I kinda forgot to blog about our baseball adventure. It was an adventure because :
1. we don’t really watch much baseball or consider ourselves baseball fans
2. it was Will’s first sporting event
3. it was right in the middle of naptime
We went to see the Gwinnett Braves. They are a AA or AAA team, I think. I have no idea. I also have no idea who they played. I don’t even know if they wore red or blue. Like I said…not really into baseball.
But gosh darn it, it was on the summer list therefore it must be done.
With the help of a coupon it was only $6 for the family to get in and sit on the lawn.
We spread out the blanket, the snacks, the toys, and the fourteen bags of other baby paraphenalia that we toted into the park.
Instead of watching the game, Will played with the phone – he loves to talk to his imaginary coworkers. He puts the phone up to his ear and says Hey…but it sounds more like Eeh. Yes, I have a Canadian toddler.
We pulled out all the stops trying to keep him on the blanket including the infamous bum jiggle.
Eventually the Will power (pun intended) won over…and the little man ran wild.
He would stop and clap everytime the crowd cheered. It was made me smile.
Also this little guy made me smile. You remember Ethan?
We actually hit up the game with Ethan’s parents (and our friends), the Andersons.
Basically I could eat this guy up with a spoon.
And no, Ethan didn’t put the green wiggly ball down the entire time.
His blond hair kills me. I hope I have a baby one day that has blond hair. Oh let’s be honest…I’ll settle for a baby with any color hair…or no hair….I’d settle for anything right now. LORD I WANT A BABY!
Again Will got restless.
The bleachers kept him occupied for like two seconds.
The gift shop was a good diversion…
his hands were into everything…basically the ball area was not our friend. It was like a hailstorm of shrapnel…
Practicing the tomahawk chop….
Like the rest of my every days, Will had his breaking point. This particular day, we broke out the Dippin’ Dots.
He LOVED it. Will signing “more”. Guess he has his father’s sweet tooth…
Speaking of the daddy – I rarely get a photo of Jeremy. A real photo. One with a real smile. And make that a big smile. And those eye wrinkles. and the everything.
And I also rarely get a photo of Will cuddling. This one is getting printed and hung in the house for sure.
So that was the last thing we did on our summer list. Too bad summer ended so early….I was just getting started! Maybe I’ll just scootch some of the summer stuff to our fall list…that’s not cheating because I make up the rules 🙂
How did you guys do? Did you get everything done you wanted? I know I didn’t. Heaven’s knows I would never leave DONUTS unattended to intentionally.

Looks like you had fun! It also looks like you are about as interested in baseball as I am. We went to see our AA (or is it AAA? who knows) team this summer and I don’t really remember anything about the game other than the fireworks at the end. And the frozen yogurt in a tiny plastic baseball hat.
We’re lucky if we finished half the stuff on our summer list, and ours was a lot shorter. I vote for moving some things to the fall list. It’s totally not cheating! haha
Kristen @ Popcorn on the Stove says
I think it’s fine to carry over the list to the Fall. I think a lot of the activities you listed will carry over well! If not, well, you already started on your list for next Summer! PS – Those photos are adorable! I love the one of Will cuddling Jeremy!

Katie,
Seriously, your photos of Will make me look forward to when Kevin and I start a family. Mostly, I’m scared out of my wits about it. But your blog? It makes me think Ok, maybe we can do this. Someday.
So thanks.

Gosh I just LOVE your blog! Will always brings a smile to my face! I have 2 children (4.5 yr old girl) and Hudson is 21 months so it’s fun to see Will doing the same things as Hudson.
If you guys ever take a roadtrip to Huntsville, AL let me know!

Looks like fun! We go to a few Gwinnett Braves games every summer- it’s so much more relaxed than the major leagues! Plus I work right around the corner, so my office tends to take group trips over there : ) Love it! Did Will play in the big bouncy houses?

When did you make fried oreos?

Everyone in blogland keeps talking about summer ending, but in San Francisco our summer doesn’t start for another week or so! I’m definitely going to make a todo list so we don’t sit around on our hot weekend days and think about what to do!
Great idea.

No – he was too little…but that didn’t mean that he didn’t try to sneak in…little stinker tried his darndest to bypass the guard 🙂

SISLAG LYou are a brave soul! I have twin 4 year old neices who would be little terrors at a baseball game! Looks like, will had a good time! Also, I’m very impressed with the amount you got done on your summer list. My summer list was: plant flowers…… And my front yard is still flowerless so kudos to you!
Melanie @ Mailbox Journey says
Love all the pictures – looks like it was a fun & hectic time! lol
Mary@TheGoodLife says
Too cute. Little boys at sporting events- doesn’t matter what- is freakin adorable. There probably aren’t a lot of sports opportunities for Canadian toddlers down there in Georgia. Like, say, curling. Baseball will have to do. Great photo ops, though, haha which is pretty much all I care about when it comes to sports. So sad. Anyway. Of course, the cuddling!! I got a good one the other day too, and I am having all kinds of framing fantasies about it.. Looks like a fabulous day! One for the scrapbooks for sure!

I laughed out loud at the pictures of Will “throwing stuff.” I love that you have such a great sense of humor. I’m kidless, but I’m totally on Team Katie!!
Lindsay @ Lindsay's List says
Hold up…you got a tattoo?!?!?
Amber says
Summer’s not technically over yet – so you could do a couple more things on your list before fall!! We took our Will to his first baseball game this spring and he was surprisingly really into it. He sat still through 6 innings. And of course he had to have a baseball shirt – the same one as your Will 🙂
allison says
You do realize that you have library on your list 2X? and to be really fair, I think you could count some of your adventures over the summer against your list- Like, Will’s finger painting session could totally be used as “body painting”. And I am sure that someplace back along that creek of yours is a small waterfall someplace… I bet you could count that as “hike to a waterfall.” You just have to be a bit creative with your explanations:)
And I think you should make peanut butter play dough for Will- that was always a favorite in my family because if they eat it, it isn’t horrible for them:)
ashlie says
Just because it’s September doesn’t mean summer is over! The first day of fall isn’t until September 23rd! Lots of time left to go to the library (twice, as per your list!) 🙂
Bree says
Get a tattoo? How did I miss that one? I got a tattoo on my 30th birthday this summer and even though it is probably the smallest tattoo ever, it hurt like hell. Not a big fan of the stinging kind of pain…
erika m says
Didn’t you know summer time isn’t over until “autumnal equinox” which I think is Sept. 23…you HAVE time…no cheating necessary, grab a snowcone while putt putting…bam 2 down…happy remaining summer! ps save the library for winter time when you’ve been stuck at home allday…we love the library…we go weekly!

Great post and pictures, yet again Katie! Your blog is one of my daily reads 🙂
I want another baby, too!! I hope you get a BFP soon!

Hi Katie
Love the blog. I’m curious, you mentioned Will signed “more”. Is this baby signing you’re mentioning? I’d be very interested in what that is about and what your own reasons were for teaching him that. Btw, how DO you teach him? I’m 5 mths preggers and have heard a couple of people mentioning it but haven’t had the guts to ask what it’s about, but I can totally see myself teaching the baby-in-brewing that once she’s out.

TATTOO!!! WHAT? Temporary or in-the-skin-for-real??
Hannah@TheEroh's says
Hey Anna! We taught out daughter Lily sign language using just regular ASL signs starting at 4 months. It wasn’t until several months later that she started signing back but now that she’s 14 months she uses over 15 signs and counting. I go to http://www.mysmarthands.com to watch videos on different signs. If Laura doesn’t a specific sign on her site then I just google it. I LOVE signing with my daughter! I can’t tell you how amazing it is to understand what she is saying (right now she only speaks three words: “cup” “up” and “sit”). Like the other morning when she came up to me and signed “eat”, she was hungry and so I got her some breakfast. Easy as that! I just started by using the sign for “milk” (or nursies as we call it) when I was nursing her. Then every time I nursed her I would ask “Do you want nursies? Can you sign nursies?” and I would make the sign. She could sign it in response to me within a few months. Finally at about 8 months I think it was, she signed it on her own when she bumped her head and wanted comforting. Now I can show her a sign and pretty much the next day she’s got it down. We’re both still learning new ones every day. Its great! 😀

I think that Will looks a lot like both of you but in that last picture he REALLY looks like his mama!!
Katie says
Welllll….we were thisclose to tatting up Will permanently…but then we rethought that thorn around the neck tat and went with a temporary truck on the belly 🙂

Katie says
We did a limited number of signs…mostly because Will can say yes when we ask him if he wants something. The ones we chose to do were before he really started talking – we did more, drink, all done, please, and eat. He also made up a sign for paci. It took really fast….I would sign more and then Jer would give me more and then we’d clap and make a big to-do about it. Then vice versa. It took really fast probably because we rewarded with mini marshmellows 🙂 I would say that at 10 months of age, it took Will roughly about a week to catch a new sign and then initiate it.

Katie says
Haha! I was actually thinking that same thing…but to be fair to Will I didn’t want to cross things off that didn’t happen the way I intended 🙂 And you know we actually did a Play-Doh experience…one mini tub of lime green (the real unedible stuff) and I think I will need to postpone any future playdoh fun for a couple more years….I’m still vaccuuming it out of the cracks between the floor boards!

You have such a beautiful family! That picture of your husband is definitely a keeper! There is something about a man smiling with the crinkly eye effect that melts my heart. It’s almost like you can see the love and pride that he has for his family eminating from his pores. Plus, that pic of Will relaxing against your hubs is so precious!
Erin says
That doesn’t look like the sign for more… Is that something you guys made up? This is how my daughter (and all the other babies we know) signs more:
http://www.lifeprint.com/asl101/pages-signs/m/more.htm
Katie says
We did that sign originally – but that’s how Will clapped at first so we thought it was confusing 🙂 So we modified it to point to the palm – which we found out later is a generally accepted modified version. I guess every family is different 🙂

Katie says
You live in the South so I think that it’s perfectly acceptable for you to put some of those items on your Fall list. Those are the “Southern Rules” – summer extends waaaaaaaaaay into Fall.
Anna, Sydney says
Thanks Hannah, that’s really helpful. I’ll start my research straight away! 🙂 It just sounds so amazing to be able to communicate and skip some of the guessing or assuming, which I’d imagine might be the case otherwise. Heaps thanks! 🙂
Anna, Sydney says
Heck, even I might be teachable if I get rewarded marshmallows, haha. Didn’t even think of rewards so thanks Katie for that tip.
Very excited now. Off to do some research at My Smart Hands! Thanks all.
Janet says
I laughed out loud at the pic of Will signing “more!”. We signed with my daughter when she was the same age, but the “point to the palm” was her sign for the kids show Blue’s Clues! In the little song, there was a gesture like that about writing your clues in your notebook and she started doing it herself when she heard or saw Blue. As long as you’re doing something, I’m sure the ASL Toddler Testing Team will overlook your adaptations! :-). As for sporting events with little ones, we never had much luck with baseball, but when we tried ice hockey… We hit on the right sport! Something about the players getting slammed into the glass… It just seems to grab a little guy’s attention,

Hi Katie,
I’ve been reading your blog for awhile but never commented. I love the way you describe your sweet baby boy. Let me tell you, as the mom of 2 boys (6 and 3) you son sounds absolutely perfect (normal) in every way. Everything you describe is “just the way” little boys are. There is nothing wrong with him at all and don’t you ever let anyone make you feel bad b/c he doesn’t sit perfectly still every second. My boys are “all boy” and they EXHAUST me to the fullest, every.single.day! I watch my girlfriends who have little girls and they just sit and color for hours or play quietly and I think, wow must be nice, but I wouldn’t trade it for a second. Just wanted to send a little encouragement your way. Love your blog and I love that you are not afraid to share your love of Jesus. Oh, and my southern belle mom would have a heart attack and faint at the same time if I ever mentioned the v, p and b words on my blog and I’m 33 yrs old! 🙂 I guess it’s a southern, manners thing.
Cindy says
My youngest signed too. It was so helpful — it limited his frustrations about communicating with us.
And re: Jeremy — I don’t think I’ve ever seen all those nice teeth before. haha Great photos.
I used to think Will looked exactly like Jeremy, but as he grows older you can definitely see his mommy in him!
