Today is my induction date. It is planned for 7:30 pm.
I would be completely lying if I didn’t say that there was a side of me that is terrified. A part of me that worries and is full of self-doubt and oozing pure FEAR. This experience is the unknown for me. the great obyss of what-ifs. the unlit road of anxiety over possibilities.
I also find it completely ironic that I am attempting to bring this baby into the world on the week of Thanksgiving. This is the week where we celebrate those brave strong people….probably in a similar mindset as mine….who came to a foreign land and learned how to do something new…something different…something completely out of their comfort zone. Was it hard? Absolutely. Were they scared? Yes. Did they have moments of weakness and fear and self-doubt? Probably. But the thing is…they prevailed. They pushed on. They worked hard and surrounded themselves with the best people who knew the territory. And then at their harvest….after they looked back at their blessings….they realized that expressing their gratitude should be their first and foremost task.
So that is where I am.
I have realized that I too need to pour out my heart…praising my God. Thanking Him is my way of being content and satisfied in this harvest.
I am thankful that I have an amazing doctor who supports VBACs and is someone I can trust.
I am thankful that I am carrying a baby that is healthy and strong.
I am thankful that Will was given 12 ‘bonus’ days of extra one-ness attention and special moments that make my heart soar.
I am thankful that Jeremy can be home this coming week.
I am thankful that my family and friends get to meet my new son on such a special week.
I am thankful that technology and medicine and science are available to me to help keep me and the baby safe.
I am thankful that inductions and caesareans exist.
I am thankful that my body is feeling really really good even overdue.
I am thankful that you, my friends, have been patiently supporting, praying and encouraging me as I wait on my little guy to arrive.
I am thankful. through and through.

Glad to hear your doctor allows an induction with a VBAC. I am hoping to have one when/if baby #2 comes along. A good friend of mine had a successful VBAC, but going into it her doc told her he wouldn’t let her be induced – she’d have to go into labor naturally and at 2 weeks post due date they’d start talking about a section. And I am by no means opposed to a section, I just want a chance for a VBAC.

Both my girls were induced 18 and 15 1/2 years ago. Both deliveries went well, though one was relatively quick, 9 hours from IV to sweet baby. The other ended with a c-section after 16 hours (anatomical differences between mother and child, shall we say?)
My best advice, though this is from a LONG time ago (so I don’t know if they still let you do this), send baby back to the nursery to sleep when you sleep. This will be the last and only time this will happen. You WILL NEED this little bit of sleep you can get, without being distracted by your sweet, beautiful baby’s gurgles and snurgles. There’s a lifetime for that but, at best, you only get one more night to sleep with relative little distraction. You will need all the rest that will bring for what’s to come Mommy. 🙂

My little girl was induced at 11 days post due date. You can so do it, you’re a strong and amazing mother and your little boy will be beautiful and healthy when he comes into the world.

I’ll be praying for a safe delivery! I know I don’t know you personally, but my daughter (my first) is going to be 3 months old in a couple weeks so the memories of labor are still pretty fresh in my mind. God is in control, and throughout my labor my mantra was Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” You can do this, and I can’t wait to see pictures of your new little one!

Oh Katie! I totally get your fear….all 3 of my babies were overdue and I either had to be induced or needed help through stalled labor. I won’t sugar coat it…..not a big fan of pitocin (I tried to handle it for awhile without the epidural…felt brave and strong at first, then caved like a wimp), but I’m thankful it helped me bring 3 beautiful, healthy bambinos into the world when my body could no longer do it on it’s own. Praying for a healthy delivery for you and baby and that the peace that only the Spirit can bring will be with you through the whole thing. You will finally be meeting your little boy! That pretty darn good motivation 🙂

You have very wonderful family. This morning when i saw you post i thought i should share my story. I had our son through induction. I was 42 weeks pregnant, and after 40 weeks i had ultrasound every other day and on Jan 31 2007 i was scheduled for ultrasound at 1:30pm and at that ultrasound they said you placenta is matured and we can not let you go home. They did all kinds of test and the induction process start at the same time as yours 7:30pm and our son was born on Feb 3rd @2.15am. I was very nervous too like you. But as you know ,at the end its all worth it.:) Can’t wait to see the little man and Will’s picture together:) of-course yours too.

I hope all goes well for you today! I was induced with my first at a week past due, (and then was 11 days late with my second and third). I don’t know what your options are, but if they let you try some other options besides Pitocin first that might be easier for you. Sometimes you just need a little jump start into labor. : )
When I was induced the labor was about 8 hours, but I did it naturally. I had expected it to be a lot longer, and right when I felt like I couldn’t do it anymore it was time to push! I think the warm bath helped a lot (and that’s where not being on Pit was nice because I could get in the bath.).

I was induced with my first one and it terrified me as well. All went well for awhile and long story short (and to not scare you too much), we had to do a C-section. All was great though, there was no way I was going to give birth naturally to a 9 lb 10 oz baby when I never dialated! It went quickly though. I went in at 7 pm and she was born at 3 am. I wish you the best and look forward to updates! I’ve been checking regularly today but didn’t know what time it would be. Enjoy your last few hours with Will, Jeremy and your family of 3 before #2 makes an appearance!

Although you probably won’t see this until your little one has arrived, I just wanted to add my reassurance to the comments! I have had 2 kids, one induced and one arrived on his own, and the induction labor was actually MUCH easier than the other. Praying it goes the same for you!
Also, my birthday is tomorrow, so perhaps I’ll get to share a birthday with your little man. And my daughter was born on Nov. 22nd, which was 2 days before Thanksgiving that year. We got to bring her home on the holiday and it was the best thing I have ever had to be thankful for!

My due date was October 26 and I didn’t enter the world until November 20! Back then they didn’t induce and she said it was almost unbearable waiting that long! Thank you, Jetpack!!!!!!! I was wondering if anyone else was going to mention that. Katie, congratulations on the birth of your little boy. When you have some time, read up on colonisation and try to move beyond your version of the events. That is a total fabrication and a slap in the face to Native Americans.
