Many of you ask to describe a normal ‘day in the life’ of Katie Bower.
Well, there’s not one.
Each day is all different. And I kinda like it that way. So I thought – why not start a little series. A day in the life series. It won’t start and finish all in one week. It’s might take months…years possibly. who knows. but every once in a while, whenever I feel the urge, I’ll document a bunch of random events in a random day to give you a glimpse.
Today’s glimpse is from this week.
8am – Will wakes. the first time this week that it is after 6am.
9am – Breakfast. This morning it is scrambled eggs with spinach. Will’s working on mastering the whole fork thing.
9:04 am – Will says “HOT” and then blows on the food. I write it in our Will-calendar which documents all his milestones. Then I check to make sure the morning post went up. It did. I respond to six emails and approve 17 comments.
9:08 am – Will starts throwing the food on the floor. Then he laughs. And I have a hard time disciplining when he looks like this:
9:09 am – Will signs “all done” and we throw all the dirty dishes in the sink and try to load up into the car. That means, I put Will in the car and then it takes me twenty minutes to get all my stuff together. He doesn’t mind…the car has air conditioning 🙂
10:00 am – I arrive at my parents house to pick up some grass seed that my dad bought for our patchy grass in the back yard. Then I head to my dad’s office to visit my sister and see if Cole wants to join us at the playground. He does. We go.
The park is empty. Cole has fun anyway.
12:00 noon – the boys are getting tired so we head home. Cole comes with us. Will goes down for a nap.
2:30 pm – Will wakes up from his nap to find us playstationing & answering a few more emails & comments. We decide to eat a little and change to hit the creek.
Will loves the creek. The fact that it is free and it cools me off from the ridiculously hot weather is nice…so I guess I love it too. I’m playing that cool because the internet would explode if I described how I really feel about it.
In certain parts of the creek, the light is perfect…it is a photographers dream with all that lovely bokeh and twinkling reflections.
I got these buckets at Kroger. They came with the shovel for 77 cents on sale…best buck ever spent. except for bacon cheeseburgers. can’t beat that with a shovel.
Cole taught Will how to catch the water in the bucket and then pour it out. He was entertained for forty minutes doing this.
Cole also taught Will how to dig. If I tried to teach Will how to dig, he would just throw the shovel and then sign all done. But since it is Cole, Will does it perfectly. Anything to be like Cole.
Cole decided to build Stone Mountain. There he is putting the finishing touches…which included a hole the size of my thumbprint that was, and I quote, THE LASER SHOW SPECTACULAR. I love that kid.
5:10ish pm – Jeremy wraps up work and comes down to greet us on the four-wheeler. Will immediately starts crying for a ride. Cole rinses off and the boys climb on. I make Jeremy swear up and down that he will literally go no faster than a slow crawl.
5:25 pm – I finally get back home after getting all the boys toys and shoes and that leaf that looks like an arrow that Cole wanted. He even gave me instructions on where to find it – on the stone. Yeah. I snap this photo of the crepe myrtle at the top of the driveway. It reminds me to breathe.
7:00 pm – Nornie shows up to pick up Cole. We say goodbye to Mr. Blue Eyes….Will crys.
And that was our day. Pretty low key…nothing exciting…nothing grand or fancy…just normal life for us Bowers. How bout you? Do you have the same routine day in and day out or is everyday a little different? Do you have a go-to place in the summer to cool down (I don’t know what I would do without that creek!)?
p.s. IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED BY ME OR ANYONE ELSE to ride a fourwheeler like that. It gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking about how dangerous that is…so don’t do it and if you are crazy – at least wear a helmet. Oh and did I mention it’s dangerous…because it is. Very.

cute post katie. i can’t remember on what other post another commentor asked this question, but pre-will, did you work outside the home and if so, doing what? hope i am not being too nosey. you may have answered the question already, but i didn’t get to reading it.
thanks for the cute day in the life of the bowers post.

We live in the city but my parents have a farm nearby and my dad and husband take all of the kids on the four-wheeler for “rides.” Makes me so nervous too but they LOVE it. And really they don’t go much faster than their motorized barbie car at home 🙂 Great creek… looks so refreshing. We go to the pool several times a week to stay cool and get out of the house.

I’m so impressed that you actually cook a real breakfast on a weekday. It’s Cheerios every Mon – Fri around here.
Just curious — what was the milestone you marked on the calendar? The blowing on food? Or do you write down every new word he says?
Thanks for sharing a glimpse of your day with us!

Same with us- all the storytimes are maybe an hour long, about thirty minutes away from our house. Like hitting a tiny moving target! Ben wakes up somewhere between 6:30 and 8:30am, and naps between 9am and 10:30am. Ya. It’s no wonder I can’t make it to anything. I put this kid to sleep at the same time every evening and he sleeps through the night, so I jus’ don’t get it. But, I like it this way, too. Being at home with my kid, especially when the rules change every day, it makes it feel like a string of mini-adventures. Messy ones.

I don’t have young children anymore, but I do remember loving morning time with my babes. As you mentioned, its always different, but I loved the connecting time of just mom and babe. You are very blessed to be with Will everyday and its great the Jeremy is there early to hang out with you guys as well.
So blessed!

You caught me. I thought it. I love safety rules like you love bacon.

A very sweet post. I wish we had a creek. I think my Little Guy would sleep down there if we had one. We just got a mini pool and it’s tantrum-city every time we have to stop playing in it to do something else.
I too, stay home with my son and I love every minute of it. While we do some of the same things each week, like a trip to the grocery store, etc., we pretty much play the rest of the week by ear. We like it that way. :O)

I don’t have kids yet – but I ALWAYS hear from my friends who do have kids how much hard WORK it is, and that my job sitting behind a computer for 8 hours sounds like a vacation to them… well what you did on this lovely day sounds like a vacation to me!! Is the grass always greener on the other side? You make parenting look like a walk in the park!

Cute post. He definitely does have some blue eyes!!! I love playing in creeks and I wish I lived somewhere where it would be on my property! My parents have one that runs through their land but some times it goes dry and we also have one at one of the local parks but right now it’s flooded and nasty.

Hi Katie, I love, love your post… I did something like that last year:
http://planandplay1.blogspot.com/2010/05/day-in-life-through-view-finder.html
It is crazy how we can forget the little things we do everyday. I think I may have to do another one since my kids are a year older. Love reading your blog.

Oh it’s work… like having your supervisor breathing down your neck all the time. Except your supervisor feeds himself, goes to the bathroom on his own (I hope) and can articulate his wants or needs. Buuuuut, the rewards of being there for your child when they have their “firsts” way worth the work.
Iomay says
So true, there is no schedule in parenting. Loved this post and the simplicity of it 🙂
Stephanie says
Great post! I kept waiting to read what you did for lunch or dinner:) Planning meals and grocery shopping are the bain of my existence. So many other things I’d rather be doing.

De-lurking, Kate! I’ve read in the shadows for probably a year now. 🙂 You are quite entertaining!!

Love reading a day in the life of the Bowers. It is amazing to see how much Cole has grown since the last pictures you posted of him. I guess it could be the way you photographed him, but he looks taller! You are so blessed to be surrounded with such good looking boys Katie Bower!!
Amanda says
I love this series Katie. I hope to see more of it! It sounds like Will and his cousin (yes, right? Cole’s Will’s cousin?) had a fun time together.
Hilary says
Ok…just FYI, I read this yesterday and went to bed thinking about your scrambled eggs + spinach. Woke up this AM and had to have ’em… thanks 🙂

Sounds like a wonderful day!

I like this idea – I always wonder what bloggers’ days are like. The photos of Will eating are adorable!
Stephanie says
That creek is fabulous!! We have one in our backyard – not quite that nice, but it keeps the kids busy for hours. 🙂

I love your pictures — they just, they pop and Cole and Will look fabulous in them. I love the ones at the creek so much. They remind me of the creek I grew up by. It’s amazing what trees and sunshine can do for a picture, yeah?
Okay, yeah, I’m basically just loving your photos because they are amazing.
mindi says
I have to disagree a bit. When you’re at home, you get to be the supervisor – LOL! You get to decide the schedule, what you eat, where you go, etc. At work, you’re always being told what to do and when you need to get it done.
If you have a chance, stay home. I have four kids and a military husband who is never home, but I would love more than anything to be able to quit my job. My 3 month maternity leave with my fourth was heaven. My house was actually clean!!
Maybe one day . . .
Stacy says
And what if you didn’t live a little dangerously? Would you have had that amazing photo of your boys (you especially can’t deny Will’s happiness either) “livin’ on the edge”?! Such a great picture!
Meghann @ A Lovely Avenue says
How cute! What a good idea to do a day in the life. It perfectly captures a summer day. I played in creeks a lot growing up in Georgia. What great memories.
Laura says
Awesome Pictures!
Any chance of crepe myrtle pictures being in your shop soon?! 🙂

Looks like an awesome day….
Katie – am I right that you are from new Jersey? But your parents and your sister live near you now? Did they follow you to Georgia after you got married??
Inquirng minds wanna know….. 🙂
Carla says
Looks like a lovely day Will & Cole are such cuties!
Lauren says
Your baby is adorable and your pictures gorgeous as per usual. And don’t worry, I spent my summers growing up on a farm and we did TONS of incredibly dangerous four-wheeler riding and I managed to stay undamaged and grow up just fine. Mad as a hatter perhaps, but that’s hardly the four-wheeler’s fault.
Katie says
I spent the first ten years of my life there…and then my family moved here 🙂

Great post- Thanks. After a crummy day at work, this makes me want to figure out how to stay home with my boys! Love the creek, too. I grew up with one in our backyard and I have such fond memories.

I know by now this post is a week old. I just can not stop thinking about the beautiful little river you have. I am in love. I would LOVE to raise kids near that secret little spot. You are a lucky lady. 🙂
Chrissy Henry says
I love this “day in the life of” post. You did not do anything particularly special, there are no big moments, impressive before and afters, no daunting tutorial or how to. Just a normal day, the kind of day I wish I could have more often. I love your creek, I wish I had one. And all of these little “nothing special” moments are the ones you remember, the ones that always end up being something special after all.
Anne G. says
Is that creek part of your backyard or is it available to the public? I live in Decatur. I’m from Ohio and that reminds of playing in the creek on my grandparents farm. Would love to find a creek for my 3 year old and 8 month old to play in (minus the cow poo that was probably in the creek on my grandparents farm…TMI?). Thanks!
Katie says
It’s our backyard and unavailable to the public…although…there are other parks that probably have something similar. I don’t know where though.
