Getting our fall decor out is one of my favorite things to do. It means that stretchy pants for Thanksgiving dinner, sugar rushes for Halloween, and s’more highs are right around the corner. Plus, our neighbors are totally non-decorators when it comes to holidays…which might be a curse or a blessing…so I feel like its our community duty (heehee…doodie!) to spread the cheer of Autumn with people I have never met. And they better enjoy it or else 🙂
Recently our house looked like this:
I say ‘recently’ because before we redid our front yard – it was a place better suited for college coeds to mud wrestle.
Anyhoo…
I convinced my I’m-afraid-of-heights-boyfriend to climb out each window and hang our Autumn wreaths from nails that permanantly live above each window frame. I know that he was nervous…but I mean, what’s the worst that could happen?! A little slip and fall three stories to his death? Does he even realize that girls go through a visit from their not-so-favorite-Aunt every month?!? Plus the risk that one day you actually have to give birth to a HUMAN! Out of your yangcootchcrotchalhole! I’d take a wreath accident over that any day of the week. Pansy boys.
(Sorry baby. I guess the estrogen levels spiked momentarily and I turned you into a man-snack. Next time just flick me in the nose. And I promise to lay off the chocolate.)
Back to reality with our lovely Autumn decorations. We hang our wreaths (we reuse them from our Wedding) and then we throw three funkins (gotta love reusable produce!) on the porch. Our crowning glory is our red & orange ‘berry’ wreath. It is from Hobby Lobby – I got it there three years ago after the holidays were over and it was like 75% off – or about $12. I love our simple fall decor.
And after Halloween is over, we just pull our fake-jack-o-lantern inside and leave the rest up till right after Thanksgiving. Gotta love the versatility in decor that can last two holidays, right? So what about you – do you decorate the outside of your house too? And do you try to hang up spooky stuff for Halloween and then change it up for Turkey day? Oh – and if you have a blog and posted your own fall exterior decor – be sure to link to it in your comment so that we can all oooh-and-ahhhh over all the Autumny deliciousness.
Oh – and tune in tomorrow – I have been working on a project that I can not WAIT to share with you 🙂

Looks fantastic Katie! I really love the wreaths. Well worth the the anxiety of being perched on top of a ladder. Not to mention the bonus adreniline rush, right? I just posted my fall decor today, too: All Things G&D. Nothing fancy, but it gets the job done.
I giggled at your “stretchy pants for Thanksgiving” comment. Now that I’m pregnant ALL my pants are stretchy pants (at least in the belly) and I was just realizing how convenient this will be for the holidays. I’m very much looking forward to pigging out on holiday treats and blaming it all on the baby!

Hey Dusty –
I love the corn husks and that outdoor rug (making mental note to search for one during holiday sales.)
And I can’t wait to see photos of your belly for Thanksgiving. Would you pretty please take before dinner and after dinner photos?! And just so you know…you look like you are just as skinny as before (if I cover your bump with my thumb…you look like you are not with child!). Jealous of your genes!

Beautiful, KB! Understated elegance. I’m in love w/ your black front door & its “colonial” details (we’ve been watching John Adams, the historical series on HBO. I know, right….romantical.)
I have stretchy pants specifically for Thanksgiving too. I call them my “Eatin’ Pants”.

Love the outside of your house (and the inside too)! I just posted my fall outside decor today too. I got crafty and made the wreath on the front door to pull together the look of several colors of pumpkins. http://oneluckycouple.wordpress.com

Oh Miss Katie, how I love to read your blog. And speaking of love (I crush so easily), I am also digging the fall decorations. The wreaths are amazing. We don’t ‘do’ fall (we have autumn briefly) or decorations or halloween or thanksgiving in Australia. I think I may need to move to the US just for this..good enough reason I think. Or live vicariously through you for the moment!!

I love the wreath on your door! Where did you get it? I love fall decorating too. I think I even like it more than Christmas. Maybe because you go like 9 months with your plain old decorations then fianlly you get to put up some fun fall stuff.
