!
Growing up, my family didn’t really “stuff” stockings- maybe a pack of M&M’s & some sticks of gum… But then I got married to the official “stocking stuffer” of the world… My husband will put anything into a stocking that can possibly fit- DVD’s, wall art, candy, body spray, naughty & nice things…It all goes in the stocking. As you can imagine, our stockings are mammoth- literally like 2 feet long! 🙂 We could fit our 14 month old in them…
So soap would be right at home in our stockings!

I plan to make or otherwise acquire stockings before Christmas 2012 for my husband, me, and the baby girl we’ll have by then, but for this year we’ll still just be getting stockings from my parents, so I won’t be filling any of my own. My mom has always done the stockings, and she tends towards small toiletries & office supplies, plus the toe of the stocking stuffed with Dove chocolates.

We stuff stockings with anything we find.
Candy, dry fruit, money, jewelry, peanuts in the shell—
the fun thing is every item is individually packed and customized for that individual. Sometimes in larger packing with a small item or in zip lock bags and then wrapped. Sometimes it’s a joke you wrote down– it doesn’t matter and that’s the beauty of it!
Leanne says
So Fresh and So Clean Clean!
My hubby and I do exclusively stockings each year. We never really need anything so we fill stockings with fun gifts, treats, and heart-felt memories. Last year my favorite thing was a card from my sweet husband saying he was ready to start trying to have a baby. We will welcome our first child sometime in the next 5 weeks. He also got be a huge bottle of bubble bath that I LOVED!

SO Fresh SO Clean… My mom gives me the same thing in my stocking ever year — clear Cover Girl mascara. I have insane eyelashes and really dark brown eyes so if I wear black mascara it makes me look like my eyes are closed. My mom discovered clear mascara which separates the lashes and gives them a little shape without the dark color. Moms are the best!

I haven’t put too much thought into stocking stuffers just yet. I have a 6 month old so I’m thinking something along the lines of pacifiers or a rattle? And then my husband will get some red vines (he prefers those over Twizzlers which is blasphamy in my book, but I’m stuck with him) and some other little odds and ends.
And I think Will looks exactly like you.

My girls are 7 and 2 and I’ve always done fancy toiletries (you know the ones that are too expensive to buy on a regular basis but are perfect for birthdays/holidays??), old fashioned toys (ball-in-a-cup, those little wooden finger puppets, little games, etc) and apples/oranges. 🙂 This year however, I’m also adding office supplies for my oldest since she’s totally into the colorful pens, stickers, and cute stationary. And for my youngest, I’m adding big girl panties since she’s almost officially done potty-training. I’m so excited for Christmas!! 🙂

So Fresh and So Clean Clean! I did a little internet sleuthing for stocking stuffers this year. A while back my sister picked me up after surgery – HIGHLY doped up, mind you – and I was so eternally, hopped-up-on-drugs grateful when she applied my Chapstick for me that I told her repeatedly that she was my “best friend ever.” And threw my arms so wide I knocked myself down. But anyhoo…. found a couple “Best Friend Ever” books (yay Richard Scarry!) that will blow away all of the boring stocking stuffers that my mom gets her. Winner!

– Stocking stuffers. My family normally does toiletries and nick-knacks. We used to do candles and smell good things until my mom put the stockings too close to the lit fire place. It turns out Santa brought us hot melted wax all over our filled stockings. Merry Christmas to us! (:

I have not decided about the stockings completely this year. Usually I just add some chocolates on Christmas Eve, but I may put some little trinkets in there this year. My little guy turned 2 in August, so he is that perfect age to REALLY get in to the holiday. Because of that I have been getting a bit carried away with gifts, so who knows what will end up in the stockings! Yikes!
heather @ green barn soaps says
Hi ellie! Yes, I am indeed sold out. Completely. Every. Last. Bit. It was totally unexpected (or I would have made 200 more bars in October!). Unfortunately they take 4 weeks to cure before they can be sold, so anything I make in December won’t be ready until January. Definitely check in mid-January though and I should start to have some more items in stock. Thanks for checking us out! I appreciate it so much.

I try to stay away from candy in the stockings if at all possible. Not because I’m the militant mom who doesn’t want her kid’s teeth rotting out of his head (yes, that would be bad) but more because of the Great Melted Chocolate in the Stocking Disaster of 2007. Let’s just say that if you hang your stockings over the fireplace, you need to make a serious decision about whether or not you will either have candy in the stockings or have the fireplace on. You can’t have both. I found that out the hard way. So, now I do little toiletries and such. If I’m the lucky winner, I will even put these soaps in MY stocking so that Mommy’s stocking gets a little filling too!
heather @ green barn soaps says
Hi Paulina! We’ll be back in January starting to roll out some more soaps. So definitely check back. So Fresh and So Clean Clean! We always restock the boys’ toothbrushes, toothpaste, bandaids and soaps in the stocking. They get other small things too like stickers and matchbox cars 🙂

So Fresh and So Clean Clean!
I typically do fruit (oranges and apples), a little candy (something chocolate and something sweet), gum, a small toy or two, one of those fancy spinning toothbrushes (the only time of year I buy them) and a book. I haven’t bought stockings since we had our first child which means we only have 3. That is enough for the 3 little ones we have now so my husband and I don’t do stockings.

So Fresh and So Clean Clean! I love magazines and little bath stuff in stocking stuffers. I’ve never had to stuff a stocking. Maybe I should start this year. 🙂

I am not exchanging with anyone this year, so a soap gift would be great!

In stockings, we usually do fruit and some chocolates, and then small gift cards, cute little ornaments or trinkets, and little gadgets!

So Fresh and So Clean CLEAN!
This year I’m going to stuff my family’s stockings with handmade gifts like knitted hats and crocheted scarves that I’ve been working on since our hot and sweaty September (don’t worry, the hats aren’t sweaty though, that’d be gross)! I found videos on YouTube that were super easy to follow, and now I’m crafting up a storm!

We stuff our stockings with whatever I see at Target that fits. Can be socks, gum, & other small things! Stockings are the best 🙂
Emily Gravitt says
So Fresh and So Clean Clean! We don’t owen stockings…yet. Still looking for the perfect ones for me, the hubs and our two sweet girls.

So fresh & so clean clean!
I’ve never had stockings hanging on the fireplace so there was never anything to fill, but my mom always had little presents under the tree that I think would be the equivalent to this. I think if I were to be the one stuffing stockings during the holiday season, mine would definitely be a mix of sugary goods and little trinkets. Lovelovelove.
Thanks for the giveaway!

I can’t believe you think Will only resembles you in the eyes…I think he is your little clone in every way! Seriously, spitting image, Katie!

So Fresh and So Clean Clean. With 3 kids who all like to use MY girly soap, this would be divine they could all have their own.
Katie says
Oh my goodness – I would have never thought of that!
Good warning!

So fresh and do clean clean! Our family tradition is “socks and skiivies” in our stockings, so they get filled up with Hanes products of all kinds!

I am stuffing the traditional CANDY in my husband’s stocking along with a ‘thin blue line’ paracord key fob.
I could use some more ideas! Still looking around.

I plan on doing gift cards or chocolates. Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

So Fresh and So Clean Clean! Haha. We do mainly necessities in our stockings – toothbrushes, floss, K-Cups, etc etc. But instead of putting them in stockings (we have lost our stockings in the basement like 3 times), mom gets us something that we’ll use for the rest of the year to stuff. 2 years ago it was a reuseable grocery bag, last year it was a cute LL Bean style tote that had our initial in plaid on the front from Christmas Tree Shop – nothing fancy but way more useful than a stocking that will be lost!

So fresh and so clean. I usually do lotions and movie or Starbucks gift cards. 🙂

I picked up folding toothbrushes for everyone at Target… I use these when I travel & I love them, so I figured my in-laws, out-laws, and everyone else would love them too…

So fresh and so CLEAN C LEAN
I am German, so I am not really familiar with the stocking stuffing tradition, but our advent calendars would always hold candy and chocolate to sweeten the wait until Christmas.

Hubs and I do not have children yet (fingers constantly crossed for that test to be positive!) so no stockings. We have a neice that we purchased an Amigurumi Crochet Doll for – it would fit in a bigger stocking! :o)

Hi Miss Katie! I was wondering if a winner was already selected for this one. If so, who was it? I’m crossing my fingers here! 🙂
Kati says
I was wondering the same thing???
Elisabeth says
Sooooo Katie…. I know you’re a busy woman but could you take a moment to tell me what happened with this giveaway. Was there a winner announced or am I just totally missing something? I guess if I had won I’d know already.
Thank you ma’am.
Andrea says
Count me in as another one checking to see if anyone ever won. I don’t see an announcement in the post or the comments and it’s been almost two months! The soaps I did order are almost out, could use some more! 😉
Katie says
I notify each winner also through email – so if you didn’t get an email from me (using the email address you left) then you probably aren’t the winner. Hopefully next time though! And also – the winner is announced at the end of the post – so it should be there at the very end.
Let me know if I left it out of any other giveaways so that I can be sure to list it!
