Okay, so if you have run into me at any point in the last three weeks, I have already told you about this site.
BUT I AM ADDICTED AND CAN’T STOP WON’T STOP.
Seriously. I am sold on this online site and I know that by the end of this post, you will be drafting your thank you note to me. As you know, I am a mom. My body has changed. My kids are constantly changing…aka…growing. And we are always trying to save money where we can. I never turn down a box of clothing from friends and most of my clothing is from 2003. I wish I were kidding. But I really WANT to look cute….and of course I want my kids to look cute too. I mean – they ARE but this is the only era of life where I get to pick out their clothing so I work it.
Then thredUP came into my life.
And now I can’t stop talking about it. If you have ears, get ready.
So thredUp is basically an online consignment boutique. I say boutique because everything is high quality and name brand items in great condition….everything I love but rarely buy because the prices are so high. It has brands for kids and women and they are everything from Madewell to Baby Gap to Kate Spade to H&M.
I went online with a plan and a budget ($200 for one item for each boy, a top or two and a pair of skinny jeans and one nursing friendly dress for a wedding) and you are seriously gonna flip when you see everything I got. So I found a TON of stuff, got a huge discount, and then a few days later, a big box arrived at our door….
When we opened it up, the entire thing was so nice – think special packages with clothing wrapped in tissue paper and everything is beautifully folded.
Each item also has a tag – which I definitely think there is a psychology to the tag. It made everything feel so new…even though a few items were pre-owned. I say ‘few items’ because a lot of my things were still tagged with the original pricetag from the store!!! Ripping off that thredUP tag made even the secondhand items feel like they were straight from the store.
(this Gap tee was $20 retail – I paid $4)
So once we unveiled the things…of course the boys couldn’t wait to get their hands on their items! They were like seagulls begging for Nemo….MINE MINE MINE! I actually was able to get each boy a whole outfit and lots of other stuff! Check out my little modeling men working it…
We couldn’t let this be a gun show…so we also scored a sweatshirt for Maxi Knight 🙂
Not to mention….TWO super nice coats for Weston too!
This fur lined hoodie coat is from Gap….where coats like that are usually $80. I know. I looked. And I got it for $9 after the 40% discount! NINE DOLLARS. That my friends is less than the Baconator at Wendys. I got a name brand coat for less than a sandwich. Think about that the next time you are in drive thru.
Speaking of food…prepare for the ‘ham sandwich’ (that’s what we call it when Weston hams it up for the camera)….
Other things to think about – you could take your clothing to Goodwill….OR you could sell it on ThredUp and get a little spending money 🙂 All you do is order a Clean Out Bag and fill it with the thing you no longer want (see their site to see guidelines!) and place it in your front door for pickup. It’s really that easy. I have a bunch of ‘office’ wear that is name brand that I don’t use and have been meaning to drop off but it would be nice to be able to trade it in for credit! I think getting the boys some cute things would be an awesome trade off!
Now for you mama’s who are in the same fashion boat as me….I got a ton of new stuff. 16 items to be exact. And in order for you to understand my excitement….I decided to put together eight outfits with things I got! Yup….it’s like a mini fashion show with a 35 year old size 10 model wearing the clothes….not exactly like NY fashion week but the clothes are fabulous.
#1 – This pink dress was a risky choice but I paired it with black opaque tights and a black tank and booties and it was PERFECT for a recent rehearsal dinner. I could nurse in it easily and I still felt so pretty.
#2 – I love sequins but I have a hard time finding a way to wear them. This black sequin $8 JCrew tank is casual and dressy at the same time. I’m totally wearing this on the next date night!
#3 – I usually avoid orange like the plague but this sweater seemed like a super cozy option that I could throw on for ‘mom-wear’. I was right….and it’s nursing friendly!
#4 – This $9 Ann Taylor navy blue sweater! It’s so flattering and I love the back detail that covers up the rump! I paired it with these J Crew toothpick pink jeans ($11) and I feel like that mom that is super pulled together.
#5 – Who’s ready for summer? THIS GIRL. I love a mini dress with pockets (it’s Abercrombie and was $8) and I fully plan on wearing this to some exotic location…like the pool 🙂
#6 – Another warm weather dress (American Eagle $8) and it buttons down the front! Perfect for nursing at church!
#7 – My uniform. This is it people. A drapey boob-friendly top and jeans with boots. No fuss, no muss. The ‘dress’ from H&M was only $9.
#8 – This is probably gonna be one of those tops I wear all summer long. It’s light weight and adds some color and texture to my life. Ann Taylor $4
I would show you all the things I got but then you would be crazy jealous and not have any time for shopping. And really – that is what we all need to be doing right now. Shopping. The first 100 readers to use the code : BP40 will get 40% off their order (up to $50). Valid for first time shoppers only. CLICK HERE.
Happy saving you guys. Go ahead and send in those thank you notes. Make sure to use correct grammar 🙂
p.s. yes, I did get a Madewell dress for the wedding! It was only $18 – down from $150 – WAHOO!

I discovered thredUp a few months ago while looking for reasonably priced maternity clothes and I LOVE it! Such nice stuff for such good prices, 90% of my maternity wardrobe is from them.

TWINS! I have that peach and white striped LOFT top and I LOVE it. I bought it (on clearance – but not $4 clearance) to wear in the Bahamas on my honeymoon two years ago, and since it’s so billowy it’s currently been working as a second trimester maternity shirt 🙂
I really appreciate your clothing posts and have been taking a lot of mental notes on “breastfeeding at church” outfits since that’s about to become my future.

Wish I had known about this earlier in my pregnancy! I’m going to look into sending them my maternity clothes to trade for some nursing friendly tops. Thanks for sharing this resource!
Dani @ Danielle and Co. says
Madewell for only $18?! That’s awesome.
Alicia says
Can you tell me more about shipping and returns? I know stitch fix makes it easy to return things with prepaid postage, but sometimes shipping costs can cut into your refund. I would love to know more!
Rachael @ Catch Me if You Can says
i seriously cannot believe how little money you spent on all those clothes! i am constantly taking clothes i dont wear to goodwill (hello tax deduction) but maybe i should start doing this! love your outfits you are too cute 🙂
Amanda says
Thank you for the additional discount. That was fairly awesome!
Kelly says

What brand are those brown leather booties and skinny jeans you are wearing? Love them both!
Kerby says
Do you know if they ship to Canada? I can’t seem to find anything on their site.
Katie P says
What are you wearing under the navy shirt in #4? I have a white silky top with the same back cut and would love to wear something underneath to dress it down. Help!
Gretchen says
I love it all! I just got my first shipment this week too and I’m hooked. Six pairs of capris for spring and summer for $40.
Evelina says
I can’t believe these prices!!! Insane. The boys’ clothes are amazing and I’m totally in love with your #1 and #4 outfits!
Jill Settle says
Just placed my order! Thank you for the discount:) Love your blog!!!

I like thred up but my last clean out bag only got me $26. I had multiple Matilda Jane $$ outfits from my daughter that were only worn for pictures and a pair of pilcro jeans that were new with tags and my bag was completely full. I usually get pretty good credits but this time the credit was terrible. Just a warning, you probably would get more money selling your stuff on eBay if you have the time.

Katie! Thank you so much for sharing this and the code. I just got a new job and was in need of some new work clothes. Thanks to this, I was able to get THREE dresses from Loft, a pea coat, two blouses, a pair of Gap jeans and a sweater for just $98!!!! Unreal. Love all your finds and I’m so glad you told us about it.
Pam says
Your outfits all look adorable! I especially love the Ann Taylor blue sweater with the pink jeans. I was just curious, where are your boots from in Picture # 7? I’ve been looking all over for boots just like them!
Thanks so much!

I wish you had posted this sooner, as I JUST dropped off a huge box of clothes – many of which are name brand and fairly new. I still have a bit to go for my closet clean-out though, so I went ahead and ordered a Clean Out Bag. I contemplated selling on Poshmark but it seems like a lot of work and there’s no guarantee how soon your items are going to sell and therefore you could be stuck with your clothes for a while. This site is genius! I don’t expect to get much from my items but with such little effort – it seems worthwhile. Thanks for the recommendation!
Tiffany says
You look adorable! Thank you for the promo code! Just ordered a dress that I actually returned to the Loft this winter because it was too much $$$. Got it for $15 new with tags!!! I may be hooked…
Kelly says
I just tried this and used the code! It made an already great find even greater. Thank you!
Jenni says
I love ThredUp but am sad that they only ever offer discounts to first-time users. I am hard-pressed to find high-quality clothes there at the prices you did. I did go get a great Anthro dress for only $30, though. We all know Anthro dresses are usually over $100.
You look super cute! Thanks for modeling clothes for a normal-sized woman and being honest about it! Most lifestyle bloggers are TINY for one reason or another. I love their style but can’t pull off what they wear. You are closer to my size and gave me some great outfit inspiration.
Katie says
Well, I know that you can do a referral and you can earn credit on their site that way! Maybe look into that!

I have decided I am not trendy at all! Ha! I looked thinking I would find stuff I liked but then I realized I did not even know most of the brands. Oh well 🙂 Glad it is there for those of you who dress nice…
Katie says
It definitely helped me to search the brands I did know and loved.
