A few of you asked about the runner-turned-rug that I had made for Weston’s room and why it went MIA in the reveal post.
Well, it was black. And the walls were gray and white and the furniture was a gray-brown, brown, and white. It was a whole lot of darkness….a little too much for my little ray of sunshine’s room. It did get some good action – a little over five months – which in boy-toddler world translates into about a year of wear and tear. And it survived…which is great because we have plans for it in the future.
But the floor is left bare. Like a baboon’s blazing red bottom. What a show-off.
The rest of the room has red and green and yellow accents….little splashes of the color here and there. So it would be easy to pick out a nonblack rug because every other color would go.
I think that a rug is still important in here because the boys are still really rough on well, everything. We only have the bedrooms carpeted so that makes it a little easier and less expensive because we can get those deals on carpet cleaning but so far, we have yet to have these carpets cleaned (mom, remind me to get the number for your Zerorez guy from you). But even with carpet cleaning, it’s better to protect the more permanent fixtures than to just treat after the fact, right?
I did a little photoshopping and dreaming about what rug we should get for in here. They are all different…and all not black….and all give the room a different feel.
Let’s review the ones I picked (and if you have a suggestion, I would love to hear it in the comments because I am not 100% committed to any single one of them).
First comes the red medallion rug from RugsUSA – $231 for an 8×11. I like that it’s a punch in the face. Not many things do that…punch you right in the nose but this one does in a fun way…you know…if a swift jab to the noggin is fun.
This ikat rug from Pottery Barn kids is nice. $549 for an 8×10 so it is one of the most pricey of the ones I show….but I like the fact that it’s subtle while still has a bit of pattern.
The gold bars rug from The Land of Nod is the first one that I saw that I thought would work. It does run steep at $800 for the 8×10…but I could order the swatch and have that sent to my house (that saves me tons of time and at least two screaming hissy fits if I avoid the drive all the way into town).
Here comes a wild card – the TASTRUP rug from Ikea. It’s only $40 for 4’4″x6’5″ size so the scale in the picture is way off but I think it could still be cute. It’s definitely whimsical…maybe a little TOO much for this space but I see how a rainbow of colors could look cute in the right scale and depth of color.
Last but not least we have the Urban Outfitters Magical Thinking Chevron rug. The name alone could sell me on this sucker. It’s $199 for the 8×10 so the price is great. I don’t know about the dark color though. It also comes in red (but they call it pink online…so again…unsure).
So tell me, which one would you choose? Or do you have something completely different in mind for this space. Granted – the tapestry art above the crib could change at any time…I’m crazy fickle like that…but in general, I’d love for the rug to play nice with everything else. So what say you my fine redneck friends? Which one do you like best?
Carrie K says
#2 Sleek gray.
Lara says
Red is my go-to color for punch, but I like the UrbanOutfitter grey rug best in the space. His room is amazing & I’ve been thinking about adding faux brick somewhere in my house!
Leslie says
I like the ones from Ikea and Urban Outfitters. Good luck!
Janet St. says
If you haven’t explored the zillions of options available from Flor.com, give it a look. They also have stores in larger cities.
I just installed Flor carpet squares in my office and I am thrilled. The squares come in every possible color combination and texture and if there is ever a spill you can take up the stained square and scrub it in the sink and dry it and set it back in place, perfect for a child’s room (or anywhere really). The 20″ squares are held firmly together one to the other and not adhered in any way to your carpet so you don’t have to worry about damaging your wall to wall carpet.
No, I don’t work for Flor, I am just amazed at how happy I am with the product and how easy the installation went. Oh, there is a sale on right now with 25% off and they always have free shipping to your home. They will also refund your money on any Flor squares you don’t use after your project is complete.
Kelly says
The orange or the buttons. The gray and red I think play UP the Christmas in the notsochristmas art. The chevron seems more “you” if you want to use it for something else later!
Adrianne D says
I love the gold bars from Land of Nod (but hate the price tag). It plays off the wall hanging nicely.
Nicole says
I like both grey options but I think it makes the room a little overwhelmingly grey. Too much grey on grey on grey if you ask me. I think the red is my favorite. I like the yellow option as well but that’s a lot of mooolahhh for a kids room where you just said they tend to be rough on stuff. just my two cents……….
sb says
I like yellow the best. Red make the room look like a Christmas theme.
Liz S. says
Initially I liked the yellow because the shape mimicked the mountains on the wall hanging, but it’s so bright that maybe it would seem unbalanced…? I think my winner is the Urban Outfitters one (which also mimics the mountains!)…plus you can use it somewhere else in the house, unlike the Ikea button rug…Have fun!
Trela says
Red. Definitely. It just makes the room pop. Ok, the yellow is a close second, but only because it picks up the color in the wall hanging and your numbers. My hesitation then is BECAUSE it matches the wall hanging and the numbers — we all like to change up the wall decor more often than the floors, so I’d hate to see you stuck with a rug that no longer “goes.” Plus I worry the yellow might show more wear and tear (well, really the color WITH the yellow as much as the yellow itself).
Molly says
LOVE THE RED!!!! LOVE THE RED!!! LOVE THE RED!!!!
Oh my goodness, it makes the room.
Second choice: the gray and white IKAT from Pottery Barn Kids…..but, I really do
LOVE THE RED!!!
Dana says
Love that red one!! The gold bar one is a close second.
Christy says
The last rug caught my eye immediately, I like the bigger pattern and the grey color to balance out the room decorations! And if the price is right… 🙂 Could you see yourself using the rug elsewhere? That would be a big consideration for me!
Megan says
#2!
Samantha says
Love that Pottery Barn rug!
Lacey says
I’m digging the gold bars. Don’t you hate when you like the most expensive one the most?
Laura says
I’m liking the red. Go bold!
Stephanie says
Gold first and red a close second. But I like all of them in the end, depending on the look you’re going for.
Cat @ MaryMarthaMama says
I would go with #1 or #2, but I would only go with #2 if you change out the tapestry above the crib. If you left it there I think they would compete too much.
Cat @ MaryMarthaMama says
eek, I messed that up. I meant only go with #1 if you change out the tapestry. Sorry! Long day.
Laura Clark says
I like the punch in the face. It brightens up the room and softens it in a way that makes it less adolescent, but yet not too feminine.
SydneyB says
I’m voting for a fun educational rug. I know a lot of them are cheesy but they are big and colorful. Or a rug of long artificial grass. I saw one at the local plant store and now I’m dying to put one in my son’s room.
Alison says
My vote(s) are either the gold bars from Land Of Nod or the grey Ikat from PB. 🙂
Lindsey says
I like the gold bars rug best…it’s such a fun color, and I like how it echoes the angles in the hanging above the crib.
Dawn says
I like the gold rug! (They are all beautiful, though!)
Brittany says
The buttons! Or the gold, or the light grey…but oh the buttons!!
Meghan says
I like the last 2!
Amanda L says
I think my fav is the pottery barn one. (Sorry wallet!) Also like the Urban Outfitters one. Really dislike the button one!!!
Beth says
The goldish yellow is my favorite, but the ikea rug is a close second. I think the ikea rug is a touch feminine for some reason?? If I were picking for my sons room,Id first see if I could find something similar to the land of nod rug but at a better price and if that didnt work, id look for something similar to the ikea rug but maybe just circles instead of buttons. :-). Sorry for the crappy punctuation.
Carrie Jo says
#2!!!! I love that Pottery Barn Kids rug. I’ve been scoping it out myself for my son’s big boy room, and I think it’d look great in Weston’s room, too. You have so many cute pops of color all around the room – I think a grey rug would be perfect. Plus, patterns like that wear like iron so you won’t have to worry as much about little boy stains everywhere. I’d LOVE to get the PBK Chevron wool rug, but I don’t trust my boy with that much white. 🙂
Ginger says
I love the red rug! My second vote goes to the urban oufitters grey rug though.
Jackie says
I like the last two options – I definitely think you should go for the cheaper options. Either the red or grey anthro rug or the ikea buttons. I personally think the ikea buttons would be the cutest.
Jenn says
Completely ignoring price, the Land of Nod was my favorite when I first scrolled through this post but after seeing the price, I’m not sure. Design wise definitely the LoN rug…considering price I actually think I would go with the RugsUSA option. Both options are bold in different ways and I like it for the space!
Maggie says
I love the yellow chevronish- but this could be a great opportunity for a diy stencil/painted option! Are you still sponsored by frogtape?
Lydia Knight says
I vote for the Ikea rug. The colorful buttons are perfect for a little boy’s room! And the price is right considering the wear and tear. Save the more expensive ones for later.
Dina says
I think the RugsUSA or the Urban Outfitters rug. Those two are my favorite and I like that both patterns could easily be used in another room down the road.
Lesley says
I normally like bright pops of color but for some reason in this space I like the 2nd rug. It has pattern so it isn’t boring but it is subtle enough that my eyes are still drawn to the other pops of color in the room. The other rugs distract me away from the accessories. I like that with the 2nd rug you could always change out the accessories if you suddenly changed your mind and wanted a different focal color
Kristen says
I LOVE the yellow rug! Pop of color that isn’t too in your face but adds such drama!
Lynne Wesenberg says
I like either the red-punch-in-the-face or the last grey one. Those are my picks for this room!!!
Jennie says
Either of the gray ones. I like the cheaper gray one better, but the ikat from PBK would be the second choice 😉
Courtney says
I covered the tapestry while looking so I wasn’t swayed by its color since you may change it up. I like both the grays and the gold bar ones best!!! Happy shopping!!
Erin Bremser says
I like the Land of Nod one and the IKEA one. The yellow looks good & adds to the room.
Susan says
I really liked the last one. It doesn’t compete or overpower the décor. I don’t think you will be limited as to the décor you choose through the years.
Lauren says
I vote for the last one from Urban Outfitters! I think it goes perfectly in the space… and the price is right for a rough and tumble toddler room 🙂
AJ says
I was immediately drawn to the photoshopped image with the gold bars Land of Nod rug, but that price, ouch! Maybe find a similar pattern/color for cheaper. All lovely choices, but I’d skip a grey rug and go straight for color!
Sandra says
I like the yellow. Too much gray in the others, and the dominance of red and green is very december-y. The yellow goes and shakes up that holiday vibe.
Elizabeth Dale says
Maybe I like my whimsy too much (my boys have a superhero city mural I painted on their wall) but I love the Tastrup rug! It drew my eye and it seems so fun. My second favorite is the Magical Thinking Chevron rug – it’s soothing.
Renee says
I vote for 2 or 5.
Kerrie says
I’d probably go with either of the grey rugs. Safer colour choices but I think they make the room a little more of a ‘boys’ room. Also, it will likely go with any changes you make and will hopefully hide wear and tear for a bit longer. Cheers
Beth says
Love both of the grey rugs, so for the price the Urban Outfitters one gets my vote!!
Amanda says
I’m digging the second one. It is something that will grow with him, and can be paired with many different color schemes… for those crazy fickle moms out there:)
Kami Buchanan says
Love the red! The Gold one is Awesome, but it’s too pricey! I vote 1 or 2 or some sort of grey with Navy.
Desiree says
#2 for sure! The others aren’t even close.
Amanda says
I vote for the Urban Outfitters one! I think it makes the rest of the room pop more. If I get a veto I would have to use it for the IKEA one- playful and fun, but just reads feminine to me.
Kristen H says
I know this one is a little ‘out there’ but have you seen this rug at Target?
http://m.target.com/p/mohawk-home-union-jack-area-rug/-/A-14624061
Vanessa@CornbreadContessa says
I LOVED the Urban Outfiitters Magical Thinking rug even before I read the price breakdown {but now I want to marry it and have its babies}. The other rugs are happy and fun but to me, they actually distract from the happy and fun room details like the wall art.
lauren says
I lOVE #2! I really dislike the Ikea one… too much to look at
Kelly says
Red medallion or the urban outfitters one. I do enjoy the gold rug a lot but $800 for a child’s rug is a bit excessive.
Monique says
It’s tempting to go with something with a good design and style, but at the end of the day it’s a child’s room, a place for fun and a place for them. I think if you look in the eyes of the child the buttons rug is a winner. Plus for the price you won’t be peeved if the little ones destroy it and easily replaceable as the room evolves.
Caroline says
My first choice was #3. But PLEASE don’t spend $800 on a rug that will be pooped and puked on.
So my second choice was #1. I think the red is PERFECT and draws the eye to the wall with trees (which by the way looks TOTALLY awesome all year). It’s like woodsy, aspen, colorado all year. Amazing. Gives the texture you want and the color that bare hiney needs!
Brenda says
I really like #2, the light gray one. I also like the yellow. And for some reason a bold blue popped into my head, but given that there aren’t other blues in the room right now that could look crazy. It probably popped into my head because it’s a primary color and would balance the others, but that doesn’t mean it would actually match. Anyway, I think the dark gray is too dark, and the red one isn’t grabbing me.
Kim says
Love your choices! Your first choice made me think of the Malples Fretwork rug at Target. It’s on sale right now and comes in a bunch if colors. I just bought one and its really soft for an inexpensive rug. Also comes in 7×10.
http://www.target.com/p/maples-fretwork-area-rug/-/A-14625597#prodSlot=medium_1_1&term=décor%20deals
Diana says
I love the gold bars LON one…minus the price tag. This one from UO in mustard looks similar and $199 for 8×10 http://m.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/m/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=24099624
Erin says
Land of Nod rug is TO DIE FOR… but for the price I’m with you it would be hard to swallow. Especially with how hard kids are no rugs.
My second choice is that pottery barn one – but I think the urban outfitters one gives the same feel for less money. And you could buy weston some fun toy with the leftover cash and he’d really be happy with the rug choice then! 🙂
Nayla says
I like the LON one. I do like the Urban Outfitters one for a really close second and for the difference in $$$ in a toddler room; that’s the way I’d go.
SJ says
LOVE the last one…the gray chevron rug. Not too overpowering and has a playful yet masculine feel to it. Also versatile enough to grow with him and any changes you make to the room.
Tara says
LOVING either the first (red), middle (yellow) or last (darker gray) ones! The multi-colored one is too much with everything else going on and the lighter gray it okay but doesn’t really seem to hold it’s own… 🙂
Ali says
I LOVE the gray ones (light gray the most) but I think if you love the yellow chevron rug you could totally DIY one by painting a woven rug from IKEA! Probably could DIY the red one as well but the price isn’t too bad so it may not be worth it.
Kelly says
I vote for the last one. the larger scale looks nice and adds some visual interest while not slapping you in the face. Can’t wait to see what one you choose Katie!
Jessie says
I really, really dislike the Ikea rug. Like, it’s poison to my eyes. The red is too loud and takes over the room. The LON rug is cute, but seems busy with all you have going on, and the PB rug is too muted. I guess it’s the UO rug by default. I really, really like the UO rug, but I worry about it’s quality. I haven’t yet seen a rug from UO that was worth the price tag. Do you have other options?
Carrie C says
The gold Land of Nod rug is killer! But with that price tag I would walk away. I like the look of a red rug but the Moroccan pattern is too feminine for my tastes. Such a tough decision!
Amy says
I think the red or the final gray choice. Have you considered something with green in it?
Diana says
There’s also this one from Rugs USA but largest is 5×8
http://m.rugsusa.com/158FAL1052-P.html
Charlotte says
That gold looks amazing… I vote Land of Nod. Does your ikea carry this one: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10229035/
Same medallion of the first one, but the gold that looks so nice in the space! Good luck!
Lora S. says
I vote for the red rug. I an in the ATL are too and my Walmart, the Tucker one had some. 5×7. Bright chevron area rugs. I want to say they were on clearance then were an additional 50% off. I’m actually planning to go there tomorrow so, I can take a peek and see what they have left.
Katy says
I love the red one. Plus it’s kinda middle of the road price wise.
Rhonda says
I like the red one! Yellow is runner up
Whitney Dupuis says
I love both the red and the yellow, buy if I had to choose I would go with yellow. Something about it screams playful, but can still grow to sophisticated in an instant.
Liz says
1. Red
2. Gold
3. Grey (light)
Ortega says
#2 grey is the best. It’s more cohesive with the color scheme. Conducive to a relaxing atmosphere. If this was a playroom, I’d go with one of the bright rug
AJ says
First or last. I like the red a bit better, but the grey is much easier to move around at a later time.
Ortega says
The pattern on the red rug is over scale. The scale of the 2nd rug PB grey rug and color is best for this room. The other bright rugs will be good for a playroom
Phoebe K says
I like the Urban Outfitters rug, especially the value! It looks high end and neutral and wonderful.
Lisa Guimond says
Magical thinking is my favorite and it’s a great price.
Toni says
One of the reviews on UO says the pink rug is more of a poppy red….just sayin 🙂
Brittany says
I LOVE the ikea grey rug. It’s subtle but not boring. And you can use it pretty much anywhere else if you decide to change things up in here (although since it’s pretty neutral it’d go with anything!) 🙂 Good luck!
Elizabeth says
Having paid $800 for a rug that my children (ages 4 and 2) destroyed in less than a year, I gotta go with the urban outfitters or ikea because it won’t hurt as much when they destroy it! Plus I like it the best!
Catherine says
I love the gold bars one – I am sure you could find a cheaper one in that colour though.
Jessica Moroney says
No. 5 was my obvious first choice. But after considering it for a while, I also warmed to the red option (although if the test picture included the giant W or the red striped lamp shade would it be too much red?) or the yellow option, although I would keep searching for a more subtle yellow pattern…hmm, hard decision! I know you’ll pick the best though! x
Andrea Sandifer says
I vote you DIY a cheaper version of the gold bars. I love the yellow with the gray – it’s nice and bright.
Megan C. says
What about the SDOS rug from CB2. It has red, yellow, blue, and gray. Plus it’s a square! http://www.cb2.com/all-rugs/rugs/sdos-rug/f9620
Karen says
Have you seen this one from Ikea?? I didn’t love it online but it seriously makes my living room. Love it and not a bad price for the size.
http://m.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/art/50168285/
Brittnia says
I love the red one!
Megan says
#1 or #5!
Skye says
I’m voting for the face punching RED!
Elizabeth says
Urban Outfitters! Doesn’t look too dark in your Photoshopped room.
Kitty says
Número Uno, for sure!
Megan says
The ikat rug! It’s a great pattern and doesn’t take away from all the hard work on the wall you did. And it things change in the room it looks like it would be transferable to other rooms in your house like your master bedroom and still look great!
Barking Baby Mama says
Red and the gold bars are my favorite! I also like the gray Urban Outfitters rug! 3 great options for sure!
Maria says
I like the red or gold rug. Also, these rugs from Overstock may be fun choices as well:

Chris says
Absolutely love the red. Way more than the others.
nikki@nikkisnacs says
I would choose #5. I like the price, the color and pattern are interesting but still neutral.
Amanda says
I like option #1 or #5….I think it works well with the art and the furniture you got going on even if you remove the banner. #5 is more the neutral though so you could still use it when you want to switch anything up.
Jeanna says
#1 or #5 🙂
Ashley says
Love the last one!
Traci says
I’ve looked at this a couple times and I really think I like #2 the best, but a previous commenter is right…if the kids are going to possibly mess it up eventually….the $199 urban outfitter one is going to sting a lot less.
Flo says
I love the buttons 🙂
Kati says
The #2 light grey ikat rug from Pottery Barn–it’s the best by far. It goes so well with the fixed elements: the brick wall, the wall paint, the carpet, and the furniture–it really ties the room together (couldn’t resist!).
The Urban Outfitters Magical Thinking rug is too dark. The red medallion and gold bars rugs match the wall hanging rather than the fixed elements–so why get the rug to match the wall hanging when that could change? And the red rug overpowers the other red accents in the room like the curtains and I think it will look dirty more easily. The Ikea button rug is too busy and feminine.
The ikat rug from Pottery Barn really goes so well with the two walls and the furniture, and it’s the rug that looks best with the carpet–I think it’s the best choice! I also think it will stay clean-looking the longest! Also, it doesn’t steal the focus from all the special, colorful accessories.
My second choice–but it’s a distant second–is the gold bars rug. It doesn’t look that great with the carpet and the walls, but it plays off the colorful accessories in a friendlier way than the red rug. However, with the gold rug, as with the red rug, your eyes go down and you notice the rug first thing and then, much later, the other elements in the room. With the light grey ikat, your eyes go first to the colorful accessories. Your eyes look up first. And if you ever change the accessories, the light grey ikat rug will still look great.
However, go with your gut! Your gut choice will probably bring you the most enjoyment!
Shay says
If you took out your black rug to lighten up the space then I’d avoid gray rugs – the walls and the chair already add plenty of it.
My favorite is the golden rug from Land of Nod, but the price tag doesn’t seem kid friendly. Maybe this Urban Outfitters one could be an alternative?
http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=24099624
I personally feel like adding that much more red might seem to bring the room into a bit of x-mas land, which is one reason I love the yellow so much. It looks more inclusive.
Something else with color, but not an overly pushy pattern:
http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-usa-diamonds-cotton-trellis-flatwoven/ming-yellow/200HMCO5A-P.html
Tasha says
Defo the multi coloured ikea button one! It’s is a kids room after all, you need rainbow colours and whimsy, he’s a little kid, make it a fun magical place. Chevrons and patterns can be saved for when he’s older 🙂
Sharmila says
I love your blog & i love the ikea rug. Just the right amount of whimsy for such a neutral room. And at $40 when the kids trash it, it won’t be a huge deal.
Meredith says
I think I would go for the red rug. It’s a lovely pop of color that plays off of the pillow and the “W.” I’m a fan of bolder choices. My son has a light greenish blue room and on a whim I bought an orange keekaroo diaper changer and I loved the colors together so much that I bought an orange shag rug for his room!!
Kd says
I liked the Urban Outfitters before I saw the price… now I’m in love!
Sara says
I like the red one, it pulls the red color from the wall hanging. However, I can see the button rug being so much fun to play on, stand on the yellow button or counting how many buttons and how many buttons are a certain color.
Gina says
I love the urban outfitters one. The gold bars one is great as well but in a DIY version.
Julie says
I vote to find a cheaper yellow/gold! I think the red could go a little Christmassy in person…which is not nessarily a bad thing but maybe not in the nursery 🙂
Connie says
I vote the red one but here is another option at a great price and lots of colors:
http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/nuLOOM-Handmade-Alexa-Chevron-Wool-Rug-5-x-8/6237730/product.html?refccid=RSMIGIO7OQLKWOKA6OHPY6U3UI&searchidx=5
Suze says
I like the ones that play off the fun patterns in your wall hanging. The gold bars rug is my favorite and I like the ikat rug too but maybe a bright color would be better for a boy. What about a green zigzag stripe like this one?
http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Hand-Tufted-Vibrant-Vibes-Pattern-Wool-Rug-7-x-10/8032788/product.html?refccid=4B7YZBFEPOGZKD2F2ODDUIDQM4&searchidx=250
If the link doesn’t work, it’s the Hand-Tufted Vibrant Vibes-Pattern Wool Rug at Overstock in green. Good price too!
Anna s says
Go for the RED! It’s fun like your boys! #2 too safe & light. #3 too $$$$ but also good. #4 too busy. #5 too dark.
Carla says
Looooove that land of nod one! It’s something that could work for his room once he gets older too 🙂
heather says
I love the gold but at that price & kids- Ack! Try to find something that can go in any room in the house because I am sure within a year you will want to “spruce” up & change things a bit.
The gray & whites are always a safe but fun choice.
A deep navy blue Ikat would look cool
Belinda says
I adore the red one in the room!
Jessica says
I love the 2 gray ones and the yellow one. I think any if those would work. The gray is subtle but the patterns pop. And I really like all the gray in the room with pops if green yellow and red. The yellow one is nice too if you like color. But def not the ikea one in my opinion. It strays away from the three color scheme you have going on and I don’t like the pink dots in it. Can’t wait to see which one you pick!
heather s says
cost aside, i like the red one best!
Janice says
The Ikat….subtle and relaxing. Soothing.
Danielle says
I like the bright pops of color so the red or yellow ones.
mandy says
My favorite look is the PBK ikat, but I would be afraid to spend that much $ and have it destroyed….
Kelsey says
I’m loving the red one!
Jenny Stoudt says
REd!
Anna // Gone Banannas says
I really love the way the red rug ties the room together but I like the gray Urban Outfitters one as well. Red is the conversation starter though 🙂
Rebecca says
I like the Urban Outfitters one out of the choices.
If you want more options, try rugsusa.com. Around some holidays they will have a 75% off sale and have a giant selection. At the 4th of July I got an 8.5′ x 11.5′ rug wool for $250 that is normally $1000 and it had been on Joss and Main right before that for much higher.
Lisa E says
Funny how there are so many different tastes. I liked three of them, the subtle one in #2 but way too expensive, the fun colorful one in #5 because of all the gray, it’s more fun for a kid and you can’t beat the price, and lastly the dark one in #6. I love red, but it steals the show from that awesome accent wall. I’m sorry, #3 gives me a headache, ha!
Chasity says
I like the second one! It keeps the floor space from being too plain without grabbing all the attention from the rest of the room.
Allyson says
I love the gray Urban Outfitters rug! I also like the PB ikat rug, but the price seems too high for something in a little boy’s room.
Jackie says
Urban outfitters one gets my vote!
Geri says
Go for the red! He’s a little boy! Have fun!
Evelina says
The gold bars one had my heart instantly. But then I saw the price. Not okay. Second favourite is the Pottery Barn ikat rug. But again, expensive. The last Urban Outfitters rug mimics the PB one in colour, so that’s my winner!
Evelina says
Also, I die for your photoshop skills!
Amy S. says
I like the Urban Outfitters one and I think it would be the most versatile down the line too.
anna says
I would, for price sake, say the red #1. But, the yellow from Land of Nod is my first choice for color and pattern. If you could find a similar rug in a similar color, I’d go for it.
Raylan says
I love the Pottery Barn one, because I feel like it still injects pattern while leaving the room somewhat of a blank slate for changing out the art/toys/furniture for later on down the road. But the price tag is a little steep. You could always hold out for a sale….
Meg says
I’m down with the last one (the Urban Outfitters cheap-o). My mind also sees dollah signs, so between the style (it seems to ground things without weighing them down — does that make sense?) and the price tag, I may get one, myself!! 😉
Aida says
I like the yellow, but not the bars.
How about something like this:

Júlía Elsa says
the red or the yellow are my choices. I think they play best up the other colors of he room. But I would find a cheaper alternative to the yellow one. The gray ones make the room look to grey and the IKEA one has too many colors for my taste.
Lauren says
I like either gray one. Pottery barn or urban outfitters. Having had a bad experience with rugs I bought online I’m now only allowing myself to buy rugs from a store (PB etc) so if needed I can go back and return it. Found out the hard way that at least for wool rugs more expensive is worth it. It’s nice to no longer have wool tufts everywhere in my house including my infants my mouth.
STEPHANIE says
My first thought was the yellow…love how it draws out all the bright accents…but then I saw the price. ouch. especially for a boy..who’s going to destroy it (no offence-i’m speaking of ALL boys;) then I went to the grays. Of course I like the lighter one, it’s just a bit more un obtrusive….but then again the price…So I say go with the Last gray one. It pulls the dark parts from the brick and the color of the carpet. And at that price…if something horrible does happen (my little brother got out the 10,000 flushes and destroyed my mom’s carpet) you can afford to buy another one 🙂
They all look great…so which ever you choose will be fantastic!
Emily M says
I love the Urban Outfitters one best too! I have one from them in my son’s room too and it’s been awesome 🙂
Melanie says
Scrolling through them the first time, the Land of Nod rug screamed YES! to me. However at $800 I thought “No way!” Why is it I always love the pricier items – it’s a huge ‘whomp whomp’ when I learn the price. I would go with the grey one at the end, though I wish the button rug was bigger (my vote would be for that one if it was).
Michelle says
Take a look at the Target site. They have a lot of nice geometric rugs that look close to what you are considering and much better prices.
Cherri says
I like the Ikat rug from Pottery Barn Kids
Stephanie S. says
Pottery barn rug, for sure!!!
Theresa W says
I like #2 – by far – the best. If you could find it at the outlet or on Craigslist it might not break the bank! The others steal the show while this just layers nicely.
Have fun!!
Shondra says
Ikat Pottery Barn is my first choice and the gold bars is a close second. But $800! Ouch.
Chantel says
I LOVE the Ikea one! I think it’s perfect for the room to add a little bit of playfulness and punch of color. It’s small enough that it won’t overwhelm everything too.
I must say, I’m also a big fan of the pricey gold bars rug. But for me, I don’t think it’s worth the money only to get wrestled on and who knows what else might cause pain to that pretty rug. That’s just me tho 🙂
shayna says
Definitely the one from IKEA!
Diana says
I just got an email from PBK for 15% off through March 19, maybe you got one too? If not let me know and I can forward! 🙂
Amanda Smith says
The ikat rug from Pottery Barn kids. I think it will give you the most flexibility for changing all the other accessories. Plus, I don’t really like for rugs to punch me in the face 🙂
Megan says
I love the gold bars-but I just don’t think I could bring myself to pay the $800. So maybe the last option?
Nicole says
Love the gold! The pattern is great, but I’m sure you could find something in a similar color for WAY less money.
Alicia W. says
If your boys are half as into things that go vroom as mine are, maybe one of those rugs with the roads and a town all over it. Might be too busy, but it would be lots of fun!
Kathy says
I vote for the last one. There are already lots of punches of color in there. I would keep the floor with the gray tones. Praying for healthy baby and easy delivery for you!!!
Gracie says
I like the gold one the best!
Reenie says
I kind of like it without one. But, if I got one it would be one of the grey ones. 🙂
christina L says
I vote the last grey chevrony one- not because its cheveron, but because its neutral and the price is great. I feel like if you pick a color for the floor, you are stuck using that color in the tapestry above Weston’s bed, where if you use neutral- you can play with any color that you feel on that wall! Great picks!
Sarah says
The red! Go for it. It’s bold and fun and plays nicely with the other elements – and here’s hoping the rug will inspire the boys to play nicely too! A moms gotta hope.
Ramona Blakeney says
The Land of Nod yellow is gorgeous! (but $$$ and thus, for grownups)
The Magic Thinking buttons one is super fun and playful, and the price says: whatever happens to it-so be it!
Wendy says
I like the idea of red…I think the scale of the first one is too big though. I also like the Urban Outfitter option…nice mix of pattern and price. The grey plays nice with all the other color going on.
Rachel Laree says
I just recently found your blog from yhl!!! I am a rug whore, yes it sounds graphic, but I am constantly buying rugs and replacing them. I have 2 kids under the age of 2, so I would never buy a rug over 200 smack-olahs. I like the look of the last rug plus it’s under 200. That being said, walmart has some really modern durable rugs from mowhawk that I love for 150. I know, I know, walmart…meh?? BUT with my love for rugs, sanity and practicality, they are worth taking a look at. 🙂
Kat says
Either the dark grey or gold one would look so amazing! The dark grey gives off a vibe of strength that I really like (and the price is reasonable for a kid’s room). I think the gold bars is my favorite because it makes the room feel so happy, but that price tag is just insane! The red one makes the room scream Christmas and the button one doesn’t look right with the rest of the colors in the room. The light grey is nice, but too subdued. It is a safe option, but that’s a lot of money to spend on an accessory that is rather boring. If you were set on that red one, since it is quite nice on it’s own, I’d change out all of your green accessories for gold and/or navy ones to make the room feel less like an elf lives there.
Melody says
I love the Urban Outfitters one in that room!
caroline [the diy nurse] says
I love the first gray one but that yellow chevron is to die for!
Jennifer R. says
I really love the Pottery Barn Ikat and the Gold Bars. I think I would lean more towards the gold for the fun punch of color!
I think there has to be a cheaper option though. $800 for a child’s room rug seems very steep – especially when expecting a new little one any day! Kid’s rugs take a real beating. I would look into the nuloom rugs on Overstock. They are 100% wool and ours shed minimally. So soft and inexpensive. Here is a link, I think the green or yellow trellis would look great and last a few years until Weston is ready for a big boy room.
http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/nuLOOM-Hand-hooked-Alexa-Moroccan-Trellis-Wool-Rug-5-x-8/5777732/product.html?refccid=W6GDJF6CCJK24DSKVO7NDLITNY&searchidx=2
Peggy Schomaker says
All of your choices are good ones. When my boys were little, I liked having an area rug to save the carpet underneath. I’d probably pick the last one. The bold graphic is looks great with the giant W, IMO.
Kris says
#4
Shelley says
My personal favorite is the yellow. I just love that color! Both grays and the red also look great. The buttons seem a little out of place. Look forward to seeing what you choose! The room is great! I love the colors in it so much!!
Stephanie says
My favorite is the last one, the Urban Outfitters rug. I think there’s plenty of color in the room already, so a more neutral rug would be less busy and more pleasing to the eye. Also, great price.
shevy says
i think the Magical Thinking Chevron Rug looks the best! the colorful ones kind of over power the room. your son will need to sleep in their so the gray and white pattern keeps the color pallet more soothing while the contrast in this rugs pattern keeps it fun!
Morgan says
Definitely the red!
Erika says
I LOVE the button rug from Ikea, but I am a huge fan of color! 🙂
Allison says
I loooove the first red one. It’s such a beautiful pattern and the colour would go great in that room – plus, how often do you get to use such a bold colour?!
Morgan says
Funny enough, I just saw this bad boy on sale and thought it might pique your interest as it has the yellow color with the bold print at mid-level price: http://www.westelm.com/products/key-wool-dhurrie-horseradish-t580/?pkey=crugs-on-sale&cm_src=rugs-on-sale||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_–_-
The Krissy Snow says
ok.. this may sound crazy but why not splurge for the 40 dolla make ya holla ikea one? its super cute-doesnt break the bank-can be used for multiple gender babies or even throw down in the “play area” once weston gets a new one or you decide another one would be better suited as he grows.
Dawn says
I vote for Urban Outfitters Magical Chevron. It plays well with your brick wall and gray is such a great neutral.
Marie says
How do you keep rugs from moving around while on carpet? I can’t seem to keep them in one spot!
April says
Either of the gray ones!
Kayla says
I like the first two options the best. The red really makes the room pop. Admittedly I like all of them except the button one. It’s just too much colorful chaos for my eyes.
Heather @ Thrifty Stories says
My faves are the following order.
#5, #2, #3, #1, #4
I love the neutral grays – you can change your pops of color as he grows. However, the gold one also looks great with the gray tones in the room. Whatever you choose will be awesome for your little man. 🙂
My prayers are with you as you are waiting for LJ’s arrival. Birth is still fresh in my mind as our baby #5 is only four months old. However, my vivid memories may have to do with her traumatic birth story. She’s an I-85 baby and evidently was born with a absolute flair for drama. {rolls eyes} She gave us two (TWO!!) hours from the very beginning to the end, …er, to the passenger seat of our van. Ha.
Sarah S says
I think that a blue or navy rug would go well in this room. It would accent the red and green well and as long as the pattern is smaller it won’t look to heavy.
cassandra` says
my vote- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Large-Kids-Play-Village-Rug-City-Road-Mat-Town-Car-Rugs-/400208741570 something like this!!!! grays, colors, function, and …. 3 boys!!! or for that price, and the durability of the ones i have seen, would be a great patio rug for camfire/outside hangouts !!!
Keilah says
The gray Urban Outfitters. You have plenty of color around the room, and with that rug, they get to hog the limelight. Plus, you can easily change up the color scheme later and not have to buy a new rug.
Susie says
If it was a room for you, I’d definitely say the gold/yellow herringbone rug — it’s fantastic. But because it’s for a little boy, I enthusiastically vote for the dark gray Urban Outfitters rug: it’s dark enough to hide spots and withstand little boys’ antics (I have a four year old boy too, so I know what you’re dealing with!), it looks fantastic with the room, and it will “grow” with the room as Weston grows, i.e., you could continue to use it in the room as you change out the accessories for a toddler room, a little boy room, a big boy room, etc. And bonus, you can’t beat the price!
Noel M says
I love the gold one too – as others said, you could certainly find a cheaper one in that color!
Rebecca says
Yellow! So fun, and it feels less seasonal than the red and less monochromatic than the gray ones.
Alison C says
I vote #1, #3, or #5. 1 and 3 are my favorites because they add color to the floor. Otherwise it’s kind of like the same problem you had with the rug in there…a lot of grey. #5 has a pretty bold pattern though so I think it works.
nina says
Hi! I had to chime in on this because I’ve bought rugs from Urban Outfitters before and I can tell from the close up on their site that this one is the same material as the one’s I’ve purchased. The always look great, and if you have a large enough washing machine you can machine wash them, but they REFUSE to stay in place. Even over carpet, they get kicked, wrinkled, rolled up in the corners. For the price, design, and ease of care I still think it’s worth it, but I am always fixing the carpet position. And I do have a carpet pad underneath, the carpet material is similar to a thick canvas and it’s just a bit too light-weight to stay exactly where you put it.
Fara says
I love the ikat rug. Enough pattern and color to be interesting (and camouflaging), but not so much to be overwhelming.
M says
They are all great looking rugs, but I think any of the darker gray toned ones would look best in this space. The first one is nice, but there is a lot of green and red happening in this room already, and I think another pop of red might send it into North Pole Territory 😉
Stacie J says
#5 is my favorite, but I think a DIY-ed version of #3 would be great, too!
Veronica says
The gold bars is my #1 choice, I think it plays well with the gray and also with the other accent colors in the room.
The Urban Outfitters chevron would probably be my #2 because I like dark colors and while the red is darker I felt like it was too much of a punch in the nose ; ) and the dark gray will work with any other color you put in there.
Veronica says
Agree with this!! $800 is quite steep for a rug….and I’m sure something you could DIY fairly easily.
Corinna says
Katie – nice choices!
I second the DIY of the gold bar chevron rug (@Andrea Sandifer). And would love an 8×10 cheapo rug tutorial as I am in desperate search of an area rug to go with my grey/white ikat curtains but also have kids and messes.
Speaking of trying to pattern match- do you have a tutorial for photoshopping a room like you did with the rugs? Can you link that? Or create one? Sometimes these things are so hard to picture! Would really help me….
Paige @ The Room Kit says
I like the red! It’s a punch in the face, but in a good way. Plus the price. I mean, hello.
Rachel says
I like the red one best. The yellow one comes in second, but that price tag is O_O so I would go with #1.
Kate says
I’m a long time follower of your blog & first time commenter 🙂 My favorite is the Ikea rug. I have 3 boys and have thought about that rug for their rooms or play room, but was always concerned about the pink. In Weston’s room, I didn’t even notice the pink and I was looking for it! I have to admit, the price swayed me, too. 😉
I also like this on overstock ($189 & :
http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Indoor-Outdoor-Green-Ikat-Area-Rug-710-x-1010/8085351/product.html?refccid=KJJPQK4IAYVYUT2J6QPMUC33BE&searchidx=5
And this one at Target. I LOVE the orange & the 7×10 is only $150 and you could always incorporate some orange in the room if you haven’t already. They also have grey & blue.
Best of luck! Welcome to the “My 3 sons club”!! It is so much fun! 🙂
Allison says
My favorite is the light gray ikat, runner-up is the gray UO. I like the neutrals, letting your bright art/furniture be the star.
beckyj @ A Lazy Crazy Life says
Even before seeing the prices, the Urban Outfitters rug was my choice. Even more so, given the price tag.
Heather says
My vote would be for the last one. I like that it has a pattern but the color is subtle enough to let the other items in the room pop .
Monica says
Red or Yellow, or maybe even navy!! Any of those would be so great in there!!

I like the yellow one!
Darcy says
As much as I love #5 (the name!!), I am worried it’s to much gray in the room. I have really warmed up to the yellow (even though the red looks great too). I bet you can find something similar but cheaper somewhere else!
Alycia says
The gold bars were my 100% immediate vote. But I have pets and a my husband is a forklift technician who comes home covered in grease. Aka – my rugs need to be crazy tough, inexpensive and on the darker side or I would have a heart attack when it was ruined LOL. If the rug is really good quality though it’s perfect for the space and I would honestly splurge if it’s going to stand up to the abuse.
Becca G. says
#5 bc it’s neutral and cheap, it won’t be a big deal if the kids mess it up and neutral to go with a different hanging for above the crib when you switch it up.
Jennifer @ Brave New Home says
Yellow! It brightens up the whole room

DEFINITELY the last one! It will grow with him, and if his room changes as he grows, you can easily use it elsewhere in the house. The yellow one is adorable, too, but I don’t think it will age with him like the last one.
Shannon Fox says
Definitely the magical thinking rug from Urban Outfitters. There’s so much color already…I like the grounded but still showy look of the dark gray. The red’s okay, and I see that a lot of people like it, but I think it could get clash with those red curtains you already have in there.
Erika m says
Def not the button one and. Ot the pricy one, I like the chevron one at the end but chevron is kind of overdone, the red is too much for me but still looks cute. I like these striped ones, the green (sprout) especially.

Ilse says
Picking from the five you provided I’d say the last, dark grey one is gorgeous tough I think if you go with that, the room might need a few extra colors in accesoiries.
What I would defenitly like the most would be the red one but with a smaller scale pattern so it would be a little more subtle. I really love using such a bold color on such a big surface. The rest of the room is quite neutral so a big red rug would give it a lot more personality.
Finally, I like the one with the golden stripes too but I absolutely HATE the one with the buttons.
Hope that makes sense since I’m not a native speaker ;)! Good luck!
Jenny G. says
I like the yellow Land of Nod one best but the price tag is totally scary so I would choose the red RugsUSA. It’s fun. I also think some shade of navy would be pretty.
Jeanna says
Do you remember the name of the Behr paint color you color matched? I’ve been wanting that shade of gray and every. single. test pot I’ve tried comes out with a blue undertone. I just tried skyline steel and french silver and I’m starting to go a little batty. HELP!
Jane says
i love the red! it makes the red accents pop.
Susan says
I vote for the red or the last gray one. They are all lovely but I veto the buttons. Too much. I want to like the yellow but it screams at me too much and oddly the red doesn’t. It was an instant impact.
Cindy says
I like option #5 for the price and a more “calm” look. If you want a punch of color, I like this yellow one from Ikea: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10229035/
Or the whimsy of this red one, also from Ikea:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20225409/
I agree with other readers/commenters that you’ll want to spend less money on a rug that could easily be destroyed OR as a piece that you can interchange in the room to give it a different feel/look.
I know you can’t shop online, but have you checked out your local Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, or Homegoods? They all have great rug options on a friendly budget.
Can’t wait to see what you decide!
LibraDesignEye says
So fun! I love the ikea one and even more because it is for Weston and even more for the $$$. But also, the yellow is wonderful in the space.
Sarah @ 702 Park Project says
I love the Land of Nod gold bars rug. It adds a great punch of color but still fits the room well. I’ve learned that when it comes to rugs, you get what you pay for. So it may be worth spending a little more. Then again, a nursery is a fairly temporary room, so there’s that. Good luck! Can’t wait to see what you choose! 🙂
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Urban cheveron rug. The zig zags mimic the mountains in the tapestry plus the neutral colors mean you can use it in other rooms if you decide to switch things up. I do love the pop of the gold bars.
Carolyn says
The yellow is my favourite for sure, but if it were me, I don’t think I could justify the price. So, I’d go for the red! It gives a similar, fun look as the yellow, but is more reasonable!
Bertie DeWane says
I love the one from Urban Outfitters!!!
Christine Williams says
Ok, heres my opinion….when you had them all lined up at the top my eyes immediately went to the dark grey and the light grey. I felt like they gave the room the best “put together” look. Granted, I understand that you can punch people with some color with this room but I already think you are accomplishing that with all your wall art and accessories. In other words, the room is plenty bright and colorful and I think the greys help it flow nicely together. And then I saw the price tags….the darker grey from Urban O was already my favorite and then compared to the Pottery Barn price I was sold immediately on the Magical Thinking Chevron Rug….and yes, I was pretty much sold immediately from the name too! So there you have it….one more opinion weighed in….

Nicole B. says
Holy cow rugs are expensive!! When I glanced at the little pics all lined up, the one that I liked best was the Ikea one, and that was before I even knew the price! The colors and dots are just fun & creative and something that totally fit with a busy little boy! I’m digging it in that large size too though. I wonder how much an 8×10 plain white rug would be that you could paint to resemble it? HHhhhmmmmmmm!!
Joanna says
Hi Katie, as my little girl’s toys are threatening to take over I’ve been on a search for storage. Then I see the piece in Weston’s room! The cubes with the baskets and two doors on bottom. Your did you find this?
Rebecca says
First red one or the last gray one!
CathyS says
Love this West Elm one and the sale price makes it perfect! Good eye Morgan
Pia says
Oh please not the gray ones! So deadly boring!
Michelle | Birds of Berwick says
Gold Bars! Although I don’t like paying too much for rugs… $500 – $600 is usually the max on my showy spaces like living room/dining room, etc and not even kids rooms… Either way, I’d find something in that color family, but something that isn’t too fem-fatal. This one has a nice pattern that is sorta manly with the geometric looks to it and the color really does brighten the space.
Carmen says
Hi Katie!
What do you think of Shelby Rug (blue) from pottery barn? I think is nice but all your options are great, is the baby coming soon?
Have a great week.

Kristi says
Don’t go with Urban Outfitters–that rug is cheap for a reason. While it says “woven” the gray isn’t actually woven–it’s printed on, so it’ll fade/eventually rub off. Plus, those rugs are super-thin, and if you don’t have some kind of sticky backing to attach it to the floor then it’s constantly going to be rolling up or moving around.
Rachael says
I actually like the ikea one the best! The cheapest one – that never happens! Do it!
Leia says
I’am voting the RED one !
Brenna says
Tough one! I think my favourite is the Gold Bars… Until I saw the price. It is soooo cute in the space though! Runners up are the Red Medallion and the Magical Thinking.
JenB says
Agreed. I think navy would look good in there, too. Otherwise, I like the last two.
sarah says
LOVE that IKEA option with the buttons! that rug in itself could provide some good hours of entertainment and pretend games for a little one. fun!
Cori June says
I have the red one in my living room but I have it in grey. I love it! Super soft and I got it on their Black Friday sale when it was 70% off which was an awesome deal for a HUGE rug! We have the same Karlstad couch that John and Sherry have from Ikea, so we needed a BIG rug. We don’t have any children yet but we have a big dog and 2 cats that love to lay around on it.
Meagan Griffin says
Instead of repeating a color that you’ve already used in your accents, (Red, Green, and Yellow) why not try for something with blue in it? It’s a primary color too so it’ll go with anything.
Katie says

I considered that but I know that I’ll probably want a wool rug or something a little thicker in here…probably…so that is why I ruled out a DIY option. And no…the Frogtape sponsorship was a certain number of posts so once we reached the end of our end, we didn’t accept the extension.

ooooh…that’s pretty darn near perfect!

My fav is the ikat rug from Pottery Barn kids in gray. Subtle so you can change out other pieces and it would still work.

I love the buttons one. It won’t grow with Weston; a juvenile pattern such as this has a definite lifespan. However, it’s a fun punch of color and it pulls the green accents down to the floor.

My first thought was the gold bars, but the price…EEEKK… at least for a rug in a little boys room that will see a lot of wear and tear 🙂 I would cry about something spilling on my $800 rug, but not a $200 one! My second favorite was the gray rug and the price sealed the deal for me!

The gold bars rug looks perfect in there!

I love the Ikea rug! Wonder if two of those rugs side by side would look good?
Second option (but far in the distance) is the red one.
Can’t wait to see what you decide. H ope you’re feeling Okay these days. Praying for a safe and quick delivery for you.

That’s good to know! Hate when the colors are so off from the picture!

Buttons. Buttons, buttons, buttons.
ashley @ sunnysideshlee.com says
i really love the red one or the gray one. the yellow one kinda made me seasick but that could have been just because it was on the computer lol
Merri Jo says
Really funny, my two fans are opposite ends of the style spectrum, really–#1= the gray Pottery Barn and #2= the Ikea buttons! I like the buttons so well, I’m now going to buy it for our grandsons’ playroom!! You are such a trend setter! 😉

Hi Katie! I love the ikat Pottery Barn one. I think all do work though – great selections 🙂

I like the pottery barn kids one – seems like it may be more versatile for other rooms in the future.

I vote mellow yellow! 🙂

You s hould look at the Maples Fretwork Rug from Target. I t is on sale right now for an awesome (i.e. cheap) price and it comes in blue, tan, gold, gren, red, grey etc…several of the colors would look good in Weston’s room!

Red Medallion or the Gold Bars

I love the PB gray ikat, but mostly because I am such a scarredy cat when it comes to color with major items (I like to add it in with the accessories). I feel like the gray goes so well with the other “permanent” parts of the room that you’ll have a base that you can stick with for (almost) ever…BUT all of the options LOOK great!! I also love that it adds a little texture while sticking with a muted color!

The gold bars!!!!!!!

Do you have a Costco nearby? I got what looks like the EXACT same red rug – 8 x 11 – for $89 there! I have it in my dining room and luuuuurve it. And. Eighty. nine. dollars.
Cristina says
I think I’m going with the buttons! This is a kids room after all! 🙂 Those colors will be great for tummy time when he’s a newbie and will easily transition to play room etc later

I loved the yellow one until I read the price- holy moly that’s a lot for a rug that kids will destroy! I think my new favorite is the Urban Outfitters rug.
Lauren says
Don’t do the urban outfitters one! They are not kid friendly! They are beautiful, but even with a great rug pad, it was always wrinkled and all over the place in our house. It was also impossible to vacuum and throwing it in the washing machine made it fade
Katie says
oooh. I don’t have one nearby but I have a friend that maybe could check it out for me!

ooo all good choices but for me it is the Red one with gold bars being a close second and I feel like both could be used in another room since they seem a little sophisticated too. while the buttons are my least favorite since they seem only to be either kid friendle or in a sewing room
hallie says
I would pick the urban outfitters rug. It was one of my faves, and for such a great price its a no brainer. This is fun!
Lori says
Buttons FTW. My 15-year-old spotted it at Ikea last week and wished she’d had it in her little-kid room. She may have actually wanted it now, too, but she’s too cool and sophisticated. 😉

I love the urban, outfitters one! Any tips on getting a rug to stay put on carpet? I had a rug in my oldest daughters room after she was born, but the shifting drove me so crazy that I got rid of it!

I would LOVE to see a tutorial on the “fabric tapestry”!

I like the Ikea buttons one. It’s kitchy like the wall hanging. I like the spunk that it has and the price is right for a kids room!
Katherine says
My favorites are the Pottery Barn and Ikea choices as well. AND I’m so happy to hear that Urban has (affordable) rugs! I’m shopping for our nursery and a rug is one of many items I need to get before July 2!

Hi katie,
What tool do you use to visualize a rug in a room like this. I am having a tough time deciding on a rug for my living room. Would like to visualize the same way as you have done here. Really appreciate your help.
Thanks
Shyamali
Katie says
I used photoshop. Just pasted the rug into a new layer on my original photo and then warped it till it looked semi-flat.

Normally, I’m not attracted to red, but the red rug definitely caught my eye the most! That’s the winner in my book!!
