My little sister is named Lori.
Lori is three years younger than me. And light years more mature. and smarter. and more creative. and more skilled. at everything.
And she is smokin’ hot. Single men…take note.
Lori became a mom when she was 19. Her son’s name is Cole. and basically he is the chocolate bits in my trail mix.
It all started on the day that he was born. I was holding my sister’s knee as he entered into the world. I cut the cord. And then I saw his sweet face. It literally took my breath away. He was the most beautiful baby…and I generally don’t lie when it comes to babies. It was probably the single most exceptional day in my entire life.
Cole is the reason I want to have babies.
Jeremy’s hot bod helps.
But Cole?
Cole is my firstborn child love.
Cole sucked on my pinkie.
Cole squished my elbow skin.
Cole melts my innerds and makes them soar at the same time.
It’s hard to believe that one day I will have my own little boy.
I just hope that he is exactly like Cole-baby.
Because, frankly, I like to melt and soar at the same time. It’s quite invigorating.

Did you take these pics? They’re fabulous. Course, your gorgeous sister & adorable nephew make it too easy.

Yep…I sure did 2kids. My sister wanted a few Christmas photos and I was happy to oblige. Anything for family, right? Even if it means dancing my big preggo belly out in the cold saying weird things like “SWeeeeeeet” over and over trying to get a 5 yr old to smile big 🙂 That last photo of Cole was totally worth every freezing second. Man, I love him.

Not only does your sister have one handsome devil of a son, she also has the most gorgeous curly hair. It must not have been easy to become a single parent at nineteen. But the way that Cole looks at his mom in the B/W photograph says that she is doing everything right!

Oh my this is such a sweet post! I bet you are the favorite aunt! Great pictures, too. I love the set up with the chair in the woods–so fancy and rustic at the same time.

What great pictures!! It makes me want to have a little baby boy……only I’m still single, minor detail!

Katie-this is such a great post. As an aunt myself with a three year old neice and a 3 month old nephew I can totally relate to how you feel for him. I don’t have kids of my own but I am totally in love with my lovies as well!

Ok, so these are amazing photos. I love a well taken photo, especially christmas card photos. And how creative with the chair. Seeing that your such a pro, I gotta ask your advise. (setting my pride aside) I have a Canon Rebel XTI, I have had it for 3 years. My photos are hit or miss. I dont like shooting in Auto cuz I don’t like the flash. I took some classes and I know pretty much how to use the camera in Manual or Ap-priority. However I cant seem to get my photos to be in focus when I have two subjects. It’s hard for me to shoot in manual focus cuz my subject (usually a three year old) always moves! Is this the problem? Or is it just a setting I need to fix?
allbowerpower says
Hi Laura,
I don’t know how much a help I can be but I’ll try. If you set your camera to Manual, try to make sure you have enough light to shoot both subjects. I like shooting in the late afternoon – when the sun is going down or in the early morning. I usually set my ISO to 400 or greater especially when little ones are involved. Assuming that your ISO is set to 400, set your F-stop to the lowest setting, and check out your shutter speed. Usually you will need it to be greater than 1/250 to get the kiddos before they move. If your shutter speed is slower than that, push down your ISO to 800 or 1600…whatever gets your shutter speed up high enough. Then try to get the kids to be on the same plane of depth from the camera….like both laying on a blanket or up against a wall or a tree. See if that helps you. Also – try practicing with one subject on different settings…like a stationary object rather than a child on a swing 🙂
Does anyone else have any other hints for Laura? Anyone?!

I am crying. Not the one tear in my eye cute cry, the ugly cry. But it feels good. My baby boy is my whole world and I’m excited for your baby boy to share your whole world with Cole. xoxo

What kind of camera do you use? Lenses? Flash? I like.
allbowerpower says
Brian G –
For all of my photos I use my Rebel XSi and the standard lens that came with it. I generally use the manual setting with no flash. And of course, for most portrait photos, I do some editing on photoshop…like to remove boogers and to fix those particles of tooth broccoli 🙂
Happy shooting!
