My little guy started preK. Can you even?!
It was just yesterday that I was pregnant with him. I think technically it wasn’t even yesterday…it was like three hours ago. And now he is in the last year before Kindergarten…real school…all day every day school. I am seriously in shock over it. He is growing way too fast.
This year we snapped his first day of school photo on our front porch and he loved making his silly excited faces. His hair was crazy and we were super busy with house guests but this is very very Will.
He actually wore the same shorts he wore last year for his first day. That wasn’t intentional…but it does show how much bigger he has gotten. The toddler legs are definitely gone and now he has ‘kid legs’. He likes to brag that they have hair now. He doesn’t even know about puberty yet…I’m sure that will be the best day ever when he finds out 🙂
This year I wanted to start asking him certain questions and track the answers. I ask him these questions all the time for videos (just so I can hear him talk) but since I know it gets harder to remember to actually do it, I thought the first day of school each year would be a good tradition. The answers are very funny to me. Also…last time I asked him what Jeremy did for work, he said “feed the ducks. pet the ducks. take care of all the ducks.” And apparently William has heard that Jesus has a middle name.
My plan is to do this same interview every year with the boys and make a book. One day their answers should be great to embarrass the kids…which ya know…it’s my goal in life.

What a great idea. Not too late to start when mine are in seventh and third grades?? Dang, I wish I had thought to do this! I burst out laughing at what he thinks Jeremy’s job is now.

This is so adorable! I can’t believe how big he’s gotten, I’ve been reading for years, love watching your family grow! My Mom always says she regrets not having home videos because she can’t hear our voices, so I’m sure you’ll treasure those videos forever. And the book is an awesome idea too! I’m going to share it with my sister for my nephew 🙂

Love his future dream job- ‘all by ourselves’ – how sweet! And what a cute idea to ask them what their mommy and daddy’s jobs are, funny to see the answers 🙂

I understand the heartache all too well… well.
My baby started preschool last week and my middle baby started kindergarten. It’s so tough to watch the years sleep by!
Good luck mama…

Love it! That just made me LOL at work! 🙂 I wish I had started the questions tradition too! I have a secret tradition….I secretly take the Dr. Suess book Oh The Places You’ll Go to all of their teachers and get them to write someting on the pages and sign. I attach a picture of the teacher and my daughter/son. I started with Pre-K and will give it as a gift on graduation! Let’s hope I can remember to keep it up! 🙂

That is adorable! I have a 4 yo son too and he cracks me up! I love doing interviews with him.

I love the comparison shots! You can tell he has gotten bigger not only from his shorts, but also from the bricks behind him too! Last year he was ~15.5 bricks, now he’s almost 17 bricks tall! 🙂 Good growing boys. So cute, Katie!

I love your idea of asking the same questions each year and tracking the answers, totally going to do that with my son! He is only 11 weeks old tho so it’s gonna be a while before he can talk…

He is just the most delightful little man

Uh, I thought he had been in preschool this whole time lol. Whoops!

Adorable! Absolutely adorable. And also I think we need another post on sources/favorites for little boy clothes. Your 3 have the best outfits. Where did those shoes in the pre-k photo come from??
Lauren says
That is adorable – fantastic idea!
Katie says
Thank you!
The shoes are from Target 🙂

Super cute pictures! I know they grow way too fast. I do something similar with my two girls on there birthdays. My plan is to ask the same questions each year around that time.

I’m not a big commenter, but I laughed when I saw Will’s responses about Jesus’ middle name. And here I thought my parents just picked my name out of thin air … turns out, I was named for Jesus. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

Awwww. He’s getting so big! My oldest turned 4 back in June and I’ve been asking her a few of the same questions since she turned 3 last year. I can’t wait to see how her answers change over the years.
I had a question. I know you were homeschooled. Do you plan on homeschooling your little ones at any point? I was homeschooled as well (homeschoolers unite!) and we plan on teaching ours at home (we have 2 “so far”). My major in college before I changed it was elementary education so I’ve always looked forward to teaching my own some day.
My post about my daughter turning 4:

I don’t know! I have made no plans either way. I guess in my head, we will just take it one year at a time.

His answers were adorable! All Dad does is cut his hair, so funny. I know people say that kids grow up fast. But you really feel it and see it when you have your own. I adore getting to know my kids more as they get older. Learning their personalities, but knowing I wont ever get those little hugs, tiny voices, or moments with them as babies is sad. I have two in preschool and one in first grade. I don’t know how to be a Mom to big kids, I have always had a crew of littles. I feel your pain!

I was thinking the same thing Heather!!

I have a similar book I made on shutterfly for my daughter to fill out on her birthday. I started it when she was 4 and she is 8 now so it’s fun to see how some answers change and some like what she wants to be when she grows up: “a stay at home mom” have stayed the same. Love that you will have this tradition for all your boys as well.
