Last year, our ‘new’ small town had cancelled their fourth of July parade.
yeah. I was mad. well, not mad. just irritated.
Afterall, that’s one of the many reasons why we wanted to move from our small town to an even smaller town. the parade. That’s right. I would move for small things like a fruit stand, a backyard creek and a parade down main street.
So you can imagine my excitement when this year, they announced a ressurected Independence day parade. Heck yeah. Loganville is making George Washington proud.
Yes, we were late. And I thought for sure we would miss the entire thing because I didn’t expect it to be longer than ten minutes.
There were some definitely highlights….the trains…
the Georgia Masons would have made my Pappap proud for representing…
the plethora of flags…
…the girl scouts (Being Prepared!) were a hit for me seeing as how I am a retired Girl Scout Junior 🙂
Might I recommend that next year, the Brownies throw out Samoas or Thin Mints to the crowd. I’m just saying.
Will absolutely loved the fire truck.
He also loved the tractors.
Personally I was glad we were close enough to see the dancers – they were saluting soldiers in this move…
This was the one true float…whatever happened to real floats?! the ones with crepe paper and a gazillion manhours?
Of course, as home improvement addicts, we had to get a photo of the Home Depot truck….
The Atlanta Marching Band (I think that was this groups name) was present and they had some spicy dancers and a full band. My mom was a majorette…and I can just imagine her doing those moves. sortof.
I felt so bad for the guys that had the big instruments…they had to be tired…and hot. I was tired and hot seeing as how it was like 98 degrees out…but these guys showed true dedication.
Okay – so Will’s favorite two things had to be the train…they had a mini one that all the kids were screaming to get on…
And the horses…which were a total surprise to me…
The big ones actually did a little trot show right in front of us.
But the biggest, most impactful thing that Will got out of the show was what one horse did right in front of us. right onto the road.
Later on, we asked him to smile…no dice. Until we said, “remember the horses? What did the horsie say?”
Will replied….POOPING!
Overall – it was super fun. First parade was a total success.
More on our Fourth of July a little later 🙂

Your family is ridiculously beautiful. I hate you.

LOL@ the horses…that’s what they do eh? Cute pix. Very small town USA.
We live in a WAY too small town as well-and they have a fourth parade and a Christmas parade that are very well attended, and anyone can enter. It’s cute.
I marched as a Girl Scout back in the day in NY-where there were “real” floats and marching bands in uniforms 🙂 It’s a bit more relaxed in these sleepy lil places I guess.
Our house has the primo spot for the local fireworks, so we are really popular on the fourth, LOL.
Can’t believe it’s already halfway through July!

Those last two pictures melt my heart! Will looks like such a little man! And who doesn’t love pictures of dads being lovingly silly with their kids? He will love that picture some day!

I can’t get over how much Will is looking like a little kid now rather than a baby. And that last picture? So sweet. I may have had a little tear spring to my eye at the thought of how special a Father and Son relationship is and how much I’m going to love seeing my Hubbs like this when/if we are eventually blessed enough to have kids of our own.

Looks like a blast! As a New York City kid, I still get excited when I see horses anywhere. I would have probably lost my mind when they showed up in the parade. And pooped.

Alright – I want to come visit. Your town (and you guys) look so cute!

I was in that parade too! I was with Atlanta CV Drum and Bugle Corps (kinda like a marching band but with only the brass and percussion instruments, along with colorguard). We were the ones in Hawaiian shirts having way too much fun. 🙂 One of our sponsors is the American Legion Post in Loganville so we do that parade most years to repay them for their sponsorship. Pretty fun as far as a parade goes!

That looks so fun! I love that small towns do things like this! 🙂

I saw y’all! You guys were awesome!

We live in a small town also and the parade was just over an hour this year! Craziness! I walked in the parade with my girl scout troop and it was hot hot hot.
What’s with the barricades? And where’s the candy?

That last pictures is SO adorable!!

I’m glad I’m not the only one who didn’t get 4th of July pics posted until today! LOL. I wish we had gone to a parade, but the parades here are so crowded and trying to leave when it’s over is just plain road rage. The horse thing is funny…In Charleston, it’s so gross, the carriage horses have large tarps or whatever hanging behind them to catch it…and then when they have to stop to pee, they literally flood the street and the driver has to throw down a little flag-thing on a floaty ball to mark the spot for street cleanup {I swear I saw a tourist pick one of these up and put it in her purse because she thought the flag was cool – she’d die to know what it had been swimming in!} Anyway, because of all this, I don’t dare sit in the front seat on the carriage ride – a little stench and a bad splash could totally ruin your day!

Sounds like you had a better time than we did at our 4th parade here in Milwaukee. It was 104 degrees, and we were at the end of the parade route. The firetrucks and police passed by to the delight of my 20 month old little girl. Then the VFW’s. Right at the end of the route a convertible being driven by a very old Veteran in the parade shot forward and hit the flag bearer in front of him!! He just went flying up in the air like a rag doll. Luckily the police and fire department were right there since they were right in front of them in the parade. They rerouted the parade, and since it was so hot and already past nap time we just went home. We saw later on the news that the 90 year old Veteran passed out at the wheel from the heat. Thankfully everyone was okay, but it was so crazy at the time.

Patriotic parades always make me warm and gooey inside. I don’t know if it is because my husband is in the Army or because I just have immense pride for our country. Regardless, I rarely pass on a good ol’ slice of American parade pie. Great pictures!

You and your family are adorable! As is your starry tank top. I will be traveling from Jersey to steal it. Just so you know.
Unless, you know, you just tell me where to find it… Might be a smidge easier. 🙂
Kelly says
So much fun, my town use to throw out bubble gum during the parade but I think samoas would be better
And omg someone teach those girls how to salute, that looks a bit too close to something else they’re doing!! lol
Laura says
Oh my gosh I love that last picture where the boys have the flags in their mouths! Too cute! That’ll be a good one to keep for about, oh, 50 years. 🙂
Trisha says
SUPER cute parade!! No wonder you moved to a town that had a parade like that. Adorable!
Oh, and I wore the same star tank top to celebrate as well 🙂
Courtney says
Looks like an awesome parade!! We went to my mother-in-laws for Canada Day specifically because she lives in a smaller city and I wanted a spot on the curb for the parade.
But, with the barricades up, how do the kids run in to the street to collect candy? Or is that a Canadian thing? 🙂
Kelly Lynn says
awww…makes me miss my hometown….some things never change :’) I heart L’ville!

Walmart! It was $3!

ALL boys ALWAYS smile at bodily functions! Heaven help us!!! Your boys are adorable!

Your pictures are so beautiful. If you showed them to the city council (town council) or the parade committee they would *never* cancel the 4th of July parade again on account of your lovely photos of the event. I’m sure of it!

what a nice family friendly parade! i wish our parades here were a bit more quaint & family friendly. they’re a bit on the wild side!
Katie says
I think we were just so close to the announcer on main street that we had barricades but about twenty yards from us, there were none. And the folks in the parade were nice enough to run goodies over to us – we got handfuls of candy, some bead necklaces (no flashing required), a couple squishy balls, some bottled water and other misc. ‘junk’ 🙂

Katie says
OH WOW. That’s so scary! I’m glad to hear that help was close by and everyone is okay! But seriously….crazy!

We were right across the street from the stage and announcer so we had barricades but just down the street was none…we just didn’t know since this was our first time how big it would be. And there was definitely candy and other goodies – the folks in the parade threw them to us and handed them out with side-line-runners 🙂

How fun! I wish our city had stuff like that. Then again, they may and I just don’t realize since we travel to another state for a fireworks show over the water. Anyway, amazing pictures (as always) and your family is just so precious. I don’t know how you stand it! Hehehehe

I love small-town parades, too. Cumming has an annual steam engine parade (for >50 years!) and I took my kids for the first time this year.

Wait, are in Loganville!? I had no idea.
We were in town because my motherinlaw lives in Loganville. My husband was totally complaining about the parade because he was rerouted because of it when he was on the way to the hospital to see his mother. I asked him about it later and He said it was full of farm equipment. Ha!
We watched the fireworks later at the big field and church right next to Tara. There were so many people there I’m just wondering of y’all were there too.
Sad we missed the parade and possibly catching a glimpse of the Bowers!
Katie says
The fireworks you mentioned are at Oasis church – and we didn’t go to that one this year…we hit up the Snellville Spectacular!

You just can’t beat small town Georgia parades. I live in Cartersville and we do them right too … in fact I think we share the big train in your pic … it is our “Polar Express” at Christmas.
