This month we celebrate a very special lady as she turns the big 3-0.

My mom.

Ok. ok. Maybe she isn’t younger than me but if you saw her dig in her garden or chase after her grandkids, you might question it.  She is one of those amazing amazing people…full of spunk and life and music and laughter and love.  Top it off with a bunch of gorgeous white hair and she might just be the musical and cuter human version of Mrs. Claus.  Plus, I am not allowed to reveal her age.  But this is a HUGE birthday this month and when Gemvara asked me if I wanted a personalized piece of jewelry…I knew…it had to be made for someone as special as her.

The entire process was really simple…I went online and picked out a ring that I thought she would love (it’s the Grace ring) and then worked on gems that would represent her.  September’s birthstone is a sapphire so they had two options – regular blue sapphires and then really pretty white sapphires.  Since her hair is white…the choice was obvious 🙂

I also used a green amethyst.  The amethyst is my birthstone and it is usually purple.  But Gemvara carries a pale green one too…since that is a little easier to wear on an everyday basis, I chose that one.  Once the mother-daughter ring was ready, it got shipped right to our house ready for my mom to open it.

Now let me tell you…this is a beautiful piece.  And my mom deserves much much more.  I mean…she labored with me and my siblings naturally.  And have you seen the size of my head?  Yeah…she deserves as much as I can give.  And I know that I was tempted to just keep this beautiful piece for myself…or just design something for my own use…but when I got it in the mail, I knew.  My mom would know that this gift is much more than pretty jewels…that it was the thought behind it…that it was a really small way of me saying I love you.

I only snapped this blurry photo but it is pretty spot on when it comes to how she reacted.  There was a nose wrinkle.  The one that I have.  The one that comes out when you are smiling REALLY big.
