Great Giveaway – Modern Bird Studios

Way back in June, the fine folks at Modern Bird Studios emailed me and asked about doing a giveaway.  They also wanted to send me a custom piece of work for my own home.  I was all like “Score!” (bootie shake) and “heck yeah!” (drop it like it’s hot).

They had no idea what they were getting themselves into.  I think I gave a whole new definition to ‘high maintenance’.  Mariah Carey has nothing on Katie Bower. 

That was June.  Six months later I am actually hosting the giveaway….but first let me tell you about my experience: 

We went through different image after different image.  Different color after different color.   Orient it this way.  Eliminate this dot.  Shave this.  Move that.  And they were FANTASTIC.  The customer service at Modern Bird is unreal.  And that is just the beginning. 

You see, they create HAND-PAINTED custom pieces of art based on your own photos.  And they do it on wood.  Here are a couple of their two-toned pieces:

Beautiful, right? 

It’s modern. 

It’s personal. 

It’s like the perfect gift to give someone who is the hardest person ever to shop for.  LIKE MY BOYFRIEND.  That’s right…I decided to keep this one a secret from my darling boytoy so that I could give it to him as a present.  I would have saved it till Christmas, but I wanted you guys to have a chance to win your own.  So you wanna see what we did? 

Aww.  So cute.  And I know this is dumb…but I even am glad that they painted the picture on that particular piece of wood.  I like how the wood grain is broader on the one side than the other…and that it changes right near Will’s head.  It’s little details like this that I can appreciate in true artistry.

Jeremy opened the package and loved it.  He loved the fact that it was on wood…it was very masculine he said.  And he said he had never seen anything like it before.  I can imagine that since this is a personalized gift, it would appeal more to men than the average piece of artwork.

We hung it in the basement living space…opposite from his desk…so basically he can turn around anytime at work and look at Will.  And I still get to see it when I go down there to do laundry.

    My brother is an amateur photographer and takes billions of pictures of his baby boys! He is also my Secret Santa recipient this year and a painting of his 2 boys in their Star Wars Halloween gear would be perfect for his man cave!

    I appreciate the details of the wood grain too. It really is the little things…

    I’m pregnant (with my first) and should probably say I’d get an adorable photo of my baby… but truth be told, I’d totally get a picture of my 2 mini dachshunds (and if I could ever get a photo of them WITH my baby, that photo would be pure gold!).

    I love this work! Beautiful. I would get it for myself if I had a baby, but my best friend is about to have one and she had a beautiful photo taken of her and her late father in law. He has his arm wrapped around her and one hand on her belly, it’s beautiful. He passed away about a month ago so I would definitely get this made for her! I’m planning on painting a rendition but this would be awesome!

We started off dating while he was at the Air Force Academy and I was going to school in Wisconsin. Currently, he is stationed in Del Rio Texas training to be an Air Force pilot, and I am still in Wisconsin, finally done with my undergrad and working as a substace abuse counselor.
