So, um, yeah.
I might be a little late on this one.
Sorry about that. Forgive me? Well, I hope you are all nodding yes…because this is gonna happen either way.
That’s right…it’s my Memorial Day post about thirty days late. Man, I am nothing if not totally on top of things. As a slap on the wrist I promise not to make any potty jokes.
I totally made Jeremy & Will wear matching outfits on Memorial Day. What? That’s not what Memorial Day is all about? SAY Whaaat?!
Will is totally headstrong. Always has been. Since the moment that they plucked him from my bloody belly and laid him on my chest to nurse for the first time. I swear he looked up at me and said “I got this Mom” with his eyes. And then he proceeded to breastfeed all wrong. But what he doesn’t have in technical skills, he makes up for with sheer diligence. Case in point – trampoline jumping. And no, he doesn’t know how to jump yet. But dang it if he doesn’t BELIEVE he can. See that little tongue out? Yup – that’s the I CAN DO IT face.
Followed up with a little Daddy high-five…or should I say Diddy high-five. That’s right…I’m married to B. Diddy.
This photo cracks me up. Just look at the bottom of the trampoline…and you will too.
My boys.
Faceless portrait. I’m not good at these…but this one hits a chord with me. I think it’s because of the way Jeremy is hugging Will…it encourages me to take more photos of things besides faces.
Our Memorial day family picture. And I think this is the best picture to explain Will’s hair color…yes, we have a little auburnite.
And yes, he gets compliments on it all the time. For Halloween I might make him Raggedy Andy. Jeremy don’t argue 🙂
Will, like most children I imagine, is obsessed with mops, brooms and vacuums. I hope this continues when I start doling out chores…which should happen next week.
Will has also learned to climb up & down stairs…which is nice when I am in bed and ask him to get me a snack.
I have photos of my dad…95% of them are him grilling some kind of meat. I’ll have to work on that.
Will is mildly obsessed with television. He now knows how to turn our tv on and this morning I found him sitting on the couch watching Family Feud. I can’t blame him…Steve Harvey is very funny.
As you can see, Will’s sideburns aren’t in yet. They are coming…but not totally there yet.
Sometimes we just brush his hair forward…it’s a comb forward a la Justin Beiber. Which brings me to my next point….maybe the Beibs doesn’t have sideburns either…
Will also discovered the neighborhood cat that hangs out at my mom’s house.
At first he was purely delighted at Tennessee (that’s the kittys name)…
But then, he became a demon baby…
Just in case you can’t see what is happening here…
my thirteen month old decided to attack a defenseless animal. And his eyes turned totally black. I did not photoshop that. Let’s just say that I prayed a lot that night…FOR HIS SOUL.
I took away Diablo’s Paci as punishment. Here’s a pretty picture of my mom’s hydrangeas to balance out the ugly cry.
And my mom teaching Will how to sniff. It looks like she is making a yucky face but she was just exagerrating the sniffing action.
Will has discovered his ears. And other people’s eyes. It makes for uncomfortable introductions…what with the eye gauging.
And because Memorial Day wouldn’t be the same without a flag photo…here we go:
Also, I am going to start labeling the throwing photos. Other moms tried to warn me of this occurance…the excessive throwing…of course I didn’t listen because I thought my infant would be superior. He would be bored with chunking objects through the air. No. I was wrong. My baby is just like all the other object-pitchers out there. There are babies in this world that are superior…the magical little infants that don’t throw….and they are called girls.
At the end of the day Will opened the door to the pantry, pulled out a Capri-Sun and brought it to me. Seriously folks…I thought that your kid had to be, like, old before they did that kind of stuff. I mean, he still doesn’t talk. Except for saying “Diddy”…yet he knows how to bring me a prepackaged fruit drink?
So that’s our Memorial Day. A wonderful rested day shared with family and feline…and all because of the sacrifice of so many.
What did you guys do? And are you planning anything fun for Fourth of July? We have plans which I am sure you will hear all about…..in October 🙂

Adorable! I looked at my list of unfinished blog posts yesterday and included events that happened like six months ago…sleep deprivation…
Kristen @ Popcorn on the Stove says
Haha! I wonder when Will’s sideburns will be 100% in. Thanks for sharing all the pictures! It looks like you had a wonderful Memorial Day!
elaine says
Love it! Adorable shots and the commentary had me laughing out loud. So funny.
Erin @ What Makes Home says
I love that picture of Will drinking the Capri Sun. What a little man he is growing into!
Susie says
Very sweet — looks like you all had a Memorial Day! Btw, I’m impressed that Will can use a straw — my 15 month old (who also likes to throw things — blocks especially — yes, he’s a boy) has no clue what to do with a straw. He just ends up chewing on it. Which is particularly annoying because he won’t chew food — just swallows it whole or spits it out. Man, kids are a trip, aren’t they? So, I have to know, did you teach Will how to suck on the straw or did he figure it out on his own?
Kyle says
Love your Memorial Day outfit… I think I will sport something similar on Monday for the 4th.
Susie says
*sigh* Not just “a Memorial Day” but a ^nice Memorial Day. Too quick on the submit button…
Emily says
I love all the pictures but my favorite is the last. Will looks so sitting on the counter. Love that little face!
Katie says
I didn’t really teach him…he knows how to suck from his sippy cup I think…so the normal sized straw was just second nature. I think he discovered that the mini straw was even better because it doesn’t give him too much…but I hear ya on the non-chewing thing. Will is a swallow-it-whole-kinda guy too 🙂

Ah, you crack me up. That was one funny post my friend.
Tempest says
This post made me laugh the entire way through. And I can totally relate on the demon child front..during my daughter’s first trip to Gymboree class, her first interaction with another child her age, what does she do? Steal the girl’s toys. I think she and Will would make a good pair…
Cheryl says
1) Gorgeous family photo of a gorgeous family
2) Can totally relate on the boy thing. Mine is almost 4. The throwing doesn’t stop, and they just add more fun to their arsenal, like knocking things over, crashing things together (i..e toy cars and trucks), etc…
3) I think Will has officially left baby stage…that last picture particularly is toddler on it’s way to little boy!
4) Happy 4th of July to you too 🙂
Jessica B says
So- my child also throws everything. There are blocks currently strewn from one side of the house to another and probably grapes under the couch… and she is a 100% girl! So don’t be surprised when your daughter throws blocks right at people’s heads 🙂
Elyse says
That’s so funny. My son started doing that recently, too! He walks to the pantry we keep his snacks in, does his version of the more sign, opens the cabinet, picks out whatever box or bag of snack and walks it over to us. How can you not give it to them then!
Bethany says
Okay, the FOR HIS SOUL line made me bust our laughing…and I’m at work…so I’m sure people now think I’m crazy. Oh well, that part was downright hilarious. 😉
Rebecca says
We finally bought a refrigerator lock because my 2 year old would not stop getting in the frig. So worth the $5!! Now she only eats like 8 times a day instead of 25!
Stephanie B says
Awhhh he is getting to be such a little man and he looks more and more like you every day:-)
Rachel @ Common to Moms says
I agree… the “FOR HIS SOUL” part was hilarious 🙂
I have a GIRL who loves to throw things also! It doesn’t matter what I do, it seems that she likes the throwing thing and wants it to stay around (I’m still fighting against it though 🙂 ).
Your pics are beautiful – I really like the ‘faceless portrait’ one. It’ll be fun to see more of those 🙂 Happy 4th of July!
Tempest says
I concur! The faceless allows you to really feel the emotion of the photo, almost better than had their faces been in it. Makes me want to try a few of those myself..
Lynn says
You. Always. Make. Me. Laugh. ALWAYS!
Julie says
You’re too funny! I loved the commentary and the photos, thanks for sharing!
Tamsyn says
Gorgeous photos Katie! That family one of you three is perfect as well.
My little guy does a similar jumping thing. Even though his feet never leave the floor (or couch or table – he’s nothing if not adventurous) he is convinced that he can jump. He bends his little legs, throws his arms up in the air and says Ba (which means up). Soooo cute to watch!
Allyn says
Oh, the black eyes… that’s hilariously awesome. My dad gets the same malicious look in his eyes when he sees a cat.
beth says
never laughed so hard at a post 🙂 So funny. I have a 5 month old little boy. Good to know he’ll be just like the other boys. Ok, never mentioned this before, but I found your blog through my friend Joy (Ray) Stanton. She is friends with your sister! Small world 🙂
Jill says
That picture of Will and Jeremy with Jeremy’s watch dead center? If I were you, I’d seriously track down the marketing department of whoever makes that watch and see if they need a great photo for their next Father’s Day advertisement.
Tasha says
I just have to tell you….Usually I just skim through blogs and look at the pictures, but yours I just have to read from top to bottom! You are crack me up!
Katie says
haha! I need a cut of that ad 🙂

Angie says
Thank you so much for this post! You are hilarious and I laughed so often, thankfully no one else is in the office at the moment. 🙂 Thank YOU!
erica says
I’ve never commented before but this post was hilarious! The shot of the demon baby followed by the cry baby and then the hydrangea made me lol. You are crazy..I love it!
Janelle says
I love posts like these Katie…You are hilarious!
Elizabeth says
I love the Justin Bieber hair!!! And the auburn-ness of it is pretty sweet too.
Juliann says
Chucking, throwing, and all around demon child behavior is not gender specific! My two year old daughter is sometimes all three in one when she steals a toy from her older brother, runs across the house with it, into the living room, jumps on the couch, and chucks it behind the couch where she knows her big brother will never get it because he can’t fit. After all the terrorizing of her brother, she’s got a huge, evil grin plastered to her pretty, all girl, face!
Sarah says
I happened upon your blog a week or two ago…
I love how genuine you are about everything! =) I especially loved your proposal story, there was something so nice about how blunt you were about your attitude that day. Most people would just gloss over their unhappy moments and upset moments and focus on the happy in-love proposal. It was refreshing to finally read a proposal story that sounded like it could happen to me [as opposed to the magical, super happy all-week of the proposal stories].
This entry was too funny, though! I had to comment! =) You’re crazy & I love it!!
ginger says
SO HILARIOUS about the black eyes and the cat!!!
beautiful family portrait 🙂
Mallory says
Love your pictures of Will! So cute!
justine @ you're so martha says
that picture of will drinking the capri sun is the cutest. thing. ever! the pouch is like half the size of him, and the position of his legs – i die!
Jen says
My little man is 18 months. We’ve taught him some sign language since about 6 months old (“more” “please” “thank you” “eat” “drink”, etc) and he will now bring me the container of Cheerios, hand it to me, and sign “Help”. It is so cute! 🙂
Jenn T. says
You crack me up. Enough said. 😀
CampDallas says
The breastfeeding comment was hilarious! Especially because I have a 3-month old that came out thinking the same thing. I believe I am finally recovered from his early days of eating like a barracuda.
Gia says
The FOR HIS SOUL line…amazing. This entire post had me laughing and cringing, possibly because Logan is doomed to become one of those eye-gouging/throwing things boys…and he isn’y even 7 months.
And I am pretty sure he is an auburnite as well. Where the heck did THAT come from??
Cory says
Loved this…haven’t stopped by in awhile, but oh my goodness your son has gotten so big! Wow! 🙂 Cute stuff!
