I am the girl that waited till the 38th week of pregnancy hits to get maternity photos taken. Yes. So I can fully document how huge I have become. Most gals are sensible enough to schedule pictures documenting ‘the glow’. But not me. No. I wait till this glowing gal becomes a super nova (or am I the black hole of food).
Anyhoo. I bribed my little sister (she’s a doll who is super talented at pretty much everything…including being AWESOME) to come over and shoot some photos. It was made very clear that she was to do her best to make me look as pretty as possible. And I am uber-pleased with the results. You wanna see? No judging please 🙂 I am very vulnerable right now. (vulnerable means jiggly…right?)
Most of the photos were shot in the woods behind our house. We have a creek back there and it was perfect for a country inspired shoot. I also pulled Jeremy away from Call of Duty long enough for a few pics in the yard.
Lori (my lil’ sis) used my camera – it’s a Canon Rebel XSi and my new 50 mm lens (remember I got it for Christmas?). Yeah. Most times I would dang her for her quick learning skills…but in this case, I fall to my knees and thank goodness that she can pick up a camera and do amazing.
Anyone else out there schedule a photo shoot a little past their prime? Or maybe you also climbed out on a fallen tree over a shallow creek nine months pregnant? Let me tell ya…combine the fact that it is pretty much impossible to move with the fact that the photographer is getting attacked by giant weeds and the trickling noise of the creek…and well, let’s just say that Kegels do not prepare you enough.
Susan says
Honey, you are so gorgeous!

Sherrie says
Very lovely. Life in progress is amazing. In other news, I home delivered our firstborn, a son, on Friday. Carving out a little time for myself while he’s sleeping, I mean besides the Sitz Baths–you’ll know what this is sono enough if you don’t already.
Delivering naturally as the midwife said it would, caused me to come to “the end of myself.” But at the end of yourself comes strength from God–truly, your husband–he was ah-mazing, and hopefully another woman you trust who can help you get through and be tough–mine was the amazing midwife. But you become a new woman when you hear that baby cry. 3 hours and 41 minutes of pushing (this is not the norm, don’t worry) only just Friday could never take away the joy of newfound love. When labor and delivery are hard, do not forget, you were made to do this.
nicole says
You are all glow! You look unbelieveable…. Definitely not past your prime! I love the polka dot dress! Where did you get it? I have a friend looking for something cute for her baby shower.
Danielle says
These are adorable!!! She did a fab job and you look incredible! I hope I look that good with child!!
Heather @ Brown Brick House says
Love the pictures… I had my maternity shoot scheduled at wee 37, because first babies are always supposed to take at least 40 weeks… Not my little man. He was born at 36 weeks, perfectly healthy. So we had a newborn photo shoot instead. I think he just wanted to come out and take pictures too.
With the next baby I am going to have a maternity shoot, but schedule it much earlier!
Your sis did a great job, I love every photo!

These pictures are amazing! My mom has exactly one picture of herself being pregnant with me, and although she’s 8 months pregnant in the photo, it looks like she’s trying to hide it. I was just thinking the other day that I’m going to take so many preggo pics of myself so that my baby can see them later on and laugh. 🙂
Kara says
Okay… those are BEAUtiful pictures (helps that the subject(s) are pretty attractive themselves)! Your sister just picked up your camera and had no prior experience doing this? I see a future career blossoming right here!

Good luck with Will!

Lynsey says
Gorgeous!!!!
Beth says
Hey Katie- I found your blog through YHL and have been subscribing, but this might be my first comment. Love your maternity shoot pictures. I just had my daughter at the end of January. Good luck in delivery! The best advice I got was to not get too disappointed when things didn’t go as planned (like when I needed to go on Pitocin) and to focus on a verse that was encouraging (mine ended up being, “be still and know that I am God”) Also, have Jeremy push really hard on your lower back during contractions — it helps sooo much.
I had some maternity shots laying across railroad tracks. 🙂 And my photographer was newly pregnant and peed herself during the shoot because we stayed out too long.
Sorry this comment is a novel!
Ev says

You look amazing! It’ sbeen fun to follow your pregnancy- I miss all the posts of all the emotions that are going through your head. When I found out my main squeeze and I were expecting I went back through your posts to confirm I wasn’t crazy:) Or maybe I should say that we are both crazy! Can’t wait to see the photo shoot after Will arrived. Praying for you guys!
Susie says
Those are fantastic — you’re *still* glowing and I hate you a little bit for it. 😉 I’ll hit 36 weeks tomorrow — is it perhaps a sign of pregnancy-induced insanity that I read your post and thought, “Huh. I should do that…”
leslie Highfill says
love, love, love your photos and your belly too 🙂
Deborah McCready says
You LOOK Beautiful! I don’t know if you remember me, I almost BULLDOZED you over at our local HOBBY LOOBY! You looked beautiful then at 7 months & you still look just as stunning! Congrats to you & ur Boyfriend I love reading your BLOG!
Lisa says
Beautiful photos! I’m so jealous… I was put on bedrest after going into premature labor at 32 weeks. At 34-1/2 weeks I was laying in bed bemoaning the fact that I didn’t have any belly photos, so I snuck out of bed while my husband wasn’t looking, stripped down, and took some naked belly photos (using the self-timer on my camera). They actually came out really great – kind of blurry and atmospheric in an artsy kind of way. My timing was perfect, because my son was born 3 days later! (Hopefully NOT because I snuck out of bed to take the pictures…)
Amy G says
Awww, you’re so pretty! Those turned out great!

I LOVE THEM!!!! Beautiful! and so classy!!! I’m not a fan of the naked preg pictures (personal choice), and these were so tasteful and gorgeous! It seems like you’re taking pictures of things you’d like to do with Will one day – hang in the woods, lay down and relax as a family, hold him… love love love it. Tell your sister she has a future in photography!!!

Gorgeous! I want to know how you got on that log. That was my reaction before you even mentioned it. I couldn’t even get on there not pregnant! I get dizzy if I feel like I could fall. Also, I love the frilly dress with those boots!
allbowerpower says
Hi Ev –
Actually I got the dress at Kidsignment – it’s a consignment event that happens in our area only a couple times a year but has a giant selection of all things baby – including maternity clothes. The dress really doesn’t do much for me just normal but I thought that I could sit or stand in interesting ways to get the ruffles and the satin and the polka dots and hopefully it would be a little more flattering. It’s originally from the Gap. But I scored it for only $5!
XO – Katie
Kelly says
You look beautiful! I took pictures around 30 weeks. My baby girl arrived when I was 37 weeks, so I guess it was good I took them earlier 🙂 You will be meeting baby Will before you know it! I hope you have a quick and easy labor and delivery!

Hiya! I wish I had known you were planning the maternity pics – I would’ve sent you over to my cousin’s site for some inspiration. She’s a photographer just starting out, and she had some fantastic ideas for a maternity shoot she did recently (http://leahbphotography.wordpress.com/2010/02/14/gina-mike-baby-to-be/). Just had to give her a little plug!
But your pics turned out absolutely beautiful – I can’t believe your sis doesn’t have photography experience. She did a fantastic job!

And I’ve got you beat on maternity pics. I had mine taken at about 5pm on Feb. 28th 2007…my water broke at midnight and my son was born at 2:35pm on March 1st 2007. I was pretty much as pregnant as I could possibly get in my pictures!

All of those are amazing. I prefer Maternity Photos with clothing on. I think they’re really beautiful. I loved the one with the blocks. I don’t know why but I didn’t get any pictures of me being pregnant with my son. 🙁 But talking about doing something late, I was in labor when the Lamaze class I was supposed to be taking was going on. oops!

Wow, she IS good. And You are GORGEOUS! Although I’m a little concerned about that log-over-creek photo. Please tell me you didn’t balance across that log and then sat down and then got back up and balanced back?! Getting handsweat. If you did, you’re very naughty and your mother should tell you off. Or boyfriend. Having said that, pretty photo.
Been stalking you (i.e. blog) for ages. Thought I’d crawl out of the woodworks to tell you how beautiful you look. 🙂 Love the blog. Love the nursery. Found you through YHL. Congrats to wee Will for picking such funny and creative parents.

These are beautiful! Of course, I’m thinking you and the bf are pretty easy to photograph! I waited until 39 weeks and after a long day of work. Needless to say, I look exhausted in my maternity photos! Oh well, my new baby boy (3-2-10) will know how hard I worked for him! 🙂
jill says
i know you’re not going to believe me because you’re stubborn and waaaay too modest….BUT…you look like a freaking supermodel. not even kidding. i’m turning green over here, kb 😉
Skooks says
Katie,
You look just lovely. I wish I had bothered to take any pregnancy photos at all that were somewhat staged. All I have now are a handful of snapshots I didn’t know were being taken at the time which don’t quite flatter so much. Oh well. I’ve got 2 cute kids to show for it, so I guess I’m ok with not having cute shots of my ginorm-o belly.
Sending you some easy labor vibes. I hope you have a peaceful delivery and that you can relax a bit in this little time you have left before your life is forever changed by the new man in your life. Blessings to you all. 🙂
wanderluster says
Katie, you are a beautiful, glowing, mama-to-be! Your sis did a great job. Love the country feel of the photos.

I love these! I think my favorite is you in the foreground with Jeremy in the background (really both with the sitting up and your head in his lap). Second up is the fallen tree. I can’t believe you did that. Can’t wait to see the “finished” nursery and pics of baby will.

Hi Miss Katie:
Your pictures are adorable! We should all be so lucky to look as spry at 9 months! (if you’re faking it, I’m sold!)
My girlfriend (also knocked up, but a bit behind you) is “dying” over your adorable pink polka dot dress… I’m on the west coast, she’s on the east. If I showed up with that dress when I visit her next month I would be a total super hero. So, is there any chance you could tell me where you got it?
Thanks so much and keep up the good work! : )

Hi Jessica –
I wish I could be more help in the dress area – I got it at a consignment event. It was from Gap – so maybe you’ll have more luck on ebay? You definitely are a good friend for trying to track one down! Congrats to your friend (for having a best bud like you and for the new family addition!).

Good for you for getting it done. They’ll mean so much in the future, but I understand how being pregnant can suck the energy out of you. I kept putting off my maternity shoot, but finally had it done during my 38 week. I ended up having my baby last week during week 39.
Good luck with your delivery!

I’m way late to this party obviously! I waited until 39 weeks to have my photos done, because in late February our photographer wanted to wait one more week for the spring flowers to pop. In NC spring flowers don’t pop in February but hence, I was waited. I had our daughter exactly a week after the photos were made! I even waited another few days to get the perfect sun silhouette photo! These are wonderful pics by the way!
