I was talking to another mom this past week….ya know….shooting the breeze about how Bachelors in Paradise is so unrealistic. I mean…what they should do is Parents in Paradise and see who cries ONCE. And the fantasy suite? I don’t need one of those….I just want to sleep in and have someone feed me and not require me to clean food off the floor…like….ever. You know…life changing topics. So we were also talking about our favorite things when it comes to church clothes. She was all about the maxi dress and I was like….no way, I would give up maxi dresses forever if I could have pockets in all my skirts. In fact, if I could have six pockets in all my skirts, that would be amazing. It would probably fall off of me from sheer weight of objects in said pockets but you know…I’d totally be prepared. Half nude…but prepared.
I thought it should be known that moms everywhere need to have pockets in skirts. I didn’t think it was vital but now I am a firm believer in their unequivocal benefit to all humanity. Runny nose on a runny kid? Pocket napkin. A little chap feeling chapped? Pocket chapstick. ANYTHING BROKEN? Pocket duct tape. You get the point.
So here are some of my favorite pocketed picks that are on my watch list. All so cute and I tried to pick ones that realistically could be purchased….nothing that is a mortgage payment. See any favorites in the bunch? And I must know….what is your favorite ‘dressier’ clothing item? And what would you do in Paradise? 🙂

I’ve always loved how, if another woman compliments you on your dress or skirt and you tell her it has pockets, there will be an immediate exclamation and you both become exponentially more excited about your outfit.

The black and white stripes for sure! I’m with you…sleep in and have Jorge bring me a few drinks!

10×1000% agree!! I’m still looking for more yoga/lounge pants with multiple pockets too… Cause one of these days, my phone is gonna fall right out of my sports bra, into the bowl while I’m wiping a lil booty :/

A-line dresses with elastic waists, and pockets!
And in paradise I want to eat a meal after 7 pm, by candlelight, with loads of red wine, and take my time with multiple courses.
Amy says
Btw, you look amazing!! you are the most gorgeous mom of 4 boys I’ve ever seen
Candace says
Where is your skirt from? It’s adorable!!
Tiffany says
You are beautiful! LOVE the striped skirt you’re wearing. Where is that from?
Ann says
POCKETS IN SKIRTS ARE AN ABOMINATION!!!! NO, really. as a woman with large hips and rear, pockets in any skirts ( or pants, TBH) just ruin the line of my clothing. Thanks goodness my children are old enough that I don’t really bring much out anymore.
Enjoy your pockets! Maxi dress FTW!

Exactly. This. Every time.

Hey I have a big ole booty and hips (compared to my upper body, I seriously do have junk in my trunk) and I think it all depends on the type of clothing…material….and cut. There are times where I feel ya…but other times they don’t mess things up!

There’s a maxi dress from brass clothing (online only) that has pockets. It is also super flattering and soft. Check it out.
I would say 75% of my skirts and dresses had pockets. I wished my wedding dress had them.

From a Tennessee resident (go Vols!), I heard a contractor use this phrase the other day and I cannot WAIT until I can use it in conversation. Your post reminded me of it…
“That right there is handier than a pocket on a t-shirt!!”
Kayla AKA Kilo Bravo says
Yesss pockets on everything. I was so hyped when rompers became more prevalent at stores because they usually have pockets, and it’s an outfit in itself, and that is all I can really handle right now with 2 little boys! The less decisions to make the better if I’m trying to actually dress myself. I also find myself crawling around a lot so a romper (or shorts) is a little bit safer than me showing off my undies (can you tell I’m potty training? It’s like underwear got erased from my vocabulary). I’m going to search for that banana skirt though – it’s my favorite out of the bunch!

Um yes, maxi dresses do not work if you nurse. At all. Unless they are low cut which isn’t appropriate for the pastor’s wife to wear 😉
If I don’t have pockets I end up making a thousand trips back to the pew.

You should try the Amelia dress from Lularoe. Super cute and flattering with pockets as a bonus!

Where is the chambray/white skirt in the top photo from? It doesn’t seem to be linked to anywhere!

Love, love, love the “Just This Way” skirt in navy! At $50 it is still out of my price range, but it is within viewing distance!
I just had a rather unfortunate surgery for a rather unfortunate reason with a very unfortunate side effect so for right now I’m stuck in my two hugely oversized maxi skirts, neither of which have pockets (which is a crime, I NEED those pockets man!)
Ashley says
How HOW do you wear skirts with babies around? I always feel like I’m flashing everyone if I’ve got a skirt on. I’m always stooping, bending, or flat out crawling on the floor after my baby. I got the cutest little dress from target with pockets but I can never wear it! Any tips? Also love your site and love your look! xoxo

I don’t want to go to their version of paradise. Sleeping in, drinks on the beach, eating Pizza without listening to Josh moan….it’s all great, but I NEED some air conditioning! At least give me a bedroom with the nice cold air blasting on me because sleeping in a pool of sweat is not my idea of paradise.
Melissa says
Where is the blue and white striped skirt that you are wearing from?
Carly says
I simultaneously love and hate you, I could never actually hate you, for this post because I want ALL the skirts with pockets!!!!!!!!

Haha! Josh moans! Hahahahaha!

I usually only wear them for church and they are definitely a challenge at times with the little ones. I think my key is to carry a big purse and block any views 🙂

If you can sew; even just a little bit, you can add pockets to an existing skirt. You just need to make sure that it has room at the hip for them.

Pockets were a must for my wedding dress! It was the only thing I went in saying I had to have, lol!
