Throwing my baby sister a bridal shower is the most exciting plan of my summer. I can not wait!
I remember the excitement of my first shower…that gathering of women young and old all sharing their experiences and advice and their generousity in helping us prepare our home for our life together…I have rarely felt that much love in a single hour. In fact, I can still identify things around the house by their giver. Teapot – Amanda. Silverware – Jamie & Tammy. China – Mummum. It’s a gift.
So that being said, when the fine folks over at Invitations by Dawn asked me to review a product – I literally JUMPED. As in up and down. I immediately visited their site and knew exactly what shower invites (yup, they carry more than just wedding invitations) I would love to use for the Nornie’s shower…it was this watercolored roses that really caught my eye.
Aren’t they darling? Perfect for a bridal shower tea party…dontcha think? And when I got them in the mail, I was thrilled with the actual quality of the product. Consider me a fan.
Yup…so the party is officially in the works. Yikes. That means I need to get the basement done…like yesterday.
So while I work on that…and here’s the best part – you can win your own goodies from Invitations By Dawn. But first – whatever will you spend that prize on? There’s a whole slew of stuff they carry…everything from invites:
to save the dates:
to other wedding goodies:
And of course, my own personal favorites…
how darling are those bike invites…yeah…why aren’t I getting married again?
And these bags? I’m thinking they would be the perfect even for family christmas presents…is that weird? um no.
Seriously – if you have a theme and you are planning an event, these are the invites for you.
So here’s how you can enter to win:

PLEASE DAWN!! We played a really funny game with a relay race to see who could hold a roll of TP between their legs and get in on a broom stick that the person at the end was holding between their legs!!! It was so funny, we played it twice.

Those bridal shower invites are GORGEOUS. I couldn’t wait to see my invites that my sister’s had planned. These are amazing! At my bridal shower they asked everyone to bring a kitchen gadget (wine opener, spatula, apple corer, etc) and they pinned them all to an apron. I had to walk around the room slowly mingling with each table (nice and awkward for the bride to be!) And everyone had to remember as many items off of the apron as they could! Everyone thought it was pretty fun and got really into it!

I love me some dress making out of toilet paper. It’s pretty much the highlight of any bridal shower in our family. My sisters and I are a team and we practice for weeks in advance. It gets kind of detailed. But so much fun!

We played a game at my best friend’s bridal shower where someone put a bunch of products on a platter and let us look at it for a minute or two–and then we had to remember what was on the platter! The one who remembered the most got a prize. I’m also a huge fan of the toilet paper dress 🙂

PLEASE DAWN! I wasn’t into the idea of having games at my bridal showers, but I loved that my aunt sent everyone a card stock note card with their invitation and asked them to write me a special note of advice for my new marriage. After I read each of them at the shower, she put them in a photo album for my husband and I to keep forever. I still look at them every once in awhile and love reading the special notes from my family and friends!

My favorite was a game we played where everyone breaks into groups and uses bridal magazines to cut and paste a “dream” wedding onto a piece of paper or poster. Everyone had to include certain aspects (like the groom, the flowers, etc.) and it was incredibly silly and fun (since nobody went the serious route and wanted to make the most ridiculous thing they could).
I also love the whole “make a wedding dress out of toilet paper” game. always fun. =)

I loved it when everyone brought a recipe that had been passed down from another woman in their lives. I got the chocolate cake recipe from my grandma, the Kringle recipe from my mom…it was lovely to know that the recipe I was receiving was one that another woman I loved had used and loved enough to pass down.
In game fun, one of my favorites was the rice game – where you fill a bowl with standard long-grain rice and dump in a few (I think they did 10 or 15…) of the teeny (gold) safety pins. Person who picks out the most in 30 seconds or a minute wins. MUCH harder than you think… kind of a baby shower game though, now that I think about it.

For one of my bridal showers we asked each guest to bring a favorite family recipe. My mother bought me the Longaberger Recipe Card basket (that I’d been coveting) and I was able to add all my new “family favorite” recipes to what I hope to be an heirloom piece handed down to my children. It also helped me learn a little about my soon-to-be-husband’s family and what their favorites were growing up. FYI– most people brought more than one recipe which was AWESOME!!
Leslie @ Frugal Nashville says
PLEASE DAWN! I laughed at the “how many ribbons you rip = how many kids you have” tradition — I had never heard of it and didn’t understand why everyone was yelling at me to tear the ribbons!

My favorite was getting recipes from everyone at my shower. I still use them all the time and look at them often.

My favorite bridal shower activity is either doing a game-show type quiz for the bride on her husband-to-be, or else getting all the guests to write down advice/recipes/etc. on cards which are all collected at the end and given to the bride.
Caitlin says
Please, Dawn! I just LOVED having three generations of my family and my husband’s family there to celebrate with me. It was so special. My husband’s grandmother gave me a cake stand that had belonged to HER grandmother… such a great piece of family history.

My absolute favorite wedding shower activity is for the host (you) to secretly ask the groom a bunch of questions about the bride and their relationship and then to ask the bride to answer the same questions how she thinks the groom would have answered. After she answers, give the grooms real answers. It is so much fun, especially for the bride. This is also really fun to do at baby showers.
Naomi says
Please Dawn! I never had a bridal shower and have only been to one. But one shower thing I thought was awesome was a book by all the incurred with a recipe, a photo of them and the bride they sent in, and a story about their relationship. Seems like an awesome keepsake.

I’ve only been to one shower, but while the bride was opening gifts, someone had a timer that would randomly go off. Could be 10 seconds, could be 2 minutes. Whomever’s gift was being opened when the buzzer went off, then won a prize (we got candles).

PLEASE DAWN! My sisters threw me a personal shower two days before my wedding instead of a bachelorette party. We had a great time laughing and being silly. Each woman wrote down a piece of advice in a little notebook that I still have. Some of it was touching and sentimental and others were just plain funny (and a little raunchy!) It’s great to get advice from women who have been married 25 years or more!
Tiffany says

PLEASE DAWN! My favorite bridal shower game was this: My soon to be sister-in-law asked me 20 questions that she had also previously asked my husband to be. Party goers guessed at how many of the questions we gave the same answers for. It was a cute way for others to get a little “behind the scenes” into our relationship!

We had a lot of fun with the toilet paper dress. I couldn’t believe the creativity!

PLEASE DAWN! My favorite shower activity (which was a great game that even my five year old flower girl could play…and win!) was having all the guests draw what they suspected (or knew) my wedding dress looked like. The catch? They had to draw the dress without looking and with the paper on their head! If you’re up for a bit of prep work, I had a friend who did one of those ask the groom questions ahead of time and have the bride answer them, having to chew a piece of gum or some other form of punishment. This friend went the extra mile and video taped the grooms answers, which we then watched after hearing his bride’s answer. It was cute and endearing and something different from a lot of the showers I’ve been to. No matter what you end up doing, I’m sure it’ll be great!

PLEASE DAWN! I just helped plan a bridal shower for my best friend and the Newlywed Game was a hit – so much fun to see the bride vs. groom answer to our silly questions. I’d love to use this prize toward my own invitations one day! Is that bad luck, like buying a dress before you have a ring??

My favorite shower game was asking everyone to spell my new last name, which I’m currently in the long process of converting. It’s polish and has way more K’s than necessary! Only one person got it right 🙂

PLEASE DAWN!!! I threw a bridal shower last summer and one of my favorite things was having everyone fill out a note card when they came in with one interesting fact about themselves. I then passed them all out to everyone (one card per person) and each person read their card out loud and tried to guess which person in the room was attached to the interesting fact on the card!! It was a lot of fun and a great icebreaker since a lot of the guests didn’t know each other!!

One of my favorite games was how well do you know the bride. My aunts had me fill out a list of my favorite things and random facts about me. Then everyone was given two minutes to fill it out and whoever did the most won a prize. It was fun to hear some of the different answers and even I got some wrong! lol Another idea is to ask the groom a bunch of questions about himself and the relationship and the bride has to answer them, for every question she gets wrong she has to chew a piece of bubblelicious. Make sure you have a paper towel ready for this one! After a few pieces the bride may start to drool 🙂 Hope you have fun!!

PLEASE DAWN!! My favorite part of my bridal shower was that everyone brought their doggies and they got to play in the yard while we did party things. Took some of the (unwanted) attention off me. 🙂

PLEASE DAWN! My favorite bridal shower activity was where I had to answer questions (Where was your first date, What did your fiance say he likes best about you? etc) and match them to answers that my (then) fiance had given at an earlier. I think everyone gets a kick out of that game.

My mother pressured me into, not only inviting people I didn’t care for to one of my showers, but to having them actually host one! Be sure to let her stand her ground and have only those that she actually wants around her during this special time.
Oh, and since I am already married, I would probably search for some cute baby shower invites (for my sis-in-law) or some holiday party invites. Gotta love a good Christmas party!

My favorite shower activity was opening all of the presents! What? You know that’s every soon-to-be-bride’s favorite part…but seriously, the gifts I enjoyed most were the ones not on our registry. For example, my parents bought us this awesome old school ice cream maker that looks just like one they got as a wedding gift and still use today!

PLEASE DAWN! My favorite shower game was this sneaky little quiz they pulled on me! My maid of honor had polled my fiance on questions ranging from his shoe size, to his favorite food, to his ideal number of kids, to what pant leg he puts on first, etc. It was a lot of fun and made me laugh the entire time. I have yet to poll him on the same questions for me!

I have 2 favorites:
“How Well Do You Know Your Husband” quiz. My sister, the hostess, called my fiance prior to the shower and asked him 10-15 questions-some serious, some silly and funny! Then all of the guests, along with myself, had to answer the questions. We had to make sure that I knew him better than anyone 🙂
“Shower Bingo”. My aunt did this for my kitchen themed shower. She printed off different bingo cards with a kitchen item listed in each box. For every gift I opened, the guests would mark the item if they had it on their bingo card. Winner got a prize. It really got the guests involved with the gift opening and make it fun!

My great grandma got me “something silky” for my bridal shower and when I opened it up she told me to go try it on and model it for them. The room erupted with laugher as I probably turned 10 shades of red. For the record, i did not. but I will never forget that. She also liked it because it was a little stretchy and I could still wear it while I was pregnant (which I was not)

My favorite activity was when my MOH pre-tapped a video of her and my mom asking him a buch of questions and at my shower, they asked me the same questions and after I gave my answer, then they would play the video with his answers. It was hilarious! Oh and everytime we got one wrong, I had to keep putting a piece of bubble gum in my mouth.
Very funny and very cute to hear some of my hubby’s answers! =)

My favorite game we played at my sister-in-laws showers involved asking her questions about their relationship. Prior to the shower, I asked my brother about 25 questions from “Who said I love you first” to “Who’s going to doing all the cooking”. At the shower, I asked her the same questions. For every wrong answer, she had to chew a piece of bubble gum. Each time she got another wrong, she’d add more gum. It was funny listening to her try to answer by the end.
Andrea @ Dwellrepurposed.blogspot.com says
PLEASE DAWN! My favorite and most embarrassing thing was when they asked my fiance questions and I had to guess what he said about me(kind of like the newlywed game). My mother-in-law shouted out inappropriate answers…but that’s what they’re around for right? To be rude and make you miserable?? Oh, that’s just my MIL! 🙂
Christine says
Please, Dawn!
I helped throw a shower for my sister in law and one of my favourite games we did there was the newly-wed game. We asked my brother about 20 questions. Things like What is your favourite dessert? Where would the bride most like to travel to? And some ridiculous ones like what is your favourite traffic sign? At what age can your daughter start dating?
Then we asked everyone at the party to guess how many out of 20 questions the bride would match the groom’s answers on. Then we asked all the questions to the bride. It was quite entertaining.
At my friend’s wedding shower we did gift bingo. We handed everyone a blank bingo card and they each filled out the squares with things they thought the bride would get as gifts. It kept everyone very interested in the gift opening (sometimes people get bored watching that mountain of gifts!) and people were cheering for things “come on cutlery!” It was a good game in that it didn’t take any extra time to play… sometimes it’s hard to fit all the entertainment into a few hours with gifts and snacks.
Jaymie says
PLEASE DAWN! My VERY favorite wedding shower memory is the BEAUTIFUL old italian restaurant my best friend and maid of honor rented for the day. We went with a very vintage theme for our wedding and it just fit in beautifully! Now, I am planning HER bridal shower and would LOVE to give her the same experience!

We played a game where the hostess wrote down all the things I said as I opened the gifts (oh wow…..what is this, etc…) then after all the gifts were opened, she reread them and told us that these were the things that I would say to my new husband on our wedding night. Totally embarrassing but also very very funny!
Maggie says
Please Dawn! My favorite bridal shower activity was playing a “Newlywed Game” with my soon to be husband. Ours was a wedding shower, but maybe you can get some questions together ahead of time and get answers from the Mr. and then ask them of the Mrs. at the shower and compare their answers.

At my cousin’s shower, the hosts made up a bunch of mad gabs (you know, the game where at first it sounds like a string of nonsense words, but when you say them right it sounds like a real phrase) relating to the couple – where they met, their honeymoon destination, etc.

I think my favorite activity is making bridal gowns out of ordinary materials. We used crepe paper, paper plates, ribbon, etc. and put the guests in groups of 3 -4. Then, making one group participant the “model” and the rest of the group constructs a bridal gown. The bride judges the models after they strut down the catwalk in their homemade creation. So much fun. 🙂

I love playing the game of how well the groom knows the bride. You ask the groom questions before the shower, print out the list of questions for all the ladies at the shower to fill out, then ask the bride and see if anyone can beat the groom. You can also video tape the grooms responses to play, ends up being very funny.
Katie says
Please dawn!!! What an adorable idea! Love them!
My favorite bridal shower activity was when my friends took me out for lunch and then surprised me with a shower with all of the people from my “childhood”/past. My family, my friends from high school that I hadn’t seen in a looooong time, my past youth leaders/mentors/friends… it was fantastic. We had a tea-party style shower with cake, fruit, and mini sandwiches. 🙂 It was wonderful.

My favorite bridal shower activity was the “gift bingo”….. my bridesmaids made cute bingo cards & had the guests fill them out with items they thought I would receive. One quick and fun activity at a bridal shower I went to was a purse competition. As you walked in the door, they weighed everyone’s purses and wrote down the weight. Once all the guests had arrived and been weighed, they announced the person with the heaviest and lightest purses, and they each got a prize.

How sweet! It’s great so that guests have the opportunity to sit down and reflect without distraction in the quiet of their own home before the party. My favorite shower game was my version of the “Newlywed Game” that I created for my friend’s shower a few years ago. Beforehand, I sent a questionaire to the hubby to be with questions like: if Hillary asked you to go to the bar to fetch her a drink, what would you get for her? And then during the shower, Hillary had to answer all the questions to see if Paul got them right! It ends up being really funny because you know guys always come up with the weirdest answers!

We didn’t play any games at mine, but they did make me an awesome cookbook. My mom bought a cookbook with removable pages (three-ring binder style) and they sent a page with each invitation. The guests brought them to the shower and we put my book together. I love to get facts and funny stories about the bride and groom and do a quiz. I’m throwing a shower for my best friend and it will mostly be her side of the family, that may not know the groom (who happens to be my husband’s bff) all that well, so this is a way for them to get to know him even though he won’t be there 🙂

Hmm favorite bridal shower game… I totally laughed at how cheesy this game seemed. Until I played it. I got all sorts of competitive and had way too much fun. I’m talking about the one where you get in teams and use toilet paper to make a wedding dress. So much fun! Plus everyone gets to be doing something, and the worst part of bridal shower games is if they’re boring and drag on too long. Let’s get to the gifts! I want to see the bride open up the ______ I’m giving her!

I have never been to a bridal shower in the traditional sense. Only one of my friends has tied the knot, and she chose to have a very laid-back, boys-are-invited-too sort of party to celebrate her single years and welcome her into married life (we were only 18 at the time, so it was anything but well-organized or fancy).
Party games have never been my thing, but having a couple fun ice breakers (especially when the two families are present at one party) can be very helpful in eliminating all of the “Wait, so who is that lady over there with the hot pink capris? And how is she related? Ahaa…”, and I feel like it really does help to get everyone relaxed and ready to celebrate.
P.S. – Katie… you have style for miles. Awesome invitations!

At my sister’s bridal shower I made a Mad Libs for each table to do — filling in the words to the story how the bride and groom met. Each table had to work together to fill it in, and then each Mad Libs was read outloud to everyone. Very fun! My sister loved it (especially since she said she didn’t want any games). I think I still have it the story and instructions for future brides — and my sister kept all of the completed Mad Libs for her wedding scrapbook 🙂
I love love love the wedding invitation designs. My wedding is in May 2012 and I’m shopping around like crazy!

The best part of my shower was planned by his sister. In the invites everybody received a blank square of cardstock and was asked to write a short note about how they knew I was the one for him, or vice versa. It was very touching to read what other people had observed about us over the years.

The best bridal shower game I have ever played is “Paper Dress.” Start by dividing the group into pairs. Each pair (or group of three if you have extra players) gets two rolls of toilet paper. In 2-3 minutes, they have to think of a dress design, and then create it on one of the members with TP. The bride then gets to vote on her favorite, or just give everyone a prize for being awesome.
This is a great game because lots of times people at showers don’t know each other, and some games can be too much for shy people. This game is so quick no one has time to panic, and guaranteed everyone will do more laughing and giggling than worrying!

I’ve always enjoyed the “He said, She said” games at Bridal showers. Takes a bit of pre-planning but is worth it.
Loving the “gift bingo” idea here – definitely going to use it when I host a bridal shower in a few months.

PLEASE DAWN!! My favorite Bridal Shower “thing” (it wasn’t really an activity) was the way they had the gifts laid out. The couple had just purchased a new house so they took pictures of rooms like the kitchen, the dining room, the family room, the bedroom, and the bathroom and displayed them around the room on easels with a table next to them. Guests placed their gifts on the table that fit their gift. So the bride had to go around the room to different areas to open gifts. It was a great way to see the house, kept it a little more fresh – since she had to move around, and allowed everyone in the room to be “near the front” at some point during the party! I thought it was genius!
Kelli says
PLEASE DAWN – I’m not a hu-mongo fan of “paper” games at showers, just doesn’t feel as… personal? I love the activities! My favorite game was when we put random kitchen gadgets in none-see-thru bags. Then we passed them around and all the gals had to guess what was inside based on touch. Really fun if you find some crazy gadgets such as weird shaped kitchen timers, corn cob peelers, garlic press, etc. Good luck planning, have fun!

My favorite shower idea is to have each person bring a small brooch, whether it be a inexpensive new one or a treasured hand-me-down, and make a bouquet out of them. This is then what the bride will use on her big day! Or some just use it for the rehearsal.

Please Dawn!! My favorite bridal shower activity was just spending time with friends and family. I was preparing to move across the country right after our wedding so it was great to be able to have some “girl time” before I left.

Every guest writes down on a piece of paper a favorite memory (funny/serious – doesn’t matter) of them and the bride. Then the bride reads them all aloud and has to guess which one goes with which guest. Very fun and easy for the hostess!

My favorite bridal shower idea was the hamper we got the bride. We then cut a 20 – 30 foot length piece of rope and attached via clothespins all types of household items she would be using (some things off the registry). She then had to pull out the clothesline and show everyone what was attached!

While I haven’t had my own wedding shower my favorite game at my best friend’s shower was essentially playing a newlywed game. They asked her fiance questions before hand and she had to answer them how she thought he would. Definitely learned quite a bit of info and it was hilarious to see if their questions matched up.

PLEASE DAWN! We played kind of a goofy game at my new sis-in-law’s shower last week. We pretended that her power went out and she had to get dressed in the dark before the electrician came. She was blindfolded and had to put on all these crazy clothes. It was fun to watch!

PLEASE DAWN! Geez, I got married 11 years ago…but the one game that really sticks out in my head is the making a dress out of TP. You have to have some creative and fun people to do it, but combined with a drink or two, it can be really fun!

A super fun game is when you find pics of brides in magazines and tear them out and then pic up a celeb filled magazine and put celeb heads on the brides and guests have to guess the celeb bride. It’s fun for all ages when you pic a mix of young and old celebs such as Selena Gomez, Olivia Wild, Hillary Clinton, Jody Foster, etc.

Please Dawn! My favorite bridal shower moment was when my sister videotaped my husband to be, asking him several questions about our relationship (i.e. most embarassing moment, favorite color, favorite meal, etc.) and then at the shower, she asked me the question. I would have to respond and then the guests got to view what Andy’s response was. He was to answer the questions with what he thought I would say. It provided for some funny laughs and inside knowledge for family and friends who didn’t know the little “moments” to our relationship.

Just fun stuff like; “Where was your first kiss?” & “What is your favorite meal that the bride cooks for you?” Then quiz the bride at the shower on how she thinks her groom would have answered. There never fails to be a few surprises!

I felt horribly awkward being the center of attention (maybe because my only shower was an in-law thrown shower), especially in the gift-opening portion of my bridal shower. I played “Gift Bingo” at a friend’s shower, which makes gift-opening a little less boring and lets the guests interacting with each other.
http://pinterest.com/pin/78252517/
Basically, guests receive an empty bingo card before the gifts are opened. They guess what the bride might open, and write items in each square. As the bride opens gifts, the guests mark off their correct guesses, and whoever gets a bingo wins a prize.
Good luck with your party and basement prep!

PLEASE DAWN!! The most fun thing is asking the groom to be questions & then at the shower see if the bride to be does a good job at guessing his answers. It always reveals a little something interesting. For example I for the life of me couldn’t think of something that “scared” my finance, but after playing that game & hearing his silly answer I will always remember his little phobia and it’s now a funny joke to us;) Words of wisdom from women in your life are always wonderful also!

PLEASE DAWN! Those invites are to-die-for! And my favorite bridal shower game is pretty old school. The object of the game is to get the most clothespins. To start, each person has a clothespin and they pin it anywhere on their clothing. No one is allowed to cross your legs (even at the ankles). If someone catches you, they get your clothespin! It’s pretty simple and can go on throughout the entire part-ay. It’s amazing how amusing it is to see everyone resist old habits! Even my great-grandmother has a blast with it 🙂

I found this out by asking if I was a girl, was I a real person etc. Then I had to find my Romeo…good thing my fiance stuck around for this one 😉 It was a great icebreaker game because it got everyone up and talking.

My favorite activity from my wedding showers was how my aunt had everyone at the shower right down advice for my husband and I and then put them in a decorative box for us to read later. Some were funny and some were extremely heartfelt – all were a joy to read. Also been to a shower for a good friend at which we each got a blank greeting card and an envelope with a number on it. We each wrote a note to the bride and groom and the hostess took a picture of us. After the party the hostess printed the pictures and put them in the card. The bride and groom will open the cards on the anniversary corresponding to the number on the envelope.
And a helpful activity for the bride – buy some thank you cards and then pass out the envelopes to the guests. Have them write their address on the front of it so your sister doesn’t have to find and write addresses on all of the thank you notes after the shower!
Hannah says
Please Dawn! I’ve heard of some people having like a newlywed game where the hosts asks the groom the questions beforehand and videotapes him answering the questions. And please don’t shoot me, but I actually hate bridal showers! Maybe it’s because none of my close friends have gotten married yet so I’ve only ever been invited to showers where I don’t know the bride very well, but they seem like total present-grabs … especially when they’re expecting a wedding present too a few months later! However I do love the idea of women coming together to share their marriage stories, give the bride advice, share beloved recipes, and maybe get silly on champagne and good eats, so when I get married next year my shower invites are going to specify “no gifts”!

Love the invitations! They are beautiful.
I came up with two events for my best friend’s shower – one funny one serious.
The funny one was meant to involve the groom’s family and give them a special role on a day mostly about the bride and her family. I had the groom’s sister interview her brother about things like his past, favorite memories while dating his fiancé, details about the wedding, etc. Then we had a bride’s quiz where she was asked the same questions and had to guess how he answered. The other guests were broken into teams and also wrote down their answers. The hilariousness ensued when we realized how little the groom actually knew about the wedding,
and how much her friends remembered more about their courtship than the bride did!
The serious and loving part came at the end. Each guest was given a pre-printed paper for a line of a prayer to write. Each line started with either “May you always…” or ” May you
never…” After everyone had written their prayer line, we gathered in a circle holding hands, the bride sitting in the middle, and read the prayer to her, each person reading the line they
wrote. We were bawling at the end (we’re sappy like that) but the love in the room was huge! We had the final prayer painted on handmade paper and framed, with the names of all the writers on the back. It has hung in her house ever since!
Best of luck on the shower and many blessings for your sister!

This wasn’t a game but fun tradition I read about and did for my BFF’s wedding. Take all the ribbons and bows from the shower and make it into a bouquet for the bride to use as bouquet for the rehearsal. I even put the bows on straws to create stems. It was a wonderful splash of fun for the seriousness of I-hope-I-don’t-screw-up or fall-on-my face during the rehearsal.

PLEASE DAWN! My own bridal shower is this weekend and I think we might play a purse scavenger hunt game. I already know which of my friends is probably going to win…but I’m still excited to see her publicly admit that she has four kinds of hand lotion in her purse.

Please Dawn! My favorite shower activity was a scrapbook we made at my cousins’ shower. We all took pictures with her as we arrived at the party, and then recieved a print out. There was a table full of scrapbook supplies. It was so fun to make a pretty gift for her, and to have something to do slowly throughout the party. I just got engaged last month, so I’m going to need some invites soon!

PLEASE DAWN! A video tape of my future husband answering questions that I had to attempt to answer for the party as he had in the video. I was asked the question, gave my response and then video of him was shown giving his response. 😀

“PLEASE DAWN” My favorite was working on making all of the invitations by hand. I had them down to a system where I felt like an old lady that always works on her quilting. I would site down and pull out my bag of invitations at any moment.

PLEASE DAWN! My bridal shower was a monogram shower. I was given gifts with my new name, initials or other more personalized gifts. It was adorable and a much more to open a personalized cooler than say a wooden spoon.

PLEASE DAWN! I’m not big on shower games but the tp dress is usually fun. A memory book is always great where the bride can put pictures from the shower and guests can write messages/give advice.

My favorite bridal shower game was the gum game. My friends taped my husband answering a variety of questions, and I had to try to match his answers. For every one that I got wrong, I had to shove a piece of BubbleYum in my mouth. It’s hilarious, especially after you’ve got 10 pieces of gum in your mouth and are trying to answer what your husband’s first car was.

PLEASE DAWN! My favorite bridal shower activity was a game where my sister asked me questions, and she had asked my fiance the same questions before hand. She had some multiple choice ones in there too. She had some really funny ones in there. Everybody had a ball.

Recording all the comments the future bride says while opening up her gifts and repeating them back to her as comments she is going to say to her groom on their wedding night. It is a little raunchy but always a good laugh.

My favorite bridal shower “game” is when everyone writes down advice or good wishes and then they all get put in a book for the bride. Such a great keepsake!

PLEASE DAWN! I’m not into the shower games, I just loved opening all the gifts and seeing how people had found the perfect intersection between their individual interests and my wants/needs as a bride-to-be. I love thinking of my family and friends every time I use so many items in my home, even 4 years later!

I was at a shower once that instead of the TP dress making, they had each of us take the amount of TP we usually use while going #1 😛 Then after we had taken our amounts, we were to create something the bride could use on her honeymoon. There were sweet ones (flowers, fans, etc) and some funny ones (lingerie, bikinis).
Adrienne @ Duchess of Damask says
Please Dawn! One of my favorite games was actually at the bachelorette party, but it could be used at a shower too. Prepare a list of questions for the groom-to-be and collect the answers before the shower. Ask things like groom’s favorite color, where they met, when he knew he loved her, etc. Have the bride-to-be try to guess what the answers were. Each time she misses a question, she has to put a marshmallow in her mouth. She can’t eat it though! It’s gets pretty hilarious if she misses several, and has to try to talk around all of the marshmallows!
Good luck with the planning!

What they did at my bridal shower was they gave each person a quilt square. They were told to write down a piece of advice for me with a sharpie. At my wedding the lady who hosted the bridal shower gave me a completed quilt with all the squares of advice. It was very sweet!

I’m always a fan of the “Newlywed Game” where you ask the groom to answer a series of questions about his beloved and then she answers them at the party. It’s so cute when he is dead on and really knows his woman! And funny when he doesn’t!
Callie says
PLEASE DAWN!
I’m not really a fan of shower games besides the Newlywed game, so I think using the time to really catch up with friends and family is where it’s at! Sure you’ll need to have a little something for everyone to do. Maybe a slideshow of pictures of the bride and groom? A time to have her talk about the wedding? A toast from the mother of the bride?

My favorite bridal shower game was when the host put a bunch of different items the bride would need on her honeymoon (ex: sunscreen, facewipes, advil) in a pillowcase, and everyone got to feel the pillow case, and then write down their guesses of what was inside. There were some practical items and funny items, and it was hilarious to hear peoples weird guesses!

PLEASE DAWN. We played a game in which everyone got one clothespin and no one could say my name (the bride). If they did and someone noticed it, they would get that person’s clothes pin. Basically whoever ended up with the most pins won a prize.
Of course, I got a pin as well, which sounds pretty easy to not say my own name. But, a young third cousin of mine that I don’t really know asked me all sweetly, “Excuse me, but what was you name?” Duh, I cracked.

My son and his wife had a bridal shower seven years ago. It was a “Jack and Jill” Household and Garden shower. Gifts were brought for the groom for the yard and household gifts for the bride. Each guest also brought a family recipe to fill a recipe book that was presented to the bride. Decorations were really cute. They used an old pedal tractor my son had as a child, a lawn ornament of a boy and girl which they added a veil to the girl and on the door was a wreath made from a garden hose with a watering can in the middle with flowers. It was really cute. Guys and girls were invited. Then at the end of the shower, the guys took the groom into another room and dressed him in a tux made out of toilet paper and the girls took the bride and dressed her in a dress out of toilet paper. It’s another toilet paper game but this is the first I had heard of with the groom. Actually, the guys did a really great job! They both looked so cute. My son said he felt like they had almost gotten married that day!

PLEASE DAWN! We played this great game where the host had emailed the groom a set of 25 chores and the groom had said which one of them would do those chores when they got married. At the bridal shower the bride was put on the spot and had to answer the same questions and see who got what right!

I have several favorite bridal shower memories. I was actually given 5 showers if you count the bachelorette party/lingerie shower! I will leave you with two from a non-X-rated shower. 🙂
First, I was given a notebook with words of wisdom written in it from relatives, women at church, and guests at the shower. It was so special to me to have something from all the people who cared about me so much!
Second, my sister had asked my groom-to-be some questions about himself for a “how well do you know your groom” game. Each question I got right, I got $1. The last question was an “all or nothing” question. Either I got all $20, or the consolation prize which was a pack of disposable silverware from KFC. The final question was “Who are you marrying?”, so of course I got it right! 🙂
Have fun with your shower!

My favorite (most touching) shower memory was that my best friend(MOH) bought postcards…just simple ones with flowers on the front…and she secretly took people one at a time into her kitchen while I (the bride) wasn’t paying attention…and she had them each write a note to me…best wishes, best marriage advice, funny story about marriage, etc to me. Starting 2-3 weeks before the wedding, she mailed me one or two of them every day to encourage me and send me love during the stressful pre-wedding weeks. I treasure them SO much! 🙂
Congrats to your sister! 🙂

My favorite game to watch was where the groom to-be was asked a list of questions, and the bride had to answer the questions correctly, or had to pop in another piece of bubbalicious. The wad of gum is always huge at the end because, as bridesmaids, we asked the most vague and random questions, like favorite quick meal and tv show during the week.

One of my bridesmaids gave every guest an index card and had them write their favorite memory/story about me. When I opened that person’s gift they had to read it. She then had a cut album ready for all of them to go into. It was a very touching gift and was funny to hear all the great stories.

Um my favorite bridal shower game was a frame that my sister decorated with scrapbook paper and found a bunch of different stickers that had a Mexico/beach theme (we’re going to Mexico on our honeymoon). She walked around with the frame for every guest to see, and then had them write down however many they could memorize! It was fun and the guests were glad it was a different game than usually played at showers.

Im getting married in 2 weeks, so I had a shower a couple months ago. My friend did this game where she had a list of items and how many points the item was worth. Probably 20 different items, and everyone had to grab there purse and it was funny to find out all the weird things people had in there, this one is all over the internet too.
Another game she did was she first emailed my fiance and asked him questions, who wears the pants in your relationship, whats your favorite food, whats most annoying about allison, first movie you saw together, and all the questions were on sheets of paper and the guests had to guess how many I would get correct, and they could try and answer for fun, So i had to sit there and answer the questions, I got 14 out of 20 correct. It was fun!
