Like I told you yesterday, Will wanted to share some of his favorite costumes with you guys in honor of Spooktacular week!
Today he is none other than the itsy bitsy spider. I like to call him Charlotte’s Web…but he thought that was a little too girly. You know…with Charlotte in the name and all…
His costume today is a little bit lame…so we wanted to assure you that they get better as the days go by. You may be wondering why in the world do we have so many costumes. Well, the pumpkin one in the header was a gift from my mom. She got it at Target last year on clearance. But it was sortof the wrong size. So we just popped him into it over the summer and snapped some photos (do you remember when it was his picture of the week?).
Then in July I found a whole slew of these jammie-costumes at Goodwill. Since they were only $1.25 a piece and would be the perfect size for him in October (quick do the math!)…I picked up the cutest three that were in the best condition. Then we found a costume at Baby Gap (any guesses? Hint – you’ve seen it before) in the spring – well, actually it was a sleeper but in animal print…making that #5. Lastly, we found his grand finale costume in a discount store on our roadtrip to Pittsburgh. It was only $5 brand new! That makes it six costumes, totaling $12.75. Which is actually a lot less than one of those brand-new costumes, right?
So what’s up with all these photos?…well, I thought that for future years, I will want matching photos of this little guy dressed up. We are a dress-up-in-ridiculous-costumes kinda family. And one day when I have twenty babies, I can dress them all up and put something the same in the pictures with them…hence the mini pumpkin. I like it when you have a unifying theme. It makes everything more cohesive. And since a white backdrop (it’s actually a sheet draped over our deck railing) and a little ‘kin are gonna be ALWAYS available…I can create a whole photo book of all my kiddos in their Halloween garb that all go together no matter the year. And since I didn’t think of that until after Will outgrew his original costume…well, he’s just gonna be the original mini pumpkin. Oh yeah. That is our theme. For the rest of our Halloween-dressing-up-lives.
Do you guys take the same photo every year of your kid’s dressed up? Maybe you just always do it in the same location like the pumpkin patch? Or right before they go trick-or-treating? And am I the only crazy mom out there that loves costuming their child? I think I would do it everyday if it was socially acceptable. I just don’t see how I could swing having a little Power Ranger in church though. People might start to talk. Well. They might start to talk more than they already do…

We don’t go too crazy on the costumes, my thing during my girls 1st year were knit hats. The first time I decided to make one was the night before St. Patty’s day. All of the sudden it dawned on me that she MUST have a St. Patty’s day hat, so… I knit like a crazy women until it was done! For the rest I was a little more prepared and had them done well ahead of time. She had one with bunny ears for Easter, a pumpkin for Halloween, a candy-cane striped flop over hat for Christmas, and a red one with heart ribbon threaded through for Valentine’s day. I figured I might as well do it while she was little – when she gets older she won’t want to wear anything her mama knits her!

We’re all about the costumes at our house! Margot has three this year. A skeleton sleep and play I got last year on clearance for $2.25, right after I found out I was pregnant, in the perfect size (3-6 months). She also has a Ladybug costume, which she’s already worn to our trip to the pumpkin patch. It’s from Carter’s so it’s so soft and has a fluffy butt and cute horizontally striped tights for her already chubby legs. And, her aunt made her a Wednesday Addams costume, complete with a hat that has fake hair braids (HILARIOUS). I, too, would dress my child in costumes every day if it were socially acceptable. But then again, who says it isn’t? 🙂
And dare I admit I’m already planning for next years Halloween costume…?

Last year after Halloween my mother-in-law picked up a little horse onesie costume on super-after-Halloween-sale from Cracker Barrel, so my baby boy was just a horsey some days for a few months – LOVED it!

Katie, Will is so cute! I love the picture of him holding the pumpkin up close. Great deals on the costumes too!! My mom has been picking some up at yard sales for my nephew. Not one – some. It must be something with little costumes, people just can’t resist them. 🙂

Will is the cutest spider ever! I think it’s awesome you got him so many costumes! I don’t have kids yet but my hubby and I dress up every year and we always take a pic outside with our carved pumpkins. It’s our thing…and someday I’ll make our little bambinos stand out there too!

So cute! Will is so adorable. I can’t wait to see the rest of the costumes! I’m took photos of my little guy today in his fall outfit (khaki pants, button up shirt and brown sweater vest) and pumpkins! Tomorrow I’m taking photos of him in his costume. We call him “monkey” so a monkey costume was perfect. I’m using a white sheet over our stairway railing too! Did you do any editing to make the white more white?
Just curious…do you do mini photoshoots yourself or ask your “boyfriend” to help? I find it hard to make him smile whiteout causing camera shake! Hmmm, bow I’m really curious, do you have any other baby photo taking tips!?

We don’t celebrate Halloween, but I have decided that it will be mandatory for my future child to have a dragon costume. They have the cutest one at Pottery Barn Kids. And if Future Baby Dunn wants to wear his dragon costume to WalMart, dang I’m gonna let him 🙂
