Disclaimer – This post has been brought to you by Canon. All opinions are 100% my own.
I have been literally busting at the seams to tell you guys the big news. No. I am not pregnant.
But I am partnering up with one of my all-time favorite companies this year and I get to bring you all sorts of beautiful and fun new posts that are really gonna stretch me and challenge me to do more fun crafts and big projects. I was blown away at the fact that they emailed me and I literally forwarded it on to Jeremy (he handles the business side of the blog because I am TERRIBLE at that kinda thing) with a note that said “don’t blow this 🙂 ” It might seem strange to most of the people out there but I know other bloggers can understand. If a brand, an awesome, legit, something-I-use-every-day kinda brand, comes to you to partner up, it can knock you down in the best way possible. It is a way that you feel validated and worthy and pretty much like breaking out the celestial map because you want to find each and every lucky star to thank it personally with a bundt cake.
I am super thankful to the folks over at Canon and can not express how excited I am to dish all the awesome things that their printers can do for you. Photo printers are my jam…and peanut butter. In fact, when they approached me I had to tell them that I already owned two of their printers and then they sent out a couple more (which you are gonna want to buy immediately). I have so many big plans for this blog and this partnership is part of that for 2016. I know we all are gonna have so much fun tackling these things together!
So moving on. I wanted to share with you a sweet little project that I made for Valentines day and I just know that you are gonna wanna make this at home.
This past week I decided that I love having fresh flowers in my home but I get so sad when the bouquet dies and I never get to see it again….so I decided to make something that lasts! Like they say on Hoarders : Buried Alive….you don’t need to keep the thing to think about the memory of it. So true. Also true – take a picture…it lasts longer.
Here is my brand new artwork hanging in my home –
The process was a little crazy. I had to get a couple bouquets at the local grocery store and cut everything pretty short to arrange it into my desired shape. I used my method for product photography to take the photos (think tripod over white board) and then I cleaned it all up in Photoshop.
After it was ready to print, I set up my new WHITE (oh my lord I love a solid white printer) PIXMA MG7720 All-in-One Printer. I need a more permanent home for it….right now it is precariously balancing in my sitting room on a lap desk on a microwave stand. #yolo
I printed the artwork out on semi-gloss photo paper and I’m SO in love with these prints.
In the spirit of Valentines Day, I wanted to add a little gold pizzazz. I don’t know if you know this but it’s a well known fact that if you add foil to ANYTHING it gets pizzazz-ier. I swear on salty soft pretzels that it is true. I did a bunch of research and the easiest and most affordable way to add foil is with rubber cement. You just simply stroke it on thickly and let that dry. Then after ten minutes or so, you are ready for the foil.
In my case, I did it lightly in random areas like strokes around the base of the flowers or dabs on the baby’s breath. It was all random. You can see where I painted it on in that reflective area.
Then lay the foil over the top and burnish it till it sticks. Gently peel off the backing to reveal some very fun and fancy flowers!
If this bouquet could sing, it would be all up in Iggy’s business while sporting some Clueless duds belting out “I’m SO FANCY! You already know!”
The frames I used were just standard white frames that finish off each piece and make them look gorgeous.
Best part about this craft is that the options are endless. You can do a flower letter, number, symbol or use an existing photo and decorate it with your blooms. And if you just want to do the foiling part, today is your lucky day because I’m giving away both Flower Heart downloads on the blog today. Just click on the photos/links below to save to your own computer.
Happy Valentines day guys! Happy crafting!

Wow! LOVE this. I appreciate your behind-the-scene pictures of your setup when shooting too. Motivates me to want to do something like this also! I like that you always try to take it a step further like with the gold foil. AND CANON?! That’s big time. So very cool! Congrats! xx

Thanks for the fab freebie! I keep an 8×10 frame on the dining room buffet and rotate inspirational/cutesy/holiday photos. I can feel the love already … can’t wait to get home & print those lovely blooms on MY Canon printer 😉

This is beautiful. And I’ve been wanting a Canon printer for years! (I just couldn’t decide between them because there are so many good options! Truth). Congrats on connecting with them. I’m excited to see what comes out of your partnership!
Also – you’re hilarious and adorable. Keep on being you <3

Wow Katie, It’s hard sometimes to recognize outstanding pieces through over the internet but this seriously took my breath away. That picture is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing and congrats on the partnership.

Beautiful, Katie! What type of gold leaf did you use? I have seen some with wax paper backing and wondered if that was easier to use? The project I have in mind is similar – gold leaf applied to hot press watercolor paper.
Hope you had a fantastic birthday!!
Katie says
It’s gold foil…which is a little different…and easier to use in my opinion!

I’m not the flower type – only because I can’t enjoy them for very long but this…..so clever and beautiful! The foil was a nice touch too. Now I’m hoping I get flowers for V Day!
Lisa says
Are you going to be comparing the canon printers you received? I am in the market for a new printer and would like to hear from someone who has actually used them.
Katie says
Yes I will! I love them both but for different reasons – there is definitely a fit for anyone’s specific needs 🙂

We currently don’t own a printer but I really need to buy one. I plan on printing recipes and prints of my son to frame (probably 11×14 and smaller). We’d probably need one that scans too, for occasional household use. So basically and all-in-one printer/scanner/copier that makes high quality prints. What printer would you recommend? Thanks!
Katie says
I have the Canon MG7720 and it’s an all-in-one and I LOVE it.
