A couple years back, I blogged about crashing my mother’s house to share some of her Christmas decor. And this year, I thought she really outdid herself! You did mom. Really.
Anyhoo…something you need to know is that my mother is a music teacher. She teaches private flute, piano and voice lessons out of her home so she really wanted to do something fun for the kids. That is why this year she choose crazy pink, lime and turquoise ornaments to adorn her front door wreath. The oversized ornaments are so fun, right? And I love those magenta snowflakes….they add such great texture.
Once you get inside, the first thing you see is her matching crazy fun foyer tree.
It’s covered from head to trunk with swirly pipe cleaners and every fun random ornament known to mankind. But since the students are usually only in her music room (or passing through the foyer to get to it), this is the perfect spot to spice up the christmas spirit on the way to the lessons.
Of course, her decor is different once you get into the main part of her house. This year’s tree was a mix of silvery and sparkly. I like to call it “Icy Sea Songs”. Try saying that ten times fast.
Her ornaments were silver and white balls mixed with glittery sand dollars, tear drops, and a tulle sash that runs throughout the tree.
She also stashed some oversized mercury glass ornaments in between the branches. And you know how much I love the little white birds with the floofy feather tail!
Mom also added her own silvery touches (that really tell alot about her passion for music)….like the mini cherub playing the….um…what is that? Is that a banjo?
And then there is also a big guitar stuck in there too.
Plus, she has a couple silver toned horns that are flanking the tree. Is it just me, or do you imagine a couple Ricola guys standing by the tree saying “KRIIIIIS KRINGLE!”. oh. I see. It’s just me then I guess.
The rest of her room is just smattered with silvery tableaus that support the icy sea song theme.
I just gotta say…I was at Target with my mom last year after Christmas when she found these birds…and literally I am still shooting myself in the foot for not finding them first. Granted – I only shoot it with a rubber band…but after a while, that stings.
Her mantle. Yes…she painted the picture herself. She dabbles. For fun. And mom changes things constantly so I never know what dabbled piece will be up there next. My favorite part of her mantlescape is that tarnished looking urn filled with silver ornaments. Looks sooo rich but in a totally not-trying-too-hard kinda way.
Okay…but my favorite part of her room is this coffee table masterpiece. She combined a tray, some silvery trees, ornaments, and a bit of sealife for a stunning sea-inspired christmas tableau.
I love the cheap faux pearl necklace draped over the coral. Looks like the sea just spit out Christmas presents for Audrey Hepburn.
Isn’t it beautiful? And yet somehow it is christmas-y enough to be appropriate during this festive time of year.
So there you have it – some Little Debbie (yeah…I call my mother by her rapper nickname here on dee blog) christmas decor workmanship. Anyone else drooling over the silver color scheme? Maybe you love those glittery sanddollars? Or how bout how simple and stunning the coral pearl combo is? Or perhaps you like the fun wreath and foyer mini tree better? Anyone else like my ma and take it as a personal mission to change the christmas theme on your tree each year? What is your name for it this year? Mine is called “Similar to Last Year” 🙂

How crazy is this I have those same trees next to Audrey’s pearls !!! Wow you are a hoot girl and I’m a Little Debbie as well, can’t figure out who has the better taste you or your mom, nothing personal I promise !!!! Love reading your blog, my daughter got me hooked and now it’s the first thing I do every morning to see what’s new. Sorry I know I’m rambling but I could sit and talk to you all day. 2 of my children live in ATL, so maybe next time I’m in town I can come over and see everything in person, wouldn’t that be so much fun? Can’t wait for the next installment.

Oh, wow, your mom has a great sense of style! I love this! You should do a non-holiday house crashing at your mom’s house! It looks like she has some great pieces in her living room (that mirrored side table?!).

Everything looks great. Those curly pipe cleaners are so whimsical. Seems straightforward, but I have never seen that done before. Love them!

Too cute! Lil Debbie needs to start her own blog! 😉 I think my favorite part is the large trumpets coming down the tree! I would have never thought to do that, but it looks like a tree you would see in a department store! Fantastic! Thanks for bringing your mom’s ideas to us!

Woah! colourful christmas tree! Loving it!
I am also rocking the ‘similar to las year look, with a twist of blue’
I added blue and green glittery reindeers and some blue tinsel… just for the heck of it!

Everything is beautiful, but I have to admit that my fav is the twirly pipe cleaners. I like the whimsy of it. I am filing this away for next year on the kid tree. (We didn’t have a kid tree this year, but we are moving soon, so I’m already thinking about next years decor)

OH, I keep forgetting to send this your way, but I know that with your sense of humor you will get a good laugh at our Christmas Tree blooper.

Visited on of the Target stores yesterday here in Los Angeles, and the birds were there on the shelf – in different sizes. Oh, so pretty. Don’t worry, you’ll get them, but if not email me and I make sure you get some sent to you from the stores here.
Happy Holidays!

Hey Katie B,
I saw this article linked over on Ms. B’s new Besotted Blog (formerly LeBlahg) that teaches you how to get different shaped bokeh… which is a weird word for those blurry light orbs you have in your second picture. You might have seen it already but I thought I’d pass it along just in case : )

Hi Katie,
Just wanted to pass this along to your readers (hoping people read others comments so they see this!) I purchased Photoshop Elements today at my local BJ’s. (kind of like a Costco Wholesale store if anyone doesnt know what that is). Its listed for about 99.00 online, but it was advertised for 79.99 at BJ’s. WELL, there was an instant, at register, rebate for 30.00….. so the program ended up costing FOURTY NINE DOLLARS!!!!!!!! I dont know if thats the case across the board, or just at my local BJ’s store….but figured it was worth looking into!
Hope this help someone….now I just have to learn how to use the dang thing 🙂
Laura says
OH my goodness – All of it is absolutely beautiful!!
