One of the biggest trends right now is getting faux plants and I gotta tell ya….it’s a bandwagon I jumped on LONG AGO. Faux plants and flowers have come a LONG way….and if you are like me (perpetually forgetful plant parent) then low maintenance is AMAZING. They literally bloom ON.THEIR.OWN. Shocking news. I know. Thank me later.
I thought it would be fun to do a lil ole round up of faux plants in our house…ya know…because OH MY GOSH BECKY LOOK AT HER FAUX PLANTS THEY ARE SO BIG. Sorry….had to.
Okay so first up are these flowers we have in our foyer from Pier 1. I actually REALLY love Pier 1’s floral stems. They look real and in mass, they make an arrangement look luxe. I just saw they have a bunch on 50% off right now. Here is the link. I’m totally digging that cotton wreath and the faux pink & green hydrangea. Fun fact…Jeremy calls them “hydranges” and it DRIVES ME NUTS.
Also on my favorites list….succulents. I love faux succulents…they look more real somehow. I got the ones we put in the first floor bathroom are from Home Goods and yes, they do make me Home Goods Happy 🙂 Usually these range from $12 to $30….but the better looking ones always are fuller and have a better texture.
The other reason I love faux plants is the fact that they add life to a corner that is dark and can’t really sustain a plant. I have these shelves in our sitting room and they are in a shadow 99% of the time. BUT the fact that these stems are back there make them look lush and vibrant. These ones are from Hobby Lobby and I combined a shiny finish with a soft feathery finish stem. Switching up the textures makes for a really organic look!
These faux calla lilys are one of my long time faux florals. I think my best tip for finding faux flowers that look real is variation of color and then look at the stems and how they transition to the flower bloom itself. If it has detail and texture in the stem, they usually look more real overall.
But don’t overlook simple ways to incorporate faux flowers….it doesn’t have to be in a vase! I like putting them in a cheap grapevine wreath or even as filler with real flowers! In fact, I even wore a fake flower in my hair at my wedding!
My mom told me that a great way to avoid killing all your plants is to put them all in one room. It makes it easier to remember to water them and it actually works. Now all of our real plants are in my living room (the space with the most natural light) and everything else is fake. So that means that almost all of our rooms have fake plants or flowers….which is fine because they look real.
And since right now I am on finishing our master bedroom, I did just order a faux fiddle leaf fig for the corner. A real one would have never survived in that space (not enough light) so this is a great compromise. Here is the link to the one I’m waiting on. Seriously UPS guy…I could have a baby any minute (not really but that’s just my excuse with strangers)…I NEED MY FIGGIN’ TREE. (get it? figgin?) Anyhoo…I’d love to hear all about your faux plants and flowers and things. Where do you get them? What do you love? Any tips for the newbie faux lover?
Here are a bunch more faux plants that look pretty awesome….

My Dad calls hydrangeas “hydrangelas”. I think he’s just being a goofball. In any case, our daughter’s pre-birth nickname was Hydrangela. 🙂
I should probably get some fake plants…my husband is a small businessman and sells plants for a living. But we don’t have much sun in our house so I just have one lone mini kalanchoe in the kitchen window.

Oh, I’m with you! I just had a faux succulent arrangement done today and it is just beautiful! And, the best part is I never have to give it another thought. Happy week!

You were so right, Faux plants can make or break a room. However I think it’s important that to overdo it. We’ve all seen those hanging Ivy plants over every single cabinet in the kitchen that have been there for more than a few years too long. Am I right?

Michaels has a good selection of faux plants (particularly succulents) and they’re always on sale, plus coupons!

I love faux plants, but the worst is all the dust on them. Any tips there?

I have loved faux flowers ever since I could afford the more real looking ones. I knew I had hit the jackpot when my sister-in-law, the florist, stuck her nose in my faux peonies! I have sunflowers, poppies, hydrangeas, peonies, tulips and daffodils. Plus Japanese lanterns, leaves, little pots of violets. I bring them out when it’s their season so no one really knows for sure. I store them in Ziplocs’ XLarge Bags that are 2’x2.7′ which gives them room not to be crushed. They have a handle so I can hang them in my basement. Glad no one is wrinkling their nose anymore.

I am also totally still on the boxwood craze. I love that it was live at one point, so it still looks so real! I spritz mine occasionally (every few months maybe?) and they have looked good for a few years! Also, Michael’s started making these crazy real stems. It’s scary how real they look. When I was there they were like, $12 a piece but you could probably use a 20% off your total that they do occasionally. Love faux flowers. They are everywhere in my house (although not ivy on top of cabinets circa 1995 like the person mentioned above haha)

I have just the spot for those calla lilies. I’m pretty picky with faux flowers and those look so realistic. Please tell me where I can get them.

I personally use a dry microfiber towel on things I can wipe and then an air blaster (like the one you use for your keyboard) on things that I can’t! Hope this helps!
