My apologies to your husband. And to your self-esteem. Because one look at this photo will give you a serious complex:
Yeah…she just gave birth.
Not fair.
I looked like the Goodyear blimp after Will was born. Julia looks like a Proactive commercial. Again…not fair.
But that wasn’t really the point. The point is to make your reproductive organs ache…or your camera’s trigger finger. Either way.
This next one is the one Jule’s used for the birth announcements. I love how he looks like he is partially smiling. Gotta love it when newborns have those sleepy dreamy grins. New babies don’t do a lot of anything so these are definitely something to celebrate.
This was my first attempt at doing the propped chin on hands pose. Not the best because he kept on slouching down…too darn flexible this kid….but it did make for a cute photo. I swear that if I had even bent Will’s knees up to a sitting position, he grunted and made a face like he was pushing somethin’ outta socket.
Ethan was a little too long for the basket. But he didn’t seem to care. He just hooked that foot and fell asleep.
I was also able to grab one of the entire Anderson family. Since Jade’s kids were in town that weekend, we coerced them into the backyard and made tween jokes till they smiled. Doesn’t Ethan look like Jade’s daughter? Every time I see him I say that he looks like Campbell…but nobody seems to care. Well, except Campbell. I think she likes it that her new little brother looks like her. It might be that whole I-don’t-care-about-anything-but-boys phase coming on though.
okay…so I have one more baby session to share. later. after a fun DIY project post. till then, practice your yoga poses so that you can be as flexible as Ethan one day…and yes, it is okay to still be a little upset that Julia’s skin is perfect. just let’s not take it out on your computer…mmmkay!?

I hate you Katie Bower!! I hate you because I am so jealous of your photog skills!! They rival those of TMZ paparazzi!!! Except yours are professional and not all “celebrity in your face” photos!! Are you sureeee you didn’t go to school for this stuff?!?! Okay, okay I believe you. But i’m still incredibly jealous! And guess what i’ve asked for for Christmas?? You betcha, a camera just like yours!! **Please give me the deets on the one you have (and all accessories) so that I can copy you!!** 🙂 I want to start prepping for my due date (June 2011!)
YOU.ARE.AWESOME.KATIE!!! KEEP SNAPPIN’ AWAY!!
P/S I was only kidding about the hate you part. sort of. I kid, I kid!!! 🙂

So, when you said she looked like a proactive commercial, you meant the after’s… when people pick up their phones and instantly start to dial to place their order. Just thought I would clarify for you. Oh, and that baby is totally happy, smiley dreaming because he can’t believe his luck that his mom looks that good all the time… and how much it is not going to suck in high school to have a complexion as awesome as that. Good genes are a gift from God.

Oh my gosh! That picture of him with his head in his arms/legs is just about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen! It just melts your heart. Great pictures 🙂

So do you usually take these photos out on the deck like you did Will’s costume ones?

Hi Katie, I’m just curious if you use lighting equipment or just the flash on your camera. I want to take beautiful pictures, but my lighting is never soft and pretty like yours in the basket photo and the other color photo of just the baby, especially if I am indoors. Any tips would be appreciated.
Katie says
Hi Nicole,
I don’t use any lighting equipment. Unless you count the sun 🙂 I only use natural light and I never use flash.
Hope this helps!

Hi Sabrina,
These were taken on Julia’s screened-in porch…very similar to the deck…except a heck of a lot hotter 🙂

Hey Katie, I just found this link on how to do the newborn “hands under chin” photos – thought you might be interested in it : http://www.propinsanity.com/safety-first/
Here is the flickr discussion where I discovered that link: http://www.flickr.com/groups/1294247@N24/discuss/72157624551227966/
I don’t have much experience with babies that young, so I had never realized that the pictures are photoshopped to take out the necessary head support.
Hope this might be helpful!

That’s funny Lauren – those are the two sites I read before attempting this thing…and of course, I had to go try the hardest thing ever…the chin on hands pose….FAIL. Oh well, maybe next time 🙂

I love your photos, but I especially love your current tagline (not sure if that’s what it’s called) reference to Anne of Green Gables. I’m one of your Canadian readers and actually thought that American’s had never heard much about her. She’s my fav. – my husband and I even got married in the same church where she married Gilbert (in the movie).
