One year ago, I began this little ditty of a blog. It seems like just yesterday. My how time flies. How fast they grow up. It is remarkable. Anyhoo. I thought I would start out this blogiversary with a little info about me. That’s right…a little forum for me to spill some dirt on myself. So I am here to answer some of the random questions that I have received over the last 12 months and maybe give you a look into the life that is ‘Bower Power’.
On June 5th of 2008, Bower Power was born. But let’s rewind. Before blogging began, I was just a quirky newlywed with way too much energy and too little time. And before that, I was homeschooled (I know) and went to a Christian college (I know) and worked in accounting (I know). You may think…”But Katie, you seem so normal?” or “How come you have a sense of humor?” or “Do you have social skills?” – let me assure you, I am not normal, my humor is twisted, and my social skills are questionable. Basically, my family is one crazy fun-havin, people-lovin, Jesus-adorin bunch…and I give them all the credit for who I am today. One bazillion points to my family for making me so cool 🙂
So that’s me. You can read how I met my boyfriend here. And for those of you that still don’t know…the reason I call my husband my boyfriend is explained here. So fastforward to preblogging. I was married to that fine piece of bootie in the header, up to my plucked eyebrows in renovations, and started googling house details. Low & behold, more often than not, blogs were the resource for the know-how, whats-what, and the basics of home renovation. At first, I was just perusing photos…but then I started to read (yes, homeschoolers can read…sometimes). I laughed, I cried, I then had an apifany. I was going to start a blog.
I started the blog for several reasons. One – to document the home renovation process. B – to share our lives with our family members that live far away. And Four – to give an outlet to the bazillion thoughts that incubate inside of my ginormous head. oh and maybe so that people could laugh at my cheesy jokes…I love it when people laugh.
So I started Bower Power.
One year later, I am still going strong. And I love it. Blogging has allowed me to meet new people, share celebrations, keep on track with goals, vent about crap, get free stuff and has overall enhanced my life. Basically…YOU HAVE ENHANCED MY LIFE. So the question now is – Why do you blog? Do you believe that everyone should have one? I do. It’s like a diary, it’s like a good plastic surgeon, and a personal trainer all in one. Divorce rates would be lower if more people blogged. I kid not.
So there you have it – a little history about me and ABP to start off this blogiversary celebration. And my gift to you are the photos. They are for you outta love. I thought you would enjoy chuckling at me and my serious film noir modeling pics. Humphrey Bogart….here’s lookin at you kid!

My question is….where did these pictures come from?
allbowerpower says
Hi Austin – how ya doing chica? I am proud to say that these photos were from my modeling days. The photographer was building a portfolio of film noir photos. You know me…up for anything! Well, anything that involves being fully dressed 🙂 For more ancient modeling pics – you can see this post:

Yay! I love your blog-old and new. And just so you won’t drink yourself silly, I’ll put my John Hancock on this comment =)

First of all, love your blog, and the pictures are awesome! I just started my blog a few months ago, and I WISH it was as fantastic as yours! I started it for the same reasons – to document our lives as newlyweds, to keep in touch with others, and (as a bonus) fuel my narcissism.
Side note: I too was Christian (actually Catholic) homeschooled and I survived, with minor social skills in tact and only a slight fear of going straight to hell. 🙂

Happy blogiversary!
I blog for a number of reasons: to share tidbits of my life with friends and family far away, to give back a little inspiration because I get so much from other blogs, as a journal and as a place to share my photography.

LOL! Yeah, I LOVE IT! And your pictures are HEEEEEELARIOUS! If anyone ever asks me why I like to blog, I’m going to send them here. Then they’ll understand. Oh and P.S. Statcounter is SO my friend too.

Congrats on the blogiversary! You have completely inspired me to start some blogging of my own (and This Young House as well…I live in Richmond!). I’m hopeful that blogging will be a very welcome addition to my already nutzo life 🙂
Cheers to many more blogfilled years!!

Oh sweet sassy molassy, Katie, you are so weird and I love it. Captioning photos should be your full time job.
I blog because no one else I know IRL does…isn’t that wierd? I feel like everyone should blog. Oh and it gives me something to do at work too, can’t forget that

How happy am I that you have moved
to WordPress?! Blogger is blocked at my job,
preventing me from commenting on your blog in
the past. I love it and read it daily,
and also share your obsession with This
Young House. You have both inspired me to start
my own blog… it’s not as cool as yours but
maybe someday I will reach ABP status!
P.S.- Let me know if you are still looking to
girl date a blogger!

I hate you b/c you have cleavage and are photogenic. The only modeling pics I have are from sophomore yr of college. OK, they were taken on Spring Break. On Bourbon St in New Orleans. And possibly w/out my consent are now circulating the internet.
Congrats on the blogiversary and the new fancy schmancy site, K!

Long-time lurker – stalking the blog of a blogstalker for tips, see? 😉 – first time poster. (I would never leave an anonymous comment.)(Unless you told me you’d like a drink.)
Anyways, just wanted to say that I’m lovin’ the sleek new WP look, tres chic.
Happy Blogiversary!
P.S. Methinks you might be a year behind yourself with the Bower Power inception date in P2 😉

Happy blogiversary. I’ve been reading your blog
for a while now and I must say I love it. Your sense
of humor is awesome and I love your home deco
style. I look forward to many more years of Bower
Power.

Katie, congratulations on the blogiversary! Thanks for the entertainment and ideas and all your general whackiness!
Horse, Hound, and Home says
haha where did those pics come from?
allbowerpower says
heehee…you are right Lynnie, I need to fix that typo. Thanks a bundle for pointing it out!
Hi Horse, Hound & Home – those pictures were taken by a photographer friend of mine about two years ago. We traded his picture taking time for my model posing time. It was really useful for a portfolio back in the day but now they are only good for one thing…and it starts with an L and ends with “after” 🙂

Your pics and captions are a riot.
I love blogging, too. It’s the only way I can write about anything I want at any time. It’s very therapeutic and helps me organize my thoughts. I also think it’s created a better marriage for us because I write about all the wonderful thing my husband does- makes me a happy wifey.
Keep up the awesome work, your blog is definitely a top-pick for me.

So glad I didn’t comment on your prevous post where you made the “as awkward as a homeschooler in a social setting” comment. I am a homeschooling mom and I decided not to get insulted as I’ve noticed almost nothing is sacred where your humor is concerned. Glad I didn’t have to pull foot out of mouth! Happy blogiversary. Thanks for spreading funshine and inspiring us wanna be bloggers.
allbowerpower says
Hi Donna – Rock out girl! I love homeschooling & totally revere homeschooling moms – I think it is the hardest job on the planet…and I fully intend to homeschool my own little future swarm of chillins…if they don’t kill me first 🙂 Now go give yourself a moment alone with a cup o tea (because we both know those are few and far between) and reveal in the fact that your kids will know how to add AND subtract by the time they graduate 🙂
XO-Katie
