Happy Thursday!
Will doesn’t have school today so we have a super quickie post because I gotta go break up a fight, wipe a nose or bottom and give someone a snack. Seriously…why didn’t any one tell me that when school is not in session, it’s complete chaos?! I think any deviation in the normal routine is suddenly like the world is exploding. So. Much. Noise. I am sure I will miss it one day but for now, let’s just blow through this post so that nobody gets wedged in a chair or stuck in an air conditioning vent or something crazy.
Today we are making a very fun little plant stand out of scrap wood! I had some plywood that I didn’t want to throw out and I decided to see what I could make from it. In our pile we had a few 2×2 sticks of lumber and so I grabbed a few more to make this really fun plant stand. I would recommend using it indoors but if you paint it with exterior paint or seal it well, consider it outdoor friendly too 🙂
The process is super duper simple. Cut 16 (or 8 if you only want 1 leg per side) of the 2×2’s at 15″ each. Cut your plywood (mine is 3/4″) to an octagon shape with 6″ sides. Then screw them all together leaving 1″ gap between the legs. I attached the legs to be four four inches higher than the top of the plywood so that it would secure the pot inside.
Attach and stain and enjoy! It was so simple but looks great. Isn’t it so fun? Scrappy wood for the win! And the stain is Rust-Oleum’s American Walnut….first time I have used this color and it’s so nice and warm and rich. It’s perfect for outdoor color because it makes greenery POP.
So that’s my little project….what have you guys been up to? Anyone? Anything? I want to get crafty soon. I asked Santa for craft clay last Christmas and have yet to break it out! Shame on me right?! Hopefully this weekend I can make some fun creations. I love these marbled bowls from A Beautiful Mess so maybe I’ll try that one.
And also….tonight is date night! Wahoo! I am super excited to have childcare for the big kids and get to go out to dinner with my main squeezer Jeremy the bearded wonder. We also will have a little stow-a-way….seriously….pray that the baby behaves, mmkay? Mommy wants to actually sit down on this date and use big words with Daddy 🙂 We have a serious agenda that we need to discuss….christmas presents. Yeah. Christmas is coming and I have a feeling that it is gonna feel like a train has hit us. We also have another serious item to talk about….family photos that we are getting taken this weekend. Yup. It will be the first time EVER that Jeremy and I have hired a photographer for family pictures and I am a little nervous. Any tips for not losing a kid or your mind during pictures? I have a feeling that Jeremy is gonna be REALLY excited to talk about these topics. Maybe I’ll throw him a bone and ask him what his back squat max is just so that he pays attention during the conversation 🙂 #crossfitaddictionisreal
Lastly…Amazon is having a big $5 magazine sale. Thought you would want to check it out — CLICK HERE (they make great teacher gifts!!!)
EDIT : Bwahahaha!!!! I already posted about this project once and literally forgot to move it to my “Done” folder so here it is once again! Talk about a open palm to forehead moment! I must be tired 🙂 forgive me mmkay and thank you for being that polite friend that is letting me retell you the same story twice 🙂

Am I losing my mind (very possible) or have you already showed us this project? Don’t get me wrong, love it, but I think we’ve seen it already. Blame it on the mom brain 🙂
Sarah @ onesuchlife says
Hey, Katie. I think we’ve seen this before during a Rustoleum post?
Katie says
Um, didn’t you already post this back in June? https://www.bowerpowerblog.com/2015/06/modern-plant-stand/
Heather says
You already posted this project in June…with the same pictures.
Lauren says
Just a friendly FYI – you posted this in June. It looks like that too was a rough day/time, so totally an understandable oversight, but you might want to add a note to that effect so people like me don’t think they’re going crazy wondering why the project looks so familiar! ;o)
Kay says
Interesting idea but you posted the exact same thing earlier this year.

Happy Thursday to you too!
I’m over 10 years removed from a LOUD HOUSE, and I still don’t miss it. Ha.

For your family pictures – seriously go in with absolutely no expectations! My first time I was so stressed wanting to get good shots, that I forgot to actually have fun. So in the pictures I looked like a crazy stress ball and my kids/husband were smiley and great. In the end the pictures you get are always awesome because they are of YOUR family, so no matter if everyone is looking, or drool/food is on a shirt or shoes are untied, in the end it doesn’t matter. Have a ball on Date night!
Carly says
My only advice is to try not to direct the kids a whole lot. I feel like they listen better when the photographer takes over that role. Other than that just try to have fun.
Jessica says
Didn’t we see this project a few months ago?
Heather S says
I think you already posted this project back in summer.
Allyson says
Have I lost my mind or haven’t you already posted this before? #mommybrainisarealthing

Pete and Repeat were in a boat.
Pete fell out. Who was left?

Katie – this looks so familiar, you posted this post before…..
https://www.bowerpowerblog.com/2015/06/modern-plant-stand/
I love your blog so much, please remember that not posting is better than duplicating posts just to post something…I would hate for you to burn out and alienate your readers like YHL…….
Another thing, please think long and hard before you delete this or choose not to publish this comment……..To open up your life like you do but filter people’s reactions to it seems so unfair………you’ve said this is your job, please treat it as such…..disagreeing wth you is not attacking you….I just don’t think you should be reusing posts – it’s lame for a blog…..
kristen says
pretty sure you already posted this project?
Mary says
Bring a helper on the photo shoot since you have small kiddos!! It will help in case of meltdowns and will also help get their attention to smile.
laura says
I thought this looked really familiar so I did a quick search on your blog…you showed us this little gem on June 12th. 🙂 Looks cute and easy!
Katie says
Oh my gosh so embarrassing! I must have mommy brain for sure!

Katie says
Haha! It was an honest mistake…just forgot to move the photo folder to DONE and so I rewrote an entire project :/ I think I will just chalk it up to mommy brain and too many projects going at once – I don’t know what is posted and what isn’t! Guess my system isn’t foolproof!

Katie, I forgive you! I don’t normally wade into the comments but I saw you were getting some serious flak from a simple mistake. No worries, eh mistakes happen and as a new mom of twins I totally get the mom brain thing. Just want to send the love from a faithful reader who loves to ‘hear’ your voice during those marathon pumping sessions. Good luck during your photos. I’m sure they will turn out gorg!
Jenn says
FWIW, I like the way you wrote this post better 🙂
Hang in there, mommy!
Skye says
What’s worse…a person with a million things going on at once repeating a post or a dozen people breaking their necks to point it out after it was already addressed? My vote is for the latter, because that took a certain amount of conscious effort. The former was a simple oversight. Big whoop. Hope you don’t sweat it, Katie.
meghan says
Hahahahaha. I was so confused!! Love the project (both times 😉 ). Yay date night!!
Sam says
Ha, I can’t believe how worked up people are getting!
AND, I didn’t see this project before, so it was new to me!
Love you Katie, keep on keeping on.

Family picture suggestion. …smarties! Yes, as in the candy. Best bribery because it doesn’t leave candy evidence on little hands or faces. Our go to for smile and sitting still “encouragment” 🙂
Heather S says
Skye – While it looks like people keep pointing out the mistake, I think what happened (at least in my case), was that when I went to post a comment on here there were no comments on the post. So once it was moderated, it showed my post along with a bunch of other posts saying the same thing. Many readers did not see the other posts.

As a photographer I always tell parents to make sure they look and smile and not worry too much about their kids – that’s my job. But we had pictures taken and it’s soo much harder than it sounds! My neck is squished funny in a lot of them and my shoulders hunched etc. I know better but was too concerned about my toddler to remember! Good luck!!
Dani @ Danielle and Co. says
I hope date night went well! 🙂 My husband says I tell the same story over and over again… who can keep track of everything? It is a cute planter stand – I like that the height could be adjustable depending on needs!
Katie says
Ooh I have a ton of leftover Halloween ones!

Mommy brain is real folks! I don’t post often, but you are my favorite. Hope you are feeling recharged after date night.
Molly Miller says
Perfect! Our kiddos now love family pictures because they know it means candy… whatever works, right? 🙂
Rose says
I love the plant stand – the more the merrier! Good luck with family pictures!
Jennifer says
Just another reason to love you! You’re so real and easy to relate to 🙂
