I know this sounds stupid. Maybe beyond stupid. But I love shopping at American Eagle but I hate actually going in there. I feel the stares from the other shoppers….the cutest little 15 year olds with no kids and no wrinkles and their only worry is that Jackson asked Emma to friday’s football game after party instead of them…and I can literally read their thoughts. Why is that old mom shopping in here? Why does she have so many kids? Ew. That one has boogers running down his face.
But it’s always worth it because when I get home, the clothing actually is adorable and it usually is super comfortable and wears well. So now I just order online. It’s easier. Less stares. Less mannequin fatalities. More trying on time. And the reason I say all this is that AE is having a clearance sale right now with some of the cutest stuff….including shoes! And a super comfy shirt – the one I’m wearing above and a ton of other options….all under $22. Most of them under $15. Here are some of my favorite picks….

Lol! I’m a thirtyish mom of four and totally relate to the looks from the teenage workers in so many of the mall stores. Thanks for the smile and the sale tip… happily shopping from my couch as my four watch a cartoon movie. Lazy Sunday evening round here, and momma is gunna look good in some new duds soon. 🙂 xo!

YES! I am the same way! I love their jeans and always get compliments when I wear them. But at 35, I’m pretty sure I’m way outside their targeted demographic. 🙂 They have free returns to the store too, somehow I don’t feel so old returning stuff. Am I returning jeans for me? Am I returning jeans for my teen daughter? No one will ever know! haha

I’m glad to not be alone in AE online shopping. Their collection of colored khakis (kick boot) has been a wardrobe staple of mine for years. Everyone I work with (professional office) always asks where I buy my pants and then look at me with crazy eyes. But AE khakis and Gap dress pants are my jam. But for around $20 on average when you catch them on sale, unbeatable! The jeans are great too.

One question–What sizes do you order? Do they fit like “teen” sizes?
Thanks! 🙂

Hey! Thanks for the heads up! I shop at American Eagle and I’m 57! When you’re only 5′ 4″ and 115 pounds and have a boyish figure (read that as no hips, no tush, no curves and little bosom) you can’t shop at “age appropriate” stores, lol! Not that I would anyway because, as a general rule, those stores have nothing that interests me. AE has a lot of nice things that I can wear that don’t scream “old lady trying to look like she’s still 18”. Unfortunately, I can’t order online because I really do need to try things on. On the plus side of that equation, AE’s sales people are always really nice and very helpful so it’s not an awful experience. But, then again, I’m not trying to shop with three or four kids in tow!
To women everywhere! Shop at the stores that carry the styles you like and that you are comfortable wearing and that fit you well….no matter what your age is or what your “mommy” status currently is. And if teeney boppers or older women give you funny looks, stick your tounge out, roll your eyes, swivel your head around and act like a crazy person! I mean, if they’re going to stare…..give them something REALLY worth staring at! Lol!

This is a random question, but do you have something in your hair in this pic? I see little colorful dots scattered throughout and I can’t tell if it something on my screen or if it’s a new kind of hair “decor.” I feel like my eyes are playing tricks on me….

I find that with AE I wear up a size in bottoms (L for underwear and pajamas and up a size – sometimes two in jeans if the reviews run small) and then for tops, it’s fairly true to size…whatever I wear in Gap or Old Navy usually fits. I do pay close attention to the cut though…if it looks like a crop top on the model, it usually is 🙂

LOL, thank you for clarifying. I don’t know why I found that so perplexing. I can’t stop laughing at myself for not being able to figure it out and having to ask you.

It’s no biggie 🙂

Do you find you need to size up there? I haven’t shopped at AE since college when I was much younger and pre-baby
RC says
Thanks! Mom of three here and I tend to avoid trendy shops like Forever 21 bc they’re sized so small. (I’m an 8/10–But an XL there. Lol.) I think I’ll give this sale a shot!
Katie says
I’m an 8-10 in normal pants and wear an L – XL there. I go up a size or two. And for tops I am usually a M-L and I found that I can stick to that but just make sure the cut is not too short because I don’t do crop tops 🙂

I was a manger at AE for a very long time, pre kids. Now I’m a SAHM of three and I drag them with me every time we are at the mall. Their clothes do hold up very well. I have jeans from there that are older than my kids!!
