Remember how we spilled the beans on the rendezvous with John & Sherry in Nashvegas?
Oh right. Not really any spilled beans.
Let’s fix that, shall we?
We met up with some of our very favorite bloggers, John & Sherry Petersik, for a 24 hour romp around the city. It was full of pancakes, Parthenons, and pleasant park patrolling with a little country twist. Basically it was more fun than lickable wallpaper. Just think about that one for a minute!
Our home away from home was Hotel Preston and it was full of swankiliciousness. At the very moment of entering we knew that this would be the perfect place to find inspiration for our very own homes. And even though our styles are a bit different (Sherry has a modern flare and I am more on the cluttered side of style), we both loved the thought of incorporating some of that Preston swank into our idea files and possibly even applying those chic welcoming-ways for our own set of houseguests.
So the question was – how do two bloggers share some great hotel inspiration and suggest DIY projects, comfy ways to host a housecrasher, and affordable alternatives to some fabulous & fun decor ideas?
Well, we pulled a Speidi.
(mom – I’ll explain later)
John whipped out the Flip video camera (a la Spencer style minus mass creepiness) and we went to work lipsyncing a horrible music video hosting a two-part series of ways that we gleened inspiration from Hotel Preston’s decor. Wanna take a look? Well, first – head over to Young House Love and check out the first part of our video.
then.
and this is the important part.
then.
come on back over here and watch part two.
or you can buck conformity and do it backwards.
But I can’t promise that it won’t throw your whole day off.
So without further diversions – here is the video chock full of hotel inspiration and a pretty rockin’ pink slip that looks like it is just my size 🙂 Enjoy!

We are headed to Nashville in 2 weeks, do you suggest any hotel specifically?? If you don’t mind, we are hotel shopping do you mind splurging how much that hotel was?! We are hotel bargain shoppers!! Thanks Katie!

Loved the videos! You know I have to ask, though – did you guys purposely co-ordinate your outfits for the picture above?

Too cute! I followed orders and watched this one second. Great ideas! I keep a spare hairdryer on our guestroom’s dresser drawer, and extra hangers in the closet. I love the ice bucket idea you guys shared. Glad you had fun in Nashville!

You would pre-drill the holes in the ply wood then cover with foam and fabric. Before it is on the wall take a XXXL needle and SUPER strong string and sew on the button and just pull tight in back.
You should not drill foam and fabric because it would twist.

I just discovered your blog through Young House Love. It’s fantastic and your home is BEAUTIFUL!

Great hotel chic tips. Another way to do the buttoning on the headboard would be to drill the holes as you said but to add fabric covered buttons (that you do from a kit) … put wire thru the button hole on the back and feed the wire thru to the back. Twist the wire so the button is taut and then staple down the wires on the plywood to keep them in place. Makes a really nicely finished product.

JenM – you are too funny. Nope we didn’t coordinate our outfits – I planned my outfit WEEKS in advance 🙂 You know meeting up with such blogebrities is a big deal!
Christel & Sharon – glad to hear that there are plenty more ways to tackle that headboard project. Obviously I am not as clear and concise on video as I would like – so to clarify, I would probably just stab a hole through the fabric and foam if I did decide to make a super chic headboard and then use a wood screw with a washer to just drill the plywood into the studs. The washer would hold the fabric down enough and provide the little spot for your hotglued buttons to attach. I like the idea of using wire too though!
Jo – Hi girl – actually no hotels to recommend specifically. I think we paid for the Hotel Preston $80 a night (don’t quote me on that) and that included a discount for staying two nights. It worked for the Petersiks since they travel with their dog Burger, so in the end I would definitely give it a thumbs up 🙂

Katie,
Thanks for responding! 🙂 We were wanting to take our pup, Brightyn, but she’s enormous! I can’t sneek her in 😉

Too funny, girls!
We frequently have family coming to visit & usually stay for a week or two each time. We incorporate some of what you mentioned on the videos. We also always make sure to have a few things on hand: unopened toothbrushes, toothpaste, disposable razors and shaving cream. Always good to have available in cases of lost luggage or forgotten items!
