Goodwill was good to me in the sunshine state.
I am sure you remember because it was like the most important news ever but just in case you have a mild case of the forgets, my girl Sherry and I hit up a local Goodwill when we went on our beach vacation. It was fast. It was dirty. It was Goodwill. And we recapped all our finds and what we shelled out hundreds of pennies for. My list included a metallic gold and silver tablecloth, a couple faux bois placemats, and this pillow.
It was a fun yellow and blue flower watercolor piece originally from Target. It still had it’s tags and boasted the Threshold emblem (I love that line, don’t you?!). Well, I rescued the pretty little thing and thought it might be just the fun splash of color my living room needed.
Doesn’t it look like it came home? Not just literally but figuratively too. Like it was always supposed to live with my couch and be a part of the summer pillow ensemble.
I grabbed a few other pillows and a fun throw and together they look downright fun. The yellow woodgrain pillow was something I threw together using the pocket pillow cover method and the dark teal pillow was also some $1 a yard fabric that I made into a new cover. It’s velvety. Basically I just wanna cuddle it like Miley does with her copy of Emily Post’s Etiquette. oh.right.
Anyhoo…I thought it would be fun to see how this cheap thing made it across the state line and back at home with me.
Oh and for all you germ-aphobes….I simply throw thrift store pillows in the washer and then tumble dry on low. You can toss a couple tennis balls in the dryer too for added fluffiness. Clean as a whistle.
And because I couldn’t help it…I photoshopped this room a different color. I am so over the toothpaste colored walls. It would be pretty in a certain space…just not this one…it’s dirty…and marked up…and I can not wait to save up enough money to have someone paint the 22 feet high trim bright white. Darn you vaulted ceilings. Darn you to heck.
I love the pillow! That couch looks so cozy. I’ll send some prayers your way that Will’s first day isn’t TOO hard on you! 😀
Yep. Looked like it’s always belonged. Nice.
The pillow is perfection and I’m glad to know I shouldn’t let the “spot clean only” tags fool me.
If only Miley would get to know Emily more, sweet Emily would help poor, misguided Miley, bless her heart.
Looks great! Goodwill finds like that are best and make such a difference in your space. Love! Hope all is well!
Pillows look great!
I agree, just clean things up a bit and they are good as new!

Ooooh…adorbs! Such a sweet pillow score!
The photoshopped darker paint looks great!! It would really help make the trim stand out and make your couch look extra white! 😀
Love the grey walls! I sort of thing the grey train is about over…at least I’m tired of seeing it on blogs mostly. But I really like it in your photoshop versions! I need to find me a good tutorial on how to do that so I can try on different colors in my homespace. I’ve got photoshop Elements…but not very good on how to use it.
Love the grey walls! I can’t wait until you save enough up either, just so we can see that transformation. We have caramel goldy walls and I am totally over it. I am thinking of taking a week off of work this fall just so I can paint the living room and dining room!
The pillow combos are great!
I have two pillows in that pattern that I made out if some clearanced Threshold napkins a while back. I love them!!! Such a pretty and happy pattern.
Those pillows rock! Just the perfect touch of color! My husband and kids throw all of my pillows on the floor and tell me how useless they are, but I faithfully put them back and fluff them twice a day. I WILL win the pillow war.
What color of gray is that? Please don’t tell me you just randomly chose it in photoshop!?!?
Gray looks great in that space! I recently painted my bathroom that color and am trying with everything in me not to paint the rest of the house with it, which… by the way, is similar to your current toothpaste wall color.
Love it!! I think the dark grey would look awesome! You can hire me as long as you pay in bacon 🙂

I love that photoshopped paint colour!
I love your down-t0-earth approach to decorating. (I love women who are down-to-earth in general!). I feel like there’s always a ton of Target cast-offs at Goodwill, and they’re almost always good as new! And you’re right, that pillow does look right at home on your couch.
Hello Katie–Love you blog! Where is the lamp next to the sofa from?
I have the yellow Target pillow (the one you have on the right – love it) and have been wondering what colors/other pillows to pair it with on my leather couch…so convenient that it shows up here today! But now I’m convinced that I have to have summer pillows AND fall/winter pillows. My husband’s mind will not be able to compute this. 🙂
So pretty!
I always think your wall color looks pretty, too, but I know what you mean – our master bath is painted BM Van Alen Green and we also think it looks like toothpaste. We can’t wait to paint it BM Palladian Blue or Restoration Hardware Silver Sage. It’s been on the to do list since we moved in last summer, but other things keep pushing their way to the top instead. Someday!
love the walls grey!
your couch is insanely white! i cant even keep my light grey slip covers clean its just me, my boyfriend and my cat.
The old color doesn’t look bad in the photos. Is it truly awful IRL? We have the same vaulted ceiling and 10 years later I’m still waiting to have them repainted. Something always comes up that’s more important to do! Darn!
I feel you on the trim, ours is a wonderful nicotine color. I would find a brother with no fear of heights to paint the trim for me if it was that high.
This was the pillow that was still on sale at Target, yes? Because I’m pretty positive I saw it there yesterday both in a clearance section (on clearance) and in a non clearance section (regular price). I like it!
Hey. I’m a huge fan of your blog. You always cheer me up but that living space won’t be too cheery after painting with that grey. You need something a tad warmer in your space. I know you’re not making a huge commitment to your photoshopped living room but think about it for the future. Love you lots! Good find with the pillow
I LOVE that pillow!! I actually have the placemats in the same fabric 🙂
Love the gray walls! Totally understand about the vaulted ceilings. They look great, but what a pain to paint. I have been wanting to paint mine for a couple of months now, but I’m afraid of heights so I have to wait until hubby is in the mood for it.
I’m not sure if you have mentioned this before, but where is your couch from?
Love the photoshop wall color! The couch and colors really pop out! Can’t wait until you can paint those walls, too.
Love the dark gray walls in there!
I always throw any thrift store linens in the freezer for a day before washing them (kills any possible bugs lurking) but probably wouldn’t have with a Target one. Oh, I scored an upholstered Threshold stool at our local Goodwill for $19. Very happy! I loooove your couch and pillow collection. I have a wonderful big couch similar to yours that is sooooo comfy but looks really ugly because it needs reupholstering desperately. I need to save my pennies hard to get it done and then it will look pretty like yours!
Nice score!

It’s from Pottery Barn outlet.

It’s not that it is terrible per se…it’s dirty…and marked up. Add to that the fact that I have no idea what it is, it just makes sense for me to go with something I love.

I got it at Goodwill 🙂

Deal!

Yup. Randomly chosen 🙂

My living room is Cobbleston by Martha Stewart and it’s pretty much the same color.
Thank you for clarifying for the germ-a-phobes! I needed that in order to function 🙂
Awesome combo of pillows! Especially with the white couch. Is that a cover on there? Can you tell me where you got it, I’ve been searching for good couch covers!
Place nice white teddy bear on the centre and the whole sofa will look better, I promise 😉 Colors are warm, modern and so-to-say sophisticated, he he No, really. I think you can try lime color… Whatever you choose, follow your heart and the room will look much better.
love the pillow it looks great! I didn’t realize they could be machine washed. Check out Dusty’s blog (allthingsgd.com) she’s featuring the same pattern on a towel I think!
Oh that Dusty…she’s the bomb 🙂

The couch was actually a slipcovered Pottery Barn outlet find. It does have a washable cover that we have WORKED. It’s been amazing and cleans up very well.

Love the pillow and LOVE the dark gray walls. When you get around to one day painting that, I am going to be a fan. Just sayin’.
I thought you were going to say, “Like Miley cuddles a foam finger.” 😉
beautiful! I love watching your house come together over time!
The Couch seems full of life after the pillow ensemble! great idea to brighten the living room in summers!
Thanks for sharing,

I just must know how you used photoshop to change your wall color. My dear love and I just got a new house and paint is needed all over it’s glorious house body, however, if I was able to do a little preview via photoshop, I may save us a lot of time and money in the future 🙂 Thanks!
