Being pregnant with a second boy is kinda funny.
I have this sense of ‘I have everything I need’ which of course translates into “there is nothing I need to do to get ready” which of course is completely false. There are still plans to be made, bags to be packed, guest rooms to be made up and oh-yeah, a toddler to care for, transition into big-brother-hood, and keep alive till the day of delivery (and after!). Oh and did I mention, it would be nice to have a fully finished kitchen? Details.
So even though we haven’t touched the nursery (we were mostly finished with Will’s old nursery at this same point in my pregnancy with him), or cleaned the house (I had Jer shampoo the carpet in our old house for Will…this time around, I’m lucky if all three of us are in clean underwear & diapers) or wrote out a birth plan (last time – four handwritten pages that went right out the window), I do dream of things that we could get that would be nice for our second trip around the parenting moon.
Oh and as a disclaimer…I started this post a long time ago so I do apologize if any of this stuff is outdated or if a new/fancier/more robotic version is available…
Moodboards I have missed you.
I am not a video monitor kinda girl. I know myself and myself shouldn’t do video monitors. Let’s put that out there. We have the Graco Secure Coverage Digital Monitor from our days of monitoring Will and it works ok. I would wake up in the middle of my rare and precious hour of sleep to put my nose as close as humanly possible to Will’s side to see if he was still breathing. Longest two seconds of my life. So when I heard about the Angelcare Monitor Deluxe that monitors movement and does sound…well, it’s like a breath of fresh air for me. I want it.
Aww Sophie. Will didn’t know your love. Hopefully baby numero dos will….or should I say le numero deux. I hope you enjoy necking with my baby…you know, once I pay for you. That sounded bad.
I didn’t even know about the aden + anais swaddling cloths until we all discussed our favorite baby items in the comment section of this giveaway post. Well, this is me pulling up my maternity spanx and jumping on that bandwagon. I’m a swaddler and I want a pack please. or four.
Unpacking the 0-3 month bin of Will’s old clothes was literally one of the highlights of my week. I pretended I was at a baby shower…thanking the imaginary folks in my bedroom. I gushed. I cried. I blamed the hormones. Outloud. And then I realized that there is always more room for cute tiny clothing. I’m loving the footed pants and comfy pieces from H&M and Gap.
Jeremy and I were joking that the number one thing on a baby wishlist should be sound-silencing earwear for when you aren’t on baby duty and just need to clear your head. I wasn’t joking. I think these would do just fine. And one day they can be Will’s earmuffs for when he goes full-monty-redneck at his first Daytona 500.
Something I regret not getting with Will was a wrap. I really REALLY want one. The Solly Baby Wrap and the Moby Wrap
seem very similar…and I like the looks of both. Decisions. Decisions. My only hesitation….will it be like sunglasses on top of your head? You forget where they are at times? Because I can totally see myself strapped to the baby wondering where I put him down.
We have been doing some ‘activities’ with Will trying to help prep him for life with a new baby. I have no idea if any of them are working or are going to work. We pretend every day with our own stuffed animals that they are babies and that we need to care for them…including feeding them, holding them, changing them, and putting them to sleep. We talk about the day when the baby comes out of my belly and how we will have to be gentle touchers and what we say when the baby cries. We showed him all the little clothes and went through his toys and decided what would belong to the little guy. And we talk about sharing everything from bath towels to carseats to cousins with the Little Baby. Will helped pick out a present for the new baby. We also pray for him every day. One of the other things Jer and I wanted to do was get Will a present that the baby ‘brought’ for him. I think Will would be ecstatic to get this train set.
Like I said, Will helped pick out a present for the Little Baby. It’s only natural that we get our second boy an Angel Dear Blankie
…especially since Will has been inseparable from his since birth. Will has the brown owl version. Our next little guy should have one equally cute….I’m loving the racoon especially with his proper little collar 🙂
Speaking of presents….why not me too?! I like to commemorate big events with jewelry….not ridiculously priced out of budget jewelry…just really pretty simple things I can wear and remember a special place or a thing or an event. I told Jer a long time ago that he could get me a push present and it could be these Stella & Dot earrings.
Seriously how adorable are mini moccasins?! Can they possibly get any cuter? Um the correct answer is no. they can not.
I’ve been wanting that long tailed bonnet hat for a long time. I can imagine all my babies in it. All three thousand of them. And then I saw the little red & white striped bit from Gap and was like – MUST BE MINE. I don’t have either. I did order this one just recently:
with the cacoon. Consider me very excited about the Little Babys first photoshoot.
My friend has one of these Joovy Hook On Highchairs and every time I see it, I lust. It’s a sin. A sin to be that stinking genius. I could keep it in the car and whenever I need a bacon fix, I just give it to Will to lug into the restaurant. No more grody diner highchairs for me. So so smart.
So what have you guys been looking at getting? Anything not the norm? Anything you missed with your first bambino? Do tell.
p.s. We started an online baby pool for our little guy! You can click here to guess his arrival date, time, hair color, eye color (Jer’s are blue and mine are brown), length and weight. Also – we have some awesome prizes coming for the winner…so you wanna get in on this. More info to come 🙂

As someone who has owned many, many different baby carriers, wraps are great while they’re little babies, but once they’re older they were either too stretchy or difficult to wrangle a wiggly baby into. My favorite was the Babyhawk. Best carrier for a back carry, which with a second child is priceless. It makes chasing after the toddler so much easier.

Great list! Just a word of advice (that you should definitely take!!)…the angel care monitor is the BEST and is a sleep/life saver! However, get the newer model that comes with 2 sensor pads. As our son got bigger and more mobile, he’d roll off the sensor pad and onto the sides of his crib. The monitor is very sensitive so it would alarm since he was off sleeping in a corner of the crib! It’s worth every penny but if you don’t get the double sensor pad (covers more area of the crib) it will alarm and you will be spending double to get the newer version! And, Amazon is cheapest! Hope that helps!!!

The Angelcare monitor did not give me the peace of mind I had hoped for when I had my daughter. It gave a lot of false alarms and was very sensitive to ceiling fans. It was a pain to dismantle too when traveling. I would HIGHLY recommend the Snuza (link below). It monitors breathing more accurately and is a small device that actually attaches to the baby’s diaper. I didn’t discover this until my daughter was 7-8 months but I would’ve slept a lot more peacefully had I had this on her when she was a newborn. She wore it for at least 6 months, every night/all night and the battery never gave out. It is seriously genius.

I’m pregnant with boy #FOUR…fortunately, my youngest is nearly 7, so I got rid of most of the baby clothes a long time ago, giving me an excuse to buy (too much) more. I found Moby Wrap that looks brand new (complete with instructions and everything) at Goodwill awhile back. I’m a little worried I will always reach for a pouch or ring sling instead, but I’m determined to at least try to use it, because it was such a good find…but only if I use it. I’m looking forward to my first infancy w/ a Sophie the giraffe, too 🙂

I’m preggo with my first so have no idea what I’m missing. BUT being married to Mr Efficient/That-Needed-To-Be-Done-Yesterday, we’re just twiddling our thumbs for the next 3 months till mini-he arrives.
We also have the Angelcare Monitor, Sophie and a zillion of the Aden + Anais swaddles. For my paranoid mister’s peace of mind, we also bought a SafeT Wrap – essentially you strap your bubs to the bed so that he can’t roll over or get caught in the bars etc.
Also, I made my own DRIA nursing cover; it’s insanely easy to make. You literally get a big square of jersey knit fabric, cut a very narrow neckhole in the middle and zig-zag the ends. Best to keep neckhole as narrow as possible cos then you can chuck it over your carseat/stroller also. Yay for nursing covers that don’t look like aprons!!!

The monitor is a must! We got it for my son and we loved it. We slept well and felt secure with our baby on it. It went off one night and we still will never know why but I can tell you this: we don’t know what would have happened without it. We ran in and grabbed our baby and he was OK. I swear by this monitor to every expecting parent. It’s so worth the peace if mind.

I got a Moby wrap for my second child too and I can’t believe I ever passed it by the first time. It was SO NICE to have my hands free for needs (my own or kid #1’s) and for getting stuff done (like cooking dinner) while baby #2 napped (she napped a LOT). LIFESAVER – I’d highly recommend getting one….then check you-tube for the how-to because putting it on is COMPLICATED… lol
Katie @ NYCitified says
That baby pool is awesome! I’m totally going to do that with ours, especially since we haven’t found out the gender yet…thank you 🙂
Also, I have a lot of the same stuff on my pregnancy wish list, with the exception of the train set (this is our first). I’m especially excited about the baby wraps/carriers, because I love the idea of keeping baby close while multi-tasking, hehe.
Allison says
I love my moby but for hot weather, I think you might like a k’tan or k’tan breeze better. There is no wrapping and it’s way easier than the moby. Also I STRONGLY recommend an ergo too! My 7 month old LOVES the ergo and will hang out in it on my front or back while I do chores. The moby and k’tan (all stretchy wraps) aren’t able to go on your back once the baby gets older.
good luck with everything! Wishing you the very best!!
Karyn says
I loved my Moby wrap. Only negative, are the strap lengths. If you put it on while out and about, the straps draf all over the ground. Ick. So I started wrapping myself up before I left, but then I felt like I had on a parachute while driving. I hope you can find a happy medium!

Oh Katie, how I so love your charm and wit!! So HILARIOUS! Wishing you a wonderful home stretch. It only happens once, try to cherish the memories.

So far I think I’m the only one who’s guessed an October birth date for the little guy. I’ve known a lot of babies this year born on significant days (my cousin’s little boy was born on leap day!) so I went for Halloween. 🙂
Becky says
I got a wrap when I had my second and don’t know how I would have survived without it. My toddler still needed a lot of attention and assistance and it helped out tremendously to be able to have two hands free while “holding” my infant. They take some practice to master but you won’t regret getting one!
Julie says
I need a list of replies for this post! We got a little surprise this summer (#3) and I’m convinced it’s a boy so thanks for this!
Don’t you find you don’t “need” as much as you go? We got a ton with our 1st (and got rid of most of it because we didn’t think we were going to be able to get pregnant again), got a bit less with our second and got rid of most of it because we were done, and now I’m feeling like there’s even less that we “need”.
LOVE the H&M sweatshirt, the owl blanket, swaddlers, and moccasins (though I wonder if they’ll just fall off), and the cocoon (how lucky are you that you can use it for other shoots to make the cost a bit more justifiable?!?!). I’ve loved our video monitor for both of our two girls, but I know that’s a kind of personal choice type thing (well, all of these are really)
Have you tried the Moby? Some people really love it but I borrowed one from a friend and it didn’t work for me. You might like it, but I suggest trying out a carrier if you can borrow from somebody else before you spend the $ for one!
Thanks for sharing your list!
Alicia says
Katie, the wrap will CHANGE YOUR LIFE! I do not know how I had 2 children before it. Seriously, I think it would have made my first born colicky reflux baby’s first 3 months so incredibly different. I had it for our 3rd child and it was truly a God send. You will LOVE it!
Raeanne says
I totally recommend the Moby (though I’ve never tried the other one…). We just found out that we’re expecting number two (please don’t tell anyone, we’re keeping it a secret for now!) and I just know that the Moby I used with my first will be a lifesaver with my second! There is nothing like having your little one all snuggled up and sleepy on your chest while you can tend to other things… multitasking a it’s best! 🙂
Ann says
You need a wrap (or two or three actually!) You might need a 2nd one while the first one is in the wash. I remember my daughter wondering with a puzzled look where her little brother was when she suddenly noticed he wasn’t on my back. Zero sibling rivalry.
Make sure you choose a color that your husband might want to wear so that he can carry the little one too while you catch a nap.
cindy says
The swaddling blankets, brilliant; perfect weight, size. Wish they’d been around or I knew about them when I was a new mom. They’ve worked beautifully for granddaughter.
The train; can’t say enough good about these trains. We lived in England when my son was born almost 31 years ago and he was gifted a Brio train set. Over the last 31 years, it’s seen so much use and love. My daughter, every niece and nephew that visited. Most recently, a grand nephew and now my granddaughter. It’s safe for little ones and holds up beautifully over much abuse and love. I’ve added pieces from Ikea’s set (new trains) and love the compatibility with other brands.
It’s the first thing my granddaughter plays with now… she’s only 16 months old but we piece the track together like a puzzle and she runs the trains along.
I love that it’s a keepsake too!

Our oldest daughter (age 3.5) was born ten weeks early. We spent 6 weeks in the NICU being trained to watch her many monitors. Going home was terrifying. My husband and I took turns monitoring her (read: staying awake and staring at her) to make sure she didn’t die because she would only sleep on her stomach. During one of my husband’s shifts, he was looking everywhere on line and discovered the AngelCare monitors. I drove to Toys R Us that next morning first thing and was told they were fresh out but that the store 45 minutes away had them and I could pick them up in two or three days (from our nearby store). The thought of another sleepless night made me want to cry. That was way too long so I drove out that day and bought them. Best. Baby. Buy. Ever. I recommend it to everyone. Endofstory.

I loved my Moby. my babies lived in it the first months of their lives and i loved that when i went out i could completely cover them in fabric and no strangers could poke at them. I went on to get a Mai Tai (loved it) and also an Ergo. Depending on what i was doing i would change carriers. Dont get a Bjorn, they aren’t good for the baby’s hips or your back. But the Ergo is an investment so wait and see how the Moby works first. You won’t need anything else until baby is bigger.
My girls are 21 months apart and i couldn’t have lived without a carrier.
Also, i know you had pain while nursing Will, here is a link to the La Leche Leagues in GA https://lllofga.org/Local.html
Even if they can’t help solve a problem i loved mine for having a place to go where my toddler could play and be entertained by others while i sat in a chair and nursed my infant. Plus, you will meet other mother’s and the support system is fabulous.

Those moccasins are so cute! I want some for myself. Are you going for a VBAC? Good luck in these last few weeks! It’s hard to believe the baby is going to be here soon!
Abby says
I loved my Mobymbut there is a downside and that is the amount and bulk of material. I found it very difficult to use the wrap when outside the home just because it was hard to wrap myself without getting the ends on the ground. But have you seen My Baby Nest? {www.mybabynest.com} I have a client who LOVES it! I wish I had had it for my two. Also, it would be so easy to make one instead of spending $60+ on a wrap. Just buy several yards snatching knit or cotton fabric and serge the ends!

Have you revealed the name yet? I wondered if I had missed it!

Can I just tell you how much I love my angelcare monitor? Oh my gosh. We didnt get it until our first son was 5 weeks old, and I swear I did not sleep for those five weeks. I would sit up awake on the couch all night with him in his bassinet behind me, and then when my husband got home from for I would sleep from 5 to 10. It was just an awful period of time, haha!
So my SIL sent us one…and I will forever sing its praises.
Kyra says
If you want to keep your sanity and not have nightly heart attacks I highly rec NOT using the Angelcare monitor! About the 3rd time the thing went off (for no reason) I quit using that part of it and just used it as a noise monitor.
SaraGB says
Have you ever seen/tried a K’tan instead of the Moby? It’s like a Moby, but NO TYING. When you have a screaming baby, trying to figure out how to tie that damn big piece of fabric sucks until you get the hang of it. Oh, and thanks for the mood board. Now I think I “need” a blankie for my 4-month old and a pair of fabulous earrings. I thank you, but my bank account does not.

Adore our angelcare monitor, we had an issue about 9 months in, and they sent out a new monitor, no questions asked. Great customer service for a product that I loved – we put two pieces of plywood under the mattress and had 1-2 false alarms the entire time we used it, and then the few times we forgot to turn the monitor off when we took him out the crib. It is the one thing I recommend to all new mama’s or anyone looking for a new monitor.
Gwenalyn says
I made a wrap carrier for my little guy. I spent $28 (50% off coupon at Joann’s) and made two wraps from the 5.5 yards of fabric I bought. Trust me, having two wraps is wonderful. As you know, babies have blow outs and spit up incidents and having a backup is wonderful. http://randomrantingsofaramblingredhead.blogspot.com/2012/07/diy-baby-wrap.html People also sell beautiful hand made wraps on etsy.
I also looked into the angel care monitor but ended up with a Snuza Movement Monitor. I can travel with it, and I can put my little man to sleep in places other than his crib. It is wonderful, and I could not live without it. My daughter (who is 2) used it when she was an infant as well. So it has lasted through two kids so far and still works great! We have only had a couple false alarms, they were my fault for not securing it to the diaper well enough, but it’s a small price to pay to know your wee one is breathing. Last night the monitor started beeping like crazy (not a false alarm), and I was able to stir my little guy enough to get him breathing again. Scariest moment ever. 🙁 http://www.amazon.com/Snuza-Halo-Baby-Movement-Monitor/dp/B002ITOC7S/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1350337448&sr=1-1&keywords=snuza
I’m not sure how cold it gets where you are, but one thing I am so glad I made is a poncho for my little guy so he would be safe and warm in his car seat. Here’s what they look like (second picture). https://www.etsy.com/listing/110036401/childrens-fleece-poncho
I didn’t really get anything for my little guy, just clothes (mostly from thrift stores and hand me downs from friends). We already had a swing, bouncy seat, and activity center. They are all pink but I didn’t think a baby would mind. So far he seems to be okay with everything. Though his older brother (who is ten) get’s pretty upset with me when I put him in something pink. 😉
Sarah says
im due same time as you and after reading tons and tons of reviews i settled on the Snuza over the angelcare…its seems awesome!
Jessaca says
Love the Moby but I’ve heard good things about the ergo. Don’t do Bjorn or any other “crotch” carrier since they dangle the baby at the crotch, which isn’t good. Do you have anyone who could lend you their Moby? If not, let me know. I’ll lend you mine!
Susie says
try the Bjorn Air. its breathable, so easy to put on, and masculine enough that hubby wont mind wearing it!
Amanda Z. says
Please keep in mind that the Moby wrap is 12 FEET of fabric and is like origami for your body. And don’t even think about wearing it in the summer unless you like to suffocate. I would recommend trying it out before you buy it to see if you love/hate it.
If you are looking for a clamp on seat we have the Lobster from Phil & Ted and LOVE IT! It comes with a carry bag and tray and is great for eating out. Our son is almost 3 and still fits perfectly in it.

As a new mother of a 2.5 month old boy, I saw lots of similarities between your list and the things we use for our baby. We have the moby wrap and the swaddles and use both of them religiously! The moby is awesome for wearing around the house and the swaddles work great at night – the blankets are so light that we can double swaddle our little guy (he’s an escape artist!) and he doesn’t get overheated! We also have the angel care monitor and we had to disconnect the breathing monitor because it would go off all the time, even if baby was correctly positioned on it and breathing just fine. The monitor without the pad works great though! Congrats and good luck in the home stretch!
Alisa says
I completely agree with this suggestion! Our little lady started crawling in her sleep (yeah, before she could do it when she was awake- no, not creepy at all) and the sensor was able to pick her up all over the crib. But a couple times when I’ve changed her sheets, I’ve knocked one of the sensors to the middle of her crib and the alarm would sound because it couldn’t feel her. Scary sound, but so glad it works so well!!!
Kim says
OK, I love everything on your wishlist (esp. the wraps and Sophie… she’s such a sweetie. And they even have other versions of her!) except the Angel Care Monitor.
We had one and it was great for a few months…. until my son began moving around in his sleep. He would roll/wiggle/squirm off of the “mouse pad” motion sensor and the thing would go crazy with alarms going off because it couldn’t “sense” his breathing/movement. We eventually just turned the motion sensor off and then eventually the whole system crapped out. We returned it and for our $99 fancy-schmancy system, we got a $24.99 Fisher Price montior that we still use two years later.
Just a mini-review for ya.
PS… LOOOVE the earrings!

Our first born is 8 months and we researched every single type of movement monitor…. we ended up getting the Snuza Halo. BEST DECISION EVER. Super simple, effective, and doesn’t have to be callibrated and it travels to the swing, crib, pack and play, bassinet…. plus to grandmas. Just fold the top of the diaper a little, clip it on, and power up for sound sleeping for mom and dad. We had a few false alarms when it would wriggle loose… but I’d rather have that than nothing at all. I would 100000% recommend it. Best baby purchase.
Can’t wait to see this precious blessing!! Congrats!!

I just bought the red striped had for my baby. Just a few minutes after the husband told me NO MORE HATS! but it was on sale. And red.
Sophia says
We only used the sensor while he was in the bassinet and once we transitioned him to the crib we use it as a sound monitor only. We were less worried about him not breathing when he was small (<12 lbs). The bassinet was small enough that he never rolled off the pas so no false alarms.
I have the sleepy wrap which is like the Moby but stretchier and I loved it while my son was <10ish lbs (he came home at 5 lbs so this was a while). I could surf the web and actually do stuff while "holding" him (or in your case, while chasing a toddler). I used the ergo once he got to 12ish lbs which you might consider getting right off the bat since Will was on the larger side at birth…
We also loved the boppy lounger…

I’m obsessed with the giraffe. I wanted it for my daughter but never got it, so I am definitely buying it for my next child (as soon as I can get prego.. workin’ on it!). They actually have a set at Sam’s that includes it and like 2 other items for super cheap. Definitely worth looking into! Love all the other stuff… I used a wrap and my friend is obsessed with hers. They’re great. And you definitely need some jewelry. It’s been 3 years since my daughter was born and I’m still working on getting something…

I highly suggest a baby sling/carrier! Our baby was born in October and it was perfect for the fall and winter shielding them from the cold and germs. I used the Baby K’Tan and it was amazing!!!! There are several ways to wear it (5 ways). It’s MUCH easier than the Moby according to 3 friends of mine. 🙂

I loved the moby wrap and used it with my first kid when she was little. I transitioned to an Ergo carrier and found it more convenient. I was living in Colorado at the time and found it fit better with all the winter time layers. My second is 18 months old and I almost always used a ergo carrier. They are great!
If you still need a Moby wrap, I’d be totally willing to send you mine. It’s an olive green and comes with the bag and instructions. I probably used it under 10 times so it’s in great shape. I though about using it for my second, but I just loved the Ergo too much. Just let me know. No charge.
TE says
I have a 17 month old and we still use our Ergo all the time. I highly recommend it! Although I have heard that they are not as good for newborns, I didn’t get mine until she was a few months old.
We have the same train set for my son. We gave it to him for Christmas when he was about 2 and he played it with literally all day! Here is a video I took of him several hours into playing. I was trying to get him to stop and eat something and even the promise of chocolate wasn’t enough to get him to stop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyLgpPaZZ1w
Now, nearly 2 years later, he still plays with it several times a week. It is great!

I just had my second boy a month ago and was in the exact same place you are now. First time around the nursery was fully decorated and ready but this time? Ya still haven’t done much to it. Totally regretted not having a sling/wrap with #1 so I have 2 for this one. I got earrings Fromy hubs as a push present with only gentle suggestions. I didn’t have a moby wrap with my first and did a DIY one with my second LOVE it. Have been using it since she was a newborn and still use it often and she is 8 months old. I just bought 6 yards of jersey knit fabric and cut it in half….2 wraps for about $30. I borrowed a friend’s moby before making my own and the only difference is the moby tag. Oh…and those ADORABLE footed pants are possibly making me want a third…I will tell my husband it’s your fault. 🙂

Wraps: I love my wrap, but I hated the Moby! I have a big boy, he was 9.10 at birth. The Moby just did not work for us. The cotton was too stretchy and after 2 second, B would be slipping out! I have this one: http://www.etsy.com/shop/snugbugwraps. It’s a linen/cotton blend and it’s a yard shorter than the Moby which is nice so you don’t have to wrap and wrap and wrap. And wrap. In any case, wraps are awesome, have fun! Also, Sophie is a lot of fun–she squeaks, Tots did not know that at first!

Katie, thank you so much for sharing this list! I’m going to get the lovey blanket for my son, even though he’s already 14months old. Hopefully he takes to it well. And I really like that train set, I may get him that for his 2nd birthday next summer.
I hope you don’t mind me sharing a few of my experiences with some things on your list.
– Sophie: got this for my son when he was 3 months old, and thought it was the best thing ever. It only lasted about 2 months before it broke (and he didn’t even have teeth yet). The rubber split and it became a choking hazard. Have you ever seen a deflated ballon that had a gash in it? That’s how it looked. I’ve since read other reviews that stated the back leg got lodged in the baby’s throat and the baby couldn’t breathe. Please be careful with Sophie!
– Aden and Anais Bamboo swaddle blankets: I got these and they felt sooooo soft, like you were wrapped in a cloud. Unfortunately, after like the second washing, they got horribly pilled, to the point that they weren’t as soft as when you first took them out the box and they looked horrible. I don’t usually complain to companies, but I called Diapers.com about it (that’s where I bought it from) and told them I wanted a refund. They refunded my money and let me keep the blankets. NOTE: the regular Aden and Anais blankets are wonderful! I got this set and 14 months later they still look brand new: http://www.amazon.com/aden-anais-Muslin-Swaddle-Jungle/dp/B002SW3B0O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1350350145&sr=8-1&keywords=Aden+Anais+swaddle . I got the Mod About Baby print.

I agree with some of the others – the last thing I want to be doing while trying to keep a toddler nearby is trying to tie on the Moby, or really any kind of wrap. Plus, hot like no other…. I ended up with a CatBirdBaby.com Pikkolo. I.LOVE.it. And so does my little gal. It’s lightweight, all easy-to-use buckles (so no awkward tying), I can roll it up and store it in a little pouch in the car, my husband will wear it, it comes in super cute patterns, is very well made, and baby can forward face to 20lbs and then backpack it till 40lbs (plus other positions). It’s a combined mei tai and ergo – best of both worlds. Check out the Whitney pattern. (ps – I don’t work for them or anything, I just really really liked mine). PPS Adore those hats!

Oh yes, my son slept in this from when he was 3 weeks old until he outgrew it at around 4.5 months old. I would have gotten zero sleep without this. And it was nice to put him in it when we were in the living room so he could be more at our seating level.

Moby wraps are great til about 15 pounds of baby and it starts to sag and hurt your back! Also you can’t wear your baby in a moby on your back! I’m about to tell you about awesome wraps! Google didymos, natibaby they are woven wraps and are awesome! Also gooogle local baby wearing mamas in your city and see if anything pops up to show a whole new world of wraps and carriers!!

Definitely try the bamboo version of the A&A swaddle blankets. They’re so so so soft and just fabulous. They were one of the only things I bought for baby #2 (I have two boys as well) and well worth every penny spent! Naturallittleone.com had the best prices I found anywhere- even cheaper than Amazon.
I don’t know if you have a Ergo already and just want a different wrap, but if you don’t have an Ergo, I highly recommend it. I use mine all the time and love it. It’s so easy, it fits both me and my husband with little work, and both our boys loved spending time in it. I really wanted the Moby until I read lots of reviews saying they were pretty complicated to put on. There are lots of people who love them though, so if you can borrow one for a week or two, that would be the best way to get a feel for what you really want. I’ve also heard that you can easily make one yourself.
I bought baby ugg boots and it was a complete waste of $$. They never stayed on no matter what I did. I was so sad 🙁

I just recently read your birth story for Will and it read like the birth of my first daughter, unplanned cesarean birth. With my second daughter, born this past June we had a VBAC by using the Bradley method. I thought I read somewhere on here that you were planning on a VBAC. From someone who did that, I think it’s the best. I know this has nothing to do with your post, but I sometimes forget that you’re preggers when I read posts about your kitchen! All the to say, you can do it! Deciding to have a VBAC was one of the best decisions. Not that my first daughter’s birth wasn’t amazing, but going all natural was unreal. And since you did labor with Will, this labor will be a lot shorter. My second daughter was born 1 hour after we arrived at the hospital. Okay, I’m done being completely random.

Great list! I had registered for the original Sophie and I ended up getting the teething ring one instead. (http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/gifts/Sophie-The-Giraffe-Teething-Ring/3056562003185-item.html?ref=item_page:richrel)
And I am so glad I did. Not only is it adorable, my son loved chewing on it. He still plays with it. Many friends have the original and it squeaks loudly and my son was a bit afraid of it!
Just a thought!

You might try a Wrapsody wrap instead of the Moby. I love their stretch-hybrid. I had the Alyssa color and it was gorgeous. I lusted after Stella, but it was out of stock when I wanted to buy. It’s lighter weight then the Moby, yet stronger, so it lasts longer (the Moby isn’t as supportive when they get bigger). http://www.wrapsodybaby.com/shop/stretch.php I truly think it was worth the extra money. And it holds its value. I sold it for maybe $10 less than what I paid for it.
My little one loved Sophie and I just gave it to a friend at her baby shower this weekend. I cried a bit inside when I bought it myself since it IS a bit pricey for a teether, but so worth it. And so it’s now my go-to baby shower gift.
Nicole H. says
Actually, for the wrap, there’s a few places online that do rentals. Awesome way to see if you’d actually like a carrier before plunking down money. http://paxbaby.com/
After I had the Wrapsody Bali Breeze, I bought a Beco Gemini. Super easy carrier and you should see some of the prints, they are gorgeous.
Kim@NewlyWoodwards says
Oh my, that baby sweatshirt. And those moccasins? MUST BE MINE. I don’t know what people are smoking when they say baby boy stud isn’t as cute. I mean, seriously? Also, we loved the Moby wrap and I used it a ton during my maternity leave. It was really nice when I wanted to, I don’t know, do something and Henry refused to let me set him down. The audacity of wanting to clean the house. Or more accurately, make a snack and put in a new DVD.
Brandy says
Since you are a DIY-er you really should make your own baby carrier. Wraps are incredibly simple, ring slings are easy, and they have tutorials online for any other kind you may want. It is so nice to pick whatever fabric you want and save a small fortune. It is crazy what they charge for some of those carriers! Especially when they are just a long piece of fabric. I know you will be crunched for time, but you can find no sew versions of the moby tutorials online that will get you through until your baby weighs too much for that typre of carrier.
Chris says
I second the Rock and Play Sleeper. I used it for #2 as a napping spot or just somewhere to set him down while I was tending to my other little boy. It is so easy to move around and even throw in the car for grandmas house.
I too am a swaddler. But my 9 lbs + newborn was like the hulk about 10 minutes after I had him firmly tucked in. I tried a Woombie (check Amazon) and never had to fumble with wrapping again. Super easy to zip up – diaper changes were a breeze – even kept him swaddled for the middle of the night feedings. It is my go to new mom gift now.
I am excited for you – two little boys are the best!

I know you are going to get a lot of comments like “this is what worked for us!” and “I couldn’t have lived without…” but seriously I couldn’t have lived without my Sleepy Wrap (basically the same thing as a Moby Wrap) with my daughter. As she got older though we bought a more structured carrier (a Beco Gemini) and I’m glad we did because baby #2 is a big boy (17 lbs. at 3.5 months!) and a bit too much for the wrap carrier. The Beco works so much better with him. And in a pinch I can still carry my 2 year old daughter in it too on my back. She loves that. 🙂
Also, just to let you know, the wrap style of carriers are very hot in the summer. That’s another reason why I haven’t used mine with my second child this summer. The Beco lets more air through and we’re both much happier. 🙂
I also didn’t know anything about the Aden & Anais swaddlers with my first but am SOOOOO glad I discovered them with my second. I don’t care how much they cost…they are life savers in more ways than one. They are so soft and perfect for this hot/humid weather we have in Florida. I bought two cheaper brand muslin swaddlers and honestly the fabric isn’t as soft and the threads tend to pull easier than the Aden & Anais ones. Definitely worth the money.

A lot of my friends swear by the angel care monitor, I think it would make me more paranoid. I used to go to sleep with my girl gagging on her reflux and just praying.
ALL baby pants should have feet. Socks are silly!

Yet another vote for Sophie…she is the best! My two-year-old had one from about 3 weeks on, and he STILL loves squeaking her! 🙂 She’s just so cute. (And yes, she is kind of a glorified dog toy, but she is a WONDERFUL and adorable glorified dog toy!)
But I’ll also add a vote against the Moby wrap. I’m a babywearer and adore wearing both of my sons (26 months and 5 months), but if I’d just stopped at the Moby, I would have given up. It is SO much fabric, so difficult, and so uncomfortable and hot. I hated it. Also, it’s unsafe after your baby hits 15 lbs, and you can’t do back carries in it.
I’m personally not a wrapping mama anyway (I had a Didymos Katja, and while lovely, it took too long to put on), but I absolutely adore my BabyHawk mei tai. It is so easy; you can put it on in a minute in a parking lot and carry your little baby or toddler, and it’s nice and cool and also looks fantastic. I also love ring slings, especially for little babies. I have a wrap conversion ring sling (Girasol Ambrosia) that I had converted by Sleeping Baby Productions, and it is fantastic. Highly, highly recommend doing a quick Google for the different methods of babywearing and seeing if you can find something that is your style that might be of use a little longer than the Moby.
…And no, you don’t forget that you’re wearing them. 😉 It’s extra weight, extra bulk, and you’re aware even though you can also get things done. A lot like still being pregnant, actually, especially with a little baby in a front carry. You never walk your pregnant belly into a wall, and you never bang your baby on a wall. As a mom, you just know where s/he is. 🙂

I have the moby wrap and LOVE… i repeat… LOVE IT!!! I just had my 3rd child 4 months ago and could not live without it. I wear it to baseball games, to the park, to the mall, around the house, outside, on a walk, soccer games, to target (i think you get the point). It took a little while to get used to it and to be comfortable wrapping it easily, but now I feel like a PRO. I have even learned to feed her in it! AWESOME! I tried a sling the other day just because they are cheaper and I didn’t feel like she was secure enough for me. You will find a sling/wrap/carrier that you are comfortable with and go with that! I love the closeness it provides!
Saskia says
I love your list and will definitely keep it in mind for my next pregnancy 😉
I can highly recommend the Moby Wrap – I frequently used it over the last 11 months and my daughter Charlotte loves it! With a little practice you can also use it as a Sling or on the back, there are tons of great tutorials on YouTube!
We also used Sophie but in Germany there is a big recall campaign on some modells “due to a violation of statutory limit values for nitrosatable substances” you can find a english link with some details here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sophie_the_Giraffe

Love your blog! It’s so funny because almost all the things on your wishlist, I got for my second. It’s so funny how different we are with the first child to the second. Do you do the mommy guilt thing about not being so crazy the second time around? If so, it doesn’t stop after you have #2…BUT having a family of 4 is so great. It feels complete. Having one child feels like an accessory after having two ;-). I have the Stella & Dot earrings because I am a stylist! I wear these earrings almost every other day. I am sure that others have wanted to ask but just haven’t yet so I am being brave and just putting it out there.

We had an Angel Care monitor for our first son and we bought a second one when our daughter was born. It was worth every single penny. We bring it with us when we travel, go to granparents houses and even at daycare. (because let’s face it, if you’re paranoid that your baby might stop breathing, you’ll be paranoid wherever they are sleeping). It works wonderfully, but one of the best features is that you can activate is to not hear the low level noises a baby makes like grunts and wiggling around. There isn’t that horrible white noise that most moniters make either. It will definitely alert you if the baby stops breathing. All in all, it’s an amazing product!
Becca says
I have the AngelCare monitor and I LOVE it. My husband thinks the fact that I got a monitor with a movement sensor makes me a crazy person, but it eases my mind. I also love the A&A swaddle blankets. A must have and totally worth the money. For the A&A blankets, I was told to make sure to get the ones that are 47×47. More expensive, but from what I’ve heard the smaller ones aren’t as soft and as good of quality as the 47×47 ones.

JustAng says
Congrats, Katie. Home stretch! Here’s a stranger’s thoughts on some of your list. 🙂
We have the Angelcare. I love it and it gave me peace of mind. (You can turn the ticking noise off, but I found it comforting.) The only hard part for us were the number of false alarms. Our baby was one who liked to smush herself into the corners of the crib….or sleep up on her knees. The sensor couldn’t register the breathing and the alarm went off…A LOT. After many a mad dash into the room (waking the baby in the process), I finally gave up and turned it off. But I still say it was crucial (for me) for the first few (pre-rolling) months.
Along with 658,987 other people, I have the Sophie. If baby grows to love it, you may wanna buy a backup (as expensive as they are for what my husband calls a “glorified dog toy.” haha) I saw a mother freaking out in an airport because she left Sophie on the plane. Her baby was in full meltdown mode and you’re not gonna find a substitute in the gift shop.
Another vote for the swaddling cloths. We sucked at swaddling, but we still used the cloths all the time (and still do)…as makeshift nursing covers in a pinch shades for the stroller, etc.
Cocoon: Bought one off etsy. Spent way too much. Regrets. None. Kiddo was the cutest and you can never get those teeny tiny days back.
I’ve had lots of Moby-waering friends, but it wasn’t for me. Too complicated and I felt like the baby was more smothered than secure. Check out the Beco Gemini. It’s great! Baby can face in or out! Bjorn and Ergos are only inwards (I think).
We have a hook-on chair, but honestly, I use our grocery cart/high chair cover more. Keeps all the extra grossness at bay. And easier to just throw in the car. That being said, the chair has come in handy for camping!
Also, we used those headphones when we were visiting Georgia and went to Stone Mountain last month. Kiddo slept through the fireworks/lazer show. And you know how loud that is!

I dont’ normally comment on blogs, but I saw the earmuffs and just chuckled out loud. My second son was born when my older son was four. My new precious baby had colic AND hated to travel in the car. So there was A LOT of crying going on (his and mine). Once I went back to work and they went to a daycare, we had about a 40 minute commute each way. My father in law found some old landscaper earmuffs for my older son to play with and they actually became a LIFESAVER!! My older son wore them in the car when he just couldn’t take it anymore. 🙂 I am sure we got some strange looks from other people as we drove along with a screaming babay in one seat and a peaceful, ear muff wearing child in the other!!
Anne says
The angel care monitor is probably the only reason I get sleep. My little girl has reflux and knowing that if she stopped moving the alarm would go off eased my fears enough for me to actually get rest after an unplanned c-section.
I tried the Moby wrap and sold it. She never felt secure in there to me and it was heavy and HOT. We now use the Maya wrap ring sling and the Ergo. She now likes the Ergo, however she hated it when she could use the infant insert so it was never used. She mostly just likes our arms haha.
For swaddling I loved the Halo Sleep Sacks. https://www.halosleep.com/ I could never swaddle her tight enough for the blanket to stay on. They have velcro and was the only way I could get her to sleep on her back. If her arms were free she would roll right over on her tummy at 3 weeks!
Another thing-if you will be breastfeeding get the Brest Friend pillow. Seriously the only way my little girl could eat! It is firm and since she was on the tiny side she would fall into the hole the boppy created around my still large belly 🙂 The pillow also clips on so it doesn’t move if she’s squirmy! http://www.mybrestfriend.com/

I love that you are plannign to wear #2. It allowed me so much freedom being able to wear my daughter while chasing and playing with my 2 year old son. I highly suggest you find your local babywearing group either via facebook or The Babywear website as these women (and men) will be a huge help in helping you navigate the confusing and exciting world of wraps, slings and structured carriers. My 2nd little guy hated the Moby. He didn’t like being swaddled either, so I didn’t get to buy the A&A blankets like I planned. 🙁 But I would recommend checking out babywearing groups or stores in your community. I went to a class and came home with a Maya Wrap ring sling. My “never wants to be put down” baby #2 loves it.

I would use a boba stretchy wrap instead of a moby. Its not as hot as a Moby plus it doesn’t sag and get stretched out. So you can tie in on in the morning and wear it all day if you wanted. And the Angelcare monitors are tricky to use if you plan on having a fan on near a sleeping baby. Or another person breathing. Or the washing machine running. We bought one and returned it because it picks up everything as the baby breathing! Try the snuza instead. It clips to your kid and monitors just their breathing. You can even bed share and use it!
Amy says
I’ve heard lots of great things about the moby. So, i really don’t think you can go wrong with it. We decided to get the Mai Tai and Ergo-LOVE THEM! You really could just have 1, but the Mai Tai is a little girly, so needed to get a little manlier one for the husband! Baby #3 is due for us in April and i’m still having fun adding more things to the list that we skipped out on for baby #2. Taggie blanket, toys for the car seat handle, grass bottle dryer, & baby monitors (never had one before!). Huge congrats to your family!!

My tots love the Geo Trax Trains! They are very durable and grow with them as they get older. My boys are 4 and 1 and they both love them…and so does my 10 year old neighbor!

Katie. This post cracked me up. Apparently we’re on the same wavelength. I had boy #1 January 2009 and boy #2 May 2011. I felt the same way about not needing anything… then I saw all the cool stuff that had come out in that 28-month-interim. So for boy #2 I got (and loved)… Sophie the giraffe, a Moby wrap, Aden + Anais blankets and of course a few new irresistibly cute outfits. So funny.
Also, I have used the AngelCare Monitor for both of them. It is my #1 most essential baby recommendation. It gave me so much peace and security, especially since, as it turned out, neither of those boys would sleep for ONE solitary second laying on their backs.
Good luck the next few weeks! I’m excited for you to experience this joy of brothers. Nothing better, in my opinion. 🙂

I love this so much. Our little one just turned 9 months and I used a lot of these things. We had the angelcare monitor and it was the only way I allowed him to sleep in his own room…however, after the 4th middle of the night false alarm, we ditched the under mattress sensor and use it for sound only. I LOVE our Moby wrap and still use it even with our 16 pound little man. It was perfection when he was little, especially during those colder months. I also love Sophie. She’s fantastic. I echo the need for wubbanubs. Ours save the day – Wesley LOVES them. Also, we love the trumpette socks. EXPENSIVE for sure, but super cute and they stay on little feet. Of course they don’t stay on anymore – my kid has a sock in his mouth in 5 seconds flat… But when he was itty bitty, they were the only ones that didn’t fall off.
Praying for you!

Hi katie: I received the angel care monitor as a gift with my first baby. She’s 2 and we now have a 1 month old! Get ready- it’s crazy with 2! Anyhow, we used the Angel care monitor once. Love love love my moby…as in couldn’t live without it. My little guy has been colicky and it’s the only place he sleeps! And he is a big’un – 10 lb 14oz when he was born, 19 lbs at 3.5 mos! My husband loves it too – really nice that we can both wear it. And maybe it’s because I put it on everyday but it’s really not hard to use!

Nathan had a Sophie when he was little. He loved it and even still plays with it at 2 years old! I also had a Moby Wrap for him too even though we didnt get it until he was 3 months. It was a lifesavor and my husband would wear Nathan sometimes too. I know they have now said that some of the carries aren’t safe anymore so heads up on that. I know when we have this next baby I’m going to get a ring sling that I think will be MUCH easier! Good luck! I love reading you blog and facebook!

I would love that. Like a lot! I was nervous about the paranoia too…so it would be great to give it a try without making a huge investment.

Also if you buy a SafeT Wrap, no need to buy AngelCare Monitor that comes with 2 sensor pads as baby stays in place. You can use for newborns-toddlers too.

I tried the Moby wrap and HATED it (said with passion!).
It’s a super-long piece of fabric that you have to wrap all around your body while holding the baby. I ended up dragging it all over the floor while trying to do it…and I’m average height at 5’6″! If I was leaving the house, I’d have to wrap it at home beforehand, because I couldn’t do that in the car or in the store entryway with a toddler to watch too.
I got myself an Infantino carrier instead (I forget the name…maybe “Swing”?), that the baby can sit both facing you and away in. It was amazing. Easy in, easy out…a couple snaps and you’re done! Plus, it’s fully adjustable while it’s still on you. And you can wear it while you’re going to the bathroom (don’t judge me). Since it’s not an extra piece of the fabric, like the Moby, you and the baby don’t get as hot/sweaty.

I had a moby for my first, it was great…a lot of material and took a while to get the hang of but once you do it was great. However there is a similar product baby k’tan http://www.babyktan.com/
it is the same idea with less material, seems easier to put on and carry around. I am now preggo with #2 (attempting vbac too) and considering getting this but finding it hard to justify since I already have the moby. Let us know what you get!!

Don’t get a hook-on high chair! They are the worst–heavy, cumbersome, ridiculously difficult to clean (seriously, after 5 minutes of using that thing, your baby will be sitting in much more filth than in a restaurant’s chair and wrestling that cover on and off to throw it in the wash is a serious undertaking). If it still doesn’t sound like a big deal, just remember that you will be lugging around a diaper bag again and will still have to make sure #1 doesn’t dash into traffic.
If you really need something for when you’re away from your house, may I suggest something like this? I always wanted one, but couldn’t justify it since I had that darn hook-on one 🙂

LOVE my Angel Care monitor. It works great! I sleep easier knowing it will detect if my little one isn’t breathing. I’ve used it for both of my nuggetts. The oldest is now three and the little guy is 4 months.
I also love the Aden and Anais blankets. I got one as a shower gift for my first (now 3 years). I loved it so much, I wanted more. But they were a little pricey and available only online. Now, Aden & Anais is at Target!! They have a 4 pack of the blankets for about $40. It still seems a bit pricey but it’s SOOO WORTH IT! They also have burp cloths and sleep sacks.

Get the solly baby wrap!
Super comfy and easy once you get the hang of it. aaaand you’ll be helping out another momma (the maker of them) when you buy it, instead of a big company.

If you wants some DIY goodness, you can make your own Moby. I made mine from a 5 1/2 yard piece of Jersey knit fabric…I cut it down the middle. There were a bunch of tutorials out there about fancier ways to cut it or to make it a certain length but I actually prefer the extra 8 inches of width. It’s much cheaper and it works great. I think I paid somwhere around $20 for two. Plus, you can always give the extra away for a gift.

Yeah! I have enjoyed your blog for so long that it is my pleasure to send you the lovie and to see Will enjoying his. I will send you the racoon as soon as your new guy arrives or you post his name (whichever comes first). You can tell Will it is from him. 🙂 I bet he would love that.
PS. Your post today was a great one!

I’m a first time mom and have found myself to be so neurotic about making sure my baby is breathing! I was going to buy the Angel Care mat until a friend told me about the Snuza. Let me tell u I love it and could not live without it!! It’s a small device you clip onto the baby’s diaper or pants and it monitors their breathing, if they stop breathing after 15 seconds it sets an alarm. The great thing is that you can use it anywhere, instead of the mat which is usually set in the crib. So it doesn’t matter where my baby sleeps/naps, I can take the Snuza with us, even if we are traveling. Check it out: http://www.snuza.com/ (you just have to make sure it’s clipped on correctly, it fell off 2x and the alarm sounded, giving us a heart attack!)
My baby also LOVES the Moby and hates the Baby Bjorn. The only problem with the Moby is that it is so long that I put it on at home so it doesn’t touch the dirty floor outside when I’m trying to put it on. We love the Aden & Anais blankets, we use them all the time! Sophie is also a hit around here.
We also purchased the Homedics Soundspa Lullaby sounds and projection. It’s been a lifesaver, no more having to rock my baby to sleep for ever, only to wake up the minute we put her down. Now we kiss her goodnight, set her in the bassinet, turn on the lullaby’s and projector, and she smiles watching the images on the wall…and like magic falls asleep. http://www.homedics.com/baby/soundspa-with-6-sounds-projection.html

Your wish list is fabulous! I would like to add my two cents tho- the fabric baby carriers. Wearing your baby is amazing! I wear my little guy (3 months old this Friday- how he heck did that happen??!!) everyday!! It’s amazing how much you can actually get done while being snuggelly close to your baby! Plus, they sleep forEVER on the wraps! I started wearing my LO when he was about two weeks and I’m so thankful that I did and still do! Oh yeah, I had a point (new mom brain)- the knit fabric carriers are stretchy and with this- they start to sag over wearing. You will have to adjust, retie, my LO hate the “downward creep”. I have switched to a woven carrier (the same style as the two listed in your wish list- solid, long piece of fabric). With the woven fabric it doesn’t stretch or sag down. I bought the girasol 4.5m (is the size). And absolutely love it!! I also have the baby k’tan (knit, stretch soft carrier- like the moby but without all the tying). But only use that for quick carries- ie running into post office. Good luck!! Can’t wait to see you new little baby!! Oh ps I just adore you and have been reading your blog for two plus years- just because we don’t comment doesn’t mean we aren’t here 🙂 xoxo

Please go to amazon and read the reviews for Sophie the giraffe before you get one. It is eye opening to see the choking risk of such a popular toy. I was set on buying her for my second child until I read those. And though I was a hawk w my first child it is much easier to get distracted with two kids to keep my eyes on.

I have the angelcare monitor….love it! Just make sure to remove it when baby starts to move around a lot. False alarms suck! Lol. I didn’t have the Aden and anais swaddlers either, but I’d love some for the next baby. My daughter has the H&M sweater you’ve shown above…I love it. It’s so soft and comfy and washes really well! Love H&M baby stuff!

I just had my 3rd baby and had never heard of the aiden&anais blankets before either. They’re awesome. I still use our old swaddler with the Velcro at night but I take the a&a blankets everywhere. I tie two corners and pop it over my head to nurse under. It’s awesome to have the 2-in-1 going on and not worry about bringing my nursing cover everywhere. They are also really absorbent-goodbye spit up! Oh and btw I’m wearing those earrings right now : ) you have great taste Mrs. Bower! Congrats on EVERYTHING!!’

When our #2 came along, we actually got LESS stuff. We even downsized the diaper bag (even though we had 2 in diapers and used cloth!). I guess two kids was enough to deal with – I didn’t want more “stuff”. 🙂
We used a hook-on high chair with #2 – the Phil & Ted’s model – it’s excellent. Plus, it folds flat for travel. We actually got rid of our high chair all together and just used this at home. (Like I said – less stuff was our mantra.) http://www.amazon.com/phil-teds-Metoo-Highchair-Black/dp/B000H6R0T6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1350655527&sr=8-3&keywords=phil+and+ted+high+chair
Best advice anyone could have given me for #2: It’s HARD. You now have twice as many people who need your time. I don’t know why no one told me. I cried and wondered what I was doing wrong until one day I just decided it really is hard and I shouldn’t feel like a bad mom for having to learn to adjust.
So excited for your new addition!!!

Did you know aden + anais make bamboo blankets? They feel like silk they are so unbelievably soft. Absolutely worth the extra moola. They’re burpy bibs are awesome too. I’ml ike you and I just had my 2nd boy so nothing to buy really, but I treated myself to soe a+a stuff just cause 🙂 Good luck on your VBAC too! I went for one, but once again, found out in labor that my little guy was breach. Blerg. I really hope you get yours cause recovery sucked, esp not being able to cuddle and pick up my 2 yr old.

I highly recommend the ikea high chair! super easy to clean (no fabric to worry about) and it fits in with any decor! Great with the tray on for babies and then once they are 2+ you can use it right at the table without the tray!

I loved three of your thing for your list that I had 2 of 3 for my first and blessed to have for my second and then also…..the things my second hated. Here it is:
1. Loved the AngelCare for both kids. Still use it and my young one is 17 months. I am way paranoid.
2. Love Sophie the giraffe. 17 bucks for a squeaker? I bought a second with Madi when the first was lost….and then reappeared shortly after. Oh well. She still squeaks them. Non. Stop. Squeaking. Cuteness.
3. Didn’t have a Moby wrap, but a Baby K’Tan. Oh. my. gawsh. Loved it. both kids, two free hands. It is a beautiful thing.
Happy for you guys. My kids are 3 years to the day apart—May 2nd babies—– 2008 and 2011. Let’s just say Nate ( my son who has to share his birthday with his little sis) is going to have to deal with Madi/Mads (who was LATE by 4 days to hold out for her bros 3rd bday) for a VERY long time (so it felt) for the rest of his life. Bless his heart. And mine. They are best friends. Oh, and don’t worry, WIll will adjust to new baby. I cried thinking I had ruined Nate’s life because things felt so complicated suddenly. Just RELAX. Baby is easier, but balancing emotions (yours and both kids and hubs) can be overwhelming. Be the Little Engine That Could. You can. You will.
Inspired by your blog. I have 2— one for my classroom and one for my fam.

We had an older version of the Angel Care monitor when my four year old was a baby. LOVED it.

To help my first son deal with having a baby around, we actually bought him a doll. That’s what people do with little girls, so why not with a boy? I let him pick it out and then whenever he wanted to have control over the baby (since he wants control of everything) I would tell him that he could take care of his baby and I would take care of mine. That way he had something indestructible to manhandle, feed, change, put to sleep, tell off (if he was frustrated), etc. It worked really well for my little control freak.
Also, I really wanted a wrap with my second but never got it. I think it would have helped me, so I say get one!
Sarah says
I agree about it being hard to have a second and needing to give yourself grace. Two kids isn’t twice as hard, it’s four times as hard, for some reason! But it is nice to have “do-overs” and a chance to be more chill about some things with the second one than you were the first time. And if you get your VBAC, it brings a lot of physical and emotional healing.

haha…you know what’s funny – Will’s little ‘baby’ is a stuffed lamb and he thinks he gets to feed him and bathe him and put him in time-out. I was surprised to hear him one day tell Baby that he shouldn’t be eating candy because it will give him booboos in his teeth 🙂 I love when kids translate what we do 🙂

After losing my first baby at stillbirth – (you edited that beautiful pic of her …still cherish it Katie) my hubby and I were understandably paranoid when we welcomed our son. We got the Angel Care and thought we were loving it. We found the ticking indicating his breathing to be soothing and helped us not to get out of bed a hundred times a night to make sure he was okay. But one night, at a feeding, we lifted him out of the crib and forgot to turn off the monitor. It continued to make breathing ticking noises. I felt I had been duped into the false sense of security. We determined the fan – a SIDS preventive technique – was causing the super sensitive monitor to think he was breathing. We tried everything to adjust the sensitivity and nothing worked. Eventually we got the Snuza diaper band to use. And I loved it!!! It isn’t a monitor but I can use it anywhere to make sure he is breathing (we use with wen we travel, in the bassinet or PNP, etc.). Then we just use a regular audio monitor. Also – although I like the mobywrap – I also found it difficult to use if not at home and got the Ergo Organic carrier – spendy but amazing! Both the hubby and I use it and baby still loving it at 10 months.

Love the Baby K’tan! It soooo easy to put on and my 1 month old loves it. Now I can have both hands free and hold her :). While I haven’t tried the Moby wrap, I’ve heard that is is quite hard to put on on the fly (i.e. public place, screaming baby, lot of fabric). The K’tan takes literally seconds to put on. I highly recommend it!
Eleanor@SavingOurWay says
I second the Snuza monitor. We used the Baby Sense V bed monitor with our first. It worked well to provide peace of mind but there were moments of false alarms when she got big enough to move some at night, plus we couldn’t travel with it. The Snuza is great (we have the Go! version). Can be used anywhere anytime. Love the peace of mind!
