About a month ago I gave up trying to find the perfect daybed for my dressing room. I really wanted the West Elm overlapping squares with my heart daybed…
…but alas…my knees vetoed that. Then the ever-fabulous Mrs. Rauth recommended the Tromnes daybed from Ikea. Be still my heart! It looked like the Jennifer Aniston version of the Pottery Barn Jennifer Lopez version. But my Atlanta store didn’t carry it….and they wanted me to pay more in shipping than for the actual product.

And when that happens, it’s perfectly okay to whip out the Peshawww! (that’s my “yea right, that’ll happen when Kim Kardashian has a flat booty” word). Try it sometime…it’s fun.
So you can imagine my elation when the day after I gave up my search, the Ikea beauty showed up on Craigslist. And at $145 – in brand new condition! Booyah!
Enter yummy linen fabric at $2 a yard.
And an hour later you have a yummy covered mattress on a daybed!
Yes, it still needs a little bit of fitting to make it perfect but for now it helps create a more uniform look. And I can’t complain about having a new cover for my mattress for under $10! Plus the linen brings in yet another texture for this come-over-and-touch-me kinda room. Next up – pillows 🙂 And maybe a Chuck Norris joke…we’ll see 🙂
That’s a great deal! I’m glad that you were able to find the exact bed that you wanted.
Gorgeous daybed — and good job on the price! Can we see pics of the whole dressing room? It is really a room just for dressing? If so, I am JEALOUS!!! I adore your blog, keep it up!
You have the BEST Craigslist luck, I swear!
oh my gosh that looks so great! we are in need of a daybed – great CL score!
Oh I love the cover, and what a deal on the bed! Good work lady. Can’t wait for the pillow post (and a view of the entire dressing room..hint hint).
Girl… SHOOT! Your CL skills are out of this world! The bed looks fab as does the mattress cover. I’ve been thinking about learning to sew, and I feel like it would be extremely helpful. We shall see.
looks GREAT 🙂 I need sewing talent 🙂
I love it!! Thanks for putting it in your sidebar wish list earlier. It’s now on my wish list to use on my screened porch.
You crafty little minx, you. I am going to bury my face in that daybed. You think I’m kidding.
Love it!

Great Deal…and I love the linen. I wish I lived in a bigger town so that our craigslist was better.
You seriously come across the BEST finds. I adore it.
And, I’m totally green with envy.
There, I said it. Phhssshaw.
What a gem! How do you unearth these fantastic finds things in the most unexpected places? Teach me your ways, K.
Love the texture the linen adds. I bet it offsets the capiz chandy beautifully!
I have a favor to ask…. can you measure the high of the space under the bed?? I have a daybed without a frame, and I’m wondering if the pop-up trundle bed would fit under this ikea frame… if so, I’m driving to the Atl IKEA this weekend to get one 🙂
Hi Katie – so hopefully you’ll see this comment seeing as it’s quite an old post. I am thinking about the same daybed and have two questions for you –
#1 Is it a standard size twin mattress?
#2 Where did you get those large white texture pillows? Are they an Ikea find?
Thanks!
Hey Suzanne –
The mattress is a standard twin…however, the daybed requires slats or a bunky board instead of a boxspring so make sure you have one on hand before purchasing! And you nailed it with question #2 – they are indeed Ikea. The covers are 24 or 26 inchers and the pillow is 28 – but after a little wrestling, they fit real niiiice 🙂

Cool site, love the info.
Hi! I just found your blog via “Young House Love” and I am loving every section. Today I even framed some of my charcoal artwork from college, your bird drawing inspired me! 🙂
Question: Do you have a pattern, or know where I can get the steps for the daybed cover? It seems simple enough and I’d like to sew one of my own. I just inherited my grandmother’s sewing machine. Thanks!
Hi Jess –
I don’t have a pattern for a daybed cover but I do know what I did. I first cut a piece 39″ x 75″ for the top of the mattress plus an extra inch on both the length and width for sewing allowance. Then I cut four pieces (2 at 41″ x depth of my mattress & boxspring & four inches extra and 2 at 77″ x depth of mattress & boxspring & 4″) for the sides. After sewing the four sides onto the top piece, I then sewed the side pieces to each other for the corners (1″ for seam allowance). Does this make any sense? When in doubt you can always try to put the fabric onto the mattress and then pin it to a perfect fit. Then just slip it off and sew wherever a pin lies 🙂
Happy Sewing!

Thanks so much! It makes sense, and it’s a simple project, I will give it a whirl. I think it will be cheaper and more effective then searching and searching for the perfect duvet/comforter:) Take care!
OK where is that gorgeous comforter from? I thought I saw somewhere that you mentioned Big Lots but when was that?
The gray-green one? Yeah…my mom got it for me AGES ago…like over ten years ago.
Maybe you could find a similar one on ebay or overstock?
