Hey FriYAY!
It’s a holiday and extra long weekend and I personally can’t wait to see our littlest ones decked out in red white and blue! We are having a family weekend with some serious Pedraza Project work getting done. I’m getting super excited to get to the fun stuff…and past the drywall work. Nobody likes drywall work. Nobody. It’s a fact. If you like finishing drywall, you should be thrown in a psych ward because you need your head checked. #kiddingnotkidding
So while I am doing all that, I went through my phone photos again to see what other little updates I did in the nursery that I could share with you. Most of these are from texts between me and Sherry Petersik. Usually followed with lots of emojis. And inappropriate jokes. I’ll spare you the commentary.
So I was really thrown about what to hang above the cribs. I needed something that reflected them sharing the room or them as individuals (kinda like I did with the Brave letter art) and I didn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars or have something TOO big that would hang down low enough for them to grab.
I had a random visit to Hobby Lobby and low & behold, I found the mother load. Three aisles of clearanced out artwork and most of them framed, with glass or as wood plaques for a big discount. I bought all of them. Not really but it felt like that.
I bought all 7 wood plaques or framed art for $28 total! SCORE me a touchdown and call me Peyton.
The VERY best part is that Max’s first words were “I love you”. I am not even kidding. He said it three times in a row. Jeremy heard it too. I wasn’t imagining things. Although if I were, that would be my version of heaven. Yup…my littlest and my most affectionate baby said “I LOVE YOU” right to my face right before kissing me. It was amazing and I highly recommend it.
And the art is all LOVE and affection and ampersands….because get it? It’s Max’s & LJ’s room? Personal – check. Cute – check. Affordable – check. Done and maybe not done because I may change out some of the art in the future…who knows.
Another score was this lamp. It’s navy and cute and it was only $16 with the shade.
I put it on the dresser with the newly painted mirror 🙂
Lastly – the curtains. I hung about six different fabrics up to see what curtains I liked best and it was a close call with these subtle brown and white ones.
But in the end I always came back to these ikat ones. I like the pattern…I really love the colors in here….so I lined them with black out and whompwhomp – they were too short.
What’s a girl to do? Enter my stash. I had bought this fringe ages ago to make LJ a little lion pillow….but I had WAY too much – I had to buy the whole length at the discount store because sometimes they make up random rules about what you can and can not buy….so that day, they said they were having a no-cut day….therefore I had to buy the whole length of fringe. I know that sounds ridiculous but seriously….the discount fabric store is like the soup Nazi on Seinfeld….you don’t ask questions.
I used a running stitch on the bottom to put it in place and it has held up great so far. And yes, it brought me great joy to show the boys that it was like a car wash for their Matchbox collection 🙂
Overall – I love how the elements are coming together. They aren’t any one theme or thing…just a mix of things that look good together. I have a few more things I need to do in there before we do a final reveal…but it’s coming soon. It’s on my to-do list. Right after splash in pool and eat patriotic fruit salad. Hope y’all have a very safe and fun weekend!

It’s such a cute room! I love that lamp. I’ve been loving the fabric for those curtains every time you post an update. Do you know the name of the fabric?
CC says
You are so freakin’ talented!
Paula says
Love the fringe curtains! So much great texture in the room!

Cute nursery! Be careful about the placement of the two cribs next to one another. I saw a news article where a toddler fell in between two cribs placed like yours and almost strangled. Not trying to be negative, just preventative.
Patricia says
Love it. It all looks great together. I’d call it done and done.

Katie, I have never done this before and I’m not even sure I am doing this correctly, but I saw the picture of the cribs together and I had to write. I saw something about this the other day that was so sad. It was about a Mom with twins and had the cribs side by side like yours and one of the kids crawled out between the cribs and got stuck and hung himself. I would have never thought of this myself, but it makes sense when you think about how toddlers climb around on things. Please consider moving your cribs a little farther apart. Your boys are precious and I love seeing them on the blog. Take Care!

Hi,
Were these store bought irate curtains? Just curious as I’m looking for the same pattern for a client.
Thanks!
Melissa Lamons says
ikat……not irate:)

Hi, there. First timer here. I found my way over from Lea’s blog (CiCi’s Corner). I love everything you’e done with the nursery, but gotta say the “car wash” curtains are my favorite. That’s really clever. I also took a look back at your kitchen makeover. Bravo! That looks GREAT!

Looks like it will be lovely, especially love the blue of that rug – but I am completely confused – why are there two cribs. Are theyfor LJ and Max? Will they be sharing this room and if so, where have they sleeping until this point? (I guess I am confused because I think of a nursery as the place where an absolute newborn sleeps!)
Happy 4th!

Holy buckets! The fringe on those curtains is both genius and gorgeous! I’m going to have to find somewhere to use that idea in my house. The room is looking adorable as a whole too!
Katie says
Hi Zoanna! Welcome! I love new faces 🙂

Katie says
Oh good question! Actually LJ did sleep in there…he was in that big brown crib that you can see in some before photos (check out the post before this one to see it). And Max bedshared with me and Jer until recently.

Katie says
Yes! That is something we are told all the time – the cribs are only about 2-3 inches apart and the kids can’t fit even if they could climb up there 🙂

Katie says
Ours are actually very close – too close for anyone to fit even a leg in there. We considered moving them far apart but we felt like that was even more of a danger. Thanks for the concern though!

It’s Magnolia Home in Java Navy. Here is the link to it.

Beautiful updates so far! Can’t wait to see the final reveal! Good on you for thinking about safety concerns and making sure that the cribs were safe for your two littlest!
I don’t have kids, nor am I close to having any. But I would be interested in a post on how well the two big boys sleep in the same room and how the two little boys adjust!
Rita says
Nice room! Where are the animal heads from???
Rita says
Oh and are you still on periscope??

Isn’t LJ old enough to no longer sleep in a crib? Confused, that you would buy two new cribs when you had one that could be for Max. Love the new room, just a little baffled about two new cribs. Maybe it’s a time confusion. The pictures from the previous post show Max a little younger although LJ still looks ready to be in a bed in the same pics. Are you getting ready for baby number 5? You both make such adorable babies, so understand that rationale for two new cribs:-).
Katie says
No, he is definitely not too old for a crib. He just turned two and our pediatrician recommends that they sleep in a crib for as long as possible. Yes it is a little confusing time wise. This process all started last fall…the getting the furniture and such…and NO…definitely not planning for kiddo number 5. I am not pregnant and we are definitely trying open to having another baby – just not right now 🙂

Katie says
Walgreens 🙂 Weird right? They also make noises!

Katie says
The two big boys do amazing. They love sharing and I don’t know that they would be able to sleep without some else in the room 🙂 The little ones – well, we are still working on that 🙂

I still have the account but I haven’t been posting.

I love how it’s all turning out! I have a weakness for navy that may explain part of the love… but I think the art and curtains are pretty perfect! (bonus points for the car wash double duty!!!)
Lacey says
Your taste is impeccable!
Ashley says
I couldn’t love this more!
My mind is going crazy with ideas. After 4 boys, I am expecting a little girl in a couple months! My insides want to paint every hot pink! Haha! I love this more muted palette with the pops of color. I’ve got to tone my brain down a little

Another plea for safety: move that dangling shade cord out of reach by wrapping it around a cleat up high. A toddler or infant could strangle himself in seconds. Truly only cordless window coverings are safe in a home with children.

Katie says
It’s not a shade cord…it’s a monitor cord and it pulls out very easily if it’s tugged. All the window shades in the kids rooms are cordless 🙂

Katie says
haha! Pregnancy brain is real 🙂 Congratulations on your little one!

It’s really cute and I appreciate that you don’t spend a fortune. Anyone can do cute when there’s no budget!
Are the cribs so close so the video monitor captures both? Don’t the boys wake each other up easily? I would think they’d be poking each other through the bars or tossing stuff into the others’ crib and stuff like that. I haven’t had a 2-year-old in a while, maybe I’m overestimating their athleticism.
Katie says
The monitor can move so we can see them both when we adjust it with the controls 🙂 And yes, they do…we are working on it. They don’t poke each other but if Max starts screaming, LJ will start crying too.

Marissa says
Katie I don’t know how you come up with some of your ideas but you are a decorating/DIY genius! Those curtains…I can’t!
Juanita says
HI, sorta off topic question? I’m curious what sewing machine you have….I’m in the process of getting a new one. And there are so many! And I had a bit of bad luck with my first, which had great reviews.
Katie says
I have a crappy little Singer that doesn’t work well. I asked readers about this once and they had great input though…read the comments in this post 🙂
