I have to tell you a secret.  I hate….hate with a passion….taking selfies.  HATE.  It feels so yucky to me.  And when I do, I end up with some sort of weird angled photo with a creepy smile and a hair disfunction.  Because of the instantaneous nature of selfies, take two is absolutely necessary….where I sport the love child of Blue Steel and “surprise birthday party face” and usually my kid’s elbow photobombs that one.  Take three…I look like Jack Black making a duck face.  Next thing I know, my phone dies with 39 versions of no acceptable and completely embarrassing selfies on the camera roll.

What I hate even more is when someone else takes my picture.  It’s weird.  In college and a little afterward, I did some modeling and loved it.  But now?  No thank you!  I think it’s my low confidence in how I look.  That’s pretty normal, right?  Feeling like two days ago you were rocking a hot bod (even if you didn’t think it was hot then!) and now you are discovering you are in your mid-thirties and rocking some sags and bags….and rolls….and things are loose and wiggly and rolly polly.  After four kids, my shape has completely changed.  My style now is old maternity clothes with double spanx.  And my closet is constantly changing sizes.  I never know what fits in there and can’t go shopping because….well….FOUR KIDS.

SOOOOOoooo….my solution to this dilemma of postpartum closet woes is Le Tote.  They came to me and at first I was like….dude, that is probably one of those services that just send you items so that you can buy, buy, buy.  And I can’t do that.  But this one is a little different.

Le Tote is a clothing rental service that gives you access to their huge closet of clothing and accessories.  They charge a flat fee each month and shipping is free.  So before I give you all the details on how it works…I’m going to tell you that I am using this service for the next six months as a way to get back to figuring out this new figure.  Also…I am trying clothing that is different than my normal style.  This past month I tried more edgy pieces and LOVED the way I felt in them.  I even made the effort to do my hair and makeup when I had new pretties in the closet!  Even Jeremy noticed and said that I looked so great that he wanted to….never mind 🙂

The point is…my confidence got boosted and as cheesy as it sounds…I am really grateful for that.  It’s amazing what a little clothing can do.

Okay…so if you are interested in hearing more about Le Tote…here’s the skinny….

It’s very simple.  You go to their site and fill out your size profile and then click on items that you love to add them to your virtual closet.  You have to click on that little heart in the corner below the picture.  Then a stylist will curate your own tote with items you “hearted”.  You can customize your box and get exactly what you want too…so 24 hours before the box is shipped, you can go and switch items to your hearts content.  That means if you have a special date this week and you want a specific dress….that can happen!

One of my favorite features is the “Shares” at the bottom of the page for each item.  You get to see pictures of what that item looks like on real people.  Subscribers can upload their own selfies to show the actual fit on actual figures.  Models are real people too…but let’s face it….models can make anything look good!

So you confirm your items and then your box will arrive in the mail with 3 garments and 2 accessories.  You get to wear them for as long or as little as you want.  Then when you are done, you send the whole tote back in the prepaid envelope and they’ll send you a new tote immediately.  If you do happen to love something and can’t part with it….then Jack n Rose that sucker and “never let it go!”.  Send everything else back and LeTote will know that you’d like to purchase your favorite piece! They charge the card on file  and send a new tote.  Easy as that!

This past month I got this black tunic and paired it with some leggings and black strappy sandals.

It was actually a pretty kid friendly outfit because the top was nice tshirt material and super comfortable.  Also, I could still squat and pick up the kiddos.

Another piece I got was this black & blue dress.  I liked the swoopy-ness of the back.

And I paired it with some silver earrings that were casual but still added a bit of bling.

    I’ve been trying to put more effort into my daily style, even if I’m just making a grocery store run, because I’ve noticed how much it makes me FEEL better. I’ve been hearing a lot about these type of styling services and I think it’s a great way to force us out of our clothing comfort zone. I would love to try one out sometime!

  5. Dang girlfriend! You are rocking it! I so so so hear you on the ‘oh I did have a hot body and didn’t realize it before I was on the downhill slide after babies’. But you look amazing and I think so much of that is the reflection of your happiness 🙂
    I’ve always wanted to try Le Tote, but I’m terrified of ruining a piece! Maybe once I don’t have toddlers…someday.

  6. Hmmm I keep contemplating these personal shopper sites and haven’t been brave enough to try them. The rental idea is interesting though and Katie Bower hasn’t steered me wrong yet! (Seriously, if you say to try it, I do. Like every time.)

  9. Thank you for sharing this. I have been thinking about Stitch fix or some other service where you have to buy and I honestly can’t really afford that… but this I may be able to do. I am having a baby in November and after 2 kids and now this third one I know my body after baby is going to take some getting used to. Not sure I’ll ever get that old body back (or that I even want to) but this may be a good way to get back into the groove without having to go to the mall and without having to deal with the trauma of dressings rooms and shopping with 2 kids under the age of 3.

    Second…I would MUCH rather take a selfie than have someone else take a photo of me. It’s the control thing, I think. I get to position my face to the best angle (meaning: minimizing how many chins I have) and then if nothing comes out in a way that makes me feel good, DELETE and nobody knows it ever happened. 😀 PLUS, it’s mostly from the neck or shoulders up. No lumps and bumps and double wide hips. haha

    Lastly…I LOVE Will’s duck face in the first photo. Totally adorable.

  13. I think you are super cute. I do know how you feel. I have had 5 children and I honestly miss my other body. Nothing looks good anymore. Blah. Btw, I am older than you and feel funny in the new fashions. But you look great. Just keep being a great wife and mother. Such a sweet looking family.

  17. What size range do they serve? Thanks to kids I not only have a new body shape, I’m also in a different size bracket (I was in the 10-12 range, but now I’m in the 14-16 range, which is not always served on web sites like these). Will I be able to find clothes in my size there?

  21. I do selfies because of several reasons….I read once that it’s necessary to remind people of the person behind the lens to allow them to connect with you. Also…I don’t want my fears to dictate my actions. And then I also won’t look like this forever…so it’s good to remember that in ten years I might actually think I look good in 2015 and question why I didn’t take more selfies. It doesn’t mean I like them though 🙁

  22. Well…they don’t have a ton of pants…more dresses and skirts and tops…so if you are a size Large in women’s then it might be a good fit. It’s funny because I filled out the size profile and I am probably a 14 in bottoms and a M-L in tops and everything I received so far was a Medium.

  24. My non committal self loves this! I am always yearning for a great wardrobe. Every year I convince myself I am going to do a wardrobe overhaul but inevitably skip it and just buy new jeans. I have done Stitch before but this seems like a much better fit for my personality. I just signed up!

  30. When you reach your mid 60s and if at that time you’re wearing a Plus size, THEN (and only then) can you complain about the way your body has changed!!! You look awesome, even after having had 4 children!!!!

  34. Yup…I sure was…but that was ten years and four babies ago…I like having photos of myself with my babies and that is the god-honest truth…but that doesn’t mean that I like having my picture taken. You are arguing with me about how I FEEL. That’s weird, right?!

  39. I am allover this kind of site! The ones that lock you in on a garment don’t appeal to me but this sounds great! However, when I went to the site the monthly charge is $59, not $49…am I looking at this right?

  46. I know this exact feeling. The feeling like you don’t have any photos of you and the kids and yet not feeling confident in those photos. Katie you aren’t the only one out there…same thoughts on my end.
