This past Saturday my little brother tied the knot! We funky chickened, stinky-legged and wobbled like it was 1999. He and my new sister-in-law (!!!) had a small wedding in a rustic barn in north Georgia and it was so fun! There were horses and chickens and even a playground so of course my kids loved it. It was like a trip to the petting zoo, the park and a dance party all in one. And to see my little Timmy get emotional about his vows was my favorite part. I can just tell that he loves that girl so much and that is the best ever. It gives me all the feels.
I was talking to my sister Nornie during the wedding and of course we had the discussion….if you could redo what you did for your own wedding, what would you do different? Admit it. I know you all have had this conversation except you annoying my wedding was puuurrrfect people. Big wedding people wish for smaller weddings. Backyard wedding people wish for destination weddings. There are so many advantages to each kinda wedding and I love hearing what other people say. Personally, I had a rather large church wedding and a very cramped reception at a different venue. It wasn’t super fancy but it also wasn’t a laid-back casual event.
Jeremy and I say now that we wish we could have done a church wedding at a destination. There are beautiful little chapels that would have been perfect with toes in the sand and the smell of coconuts and hibiscus. When we returned home from the honeymoon, I would have wanted a backyard dessert reception with dancing to celebrate with the masses. Oh the dream! Maybe we will do it that way for a vow renewal ceremony 🙂 And I’ll have these table numbers ready! There probably will only be like ten people there…so maybe I’ll use these as seat numbers instead.
You start with 1×6 scrap wood boards. I cut them to be 10″ long and then marked my cuts for the angled corners. On the top, mark it 1.5″ from the corner and on the side mark it 3″ from the same corner. Using a straightedge, connect those two marks and then miter cut accordingly. Do both sides and then drill a 3/4″ hole in the center top approximately 8.5″ from the bottom.
Repeat the same process as many times as you like…or as many tables as are in your dream wedding 🙂
Sand all the surfaces and don’t forget the hole. I used the Rust-Oleum 2x Ultra cover in white flat to give them a quick coat on front and back and sides.
After they are dry, tape up some designs on your wooden bouys. They can do a bunch of different looks and each one is fun. I used Rust-Oleum’s Wild Flower Blue spray paint to do the accent color. You could switch it up and do anything! It would look great with gray or your dream wedding colors or if you just want to make these as home decor, you can use the colors of the room.
Once those get sprayed and dried, it is time for the number. I used the traditional and cheap ones at Home Depot. There are lots of modern looking versions out there that are super cute too.
These were fastened directly to the front and then I used a 30″ piece of rope to go through the hole. I did a simple knot and I LOVE how they turned out.
I even staged one so that you could see exactly how it looks with a centerpiece (faux flowers from Dollar General!). Looks so good, right?!
I love dreaming up ways to do wedding decor. Seriously. Maybe every year I should just do a wedding week where I do fun wedding DIY projects….even if nobody in my family is getting married. That would be so fun. And then I will be ready when Will is marrying Clara Petersik. And yes, I will hold onto that joke till it is DEAD IN THE GROUND. Don’t kill my dreams people.

What a cute and easy way to add a few little nautical touches to your garden or patio. Very nice!

We had a bigger than expected (500 people!) barkyard-ish wedding at my family’s farm that is on a lake. It was “perfect”. But, I have always said that I want to do a vow renewal every 10 years so we can have all the weddings. Our 10 year anniversary is in 2 more years and I think a small chapel wedding with our kids as the wedding party is my current dream. But, I am desperately trying to figure out how to use those adorable numbers as decor in my house. Maybe I should assign each of my kiddos a number and use these to label their things, or maybe I can put their initial on it. #toomanyideas 🙂

My girlfriends and I were just talking about this on Saturday! Thanks to Pinterest, we see all of these cool things we could have done for our weddings that just never occurred to us when we got married oh so many years ago.
The only thing I would have done differently for my wedding would have been to add a photo booth. I had one of my wishlist but, they were so new only a few places could accomodate and they were so expensive. I nixed the idea pretty early to keep our wedding on budget. After we got back from the honeymoon and got all of our final wedding bills, we were far under budget! How often does that happen? I kind of kicked myself for not doing the photobooth because we could have been able to afford it. But I guess the extra $$$ in the newlywed account was a good thing too! Especially according to my husband.
Since then, they are more popular, way cheaper, and there are also so many great DIY versions!
I loved everything else about my wedding though! Great food, dancing, beautiful venue, and tons of fun! Oh, a great groom too! 🙂

It’s a joke?!? A dream?!? Say it isn’t so! There are a lot of us out there just waiting for them to grow up and get married!!!!
I have a young neighbor named Coby who was besties with his neighbor on the other side, Rachaeli. We had them married off at age 5, and now that they’re 14 and it doesn’t look like it’s happening, we’re all watching Will and Clara to make that childhood sweethearts thing come true!

I always say it isn’t fair that I had to plan my wedding without pinterest and instagram! Lol. Ours was a late afternoon garden wedding with evening reception. If I redid my wedding, I would have had a morning wedding with a waffle bar and coffee station reception and done away with the typical bridesmaid dresses. But still in the garden 😉

When I married in 1974 everyone had the boring reception in the church basement with cake, mints, nuts, punch, and a mile long receiving line. Ugh! So last summer, on our 40th anniversary, we rented out the local country club, hired a band, got a keg and some bbq, and danced the night away with lots of folks who love us and we love right back! It was such a fabulous, fun, fantastic night!!! We had wildflowers from a local friends farm, balloons, and streamers, and a fun “Photo Booth”! It was a night I will never forget – topped off with dancing with my 10 year old grandson! (love your blog!)

Oh soo many changes…where do I start?! Our biggest regret is our photographer. Which kills me because I always said I wouldn’t skimp on photos but I kinda did in the end….also I would probably break tradition and do a ‘first look’ where hubby and I have a moment (with the photog) and see each other all done up before the nuptials. I think there’s something to be said about having quiet moments on your wedding day- and we didn’t get many because we were always surrounded by bridal party etc…Also, that would mean it goes first look, bridal party pics, ceremony, then just couple portraits before reception (more alone time) and your guests don’t have a huge break- you could even share venues – and your bridal party can join their partners and the party earlier, while you snag some sunset pics and share intimate moments…..also, I wish I had a professional videographer (instead of a friend), a polaroid camera, and put more decorations on the guest tables 😉

I am also holding on to that Will & Clara dream! I miss their blog so much! Can’t you go visit them again and give us a little update?

I am one of those, my wedding was perfect, people. I was married on the beach in Jamaica and everything was take care of for us. They asked what color flowers I wanted and I said pink. They didn’t have pink so they dyed some to make them perfect. It was that way for everything. They asked questions and made it happen and we did not know about any issues AT ALL. They just made it happen. Incredible. I look back and I remember every single moment of that day because I only had to focus on one thing-getting married.

Oh my gosh. I kinda hate you. At my reception, my mom asked a server for a knife and they said no :[

Those numbers are so cool! 🙂 We got married in a botanical garden and had our reception at a local seafood restaurant near a big body of water, there were 25 people there and it was lovely (I’d change my dress FYI – and invite more family!) Last year we went to the US and ended our trip in Hawaii – we stayed at the Outrigger on the Beach in Waikiki and they do beach vow renewal ceremonies for free twice a week – we got there 2 days after our 12th wedding anniversary and just thought why not! We thought it would be impersonal (since there are about half a dozen couples, maybe more) but actually it was beautiful and very emotional for us both – and standing on the beach with the sand in our toes, flowers in our hair, exchanging leis was so beautiful. We had our 7 year old son there, and my mother in law – it was so lovely… I highly recommend it 🙂

Love those numbers! If only I had seen this a year ago ha. As for what I would do differently I would have not cheaped out and rented my dishes from a rental place instead of through the caterer. Doing place settings for 120 peeps is time consuming!

As a wedding planner I WISH I could have had 10 weddings. Its nearly impossible to narrow down all of your favorite bits and pieces from the weddings I’ve done over the years! That being said I’ve already pinned the adorable table numbers for my brides to check out so I’d love to see more!
