I thought it would be fun to once a month share some of the things that I’ve been wearing. I know this may not seem news-worthy but if you are like me, then you struggle with finding the right clothing. I follow so many fashion bloggers but in reality, if my thighs look very different than theirs in those jeans….and my shirt hugs me in places where they are sporting a crop top….and my overall shape has a fond attraction to all things with spandex. I don’t require plus size but I also need to see clothing on a similar mom bod….so consider me your shopping guinea pig. If there is something you can recommend – leave it in the comments.
As for these posts, it is helpful to know that I am 5’7″ and weigh about 155 lbs. I normally wear a size 8-10 in jeans and a M-L in tops. I have a short torso and hold weight in my lower half ….so if you have a similar body type, you can see how things look. I like my arms so I don’t shy away from tanks and I have a strict rule that if it’s not comfortable, I don’t wear it. Period.
This dress was so affordable – ONLY $15 (!!!) and I was super nervous about ordering it online without trying it on but I love how swingy it is! It has a super loose fit around the waist and even though it is ever-so-slightly bordering on the line of too-short-for-me, I can totally see myself pairing it with leggings and boots when the weather cools off. I really want to order these boots to wear with it.

These sandals are Crocs and I can’t find a link for them anymore….but they are always coming out with new styles and I seriously think they are the only ankle strap sandal that I can wear that looks flattering. Highly recommend them to anyone that is looking for a comfy wedge. I linked the navy version. The dress was a steal (under $22 with code) and I love the looser fit around the body and then tighter fit at the hem. I think it is really slimming for me. The color is what sold me….I love those vibrant blues….so flattering.
I was shocked at how many compliments I got on this dress. Even my mom noticed it! It’s a shirtdress style with a little pleating in the front so it hid the mommy-tummy and I loved that it was lined. You really can’t beat the price tag either. It’s out of stock right now but when it comes back in, you need it. Here is a similar look. My shoes and bag are old but I linked other versions above.
This top is a recent find for me and I love love love it. It is really really comfortable and hits me at the right place for the peplum to flare out. I think it’s instantly dressy! I think I might pair it with some dark jeans and a leather jacket for date night but for my mom’s singing performance, I wore it with wide leg black slacks (yes, they are maternity but hello! stretchy!) and some leopard flats. And yes….I ate a giant bowl of pasta and I didn’t suck it in for this photo 🙂
Ok so that is it for this week. Tomorrow we are having Max’s birthday and we have family coming into town and a baseball game and I’m trying to wrap up the builds for the Pedraza kitchen and film a really fun video for y’all….so wish me luck and lots of energy 🙂 What are y’all going to be doing? Anything fun?!

So cute! I love the trapeze dress especially, looks comfy! I also like that the shirt dress buttons in the front; I have trouble finding anything I can nurse in (without, you know, getting nakey).
This sounds random, but how tall are you? I love when online shopping sites post how tall the model is, because then I have an idea of how short the skirts would be on me! I’m tall-ish (5-7) so I can’t wear most shorter skirts 🙁

GORGEOUS!! We LOVE all of these looks =)

I’m so glad to see a “normal” woman doing a fashion post! You look amazing, I am a mom of six and have exact challenges. I’m not big or small just mom bod:) I love the olive green dress I might have to try and find it!

Cute clothes! I really like that first dress… I’m loving anything that lets me wear leggings and boots this fall, so that would be perfect!!! 🙂

Hurray — Max’s birthday party!! I know I cant wait to see what you all do for that cutie pie!
You look darling in all those outfits!
Amanda says
Katie, you are the cutest! Love these outfits – that first one is my absolute favorite, but that shirtdress is gorgeous too!

You look great! Love the loft top. I’ve been eyeing that one for a while. May need to buy it now!
I understand the mom belly. Two big babies in two years left me looking eternally 3 months pregnant…which is frustrating because I am so happy with the rest of my body! I recently discovered the dresses at Prana and they are amazing! Built in bras that are actually flattering and a forgiving fit on the belly.

Those croc wedges look so cute on you, I looked for some for myself! I found the same ones you have on the khol’s website fyi. I love that cocoon dress on you, too. I’ve been eyeing it for months wondering if I should get it. And I’m sad that shirt dress is out of stock :(. So cute!

I love this post b/c it exemplifies why you are so relatable – you are a real person, just like us. 🙂 Also, your purse game is on point.

Hi Katie – Cute post! Love the young-mom-fashion. Also, you’re gorgeous 🙂

Loving these posts!!

thank you for being so real and honest. Pretty much the exact same body type here, but 5′ 6″. I love that your showing how you can look completely gorgeous without being a stick. I sometimes get caught up in the workout-like-crazy trend and forget that i’m actually a beautiful person as i am. After reading your post this morning, i felt that much better about my mom bod. Thanks Katie. Happy weekend to you!

Love the first dress and love your style! However, are you aware that there is an advertisement at the bottom of this post that pops up with a picture of LL Cool J in it? Ummmm, awesome-sauce. Seeing LL Cool J instantly takes me back to the 90’s and my before-four-babies-high-school-body, though. Oh the irony!! 😉

Adorable! I love things that hide my tummy and flat Mom butt 😉 After years of having a love/hate relationship with Old Navy they are totally winning me over with their tunic tops, especially the tulip tunic. The fabric is amazing. Paired with leggings or skinny jeans and boots=perfection!

Oooh good recommendation 🙂

Love this post, and SO MUCH RESPECT for you keeping it real as always. I need more “real woman” images in my feed-you’d think at almost 30 I would be past the irrational comparisons, but it is still so hard. Thank you for sharing!
Katie says
Love the looks! The top dress looks like a Lularoe Carly dress – if you haven’t heard of Lularoe you definitely need to try it. Leggings are soft as butter and dresses are all super comfy! Happy weekend!

Katie, what size is the very first dress from forever 21? I love it and am wanting to order, but like you, I get nervous ordering online! I’m debating between small and medium, but can you help? Thank you!
Patricia says
You get all this stuff done with four little boys “helping” and manage to look cute at the same time? And here I was all proud I’d finally completely cleaned out my closet and dresser and all the other hiding spots for clothes all over the house … ready to lead tours into our closet to show off one completely EMPTY rail.
If my four year old granddaughter was “helping”, I don’t think I would have gotten past the sock drawer… You’re a force of nature.
PS I am really looking forward to the Pedraza kitchen reveal. I’ll go sort my linen closet to keep busy while I wait.

I bet you would love lularoe. They have a similar dress to your first one and lots of mom friendly shirts and dresses!
Katie says
I got a Large. It is very loose and I would say that it is slightly larger than I expected but it is only fitted through the shoulders.

Am I the only one not seeing any text except the highlighted links? I thought it was just my iPad but I’m looking at your site on my desk top and I still don’t see any text. The bummer is, if you address me I can’t read it! Ha! I love reading your blog so this is a real conundrum for me. 🙂

A HUGE thank you for posting your actual sizes/measurements! I get so aggravated wondering sometimes if I’m seeing edited pics or pics where it’s an angle where someone looks like they might be my size or shape and trying to figure out if what they have on work for me or not. Thank you so much for the fashion post that contains real, useful info!
Amy G says
Thank you! I ordered so we’ll see how it fits… And I agree with the others – thanks for being so honest! You are fashionable and adorable and I love that you will be sharing some of your wardrobe looks with people like me who are not so fashionable!
Rebekah Archer says
I love this! I would love of you shared what size you ended up getting in each piece of clothing – online can be so hard and so if you size up or down that’d be awesome to know.
Katie says
Good idea! I’ll do that going forward!

You described my body exactly, from the height and weight to where you carry your weight. Would love more of these kinds of posts because I think we have similar taste, too. How do your Old Navy clothes hold up? I haven’t shopped there for myself in a long time because I remember the days of trying on two mediums of the same item and them fitting differently, and the clothes not washing and wearing well, but I know they’ve made changes in recent years, too. I’d love to know what you think!

Did I miss Max’s birth story? I thought you said you were going to post it around his birthday.
Katie says
Yes I will. I’m working on the photos this week 🙂

They do fit weird, right? I think they have created looser styles in general…but in general I try to find things that are heavier knits (I can’t do their tshirts!) and leggings. Otherwise I stick to other brands.

Haha I totally said the same thing. Looks like a carly!

5’7″ here too but I’m short waisted so sometimes I can wear shirts as tunics 🙂
