Have you met Cole?
Let me introduce you. Cole is my nephew. My youngest nephew. I’ve mentioned him before. Like here. and here. and here. And a dozen other times. And this past weekend, he exhibited pure and unpolluted joy. It was due to this:
Joy…Exhibit A:
Joy. Not just happiness, mind you. But joy. The exhuberant feeling that is usually only demonstrated by the lead female role in a musical after meeting the man of her dreams.
The thing about Cole is that he evokes that same lets-break-into-song emotion in me…
…you know…making a joyful noise…without having cold water squirt up my knickers.
Although a little squirt never hurt.
That’s what she said 🙂 Sorry…it’s been a while for the inappropriate humor and sometimes it just squirts out…that’s what she said again 🙂 Man, they just keep coming… ok…I am drawing the line.
Anyhoo….This past week I got to babysit Cole. I loved it but it was actually due to an unfortunate situation…while at a backyard bible club, Cole had jumped off a retaining wall onto some boards. Unfortunately, he had landed directly on some nails in the boards.
Obviously, he is doing just fine now:
Slip and slides heal just about everything.
As does this smile:
Now close your ears…I’m about to break into a rendition of Hakuna Matata. And yes, there will be interpretive dancing to go along with it.
Cole looks like a blast! he must be on Jeremy’s side, he looks like a mini version of him.
oh, and you literally had me cracking up at your ‘that’s what she said’ comment.
also, i love your inappropriate humor. 🙂 that’s the main reason i read your blog.

you should never apologize for your “inappropriate” humor!!! I LOVE IT… my hubby (best friend…boyfriend) is the same way… it makes me laugh all the time. Its a good thing. Its one of the things that makes me love your blog… one of the reasons I check in daily.
Lol! I had to read and re-read that ‘squirt’ comment.
I first thought ‘no, she didn’t really just write that, that’s totally a “that’s what she said “comment’.
The pictures are awesome. Your camera catches so much detail!
Do you watch The Office? I think I am detecting some office humor, but it could just be coincidence! And Christine is right, ‘thats what she said’ never gets old!!!!!

It actually is one of our favorite shows…and a ‘that’s what she said’ never gets old to me either 🙂

These are great shots! Out of curiosity, did you or your boyfriend take them?
And loved that you used the word knickers. In Southern speak, we usually say britches. But knickers is fun too 🙂

Actually, I took the photos. Jeremy claims to be still learning the camera 🙂

Katie these pictures of Cole are great! You really captured the joy and happiness that comes with being a little boy. Your photo skills are awesome!
Amazing pics! Can I ask what your camera settings were for the water shots? And what kind of processing did you use to get such phenomenal eye pop?!
I just got my first DSLR last week – a Nikon D90 – and I’m so excited!
Hi Krista D.,
Most of the shots were taken on manual mode. I used the 50mm lens which made it a little difficult to get the right focus but setting it on f/2.2 allowed me to snap Cole in action but blur out the background. Since it was sunny outside, the ISO was set on 200. And then I just adjusted the shutter speed (1/320) to expose the right amount of light and capture the little droplets of water. Also, I heavily edit with Photoshop. The eyes pop after applying The Pioneer Woman’s action for eyes and boost.
Hope this helps!
