So happy to finally reveal Baby Girl Bower’s name to all of you! We also wanted to share the names that made the short list. We loved the process of picking the names for our sweet bundle!

The name process was fairly straightforward. We wanted to use at least one family name and my Mummum’s health had been failing for the last year so we knew that it would make it extra special if the name we chose was from that side of the family. My grandmother’s mother was named Eleanor and that is a very revered name in our family….my great-grandmother died giving birth to my great uncle when my Mummum was very young and being able to make that choice was full circle for me. It was extra sweet also because I love Eleanor Roosevelt. We decided to shorten it to Ella as her legal name because we knew that we as a family would probably end up calling her that. But yes, Ella is for Eleanor in our hearts. The cherry on top was finding out that Eleanor is also a family name on Jeremy’s side.
Violet was chosen as her middle name because it is the American version of the name Viola (my great aunt’s name) and it is also used in Jeremy’s family. Violet also happens to be the state flower of New Jersey (where I was born), represents a sweet and strong flower and as a color, is often associated with wisdom, creativity, royalty and amethysts (my birth stone!). Also it was one of the few names we could agree on 🙂 Picking names without a person associated with it is HARD!
We felt also her name went well with the boys names – it has a little vintage charm that goes with it – Ella Violet – and it is still a name that we feel she can grow into! My middle name is Elizabeth and we found it so cute that Ella is actually a nickname for Elizabeth too! Isn’t that adorable?! I mean…it’s like I was able to give her something that represented her immediate family and her extended family too.
As for her arrival….yes, I am 41 and 2 days today….and yes, she already has her induction scheduled in case she decides to not come on her own. I am attempting my fourth VBAC and we are hopeful that everything will be super easy! If you would like to follow along with me and Jeremy as we welcome Ella into the world, we plan on posting regular labor and delivery updates on Instagram (we have done this with the last three boys). I am @bowerpowerblog (Jeremy is @the_jeremy_bower) and can not tell you how much it means to us when y’all leave comments and encouraging things! I actually do read them when I’m in labor 🙂 and thank you soooo much for all your prayers and thoughts….we can’t tell you how excited we are to meet little Miss Bower and start on this new phase of our adventure!

Oh I adore the name Ella! That was high on our list of girl names. We had our first child, a girl named Nora, but then two boys after so I could not use Ella. Rosie and Hazel were also ones we wanted to use, I loved the process of picking out a name. Also, that crew of boys you have are adorable! Good luck welcoming sweet Ella!
LOVE the name! My oldest daughter is named Ellanor. We knew we wanted it to be shortened to Ella and not Ellie which is why we changed the spelling. She may hate me for it later, but we love it and it fits her perfectly.
My third child (a boy) would have been either Charlotte or Lucy if a girl. Instead, he is named Miles Andrew which goes back pretty far on my husband’s side of the family.
I love when names have so much meaning behind them! Can’t wait to see your newest addition (hopefully soon!)

So pretty! The boys were adorable and hilarious. My third is Violet Ann and my second is Scarlett June so I am totally with you in the same name mind set. Both of them have family names as their middle names and sound vintagey (I say they have southern old lady names). Goodluck for a safe delivery!

Too cute. Ella and Elle were on my short list last year. We ended up decided when she was almost 2 days old to name her Jane. Glad the boys didn’t totally freak out when you said Jane, hehe. Our baby Janie just turned 11 months over the weekend. Time goes by so fast. I wish you a quick (not too quick) and smooth delivery.

I love all of your name choices! I have an Aurora (Rory) and a Scarlett, my cat is named Rosey and we have a fish named Pearl…also my BFF’s little girl is named Evelyn. Lovin’ it! We had a very similar list of names. Charlotte Sophia was my intended name for my girl. In my mind she was supposed to be a redhead like me and my father and his mother and five brothers. It was my ultimate redhead name. But she was the total opposite! Back to square one at the hospital. She is Madeline Grace and we couldn’t imagine anything different!

Great minds think a like! My LO was born mid-August, and we named her Ella Rose in honor of my grandmother who passed away during my pregnancy. Her name was Rosella. What a wonderful tribute to both sides of your family. Prayers for you and Ella as you near labor and delivery.

Love it! I have a Violet, Violet Jeanette. She too is named after my grandmother. Violets were my grandmothers favorite and Jeanette was her name.

What a sweet name. I about spit out my tea when Max got his arm totally twisted up in his shirt and then looked at it like, “What just happened?”..So funny! And then Weston at the end screaming out his love for his baby sister…they are ready to be big brothers to a precious sister. Well done, Mama.
My Great-Grandmother on my Mom’s side was Eleanor, my Great-Grandma on my Dad’s side was Voila. Needless to say, I absolutely love the name. Elle was our pick if we ever had a girl, but that’s not in the cards for us #boymomforlife Can’t wait to see pictures!

I love it, and all the rIch meaning behind it! I wanted to share that I have been following your story and understand how hard it is to lose your grandmother at this exact time. I recently delivered our first baby girl in February (we also have three boys) and my grandmother passed away three days after she was born. My Nana never got to meet her because she was already in a coma at Emory about two weeks prior to passing. I know how much she would have loved her, her great granddaughter. But now, it brings me joy when I see something Nana bought for her (I know it sounds silly, but my Nana loved to spoil my children, she always had gifts for them, it was her love language so to speak. Nana loved chambray, so whenever my Mom and I see a cute chambray baby outfit, we buy it and say, “Well, Nana would want her to have it”). So now we cherish all those gifts she bought in love just a little bit more! They remind us of her kind and generous heart!

Our daughter’s name is also Ella, short for Elizabeth! She is the 5th generation, with Bess, Betty, Betsy, and Beth coming before, so it was hard to choose a diminuitive! We were going to call her Libby, but then I taught one who skipped my class….

oh man! The name you chose is so lovely! I know this post is about the baby name but omg how do you even handle how cute your boys are??? And I don’t even know them!! My youngest daughter is named Ella and we love the name. Her full name is Gabriella but everyone calls her Ella. I feel like we have the exact same taste in girls names because almost all of the names on your short list were also on ours. Congrats and enjoy that little miss, daughters are wonderful!

First of all…Ella is my youngest daughter’s name!! Ella Josephine…Josephine is my Grandma’s middle name. I saw those adorable little sandles and immediately thought she would be named Violet!! Then to see that you chose Ella…SWOON!! Katie, I am so thrilled and overjoyed to be a part of this journey with you, Jeremy & the boys. When I was pg with my Ella, I craved Nutella…so her nickname became Ella Bella Nutella. Hehehe.
