My friends make fun of me because they say that I never sit down.
The funny part is….I make fun of my mom because she really doesn’t ever sit down. Like the woman is saying goodbye to you as she walks to the car and has to be pulling weeds at the same time. It’s crazy how hard she is constantly working.
This past Thursday, she came over for her weekly visit and I asked her to sit down with me and actually take a little break and just talk. The boys were down for their naps when she arrived and honestly, sometimes the best break that she can give me is one where we visit together. As a mom….adult conversation is the best kinda break….can I get an amen from my stay-at-home sisters out there?! #bigwordsforthewin
The other thing I wanted to give her was something that I knew she would love. She is a big fan of these Dasani Drops and honestly I hadn’t tried them yet….
Apparently you just squirt a little into a water bottle and it becomes a totally different drink. It gets this punch of flavor and is the perfect way to jazz up your glass of H2O. She told me about these a while ago and this time I had new flavors for her during our chat….ones that I was excited to see her try. She is such a fan of new flavors….especially since her diet is totally boring (she lost 40 lbs though! Isn’t that amazing?!).
I grabbed a Dasani sparkling drink for myself. I have to admit that I love me a cold can of soda but my doctor tells me that it’s the last thing I need to be drinking…ya know….trying to keep this baby healthy! And honestly, I am such a mega weirdo about water. If I get a glass, I drink two sips and then forget about it. The next thing you know, I have six cups sitting out all with only a few sips out of each. It’s like that kid on that movie Signs. Except no aliens in the pantry. So for me, I like a sparkling drink that is flavored…the new Black Cherry is my new favorite. It’s mind trickery….convincing myself that in my ice cold can is a bubbly soda (but without all the calories and without caffeine).
Mom and I ended up talking about family stuff, life stuff, baby names, blog stuff….you name it, we chatted it up. At some point, we did the whole sit back and relax thing where we keep talking but it’s while I flip through a magazine and she fills out a crossword. We also have that in common…we both love games. It’s moments like these where we interrupt the serious conversations with “what’s a six letter word for ceremony?” and “Oooh do you like these chairs?”.
Until she realizes that she has paint on the back of her hand and I gotta give her a high five for being like an older, wiser, sometimes quirkier and definitely more musical version of me. This DIY lover doesn’t fall far from the tree.
So that’s how I get my breaks in….a cold sparkling Dasani drink and a little surprise for my mom….good conversation and random laughs. It’s moments like these that I will remember. It’s little rests and relaxations….just sitting with my mom on a couch that makes the rest of the week that much sweeter. And honestly, there is no better ‘me’ time than when I am with her…there is nobody else I can just be me…and refocus on what is really important.
What is it that you do to take breaks? Or work in that ‘me’ time? Would you rather do it with your favorite person or just by yourself? A hot bath? A cold drink? What’s the thing that takes you into a happy place?! Spill!
Oh and for those of you like me that never tried Dasani Drops or the new Black Cherry Sparkling Dasani drink, Target has a coupon within their Cartwheel app for a limited time…so definitely use that on your next visit! Here is the link. And I truly wish you active ladies a little rejuvenation time…whether it be with your best friend or just spending time with a paint brush or savoring your favorite treat!

So nice to have some quiet time with your mom. I hate plain water and use the drops all the time!! My favorite is the lemonade.

Your mom is so cute. It’s clear you two have a very special relationships. My mom is also coming for the weekend and I am very excited for some mother-daughter time! I may convince her to help me paint ha! Also, my husband loves the sparkling Dasani drinks 🙂

Giving you an “Amen”. 🙂

I love the drops! I am pregnant too though and thought I couldn’t drink them while pregnant because of the artificial sweeteners. Can we?
Janelle says
You and your mama are so adorable! And by that, I obviously mean that you are beautiful, strong, amazing women.
It’s great that you both got time to relax a bit (even if you were probably thinking of 100 things you needed to do!)
Kee says
You and your mom and super cute. However, this seemed like much more of a “commercial” than most of your sponsored posts.

I use those drops when we are traveling. Sometimes the water tastes different than what we are use to at home but the kids will still drink water if we use the drops. At home I fill a pitcher with water and add a handful of frozen raspberries and slices of citrus, just whatever we have on hand. It is so good!

Any chance you remember where you bought your kimono? Love it.
Katie says
Target! It was a really recent purchase so they probably still have it.

That’s a good idea! We think the water in our beloved city of Monroe tastes funny so maybe I will try that!

I am amazed that you are able to keep your white sofa clean – especially putting feet and shoes on it. We have a terrible time keeping ours clean and it isn’t even white. What is your trick?
Alli says
This is so cute. I love nothing more than spending time with my mom, too. I also love that no one is giving you a hard time about sponsored posts in the comments! You do these so well 🙂 Go KB!

Flipping the cushions 🙂
Seriously. And also…bleach. Here is the post about washing it!

Sorry maybe I wasn’t clear. These are the Dasani Drops Infusions…different product than the one you linked to. These have the following ingredients….water, natural flavors, citric acid, potassium benzoate and potassium sorbate. They are not a sweetener and don’t have artificial coloring or the other stuff that your link claims. Hope this helps clear things up for you.

You could probably find many better sources of information on food and nutrition than some guy that decided to blog who appears to have no education in the field or credentials.
Lesley says
I’m so glad they added the Infusions line, the other stuff does have a lot of ingredients I couldn’t get behind.
As for the already infused soda. I just buy Club Soda (the low sodium one even) and add a squirt of the enhancers to that (different flavour every time? yes please), or a glug of orange of cranberry juice. I only need my water offset with the tiniest bit of flavour to trick myself into believing it is a treat.
Katie says
Ohhh….I love me some crangrape…I will have to try that with the Infusions to mix things up!

Awesome post! Didn’t feel “advertisey” at all to me. 🙂 And I’m with you — as a fellow pregnant lady, water can get boring/redundant. (I don’t mind water, although I do end up with glasses of it EVERYWHERE like you.)
Also love your sweet, solid relationship with your mama. 🙂

My husband laughs every time I share a new fact about our mail lady or that she told me about a going on in our neighborhood. But she is my only chance for guaranteed grown up talk ALL DAY. #sahmHIGHFIVE

Thanks for the info. While I agree these kinds posts on blogs (not just this one) come off as kind of fake. But I’m really excited to try to drops. I pregnant too as “try” to avoid artificial sweeteners so i thought all those drops were the same glad to know those are different.

You know Katie, it doesn’t bother me a lick if you sponsor a product , are a stay at home mama, and can make some money along the way. Good for you! What did bring a tear to my eye is seeing you and your mom interact. I no longer have these moments because my mom is out of state near my sister’s. She has Parkinson’s and is in assisted living. So just enjoy your time together. What a blessing!
Becca says
Something I really appreciate about reading your blog, is how sponsored posts don’t feel fake. Whenever you’re promoting a product, I truly get the feeling that you’re a fan of it and believe in what it is or what it does. The effort you put into these kinds of posts is obvious and appreciated.

You and your mom are adorable!!! Also, now I really want to try the strawberry basil water enhancer and the black cherry sparkling water! They sound so good!! And congrats to your mom for the weight loss! That is amazing and she looks awesome! And you look awesome too! You both are awesome! 🙂

Me too! it’s one way I can handle the lack of soda. My dentist says no to colas or Dr Pepper. Hard on tooth enamel… I’ll take the drops with me on our trip to Palm Springs.

Great post! Enjoy each other every chance. I miss my mom! :>(

I was going to comment a while back that it looks like your mom lost weight. She looks great! Please do a post about how she did it.
Katie says
She did it entirely with dieting. It is crazy! She has a very strict diet of protein and vegetables. She can’t even eat coconut oil or have salt! I don’t know how she has the dedication but she is doing great.

I’m glad you clarified this. I looked into flavor drops awhile back, because my husband is a soda addict. I’m glad to hear they offer a more natural option than some of the drops with unpronounceable ingredients!

You look so great, Katie! Your outfit is adorable!
