I use the term ‘new’ loosely. It’s because I never formally introduced the new foyer rug to you so I feel like it’s that awkward moment in the conversation where I really should say, Bower Power Friends meet Rug. Rug meet friends. And then we all laugh about how awkward it was for those two seconds and how really we are gonna grow old together and sip sweet tea on the porch and watch the sunsets in rocking chairs. That’s the life I dream with you….
So here we go.
In our foyer, we had a circular rug and then took it out. We dreamed of a finished stair way nook as well as a big hard-to-destroy rug. I marked out my measurements with painters tape so I knew exactly what size would look best.
I even mocked it up in photoshop….because that’s totally normal. Totally and absolutely normal, right?!
The nook still isn’t done….obviously….look below for it’s current status….but I do want to finish it very very soon.
But since our floors are refinished (wahoo!!! swoon!!!) I wanted to share how good this new foyer rug looks and how it’s been an awesome fit for our family.
#1 reason why I love this foyer rug – it’s beautiful
I loved this rug for so many reasons but one of the main ones is the look. It just plain looks good. Really dang good. That color variation and pattern is my jam and it plays really nicely with both warm and cool tones that I have going on in our house. Since this is in the foyer, it’s really nice to have such a beautiful rug to greet guests. It’s like saying “hey I don’t have it all together but you don’t know that because this rug looks great.” The idea that it can transition between multiple spaces that have multiple color schemes is really helpful.
#2 reason why I love this foyer rug – the dirt factor
Since this rug is in the foyer, it becomes the first thing that people walk on and the first thing that people see. Talk about a big job! It has to not only look good but hold up to the everyday abuse that comes with four little boys and a dog. And a couple adults. And a whole lot of friends and family. The point here is that a lot of rugs don’t clean up well and a lot don’t look rich. This rug does both and does it beautifully. It’s a 50% wool and 50% viscose blend that is machine woven so it has a little shedding at the beginning but after that it hides all the dirt. I do want to get a rug pad and I ordered some sticky rug grippers to keep everything in place but so far, even solo, it has done a great job as our greeter rug. Not only does the color hide dirt from little feet but it cleans up really nicely. I know. We tested it. (I have this carpet shampooer and always recommend this spray because it works great on carpet!)
#3 reason why I love this foyer rug – the plushness
Okay so lets talk about plushness guys. Am I the only one that is pretty snobby about how thick carpets are or should be? I feel like the plush factor is not talked about enough. Who doesn’t love a thicker rug?! I want it to be thick and plush and squishable for the tushable. Flatweaves are a hard sell for me. BUT THIS? This is just the right combo of plush and softness and durability. That being said – it took a bit of time to lay down. When it arrived, it had a lot of wrinkles and I had to use the carpet shampooer to steam them out. That’s one reason why I didn’t share it with you right away. I was even on the fence of whether it would lay down and be something worth talking about. THANKFULLY it did and the heavens rejoiced.
#3 reason why I love this foyer rug – the colors
We have lots of grays and oatmeal colors and browns and blues and this rug sort of is like the Rachel Green of rugs – she gets a long with everyone. The rug does have enough pile that if you rub the rug in a different direction it changes from lighter to darker which makes it super versatile. The reason why the colors really made the list is because the online listing looked completely different. In real life it is a saturated blue – somewhere between navy and dark teal with warm cream – that changes to a tan if you rub the pile in the other direction. The retailer has it looking like a muted royal. I took the risk when ordering it and boy I was so glad I did because the colors are great for my house.
The size we got was 7’6″ x 10’5″ which was a perfect fit for our foyer space. The price isn’t super cheap (I know we are all looking for the super affordable wool rug that has the perfect pattern and resists all the dirt)….but it isn’t too bad either. It was $449 and that is on sale. PLUS it is from Birch Lane which we all know is like a stamp of style. It’s Birch Lane? Oh well then we know it’s beautiful without even looking.

So there you have my little foyer update. I hope to be having more soon for you guys! This room is on my list to finish this year and I feel like if I could get over this bronchitis, it would actually be such a breath of fresh air. See what I did there? Bronchitis and breathing? Anyone? Y’all get allergy jokes? Anyone?

You have put #3 twice, so actually you have 4 reasons why you love this foyer rug: beauty, dirt factor, plushness, color. 🙂

Beautiful rug! My suggestion is to avoid the rug pad ( it looks like it’s latex in the description) and the rubber grippy pad, especially on newly refinished hardwoods. You are very likely to end up with permanent ” intentions/images” of the little rubber squares. I know this from past experience unfortunately. My suggestion is go to a place that sells carpet and have a felt pad cut slightly smaller than the actual rug size. Much better on your hardwoods, with the added benefit of making the rug feel plusher and thicker. This was the best “rug buying” advice I ever received and I always do this now.

Sorry, should read “indentions “, not “intentions”. Lol

This rug looks great! I love the colors….so different from how it shows on Joss & Main! Would you say that this rug is thicker than the one you got to use by your white sofa…sort of the blue denim/cream rug? Thanks.
Katie says
Yes. The one in the living room is thinner – it is like the one in our bedroom. This one is wool blend so it is definitely thicker.

So what would you do if the bouncy house is set up on this rug and you have to keep it in place then? I’m torn because I like the fact that the thicker rug pads make the rug never move around.

Duh. Mom brain 🙂

That I’m not sure about. My kids are grown now, so no more bouncy houses for me….. I can say that I’ve not had issues with the rugs moving with normal use and I really like the thickness factor the felt pads add. Best of luck!
